Correct Edge doc size for DPS

Hello all,
Wondering if anyone can help me. I've created an edge document for use on a page I'm designing. Whenever I preview on my ipad, the edge document doesnt fit the frame size properly ( frame size is 2048 x 1536 ). I can only see a little bit of it in the corner. The indesign page is 2048 x 1536 so I created the edge doc in the same dimensions. Is this correct? What is the correct method for creating edge docs for DPS. I'm a bit confused...
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Bob,
Yes I'm aware that its not the best size to be creating these at. This is the way I've received these from my client. Are you able to advise further on my Edge problem? What is best practice for creating an Edge document for use on DPS layouts?
Thanks

  • Images sizes for DPS and Retina

    On this link:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/troubleshoot-content-viewer-digital-pub lishing.html#main_Viewer_appears_to_crash_while_launching__while_updating_library__or_whil e_downloading_folios_on_iPad
    It says that images should be no larger than 1024x1024px however the retina display is 2048x1536px. So if we are to use 1024px images they will appear lo-res on the retina? Is this correct?

    That's an old tech note that should be updated.
    The best way to target both SD and HD (retina) devices is to create 1024x768 folios in PDF image format. See Creating multi-rendition articles. Another option is to create both SD and HD renditions, but even if you take that approach, we still recommend sticking to 1024x768 source documents.
    For image size, feel free to use high-resolution images for non-interactive images. When the articles are created, these images and all other non-interactive page items are downsampled in the article's image format: JPG, PNG, or PDF. For images in overlays, you'll want to understand the difference between overlays that are resampled (slideshows, scrollable frames, buttons) and overlays that are passed through without compression (pan and zoom, image sequence, and panoramas, along with video and audio). For images in pass-through overlays, create JPG or PNG images in the exact dimensions; avoid scaling. See Best practices for creating overlays.

  • Correct panel sizes for a 11x17 tabloid (3 Panels)

    Hi,
    I have done some research on the internet and found different answers so I thought I would come to the best answer spot of all.  HERE!
    I need to create a 11 x 17 Tabloid 3 panel (Tri Fold), document.  I have completed one already and as I suspected, I needed different sizes for the panels so that it properly folds.
    When I create the new document, here is what it gave me:
    Tabloid
    W= 102p0
    H=66po
    3 Columns
    Gutter= 1p0
    Margins (all 4) = 1p6
    each of the 3 panels is 32p4
    Could someone please enlightned me from you experience what the best size would be for each panel.  I believe the changes are going to be small so that I can go in and resize (if I remember how), each panel for the x y cordinates.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bob

    Let's see if I can walk you through method two.
    Set up the doc as Tabloid with three columns (you should add a slug top and bottom for the fold marks, which I didn't do in the illustrations). I used .25 inch margins and .5 inch gutters, but you can do whatever you like. Note this is facing pages so we can mirror the guides on the master page:
    Go to the master page. Now, View > Grids & Guides > Lock Column Guides and remove the checkmark so the column guides can be adjusted:
    Drag a ruler guide (this just makes postioning things easier) to the line up with the first column guide on the left page, then select the guide you just dragged (make sure you don't have ruler guides locked, too). In the X-coordinate field type + .0625 after whatever value is there, and hit enter. Your guide will move to the right 1/16 inch.
    After the guide is moved, drag the column guide to snap into the new position.
    Now you can move the ruler guide again to use it for the fold guide. Select the ruler guide and in the x-corrodinate field add 1/2 the gutter width, then press enter.
    Repeat for the next set of column guides on the left page, but this time move .125 instead of .0625.  Repeat both moves on the right page, but instead of adding .0625 and .125, subtract those amounts so the guides move to the left.
    Your column and margin guides now define the safe zones, and your panels should be correctly sized for folding, so you can re-lock the guides and move tothe actual document pages to do the layout.

  • Hi all! What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

    What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

    Buying more hard drive space is a very valid option, here.  Editing takes up lots of room, you should never discount the idea of adding more when you need it.
    Another possibility is exporting to MXF OP1a using the AVC-I codec.  It's not lossless, but it is Master quality.  Plus the file size is a LOT smaller, so it may suit your needs.

  • Using Edge for DPS

    Hello,
    I am a graphic designer and my coding skills are average if not under average.. adobe edge gave me a great chance to practice some way to bring graphics alive..

    Hi Mohammed,
    Here are a few good resources on importing Edge .oam, into InDesign/DPS:

  • Can't place Edge file in InDesign for DPS

    I'm making an animation to play at the beginning of a DPS article, and I can't get it to place in InDesign. I've set the publish settings for DPS, and exported the animation as a .oam file, but when I go to place it the file is grayed out, or I get an error message saying "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested file." I'm in InDesign 5.5 so not sure if that's affecting it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

    Only Indesign Cs6 supports .oam files

  • SIZE FOR A DOC.

    I WANT TO CREATE A 8LENGTH X 5WIDTH BANNER WHAT WOULD BE THE PIXEL SIZE FOR THE DOCUMENT?

    Well that's not true really.
    The default setting is set to Picas and the user can change this to whatever system they are comfortable with.
    I use Millimeters, not inches.
    And you can create a new Document and choose "Web" and you are given Pixels by defualt.
    And a monitor isn't necesarrily 72dppi - it's really 96ppi - and that's what Acrobat is set to by defualt. Web images are  72 ppi for purposing for the internet - but 72ppi images look fuzzy in Powerpoint as the monitor is really 96ppi (circa).
    And the best place to make the Banner would actually be Fireworks.

  • Best size for previews

    Import

    view / select - 1st run thru check images through larger thumbnails
    weed out - full screen / 100%zoomed in images
    Develop modeThis assessing is where things fall down, often the rendering takes 4-8 seconds, sometimes starting with a totally pixellated image.

    Rob, you read the Help??
    For archived files 1:1 is completely unnecessary and you should have noticed, I have the space.
    Have you noticed that if you zoom in on an archived image with a standard preview a 1:1 is automatically generated, too easy!
    If you are wanting to recover from previews then you need to look at your back up strategies. Or just export full sized jpegs!!
    Rob Cole wrote:
    The points in having 1:1 previews for archived images are:
    * So you can zoom in if you want.
    * To maintain the potential for recovery.
    * So you don't have to bother computing an optimal size for standard preview, nor wonder if you computed it correctly or not, nor remember to recompute it when you buy a new monitor...
    Granted, if you don't have enough space, or you'd rather use the space for other things, then yes: standard preview size matters. But since I've never been faced with such constraint, I've never computed an optimal preview size. The general principal though is to save a preview that will fit nicely in the area you will be using to view it. So if I were to compute an optimum, I would:
    * Compute viewing area.
    * Figure out how willing Lightroom is to upsize an existing preview before rendering a larger version (if image is online), and how willing I am to view reduced quality upsampled image if Lightroom is willing to upsize some (or if image is offline).
    And from that one could derive the optimum size for standard preview on their system and workflow.
    UPDATE: From the Lightroom help file:
    Standard Preview Size
    Specifies the maximum pixel dimension for the rendered preview. Choose the size that accommodates the display you’re working with: select a standard preview size that is equal to or larger than the longest edge of your screen resolution. For example, if your screen resolution is 1920 x 1200 pixels, choose Standard Preview Size > 2048 Pixels. If your screen resolution exceeds 2048 pixels, Lightroom generates a 1:1 preview instead.

  • Why screen size for iPhone simulator is still 480x320 pixels?

    Hi,
    I just upgraded my xcode to 4.2.1 so I have iOS SDK 5.0 now. However, when I create a project, the screen size in simulator for iPhone is 480x320 pixels. I was told the screen size for iPhone/iPad is now 960x640 pixels. Why in simulator it is still old size? What should I do to get the correct size or I am wrong and the actual device is still 480x320 pixels? Thanks.
    Regards,
    Taizhi

    hi,
    you change between "iPhone" and "iPhone retina" to simulate both physical resolutions.
    For the project it doesn't matter because the logical resolution is still 320 x 460 "Points". The OS does most of the work for you.
    I suggest reading: this: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/2DDrawing/Conceptual/Drawi ngPrintingiOS/SupportingHiResScreens/SupportingHiResScreens.html#//apple_ref/doc /uid/TP40010156-CH15

  • Reduce Doc Size When Exporting

    Is there a way to reduce a page size when exporting from InDesign? I have a 20 x 30 poster want to export at 50% and make the pdf @ 10 x 15. Thanks.

    by print to pdf do U mean make a ps file instead of exporting, correct?
    Well, here's the thing... the orig question was a generalization of what we are trying to do.
    The actual file is 19 pgs of panels that are 20 x 30. We need to make pdfs for the client to look at on screen. The file is huge when we try to make pdfs by exporting... even at the smallest file size and then reduce file in Acrobat. We found that reducing the doc size & making pdf yields a much smaller and more manageable file size, but it takes very long to postscript. We were just trying to avoid that step. Thought for sure the was a way to reduce the output size when exporting.

  • How to setup a default size for new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver?

    Hi,
    how to setup a default size for a new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver? I don't need the default size for new divs as a 100% width, I need them 13.69% as a one coulmn width only (7 coulmns fluid grids layout for desktop size 1000w).
    This problem I've faced when I intended to insert dozens of fluid grid divs in the layout.

    Sorry, I don't believe that you have had a good look at the Foundation framework. I'll now hold your hand while we go through the basics.
    Here is the specific page http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html
    The default values are
    Em-base : 16px
    Row width: 62.5em (62.5em x 16px = 1000px)
    Columns per row: 12
    These and other default values can be changed. The fact of the matter is that if you stipulate a section width of 2 or 3 or 12 columns, the widths will automatically be calculated for you.
    In your case, if you want 7 columns, all you need to do is change the number of columns per row and the rest is done for you.

  • Printing envelope not formatted correctly on custom size 8.75 by 5.75

    Printers and All-In-Ones running win 7 64 bit, officejet 8600 pro all update current, In works 2007 word processor or 2011 Hallmark card progam.  downloaded latest driver and reinstalled same (deleted original dr and rebooted first). Envelope is correctly positioned, address prints at top of flap side return address is missing.  On plain paper (8.5X11) test print, address & return address appears to be in correct position.

    I have the same problem with the same size paper (aka Invitation or Statement size), and have an additional problem with printing to the corresponding envelope size which is a Standard A9 (5.75"x8.75"). These are both standard size papers for the U.S. and are used in printing wedding invitations. I don't understand why there are programmed sizes for Japanese stationary, but not for all standard U.S. size formats (that will fit in the main feed tray) or the ability to create a Custom Size format.
    Because these features weren't available, I ended up paying a local printer to print my New Year's cards (an expense I wasn't anticipating that equaled half the purchase price of the printer). And, since I can't print on the envelopes I will need to print labels, which I was hoping to avoid because I hate applying labels to envelopes.
    HP, please update the software to allow customers to print to all appropriate Standard Size US formats or allow for customization, otherwise my next printer will be purchased from a manufacturer that does provide this ability.

  • Stage transparency in edge not working with dps

    I try to make the stage transparency in edge, add some object with motion on that file, then paste it as a oam file into indesign for dps use. I try the way that discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4401867, when preview in desktop, everything including the transparancy looks ok(except the circle object becomes a rectangle), but in a real ipad, the transparancy stage become a white box, I know it may have something to do with the poster image, so I use photoshop to change that poster image into a totally transparancy png file, still don't work at all.  Somebody help me.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem:
    InDesign CS6 with newest updates
    Folio Set to Automatically
    Viewer Version set to 23
    Adobe Edge Animate OAM-Packages have no transparency, they have a grey background when I place them in a Folio within InDesign which is set to "AUTOMATICALLY".
    When I import the Animation as a WebContent it is fine.
    The screenshot shows the differences:
    Screenshot from Content Viewer on Windows. On the iPad the animation isnt shown at all, I dont know why..

  • Default page size for printing

    Is there a way to configure (i.e., specify non-programatically) the default page size to use when printing in Java? We have several JREs installed on a single Solaris machine. It seems that all but the one that came installed with the OS defaults to a an ISO-A4 page size.
    I wrote a test program (see end of post) and compiled using a 1.2.2 JDK. Here are some results:
    $ /usr/java/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.2.2
    Page size: 612.0 x 792.0 pts
    $ /opt/java-packages/jre-1.4.0_04-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.4.0_04
    Page size: 595.0 x 842.0 pts
    $ /opt/java-packages/jre-1.4.2_08-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.4.2_08
    Page size: 595.0 x 842.0 pts
    $ /opt/jre-1.5.0_04-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.5.0_04
    Page size: 595.2755813598633 x 841.8897399902344 pts
    I've searched the Internet, but cannot find how to go about setting the default page size for a JRE. I've opened a ticket with Sun, and was told you can't do this other than programatically. It seems unreasonable that I would have to recompile my existing applications just to get them to work correctly under newer JREs. Is Sun's response to my ticket correct???
    Thanks in advance!

    ============================================================
    import java.awt.print.*;
      public class PrintPageFormat
          public static void main(String[] args)
              PrinterJob pj = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
              PageFormat pf = pj.defaultPage();
              double w = pf.getWidth();
              double h = pf.getHeight();
              String version = System.getProperty("java.version");
              System.out.println("    Java version: " + version);
              System.out.println("    Page size: " + w + " x " + h + " pts");
      }

    This problem was fixed by setting the locale variable LC_CTYPE to "C" or "en_US". The JREs 1.4.0 and above deployed on our Linux and Solaris environments all have the system property 'java.awt.printerjob' set to 'sun.print.PSPrinterJob'. This is a subclass of sun.print.RasterPrinterJob which in turn is a subclass of java.awt.print.PrinterJob. So, PSPrinterJob is the actual class of the PrinterJob returned by PrinterJob.getPrinterJob(). Looking at the code of RasterPrinterJob:
            /* Default to A4 paper outside North America.
            String defaultCountry = Locale.getDefault().getCountry();
            if (!Locale.getDefault().equals(Locale.ENGLISH) && // ie "C"
                defaultCountry != null &&
                !defaultCountry.equals(Locale.US.getCountry()) &&
                !defaultCountry.equals(Locale.CANADA.getCountry())) {
                double mmPerInch = 25.4;
                w = Math.rint((210.0*ptsPerInch)/mmPerInch);
                h = Math.rint((297.0*ptsPerInch)/mmPerInch);
                newPaper.setSize(w, h);
                newPaper.setImageableArea(ptsPerInch, ptsPerInch,
                                          w - 2.0*ptsPerInch,
                                          h - 2.0*ptsPerInch);
            }This should have been fairly obvious. Java's locale settings depend on the platform's locale settings (i.e., LC_ variables in this case), and then the default page size is determined (or actually altered) based on that.
    I'm kicking myself for not figuring this out much sooner. I would hope Sun is, too! (not me, themselves)

  • Can I change background size for websites?

    Hallo,
    I am building a website in flash and was wondering if it is possible to change the background size for each page of a website that I build in Flash?
    I know how to change the template background etc. but I changed the background size to a bigger size on page 3 and now the whole site is like that.
    just wondering
    thank you
    Riaan

    Yes you can, but it depends on how your site is set-up. Do
    you have separate SWFs for each page or is you entire s
    ite built into 1 SWF? In order to have your
    pages be different you will want to
    break the SWF into to separte parts which ulimatly is better anyways, it allo
    ws you to increase you SEO which can be difficult with Flash site anyways and it helps with loading.
    Anyways have your pages be the size you want them and when linking page to page use your getURL commands.
    And then when you put them into a HTML doc, focus on your container style and make that differ from page to page.
    Hope that helps.
