Correct long lasting bugs

This is really the feature that I would need most. No bugs I have submitted since I am using Framemaker (version 3 !) where ever corrected.
One example: If a word contains a non breaking space, it will never be hyphenated. This is a bug because in some languages, words may end with a non breaking space followed by a punctuation. In that case, the word wont be hyphenated. If the non breaking space is replaced with a space, the line might be broken at that space, which is not good.
This bug have been submitted many time (nearly once for each new version). Nobody seems to care.
Another bug that have been submitted many time: importing corrupted MIF may crash framemaker abruptly with no usefull indication about what happened, or at least where it happened. Framemaker should reject the file without crashing.
There lot of other problem with CMYK colors, incorectect handling of table heading continuation, font replacement, and so on.
And each new versioin comes with new bugs. Frameker 9 dose not save to PDF unless you have installed Distiller 5.5+. What about Acrobat Pro 9? Does is not include Distiller? Why is Framemaker 9 not able to detect it?
But I should be able to print to the Adobe PDF printer to get the same result? No, here again it is completly buggy and when printing books, it produces lots of pages with missing fonts. Printing documents one by one will solve most of the problem but not all. Some pages have to be be printed individuallly and inserted manually into the resulting PDF.
Who is speaking about a solution for producing big documentation?
Please don't spend you time on cosmetics (like the new GUI or this stupid save to XML that produces no useful result)  and make this application work the way it is supposed to. For the price we pay, we deserve it.
Attache is an example of a page with missing fonts, and pure CYAN incorrectly translated to RVB

Hopefully you'll be pleased to read this: The missing fonts problem has been fixed since July of 2008. It is a joint Microsoft and Adobe fix, and the issue was not in any way associated directly with FrameMaker, it was the printer driver and it affected many other apps, both Adobe and non-Adobe. Here are the references:
http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2008/07/hotfix_for_framemaker_1.html
Also, if you would like useful response on your other issues, I'd suggest posting individual questions on the General Discussion forum rather than this thread becoming a jumbled mix of replies -- it's difficult for forum members to follow more than one issue in a thread, it gets confusing for everybody.
Lastly, if you're posting about FM9 issues, please post the specifc version you're using, the "pxxx" numbers from Help > About.

  • How long-lasting is the correct one for a battery in a Mac Book?

    To whom it may concern,
I just bought a brand new Mac Book last month, and some of the things I got in mind when I bought it, was the battery long-lasting life, 10 hours, wow! Today I am checking the features of the MacBook and it says 7 hours long-lasting... and you know something, to say that it works seven hours is more real than it works up to ten hours because I have been using my brand new MacBook up to eight hours from 100% to 1% with the display off.
I would like to know why did you decide to fix the information about the features of the battery? Thank you.

Hi jarhqro and welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are no Apple staff here, it is just member to member forum so you will not get an official answer.
Battery life depends on what you use your computer for. Using it for light browsing with all power saving options set will give you the max but intensive use and no power saving options set will give you the minimum.
Just use and enjoy you new Mac book.

  • Is PSE a long lasting app or must it be upgraded every year

I'm just wondering before i spend the 100 dollars on Photoshop Elements 8.0 if it can be an application that can last several years (like Microsoft Office) or would I need to dish out the hundreds of dollars ever year for the upgrade.
I was looking at Wikipedia and seen since like 2005 there has been a new release every year; so it makes me think next September (2010) there will be a new version.
But if one version can last for a year or two or more then I think it would be worth the 100 dollars to get right?
    What do you think?

Depends on what you mean by "long lasting".  Many people run a given version for several years (or more) and have been quite satisfied.  However:
Adobe releases a new version every fall, and it almost never releases "updates" for fixing bugs.  So to get bug fixes, you need to get the new version.  With the last few versions at least, you don't get any effecive discount for upgrading -- you pay what new customers pay.   Also, Adobe customer support has a habit of only providing technical support for the most recent one or two versions.   And if you're moving to Windows 7, Adobe only officially supports PSE 8 (though earlier versions will run), refusing to provide technical support for earlier versions running on Windows 7.

  • Is there a way for AutoVue viewer (JVue/VueBean object) to cancel long lasting loading/rendering operation?

Is there a way for AutoVue viewer (JVue/VueBean object) to cancel long lasting loading/rendering operation? In our integration when we try to switch from a document being loading on another one we can get an error message “Cannot load page” (but the document is shown after that). Or if we try to stop loading document by calling jVue.closeDocument() we can see everlasting progress bar and indicator “Loading…” on the status bar.

    No, it is not possible

  • Long standing bug in ARD

There is a LONG STANDING bug in ARD dating back to at least v2.0, maybe earlier.
While controlling a remote Mac, for seemingly no reason, the display stops refreshing. The connection has not been lost just refresh is stopped. A single refresh workaround is to click the color adjustment bar, no need to move it, just click it and you get one refresh. This happens to me way too frequently! It occurs on PPC as well as Intel Macs, on local LANs and over the Internet through VPNs.
Sometimes you can break out of this by closing the connection and connecting again but it usually requires the remote machine to restart the ARD service. Doing this with ARD itself usually leaves the remote machine unreachable (ARD service stopped.) I have taken to using a near by Windows machine then ssh'ing into the Mac to manually restart the service. This works but the refresh problem re-occurs after an undetermined amount of time.
There seems to be no clues as to why this happens. There is never any particular task I am performing, no specific app I am always running, etc, etc.
Excuse me if this has already been brought up and if someone knows a fix or can point me to a KB article I would be most appreciative!
    Thanks,
    Josh

I, too have experienced this problem. However, much more so since I upgraded to ARD 3. This can happen, as you say, on a wide variety of clients: eMacs, G5 Dual, iMac G5, Powerbooks. Most annoying. I have found that if I use TB2 to control the client, I will find, in some cases, the SystemUIServer process is hung. By Force Quitting this process and Re-Starting the client, I am able to get ARD to run again.
This seems a little more severe than your problem, but I have had the same experience as you describe as well--the SystemUIServer is not hung in these cases. I can generally find nothing wrong on the client to account for the behavior.
Nor have I found a satisfactory answer to the problem on this forum. Would love it someone could offer a clue!

  • How long lasts the unicity (if any) of the System.identityHashCode()?

How long lasts the unicity (if any) of the System.identityHashCode()?
I created code that keep track of seen identityhashcodes for instances
created and unreferenced in a loop.
**** I was surprised to see that these identityhashcode can be reused! ****
The language spec says noting about the unicity of those (at any given time) and especially not for periods of tiem.
Spec menyions that most jvm would use the heap address (which would explain why these identityhashcode could be reused)
    **** The question is:
At what time is an identityhashcode invalidated and reusable?
If I have a finalize() method, at which time the object is considered unreferenced, could its identityhashcode be reused while the finalize() is running?
My problem is that I associated data to an object, in an external diskcache, by a key whose value is the identityhashcode, (trying to make the key unique), and I must garbage collect it.

Casually? yeah right, 64bit platforms are just a minor
    detail.... ;-)
I wasn't clear about my hopes. I just hoped that for
reflecting new architectures, they would had a new
    method
    like System.getUniqueObjectID(Object):long
Basically, if sun does not add that, it means that
they beleive the java programmers do not have a need
for addressing/keying object instances uniquely, and
we should just do for-loops with "=="....
I will post an RFE to sun, we'll see.
Thanks. It is not required that hashCode every return a value larger then an int. There is no requirement that
two different objects return two different hashCodes. There is only the requirement that if two objects are
the same then they return the same hashcode. Most 32 bit JVM's do not produce a unique hashCode value
for all objects. Because of this there is also no need for 64 bit JVM's to return unique hashcodes. Hence
64 bit JVM's do not need more then an int to represent the hashCode.
The equals() method (or ==) is used to determine whether two objects are equal. Not the hashCode.
Increasing the size of hashCode to a long would break a large number of classes in the JDK all of which
expect an int. HashMap/hashTable/HashSet are the prime users of hashCode. They do not require a value
larger then int as they use the value to index into an array. Arrays cannot be larger then 2^31 elements
long. This also will not change on 64 bit JVM's as changing this limitation would break most of the API's.

  • Can long lasting transaction fill up undo tablespace .

    Hi,
Let's say we are on 9.2.0.8 and have long lasting transaction , I mean we started some update (1 row only but no commit/rollback) and do nothing for a couple of days .
So the amount of undo is minimal ,but we are having one undo slot used and 1 entry in undo transaction table .
Is that some kind of dangerous ? As far as I know undo is kind of circular buffer so we are fixing some upper end and preventing new transaction from using lower 'end' .
Please elaborate . I've noticed some GUI reports such situation as undo 100% full , not sure if thats ok .

And one more think, could You tell how to troubleshoot that issue I mean how to know we are getting close to disaster (ora 1555 or out of undo space) , that long lasting transaction is taking only 1 undo record
    so seems not dangerous .

  • Are long lasting 8 pin charge cables dead?

I never had problems with the old style chargers other than they lasted sooooo long the wire would break at the 60 pin. Good prob to have.
On to 8 pins: all 3 footers have always been way too short so I was forced to buy 3rd party 10 footers 8 pin cables at Amazon. The length is so freeing, but they either stop charging or you get alerts that the device isn't designed for your device sometimes in weeks.
Apple finally started making 6 footers. Yea I thought. A bit pricey at $30 but I'm in if they work. Reading the reviews in the Apple Store I see too high a quantity of buyers complaining their Apple brand 6' charger cable stopped working at about the same rate as the cheap Amazon ones. What to do now?!
Does anyone have a recommendation on how to get a longer long lasting charge cable? Perhaps the Apple 3 footer that came with my iPad plus an Apple USB extension cord?

I've done that for years too and was hoping to get something a bit more streamlined, but in trying I've run into bad off shore products that don't last, or Apple 6' ones that are just too costly compared to a $5 white extension cord that I can plug my OEM charger wart and 3' OEM cable into and get the distance I need.
I'm starting to think that if Apple is getting negative feedback about their 6' cables just as are the off shore companies at Amazon for their 6 and 10 footers, that perhaps there is an issue with cables over 3 feet which would explain why Apple has never given us longer than 3' after all these years when obviously 3' is too short and too many loyal Apple fans have complained over and over year in and year out.
So ... logically, it makes more sense to bring the power to you and plug into it instead of using a longer cable to the power outlet.
I give. I'm going with the wiser solution that you reminded me of until such time as Apple or a decent off shore cable company makes a reliable longer cable which as of this writing doesn't exist ANYWHERE.
    Thanks, Demo.

  • Best screen protector with long lasting oleophobic coating?

Which is best screen protector with long lasting oleophobic coating? I know tech armour and nilkin for example.

I'm not sure anyone here could answer that difinateively but my 2 cents would be that an actual adhesive could perhaps right away or over time interfere with the factory coating...
There are a lot of screen protectors that rely on static cling that work just fine like the ones I use found at the link below... I've used those since the first iPhone I put a cover on years ago and have never been dissappointed at all...

    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    * Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (restarting Firefox might help) before this would take effect.
    (2) Set Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate").
This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it, which will help distinguish Flash-generated issues from page load and layout issues.
To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".
When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

  • When will Mozilla correct the printing bug with Firefox where only 1 page is printed?

There is a problem with FireFox whereby it only prints the FIRST PAGE of many sites.
Searching the web on this, it seems that this problem has been around for a long time and even what the cause is.
Apparently FireFox interprets the html text "overflow: hidden" as meaning to 'hide' all the rest of the page when printing.
Many users have reported this problem, but to date it has not been adressed.
Please correct this Mozilla (Or do I have to go back to using Safari?)

Please go to the following bug and add a comment documenting this problem:
    https:// bugzilla .mozilla .org/ show_bug.cgi?id=258397
If more people report this problem, there is a better chance they will fix it.
''Moderator broke the hyperlink. Please don't advocate the spamming in Bugzilla reports, if anything request that users '''vote''' for a Bug that they think should be fixed. That particular Bug is a duplicate of this one - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129941 - which was fixed in 4.0b7.''

  • Lens Correction Manual Slider Bug!

    Hello,
I've been having a problem with the Lens correction Manual Sliders. Constrain Crop selected.
The vertical and horizontal sliders are behaving more like the distortion slider.
When sliding left or right they are pulling from the center, rather than the right or left end.
Also, with the scale slider....If I scale down it shifts to the right. when I reset all the sliders to zero.
The image doe not reset to its original position.
Is this something that the Lightroom 4 team is aware of?
One all the bugs are fixed I look forward to its release! Your hard work on this software is appreciated!
    Best, Pam

The vertical and horizontal sliders are behaving more like the distortion slider.
When sliding left or right they are pulling from the center, rather than the right or left end.
Well, they *are* distortion sliders (sort of), leaving the very center of the photo unchanged. This has not changed from LR3. I can see no bug there. Also keep in mind that the visual effect is very different from wide angle photos to tele photos. Photos made with a tele lens are more or less just changed in the aspect ratio, and not so much distorted like wide angle photos.
Also, with the scale slider....If I scale down it shifts to the right.
This can happen if you used the horizontal slider before, combined with "Constrain Crop" - because the usable part of the photo shifts to one side or another. In the same way, scaling will shift up/down if one used the vertical slider before. This is perfectly normal. Hint: Try the vertical and horizontal sliders independently, with scaling set to 50 (minimum) and "Constrain Crop" *OFF* to see what they do with the photo - that made it a lot clearer to me how they work.
when I reset all the sliders to zero. The image doe not reset to its original position.
Also normal, because if you reset the manual corrections after working with "Constrain Crop" enabled, only the manual corrections themselves are reset, leaving the crop&straighten tool at some "funny" settings. Go to crop&straighten and reset it, too.
In conclusion, I see no bugs here. I also fiddled with the various manual sliders, and could not see any behaviour that was different to LR3, which has no bugs in this respect as far as I know...
P.S. I am not sure if I quoted the last question correctly or not. I assume these two sentences belong together?

  • Long standing bug in deployJava.js has not been fixed

I thin it's outrageous that the bug reported here deployJava.js and HTTPS Problem has not been fixed. I can only assume that Oracle has abandoned Java.

You'd be surprised to know that some Java API (including Java2D & Swing) bugs & RFEs I have submitted 12 years ago have still not been fixed.
I doubt it's Oracle's fault, as much as it was Sun's, probably a generic lack of people and resources to allocate to fixing small bugs coupled with a bad prioritization system which does not automatically increase the weight of a low-priority bug after it has spend some times/months/years in the bug-db.
On the other hand, I have always wondered what do all these people at Java/Sun/Oracle do all day long (was especially true of the JavaFX team over 2009/2010 and now I am starting to do the same about the JWS devellopment/support team considering the huge amount of things non-working correctly in this technology).

  • 2.01 Did not fix long backup bug for me.  What do I need to do?

    Hi,
The update has not corrected the long backup time bug for me. Started a backup 30 mins ago and based on the progress bar it will run for at least another 2.5 hours. I don't understand how it can take that long to backup less than 8GB of information. Do I need to change a setting or delete old iTunes backup files to get this process working correctly. Most of the other bugs I encountered with version 2.0 seem to be resolved but this backup bug is a time waster. Do I need to take the phone and my mac to the Apple store and have them look at it?
    Thanks,
    D

You can cancel the backup process by hitting the x in the progress window and it will go directly to the sync if it is taking it too long.
