Hey
I posted a question in this section aday or to ago, on trying to pick up a printer from a frame, can some one direct me to the correct forum, where i can get it ansewer tryed swing as well

In order to get a question answered, you have to do the following:
1) use a proper post title. No caps or colors
2) ask your question in a way that other people can understand it. Try to use proper english, no MSN or haxor words
3) post code that is not working
3a) use the [ code ] tags to format the example code so it is easier to read
4) most important of all: show that you have put effort into the problem yourself.
There are also some things you absolutely must not do:
1) post useless things. People will recognize you and ignore you even if you ask a normal question
2) don't ask people for code. Only ask for help with your problem
3) don't crosspost. This means posting the same question in multiple forums.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there is only one reason left why people won't answer: your question is so special that nobody knows the answer.

Correct Forum? CGI and Server behaviour on Solaris at system()-call

Hi to you all,
Do not know if i am in the correct forum, but maybe it is a Webserver problem.
I have Sun ONE Webserver 6.1 running on Solaris.
Craete some CGI`s in C.
Now I have a problem with one CGI, which have to call a Shellscript via system() call.
The Client just calls the CGI with some parameters, which will write the informations in a file with some additional informations from a database, after that, the script should be startet and do some printjobs in the background.
The CGI and the Shell-script is working fine. My Problem is, that the system() call always waits, until the ShellScript has finished, so the Webserver send the "data successful written" site after a couple of minutes, it should send it immeditatly to the client, so the session is closed.
I have tried to put the shellscript in background with "&", also with nohup and a second shell script which justs starts the first script, also with all combinations of nohup and "&" for background process.
also i tried with "pclose(popen(SCRIPT,"W");" to call the script, it is always the same, the session will close only, when the script has been finished.
In an other Forum I found an entry, that , however, IPlanet webserver always will do this in this way. The session will be closed, when all called processes has benn fisnished.
Any Ideas to solve my problem?

The web server reads from the CGI program's stdout. It knows the HTTP response is complete when the CGI program closes its stdout.
When you call system(), the child process inherits the CGI program's stdout and keeps it open until it finishes. If you want the child process to run asynchronously from the HTTP response, you should give the child process a new stdout with > /dev/null. (You'll still need to place the child process in the background with &.) Alternatively, you can fork(), close(1), then exec().

Hope that I am finally in the correct forum - I've tried ITunes and another Garage Band (wrong one I guess) . Next week I plan to record a 12 hour radio program featuring Xmas music from around the world. This music is virtually unavailable on any recordings as much of it is live performance. The program will be saved into my iTunes library as a single file. Is there any way in which I will be able to divide this 12 hour file (include, delete songs) so that I can save individual songs which I wish to keep? I posted this on the iTunes forum and I was advised to use Garage Band however, I have never used this program and just found out that I had it installed on my HD when I bought my iMac two years ago (version 3.0.4). In other words, I am clueless about Garage Band. I would really appreciate clear, step by step instructions on how to divide this 12 hour file.

A 12 hour recording is really to long for GB3 to handle. Follow the link to the audio editors that HangTime gave you! There's a free one (Audacity) and shareware programs that will do exactly what you want. Or get QuickTime Pro, you can copy and paste sections of an audio file in the QuickTime Player too.

ValueUnbound and extending (correct forum?)

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question.. if it is not can someone point me in the correct direction.
If I have a form that implements HttpSessionBindingListener and then I extend that form am I asking for problems or is this fine to do? I'm asking because when I logoff my application I do it through the valueUnbound method. But this method is being called twice.

no problems. valueUnbound shouldnt' be called twice... but if so, that might be a bug in the server.
Just that you'll need to override valueUnbound in the subclass if that subclass needs to do anything with it.

Correct forum for Robotics?

I could not find a dedicated robotics forum, but maybe I overlooked somethings...

I believe that I must have a scanner driver because I have now successfully made one scan. But, I don't know where to search for a driver on my mac so that I could verify that I have the driver. But, I have a question - is there a user group for the 9000F? I'm wondering if there's such a group where I could look for info regarding new user questions/answers.
Since I now have 4 slides scanned, I'm wondering what I can do with them. I believe that they're in My Image Garden, but I don't know where. I saw somewhere that you can put them into a folder of your choice, so I created a folder called "Thirty-Five MM Folder". In a quick search, I didn't see where I could designate that folder for my scanned images. That (minor) dilemma is typical of the information I'd hope to find in the user group - perhaps in FAQ's.

Correct Forum for Application

I would like to see a "direct" link to the applicable Adobe Forum [depending on the application you are using] for that application under the HELP menu. For example, if you are using Photoshop CS6, a link would take you directly to the Photoshop CS6 forum. This woiuld make certain that users are inputting their information in the correct forum and it would be much easier to find. All too often, I see requests in the wrong forum. Is this not a logical approach?

The name of the JAR is (usually) not important. Finding the class within the JAR is. Simply download their latest release, and place the JAR's in your classpath. See if it works then. I did see a number of comments on Google asking for a Maven repository location. Maybe one has subsequently been added. But you can always do it the old fashion way by simply downloading the JAR files and then putting them in your classpath. Make sure the version is at least the version specified, and don't worry if 'snapshot' is not in the name.

Correct forum for this issue?

I just ordered a new MAC PRO; I'm currently on a PowerPC. I use Office X. Since it doesn't work on Intel I just ordered Office 2008. Just found out that all my VBA macros for Excel won't work!
Is there a forum here that is appropriate for this issue? I have used Applescript. I have both sheet specific macros and global macros. I've pulled down Excel2004AppleScriptRef.pdf which contains over 460 pages of detail. I need some basic high level guidance re assigning macros to buttons etc. I also found (I think) that standard Excel functions are not accessible via Excel2004AppleScript but there is a workaround??
Any help re the correct discussion forum or other forums would be appreciated. I know I'm not the only one with this heartburn.

If you're buying a 4-socket server, you're generally going to be buying at least 4 quad-core processors (16 total cores). Similarly, looking at a retail price of of $17,500/processor for SE, $60k would get you 4 processor licenses, which translates to 8 cores on Intel chips. If you went with a 2 socket server with quad cores, you could use SE1 at $5,800/processor and save two-thirds of your database licensing cost. Of course, that's before whatever discount you may be able to negotiate which may be larger if you're placing a $60,000 order than a $20,000 order.
Of course, you may prefer 4 dual-core processors over 2 quad-core processors because it may be a bit cheaper on the hardware front keeping core speed constant. But that benefit is generally outweighed by the savings on database licensing.

Not Sure If This Is The Correct Forum To Ask, But.........

I am looking to buy a new MapBook Pro 15 inch. Do you go with the $1999, 2gig, 250 HD, 2.4 ghz or jump to the $2499, 4 gig, 320 ram, 2.5 ghz at $2499? Is it worth it to for the extra $500 in performance? Working with photos, Nikon D300 and then just normal computing. If there is a better forum, point me......

I recently purchased the baseline , 2.4 Ghz Macbook pro. As a photography student, I am constantly using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom. From my experience, I can say that the baseline Macbook Pro definitely is up to the task of being a graphics editing computer.
From the way you described you needs, I don`t necessarily think you need to jump to the 2.5 model, unless you intend to start using numerous complex layers, enormous files and/or serious movie editing on final cut pro.
So for the uses you describe, the baseline model is an execellent choice. That being said, the 2.5Ghz is a nice sweetspot model if you can afford it, as the better vram and cache specs, which aren`t user replacable, make it a more future proof system if you don`t change computers every few years.

IBook Won't Boot From ANY Optical Disk - correct forum this time sorry.

My trusty old iBook circa mid 2005 is overdue for an overhaul but refuses to boot in Target disc mode or boot from any of my install disks, 10 or 10.3 or 10.4. When I choose the disk from Startup Disk it begins to reboot until the Apple screen comes up with some pixelly artifacts onscreen and it hangs. Holding the 'C' key down does nothing. Please help I need to wipe this baby clean and start from scratch.

i'm wondering if i am able to sync a blackberry to my macbook without to much fuss?

In August I bought Macbook. I tried using Pocketmac with my BlackBerry Curve 8330 but I had all kinds of trouble. After many many hours working with their tech support, I could never get it working.
So I bought Missing Sync for BlackBerry. It works great! It doesn't due wireless syncing with Bluetooth though (neither does Pocketmac).
I can use my BlackBerry as a Bluetooth modem for connecting to the Internet.

All my desktop files will now only open in the photoshop elements edit page. How can this be corrected?

As stated in my question I tried to open a manual I have on my desktop and it opened it Photoshop Elements edit page in a thumb nail format. I checked and all my desktop items will only open in the photoshop elements edit page. what do I need to do to correct this?

Now that we have your post in the correct forum, I have a few questions, please:
What is the file format of this "manual?"
What OS version are you running?
If this is Windows (a PC), then what is that file format associated with in File Types? It is likely that the particular format has been associated with PsE. If that is not what you want, the association can be changed from the Control Panel, to link it to the desired program.
