Correct image sizing to play as slide show on a 1080p x 1920 Philips TV?

What's the correct sizing to create a slide show DVD?
I have 10.5.8 I sized images to 1080p height & 1920 wide but when screening the images are cut off. Help?

If You made a WideScreen project in Video-Editor
and so started iDVD from scratch and here selected WideScreen
(FinalCut prior to Pro-X - can be tricky as You have to set the project into Anamorphic - In Browser window (column far to the right) and then drop them on TimeLine (can not be done other way around)

It use to be a setting on the TV - that muist be set right e.g. Auto-wide, Auto-Zoom, Widescreen or other
BTW - DVD is as Standard (whatever program Author the DVD) is ONLY - Interlaced SD-Video
• Feeding iDVD HD-Material
• Feeding iDVD Progressive material
Will not improve - but due to bad downscaling most often give a lousy result.
I get best possibly result by use of
• iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version as they can work and Export this to iDVD - and My DVDs looks as I want them (as good as DVD can be)
• iMovie'08 to 11 - Can not do this as they discard every second line in the picture when going from Event's to Project's - and this can not be mended later.

What version of iPhoto?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library (that option is unchecked)

I recently updated iphoto 11 and now I can't view my photos in the iphoto library. Screen is blank, but photos will show if played as slide show. What's going on? ? ?

On Friday, October 28th I updated my iphoto 11 because I received notice from Apple that I should do so for better stability in the program.    Today I opened I photo and found that although all my events show they are present and the number of photos in the library appears correct, when I click on an event to view the contents, I get a black screen.   I am told there are no photos in the event.   When I return to the iphoto page it again shows all my events with pictures of the photos in the event thumbnails and the number of pictures in each event.    I can not actually view these photos individually.      Now here's the strange part, when I select an event thumbnail and right click, I can choose to view the event as a slide show, complete with music and special effects and it will play normally.   But no way can I view the event photos individually.     I have one event that claims to be empty, no photos in it, yet when I click on that event all 346 pictures pop up for individual viewing, but will not play as a slide show.    I am totally confused and want my iphoto put back to normal.
Has anyone else had this problem?
How do I uninstall the update, or failing that how do I get my photos back? ?

Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem. Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File", then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu.    I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine.   The Browse Backups opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine. I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day.   I then clicked "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen.   Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal.   When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1). I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend.   I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu, when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library.   Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.
I don't know if any of this will be of help to you because your email says you are having trouble with photos imported after the upgrade was performed.   Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto, that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto?     If so have you clicked "upgrade"?

Trying to use my I-photo burned CD to play as slide show on windows lap top

I burned a folder on a cd. It plays perfectly as a slide show on my e-mac. We want to take the Sony windows laptop to show my parents our construction project tomorrow. It goes into the Sony family photos, but it repeated the photos at least 4 times and in jumbled order so anyone 90+ would not have a clue what is happening around here.
My husband tried putting it in a folder and doing slide show from that, but again he gets 4 or 5 of each photo, and not in any order so it takes hours and hours to remove the extras, and he still can't put them to "view by date". Does anyone have any ideas on how we can do this?
My daughter makes CD photos for us all the time on her windows system and they play perfectly on my Mac and his Windows?

I don't think you used the File->Export-File Export route to burn just jpg files to a CD disk but the Share->Burn menu option. That produces a disk that's designed to be used by iPhoto and not other computers.
So export those same files via the File menu route and use the option "Use Album Name". That will produce files with names "Album Name-01.jpg", -02.jpg, etc. and will be listed is the correct order. This will give you a CD with only jpg files on it for use by the other computers.

Apple TV not able to play my slides shows and music from my MacBook pro

Hello, I have just upgraded my software for my Apple TV correct me if I am wrong but in the past I was able to stream photo's in the form of slide show with iTunes music direct to my Apple TV and play on my big screen TV. The only reason I bought the Apple TV was that I had many slide shows I like to show to family and friends on my big TV instead of bringing home the slide projector? What happend? Now I can only download photos onto the Apple TV and it plays its own slide show with Random music...not what I paid the $300 for a year ago? What has happend or have lost my mind?

The slideshow feature is no longer available with the current software, it's possible that additional slideshow features contained within the new version of iphoto could not be supported by the tv.
You can however export your slideshow as a movie from iphoto, iphoto 8 supports export to a number of video formats supported by the tv including high resolution versions which the previous version of iphoto did not.

Help!! video clips won't play in slide show

I have a 40 minute Aperture slide show presentation that contains a few video clips (time-lapse videos, etc). It played well last summer. However, now that I am about to present the show tomorrow I can't get the video clips in the show to play. They have all been located and connected to the original files. If I double click on individual video clips they will play in the browser window but they won't play in my slide show. Any ideas? I'm in panic mode!

What happened since last yoear? Have you reinstalled the system at some point? Maybe you had last year additional video codecs installed? Flip4Mac, Perian?

Also, if you recently run a cleaner utility that cleared the caches, you now may have a missing com.apple.xpchelper.cache in /System/Library/Caches .
This has been known to cause videos from stopping to play. This file will only be recreated by reinstalling MacOS X, but you can force its recreation by a Terminal command. See:

Why are images distorted when burning a slide show to iDVD from iPhoto?

I have created a slide show in iPhoto and wanted to burn a DVD. Some of the images are scans from old family pictures.
The images present in the proper aspect ratio within iPhoto, but when I burn the CD in iDVD, some of the images are either compressed in from the sides or widened unacceptably. Anyone know why the images are being distorted?

I gave the iphoto slide show a show and although I couldn't access the options in the idvd dialog box, I liked the end results better. I included 225 pics, and the random transition's option from iphoto enhances the outcome. The random transition option is not available in idvd.

PSE9 Organizer crashes during playing of slide show

I've upgraded from PSE6 to PSE9. PSE9 reported no failures when converting my PSE6 catalog. When I open the organizer, all looks fine. If I go to full screen on a photo, then click play to run a slide show, the organizer works fine for a while, then stops.
I've attempted to get the assistance of Adobe support, but their responses have been worse than useless...some are comical. I've describe the situation to them thoroughly and sent the failure report data that Microsoft provides when a program stops working.
Does anyone here have any helpful suggestions on where I can go for help on this? Have you also had useless information from Adobe when asking for support?

"Invalid file" error playing PSE Slide show with audio through TV via DVD...

I have just made a slide show with audio and burned it to CD using photoshop elements....it will play on my laptop but when I try to play it through the TV via a DVD it tells me that the file is invalid.

VCD is an old format that is largely deprecated these days. Fewer and fewer devices understand it. If you have a burner, try outputting your slideshow as a wmv file and using whatever else you have to burn it to a dvd. Even windows movie maker or something like that.

Images loading before spry basic slide show

I'm using the "Spry Basic Slideshow" widget developed by the Adobe team, version 1.0, as found in the Widget Browser. It works beautifully. My only question is that on the iPad [and only on the iPad, the iPhone doesn't exhibit this behaviour!], all the images in the slideshow appear before the slideshow is activated so there is a moment when the images appear under each other and fill the page. Then the rest of the page loads and all the images disappear and start only showing up as they are meant to in the slideshow area. Is there any way of preventing this?

Your spry assets folder MUST be in the same folder as that of your webpage with the slideshow (html, php... whatever)
Check your folder configuration on the server by clicking on the "Remote Button" on the DW Assets Tab.
Example 1: This will not work:
WEBPAGE HERE: /server/public/myfolder/slideshow.html
SPRY ASSETS HERE: /server/public/SpryAssets/....your javascript files
Example 2: This will work:
WEB PAGE HERE: /server/public/myfolder/slideshow.html

Safari won't play embedded slide show in my website, when it has previously

Safari won't play an embedded slideshow in my website.
It has been working for several months. It still works with firefox, but as i am a preferred mac and safari user, it bothers me for other safari users who may visit my site.

as you may know - your website simply links to this page at theage.com.au
that page doesn't do much except load a Flash-based slideshow here
the slideshow is created by some software called "Soundslides" and there is a known bug ( now fixed it seems, but would require theage.com.au to put new versions of soundslider.swf on their system....or make some other changes to the way their servers deal with audio.
I guess you could innocently tell theage.com.au that their page fails on Safari ( also Opera and Realplayer for me ) & hope they fix it.... maybe even point 'em to the fix? .
ahem, err failing that, your only option 'd be to get your web guy to make the slideshow on your own website's server; although copyright over the images/sound might be an issue?. If you go that route, the basic soundslider software is pretty cheap ( US $40 ) from http://soundslides.com/ and instructions here
I should add that once you've got images/sound that you are entitled to use.... there are any number of free methods to make a similar slideshow.

ITunes Playlist(multiple songs) Does Not Play During Slide Show in IDVD5

I have a Itunes playlist that contail 3 songs. They play in Iphoto during the slideshow. However, only the first song plays in IDVD 5 andnot the others. But during preview all the songsplay. Anyone have any ideas.

If you look around the forums, you'll see this is a relatively common problem. Although it makes no sense that Apple lets this continue, a couple options are to Export/Share the slideshow to Full-Quality DV (a Quicktime movie) and:
- import into iMovie and add the songs, or
- use Quicktime Pro ($30) to open your songs, then copy and paste them into the slideshow QT file.
