Go to Radio Shack and ask for a Toslink to Mini-Jack Adapter. About 5.00 bucks.

  • Correct cable for connecting to HD TV

    I have a Portege m400-s5032, serial # = XXXXXXXXX
I would like to connect it to my Samsung series 440 Plasma TV in order to stream Netflix.
What cable should I use? Do I need an adaptor?
[Moderator edit to remove serial number.]

That laptop has an RGB video output port. From what I can tell looking up the specifications for your TV, that TV does not have an RGB port. It's possible that some sort of converter cable exists, btu I don't know how well they'd work.

  • What cable for connecting macbook air to dell ultrasharp u2412m?

would like comments on best cable for connecting my mackboo air ro adell monitor - Iam new to apple and a bit lost.

The new Airs have mini displayport connectors. I don't know what ports your monitor has, but if it has an HDMI input you can use a mini-DP to HDMI adaptor (these are available from Apple) and then a regular HDMI cable to connect to the screen. Similarly, a mini-DP to DVI adaptor and DVI cable if that's the port you have on your monitor.

  • I want a soundbar for my 6th generation nano but am having trouble finding a compatible device. I'd like more than a dock, ideally a soundbar with wireless subwoofer. I'll only use the soundbar for music, not TV home theater. Any suggestions?

  • Hooking up MBP to home theater receiver: Surround sound for games?

I'm looking for a way to hook up my MBP to my home theater receiver to play games in surround sound. From what I've read, it sounds like the digital optical out will only provide 5.1 sound for DVDs, not games.
I have also read about the Griffin Firewave which supposedly provides 5.1 sound from the firewire port...however, it looks like there are five separate outputs from that device (center, and both front and rear speakers), and my receiver's inputs are not arranged in this way, so I don't think this will work for my setup.
Anyone know of a way to do this successfully? It's looking like it's not possible, but wanted to see if there were any solutions I was missing. Thanks!

  • Best resolution for mini connect to my home theater TV

    Good afternoon.
I have a 47" Panasonic HDTV (Widescreen). I would like to integrate my Intel Mini into my home theater.
What would be the best resolution to set the mini at to display on this TV?
    Thanks.

I figured as much. I ran into this problem with my Sony 40" connecting via HDMI. Always ended up with borders, etc. and tried all the things so many on these boards have suggested--all to no avail. The TV mfg suggested connecting via VGA and I admit I was frustrated wanting to connect digitally. I went ahead and tried it and am amazed it looks so good--no fuzz that I would expect.
Of course, with an AV reciever, this may not be a very good option. My TV has lots of inputs so I was able to bypass the need for an AV receiver.
I haven't yet seen anyone on these boards solve this problem the way we all want (HDMI or DVI connection)--the solution I suggested was suggested by another member as well.

  • Connecting mini to Home Theater

I'm going to be connecting my mini to my home theater using a DVI to HDMI cable and a mini TOS-Link for sound.
I will be streaming my music, photos, videos to my 47" HDTV. I have a couple of questions:
    1. How will the picture quality be using FrontRow?
    2. I have a NAS that I will be streaming from. How do I get FrontRow to "see" the directories on the NAS where my photos, music and videos will be stored?
    3. What is the best format to store my videos in for playback on a 47" HDTV?
    Thanks.

I can't say my setup is the same but similar enough to warrant a reply.
I have a mini hooked up with TOS-link and VGA (I have an older non-HD Plasma - 720x480).
    1. The video quality is superb, so long as the source is excellent. That said, Front Row isn't the most robust of software. It only reads certain formats - There are tons of posts regarding this. You can with little effort get it to read AVIs. It will also play anything that Quicktime can play. But DVD rips have to be played outside of front row.
    2. Just make an alias in the mini's "Movies" Folder from your NAS ( I assume that's an external drive or data source of some sort). Make sure the mini is connected to the external source. I have a G5 connected to a lacie firewaire with all my content. I use ethernet to connect to the G5 which is connected to the Lacie and it streams no problem...not the case if I try to do it wirelessly, it "skips" occasionally if I attempt it.
    3. Anything quicktime can read. I don't really have a preference so long as it's encoded at a high quality.
Other things to note...I have my mini going through a pre-amp which is connected to an amp. I use TOS-link, which means the volume controls are useless on the front row remote.
hope that helps...I'll follow-up with more if I think of anything.
    good luck.

  • Connected Mini to Home Theater... no sound

    Good morning.
I've connected my mini to my Home Theater. I ran a mini TOS-Link from the output (headphone) jack on back of mini using an optical cable to my receiver. I''m not getting any sound.....
How can I fix this or what have I done wrong?
    Thanks.

Do you know for sure that the cable is good?
If so, unplug the receiver end, leaving the other end plugged into your mini, and without looking directly into it, see if you see the red laser.
If you see the red laser light, then odds are good it's not a problem with the mini. Maybe there is a setting on the receiver to enable that input.
If you don't see the light, then you probably need to change a setting in OS X.

  • The correct firewire for the MBP June 2009

I have a camcorder that has a 4 pin and said the MBP 13 has a 6 pin and buy a 4 to 6 pin firewire. I did and the 6 pin doesn't fit. I couldn't find the exact spec for the MBP but which is the correct one?

is it in the manual somewhere.
All MacBook Pro models have a six or nine pin FireWire port; since the six pin cable didn't fit, you need a nine pin cable. No Mac ships with a four pin port. The documentation you got with the camcorder is out of date.
It's not a proprietary connection correct?
    Correct.

  • Connecting 5.1 home theater

    Hi,
I have recently purchased one touchsmart 610-1110 as well as one creative inspire T6160 which is a 5.1 home theater system. Now i need some suggestions how to make a connection in between these two.Customer care alreday told i can't connect these two as the 5.1 has three inputs ( C/sub,L/R & LS/RS) whereas the touchsmart  has got only two out (one sub and one audio out ) with one microphone and one headphone I/O but, as per the product specifications it supports 5.1(Integrated IDT 92HD89D) so i am still hopeful of conneting these two.The touch smart has got 4 jack sensing covering  its 4 I/O port for audio( sub, audio out, microphoe & headphone). It has got on-board hp beats audio(2.1).

  • Connecting to a Home Theater receiver

I am thinking about buying a mini to use with my home theater system. I want to use iTunes to play through my audio receiver. I have a G5 and hooked it up through the media receiver for my 42" plasma. I got video and audio but it only plays audio through my TV speakers. Can I hook up the mini to my audio receiver so it will play through home theater speakers?

yes. I need an AV switch. You can find one @ WalMart for ~$20.

  • Correct cable for recording

I am getting ready to do some "real instrument" recording and am only missing the cable that connects my mic preamp to my PowerBook.
Should I use a 1/8" mono cable or can I use a stereo TRS cable?
I am recording with a JoeMeek LDC through the JoeMeek VC3Q preamp/compressor/EQ. It has 1/4" output. Can I use the 1/8" TRS with a 1/4" mono adapter on the preamp end?
If this has been covered on the forum somewhere else, I am sorry to bring it back up...I could not find the info I am seeking though.
    Thanks,
    -matt

Thanks HangTime. Let me ask this then... Say I want to--at some point-- plug my stereo Alesis synth in and record either to two mono tracks or one stereo track. Can I get away with buying only the stereo TRS cable and using it in place of the mono TS cable? or does it depend on the switching of the output device whether the signal will pass correctly?
