Correct Format Settings for Import

I'm trying to figure out the correct settings for exporting a project from Avid Adrenaline to then import for iDVD at the best quality.
I've tried QT movie. It looks fine. Then I import it into iMovie to create chapters then to iDVD. The finished product has some issues playing back movement... most noticed in lip movement. Could iMovie be causing this problem?
Thanks,
Ken J.

  • FCP export settings for import in iMovie '08

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
The reason for using iLife '08 is solely for sharing the movie to dotMac.
(if you know alternatives bypassing iMovie '08 ... be my guest).
    Background:
I create my footage with a Sony HDR-HC7.
I capture the footage on my Macs (G5 and MBP) via FCP.
I edit my sequence in FCP using the HDV sequence presets
I output using FCP export to Quicktime. MOV file has HDV properties.
Funny: the captured MOV file with HDV properties can be read by iMovie '08 , the edited sequence with exactly the same HDV properties can not be read by iMovie '08 .
I tried a Compressor conversion to:
    - Apple preset iTV --> no import
    - Apple preset iPod video --> no import
    - Apple preset m2v and m4v --> both no import
    - Apple preset mp4 --> no import
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
    Please help.

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
Don't have FCP v5/6 but with older FCP/FCE usually use AIC for crossover in MOV file container.
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
I have personally used DV, AIC, MJPEG, MPEG4, H.264 and i believe Photo-JPEG with which another individual indicated he was having problems. As to audio for these files, usually use DV, Linear PCM ("Big Endian" Integer), AAC, or even uncompressed. Avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video compression formats which will import/edit but will not correctly export. However, be advised that there are some caveats. E.g., a "Large or Full" slideshow export from iPhoto places the MPEG4/AAC data in an MOV file container which iMovie '08 will not import. However, if you use the MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." File menu option to save the same data in an MP4 file container. Therefore, would say that some problems here may be associated with iMovie '08 "pre-scanning" of files and possible minor bugs in proper error trapping on compression formats vs file containers.

  • Missing registry settings for importing and burning?

When I start iTunes, I keep getting the message saying that "registry settings are missing for importing and burning CDs and DVDs. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I've reinstalled iTunes ten times (and I've done the "Repair" option through Microsoft Window's Control Panel). Nothing works. I keep getting this message.
(I have QuickTime and RealPlayer already installed on my computer, in addition to the Microsoft Windows cd burning tools.)
Can anyone please tell me what I need to do?

I too have experienced the same problem. The fix to add an UpperFilters with "GEARAspiWDM" followed by a return only resolved the error message relating to the warning indicating that the iTunes drivers used for importing or burning CD's & DVD's are missing. While I can now import CDs to iTunes 8 still no luck in getting it to burn. I have installed the GEAR drivers and followed the steps in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302976
but to no avail. I also tried the suggestion related to Vista that appears below but to no avail. Hope Apple has spent at much time trying to eliminate this problem as I have trying to fix it!
    From GEAR works:
It appears that the AFS driver does not meet Windows Vista driver signing requirements and thus is not compatible with Vista. As a result, the AFS driver prevents the GEARAspiWDM.sys driver from functioning correctly resulting in CD/DVD drives ‘disappearing’ in Windows Explorer and applications using the GEARworks API, such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost.
    Solution:
Disabling the AFS driver appears to resolve the issue.
This can be done by renaming the afs.sys driver file in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory to afs.txt and rebooting the system. After the reboot the CD/DVD drives should re-appear in Windows Explorer and be available in GEAR and GEARworks powered product (such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost).
Note that disabling the AFS driver may result in the loss of the CD recording functionality in the above mentioned software that uses the AFS driver.

  • New Users!  Need best settings for Import

I have just installed FCE 4. I have footage on MiniDV (1080i) as well as Canon 5D Mk 2 footage at 1080p (30fps). I want to edit these together. What settings are recommended for import.

There is no good solution for your media. You need to set HDV 1080i60 to capture the HDV media. That media is 1440x1080 interlaced. You need to convert the Canon EOS material as it uses H.264 which is not a production codec, but one designed for delivery. You can use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to QuickTime using the Apple Intermediate Codec.
Here's your next problem you can convert it to 1440x1080 at 29.97fps, in which case it will match the HDV material and not need to be rendered in FCE. Or you can convert it to it's original format 1920x1080 at 29.97fps, but then you'll have to render in the FCE sequence. In either case the audio should be converted as uncompressed stereo 48K. Never heard of 42K. No idea why of earth Canon decided to to do that.
In FCE you can set your sequence item properties to have no field dominance. This will prevent interlacing your material that's not interlaced. The interlaced material of course will remain as it is.

  • Best settings for importing to iPod classic

Have a lot of music on my ipod that I have imported at low quality settings. Am going to take some time re-doing this so would like to know the best settings for the best quality sound. Have plenty of room and would prefer a richer sound rather than more quantity.
    Many thanks.
(I assume I would put the old track in the recycle bin and then import the new track.

  • Best settings for import

i asked a question here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=464588&tstart=0 regarding different sound qualities. i'm also wondering if it is partially due to the settings i have for importing songs. i import using MP3 at 192 kbps. should i try something else? the reason i selected this is because i used a couple programs to put my cd collection on a hard drive and thus all are stored as mp3's on my computer. what are the best options to get the best sound?
    TIA!

so if i wanted to import using say AIFF, for example, and all my files are on my PC already as mp3 files, should i not import using the files on my PC then and import directly from the CD? because if i import the mp3's that are on my system into iTunes using the AIFF settings, isn't that sort of useless if the files have been "downgraded" already by storing them as mp3's on my system? or can i just import the mp3's using the AIFF settings and it will "improve" the quality over mp3's?
hopefully that is not too confusing...

  • Proper sequence settings for importing Canon Rebel T2i footage

Greetings, all. I searched the forum and didn't find this question answered elsewhere, so I thought I'd ask.
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, version 4.2.1, and I'm trying to find the ideal sequence settings for the Canon Rebel T2i, which records in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, with adjustable frame rate. I am running on Apple Mac OSX 10.8.2.
I've been editing with this footage for over a year now, and it's always been a struggle because I have to render all footage before I can even play it in Premiere. When first imported, the render bar above the timeline is yellow.
I'd like to see if I'm doing this incorrectly; to know if I have a simple sequence setting that's incorrect. What sequence settings should I use for my imported footage to start out green and not require a lengty render for video that isn't even edited yet?
    Thank you,
    -Matt

    >When first imported, the render bar above the timeline is yellow
I think this is written for CS5, but the concept should be the same

  • Correct sequence settings for Sony HandyCam?

I have a Sony HandyCam DCR-SR200 and when i drag the video over in premiere to add it to the edited video it tells me to check my sequence setting meaning i set it up wrong for that type of video? i just used standard settings. But, if i click change or keep, the video is extrmely zoomed in. How can i change this? The correct sequence settings or am i missing a setting? It's Premiere CS6. Thanks!

Please NOTE that the PPro CS6 screen may look a bit different (I use CS5)

I haven't verified the process myself, you will need to decide for yourself if it is worth trying.
I think you might getaway with just the following part of the method:
    +Restart PC
Make hidden files visible. (Windows Explorer Tools>>Folder options)
Navigate to C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data and look for an alphanumerically named folder containing an 'x86' subfolder. Mine was called {3276BE95AF08_429F_A64FCA64CB79BCF6} but it might change from system to system.
Copy this folder to the Desktop.
Open the copied folder on the Desktop, open the x86 sub-folder, right-click the GearAspiWDM.inf file and choose Install.
    Reboot.+

  • Best format/settings for photos to a slideshow

What would be the optimal format/settings of a photo going to a slideshow in DVDSP? I have the camera RAW files and can go out to any format or resolution necessary.
I have tried a few combinations. The best outcome has been a 600 ppi TIFF. But the main problem I am having is some rastering around the edges and in the details of the image. It is a product shot on a white background. I am working in FCS 2. Thanks.

Usually you are best off bringing it in at the size needed and not let DVD SP do the resizing (but of course many people have different approaches so keep that in mind)
Not sure if you have Photoshop, but there are templates (in the newer versions) for NTSC and PAL and the various sizes (Anamorphic etc.)
Place you pictures in there and crop/size as needed and save as a tiff.

  • Best settings for importing HD movies to ATV for video gallery

    hello -
i work for a gallery, and we have a video artist who will be showing HD videos here for 2-3 months. we bought 2 AppleTVs to use to show the movies, and i'm trying to figure out the best way to convert the material and get the files on there.
using the "Create Apple TV version" doesn't preserve the HD quality of the originals, which i know aren't compatible natively. i was hoping there is a place in the settings for the ATV where i could at least review the video codec in use when converting in iTunes, but there doesn't seem to be a place for it. am i blind or is there no choice in the matter?
i've tried converting in Quicktime Pro using the settings that are on the ATV specs page, and i was successful once (in a short excerpt without much video movement) but no longer (using an excerpt that has more color, movement, etc). the bit rate is too high i'm guessing, tho i've tried to limit it to 5000 k/sec. it ends up coming out 18m / sec for some reason......
for some reason i can't get handbrake to open the file.
any thoughts? we can't afford to buy new computers to stream the original off of, so we're hoping the ATV can show the movies in the highest def possible. she sent them in 720p50 format, so i had to buy a decoder plugin to view them (DVCPro HD from Calibrated Software).
    thanks in advance
