Correct Colours In .xls export

Hi,
I am trying to produce an excel xls form that has correct screen colour reproduction in numbers & when used as a .xls file in the numbers spreadsheet application
I have been trying this various ways but cannot seem to find a correct solution.
For example, I have tried filling cells with a RGB reference,
I can set correct RGB colour references for a fill colour say R 254, G,242  B,205 in numbers.  This looks fine but if I then open in excel, these colours change to R 255, G 241, B193
I am not sure why.
I had thought of creating each colour as an image fill from numbers but excel does not support this option?
Could anyone advise me the best way to go about this please?

At least with older versions of Excel, I believe they actually did not use RGB per se, but rounded the values to the closest thing in their 56 color palette.  So even though it said RGB, it actually was not.  I thought that had changed at least, since Office 2007 or older.
Honestly I have never found a solution.  With presentations, I know if I make one in Keynote, but the forum specifies they will be use Powepoint, I make it a point to check my slides in Powerpoint on a Windows machine.  Even in the past, going from MS Office for Mac to MS Office for Windows did not maintain colors (although they would usually be close and not so much it rendered things unreadable).  I never did get a real answer to why their own product on different platforms was not consistent in color - even HEX colors would be off
Hopefully some people on the MS side will have a better answer for you - I just got frustrated pursuing it years ago and just gave up looking for an explanation or fix.  I suppose it is possible that excel still has some internal library fixed limit on colors (hopefully more then 56 by now) and is in fact, matching your values "as close to" its internal limts as possible.  I also seem to recall that at one time, the RGB function in excel actually returned values in the order BGR - don't know if that still applies either.

  • Background Colour Incorrect when exporting to PDF from Crystal Reports 2008

    Hello All
When exporting to PDF from CR2008 the background colour of the crosstab is incorrectly displayed. The problem is as follows to create a crosstab with a grey header row and column details in white we have used the following trick.
Format Cross Tab Border Background is set to Silver.
Crosstab Expert Grand Total Background colour is set to white.
The result is a crosstab with header in grey and details in white.
This report displays correctly in CR2008, and exports as seen on screen to everything but PDF. When exporting to PDF the Crosstab is completely grey taking on only the Background colour of silver, and ignoring the Grand Total Background colour being set to white.
What is strange that when I print to PDF the format is also displayed exactly as required,
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Some additional details.

    Adobe Reader version 9.3.3

If this is a big issue for you then please purchase a case and a Rep can duplicate and escalate to R&D.
As a work around export to Editable RTF and in Word 2007 you can get a PDF export plug-in and then export to PDF.

  • Colour conversion on export - its a toughy

Hi Sorry about the crosspost, but I had no joy in the indesign forum:
this is a problem with a CMYK document, with CMYK images (mostly with no profile attached).
I have a printer that will reject anything with colour density greater than 300%. Usually I output safe files from photoshop, but didn't on this job. It'll take me ages to go back and convert the placed content in photoshop so...
I've just spent an hour fiddling with colour conversion and export presets to try to get indesign to convert the placed content only.
I thought I'd cracked it, but realised that indesign had also converted my 100%K text to rich black.
    Heres what I did:
    export>output>
    convert to destination
    US WEB COATED (SWOP) v2
dont include profiles (printer uses an unmanaged workflow)
problem is that also converts the text. So I tried
convert to destination (preserve numbers), which didn't do anything to the placed content. So I then tried converting the whole document to different profiles and converting to those profiles on export (thinking that indesign would convert the placed conent as their profiles should not have been convereted), but nothing worked here either.
Anyone know a way to export from indesign to control ink densities, without altering my straight blacks?
    thanks!
    Gethin

    Gethin,
hopefully you'll understand that it's hardly possible
to describe such a complex workflow in one or two posts.
Nevertheless, the concept is correct, IMO.
Here comes the whole workflow for PDF/X-1a and a global
change of the CMYK space in the PDF.
Replace ISO Coated (old) and Euroscale Coated (new) by
    your profiles.
Neither single CMYK images nor the PDFs have embedded
    CMYK profiles.
    Settings in CS2:
    RGB = sRGB
    CMYK = ISO Coated
Gray = Black Ink ISO Coated (instead of dot gain)
Spot = Black Ink ISO Coated (instead of dot gain)
Synchronize by Bridge, check in Acrobat explicitly
    Settings in Photoshop:
    RGB: Convert to working RGB
CMYK: Preserve embedded profiles [read context help !]
    Settings in InDesign:
    RGB: Convert to working space
CMYK: Preserve numbers (ignore linked profiles)
    [read context help !]
    Preparations in Photoshop:
Convert images to CMYK and save without profile
    anne-untagged-iso.tif
Make new doc anne.innd in InDesign:
    Place anne-untagged-iso.tif
There is no mismatch, therefore no question
Write some text by black (K-only)
Preparations for Export To PDF, during the first Export:
Use Joboption PDF/X-1a 2001 as a template and modify:
Resolution color 288ppi if above 288ppi
    Compression none
Resolution gray 288ppi if above 288ppi
    Compression none
    Output:
    Convert to destination (preserve numbers)
[read context help - no mismatch, no conversion !]
    Destination: ISO Coated
    Output Intent: ISO Coated
    Save settings as PDF/X-1a 288-UnComp-ISO
    Export as anne-iso.pdf
Check by Tools / Print Production / Output preview:
    Black text is K-only
Check by Tools / Print Production / Preflight / PDF/X-1a:
    File is compatible
Color space is Device CMYK (not detected as ISO Coated !)
    Output intent is ISO Coated
If necessery convert into other CMYK space, here Euroscale
    Coated:
Tools / Print Production / Convert Color / Convert CMYK
    Destination space: Euroscale Coated v2
yes Embed Profile as Output Intent
    yes Preserve Black Objects
    Execute
    Save as anne-euro.pdf
Check by Tools / Print Production / Output preview:
    Black text is K-only
Check by Tools / Print Production / Preflight / PDF/X-1a:
    File is compatible
Color space is Device CMYK (not detected as Euroscale Coated !)
Output intent is Euroscale Coated v2
Should be corrected if still buggy !
A very dangerous style is IMO the profile assignment per
object. I'm preferring unique global definitions.

  • MacBook Pro Retina doesn't show correct colour spectrum

I'm having trouble with my late 2013 13" MBPr display, it's displaying low colour spectrum, something like 16 bit colours. I took a photo of my screen right now, and it display something like this. As you can see the cat colour look really washed out and the spectrum doesn't look smooth at all.
Compare to this screen capture that I took (using ctrl-cmd-shift-4), you can see the cat colour is more "life" and the colour spectrum is smooth (I send the screenshot to my iPhone to make sure the screen capture have correct colours).
It's happen after I do an airplay mirroring using Apple TV that connected to HDMI to VGA adapter to my projector. I never do that before, as my apple tv usually connected to my TV.
This are what I already did after that thing happens: reset the NVRAM, try to reconfigure colour profile, restart my MBPr, and nothing happens. But when I try to mirroring either using airplay or direct hdmi connection, the display in other screen are perfectly normal while the display in my MBPr still washed out.
    Any one can help?

  • Our EFFECT COLOUR CORRECTION COLOUR BALANCE  feature doesn't work on solids. Any clues?

Hi, I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot a light sabre effect. He has followed a series of instructions from the net, but no matter what we try the solid will not change colour using the EFFECT > COLOUR CORRECTION > COLOUR BALANCE feature on the layer.
On the linked page is the file + full instructions:
    http://beyondthewallmedia.com/?q=aftereffectsproblem
Could someone more experienced with After Effects please help us out and tell us why this feature isn't working in this project?
"Using your mouse to slide the numbers, drag the 3 “Blue Balance” labels to the right, up to 100 is you wish. This should start to change your glowing white lightsabre into a blue one. Play around with it, till you have the colour you want. You can slide the “Red” and “Green” Balance labels to the left to lessen their effect too."
Would really value someone taking a look at this for us. Thanks.

I agree with Mylenium.  There are some serious flaws in the instructions.  With no colour in the solid, Color Balance will have no effect.
But your project is also incorrectly built, according to the instructions: you've duplicated the mask 5 times, rather than the layer.
In the precomp, make your solid blue, with just one feathered mask, duplicate the layer 3-5 times, switch all to Add transfer mode.

  • Work area colours different to exported colours?

I have a wierd problem. When working within photoshop i can choose colours that i want but they show up a bit lighter on the screen in the work area, and when i click to export or save as the colours are shown a little darker and more saturated.
The colours on the export are actually the right shade, so they must be showing wrong within photoshop while i work on a document. I've never had this propblem in any other version of photoshop, only CS5 and i'm wondering if there is some setting or somehting i can change to have the colours be the same on export and while i'm working on the document, because it's very frustrating when the colours i picked turn out to be different when i save an image.
    Could someone please help me?

It sounds as though the problems you are describing are rooted within the fact that Photoshop is a color managed application, and (depending on settings) will respond to the color profile of the image and the color profile of your monitor.  To achieve the behavior you want (things not appearing unexpectedly different) we kind of need more info...
What are your Color preferences (Edit - Color Settings...).
What color profile(s) accompany the images you edit (i.e., where do you get them, how do you open them).
What operating system are you running?
What video interface (make/model/drivers) are you using?
    Have you calibrated your monitor?
What are your goals (e.g., see the same thing on the monitor as Internet Explorer, or another app)?
Take heart:  Photoshop can be set up to deliver consistent, expected results per your goals, and it will help to understand why you're seeing what you're seeing.

  • How can I check photoshop is giving correct colour screen display ?

    Hi,
I photograph a bright red car in raw mode on a digital slr (Canon 20D) set to Adobe rgb 1998  and view it in BreezeBrowser and it looks just as I remember it. I open it into Pshop CS5 extended (which is set to Adobe rgb1998, Europe ISO Coated Fogra27, (as I am UK and this is what a calibration company set our works proofer to)  gray gamma 2.2 dot gain 20% and its become a little desaturated. Sampling it and comparing screens and colours with BreezeBrowser its definitley less red, a bit more orangey red instead. I need to up saturation to return the red, both in RAW converter and also after image opened if not done so beforehand in RAW converter.
    Colours just look muted.
What tests can I carry out to find out what is going on ?
Perhaps create a rgb 255 0 0 image in a way not influenced by photoshop and photo the monitor, then open this in photoshop and sample it. However that would be influenced by the exposure of the camera. Maybe I need to create a kodak grey card type image and establish correct exposure for the monitor brightness first. so what would that be as rgb ?
    Any other ideas ?
I know though that Pshop is displaying duller. Once upon a time we had Adobe gamma and one would go through the calibration wizard to set up photoshop having already set up the monitor.
What do we have to do after installing CS5 extended or CS4 to ensure Pshops display is correct ?
I have Adobe gamma in the control panel, Is this something we still have to do in CS5, I wonder if its there because I still have Pshop 7 installed which used that wizard.
    XP pro is my OS.

How can I check photoshop is giving correct colour screen display ?
    Photoshop Monitor & Profile Image(link)
a big tip - why colors in Photoshop look different in other applications - is:
    View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB
that should duplicate what the other apps are displaying (the RGB numbers are going straight to the monitor with no color adjustment) - Photoshop converts/adjusts source colors to the monitor profile for a so-called 'true-color' display...

  • Correcting colour and contrast in scanned slides

I am investigating how to scan slides as accurately as possible, with the qualification that sometimes I may accept less than 100% accuracy for a better-looking image. I am in the midst of comparing several scanning methods, and at this stage one particular method stands above all the rest.
My original idea (before I started testing) was that I would not ask the scanner to do much processing of the raw image, that I would edit in Photoshop. The reasoning was: there's no better image-editing program than PS, and if PS (or its plugins) can't improve the image no other software could.
Well, it looks like I was wrong. I have tried to edit several raw scans, and using PS I can't get results that are as good as asking the scanner to edit the slides.
I have uploaded two sample scans to: http://www.mediafire.com/?z1w4ekew39dwa
Each scan has two versions: a "natural" scan out of the scanner (no corrections), and a corrected scan (suffix GB) using various scanner settings.
What intrigues me is that the scanner is able to automatically correct colour casts and improve contrast across a wide variety of slides. i.e. I have tested slides from the 1960s through to 2007 on various stock (Fuji, Anscochrome, Kodachrome, Ilfochrome). In almost all cases, and without changing the scan settings, images come up as good as the two uploaded images. The only setting I sometimes need to alter is what I call the "gamma", for slides that are underexposed or have a lot of dark regions where detail should be visible (and the reverse for overexposed slides).
Maybe I am not using PS to its full potential, so I am hoping that someone can have a go at editing the "natural" scans to see how close they can get to the corrected scans from the scanner – and then explain how they did it.
I am astounded at what the software inside this scanner can do with images. I thought PS was the be-all and end-all for images, but in my hands, PS comes in second and I'd like to know how to improve its performance.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Notes
    1. I purposely choose challenging slides for testing. They either have a large contrast range with visible detail in the highlights and shadows; or colour casts; or bright saturated colours.
    2. When testing, I compare all scanned images as seen on my computer screen with the original slide on a hand-held light box viewed through a loupe. For example, all colours in the image called Slide Scan 15 GB, even the metallic-looking sheen of the raincoats, appear as a close match to the original slide. The only significant colour variation is in the foreground rocks (which are a grey-brown colour in the slide), and the sky (which is a slightly darker blue in the slide). This slide is, maybe, 1/2 stop underexposed which explains the saturated colours and the dark "natural" scan.
    3. The scanner spends a significant amount of time applying corrections. An 18 MB image (2000 dpi) might take 30 seconds to scan, then another minute for the corrections to be applied.

    Welcome to the forums elinhjulstrom,
I saw your post about the scan quality issue you are having with your Deskjet F2180 on Mavericks. I would like to share my ideas with you that might help.
    Try:

    Repair disk permissions
Re-add the printer (not the AirPrint driver)
    Try the scan again

  • Droplet not working correctly in Lightroom 4 Export

Having finally found time to understand how droplets created in Photoshop work I realised I could save a huge amount of time by integrating droplets into my workflow through the Lightroom export dialogue.
I will not regail you with the hassle I had with CS6 creating droplets to start with. My question here is how to get LR4 to export and run the droplet correctly. My export preset is set up to do the following.
Export the selected file (RAW files chosen in my instance) to a subfolder named Processed.
Save those exported files as PSD at full resolution and with -processed added at the end of the file
Run a droplet that I created and placed in the export actions folder on the newly created files.
Import the resultant files back into lightroom
Using some test images I was able to watch as the images were exported and photoshop CS6 ran the action on the files and closed them off. When I checked the images in lightroom however there was no sign of the action having run! I opened the files up in Photoshop to confirm this (The action should have created a number of layers)
I wasted the best part of a morning trying various droplets and droplet settings to no avail. It was only when i went into Bridge, to test the droplet from there, that I suddenly discovered what had happened. The droplet had run and the revised file had been created. Unfortunatley instead of saving the revised PSD file over the original in the subfolder it had in fact saved it back with the RAW files in the original root folder. Of course there was no way of realising this in lightroom unless I decided to sync that folder, which I had no cause to do.
I have gone over the setting in Lightroom and I'm convinced it should do what I am expecting. All the books state that Post processing is carried out after the files have been created so should be carried out on the files in their new location. It apears however that LR4 is carrying out this process DURING export so causing the droplet to save into the original folder location. Not what I want and totally useless to me.
In terms of the droplet and action. The droplet was set to save and close. I did originally have a save command in the action, as instructed in tutorials, but removed it to see if that was causing the problem. Neither option made any difference to the problem.
To me it does seem there is a bug in Lightroom 4 but i have not found anyone else reporting this problem so am I missing something or not interpereting the export functions correctly?

    You cannot go back.
Have you tried a reset, restore to address your issue?
