  • Facetime on mac mini

can i use facetime on mac mini with Apple Thunderbolt Display ?
    thanks

Just to relate my experience with the Macally Megacam:
When I purchased my Mac Mini late last year, I wanted a microphone mainly for telephony (specifically, Google Voice). I chose the Macally Megacam because besides having a microphone which would "just work" and a nice low price, it also had a video camera.
The microphone in the Megacam works perfectly and flawlessly with every application for which I've needed a microphone. I like the way it clamps onto the top of my monitor and connects via USB with no software of its own to get in the way.
The camera works. But in FaceTime it is terrible. TERRIBLE. Very, very low framerates. I think this is because the camera is always recording its images at its maximum resolution and this results in the Mini not being able to keep up a decent framerate. The folks with whom I've used FaceTime have told me that the framerates I'm pushing to them are the same; it's not just that it looks bad in the preview miniwindow in the corner of the main FaceTime window on my Mini. I've tried it with my own iPhone and I've seen the same thing, so it's not a bad wifi connection, either, as the image from my iPhone to the Mini is perfectly clear with a high framerate.
Admittedly, I've only tried the Megacam's camera with FaceTime. Maybe some other application would drive it better.
I'm still satisfied with the Megacam. As a microphone. If I frequently used FaceTime or some other application requiring video, I would not find it satisfactory and would look for some other camera or possibly just get an Apple Thunderbolt display which has a FaceTime camera built in and would connect to the Mini with a Thunderbolt cable.

  • ICloud rejects CORRECT password when logging in

Every time I log in to my computer (or restart), I get a window that asks me for my iCloud password.  Even though I enter it correctly, the window “wiggles” and clears out the password.  Multiple attempts to re-enter the password results in the same symptoms.  I’ve even reset the password and tried with this new password and the same thing happens.  The only way to make the window go away is to click on Cancel, not once, but twice.  I know the password is correct, because I can go to iCloud.com and log in successfully.  That same password also works with my Apple ID any time a password is requested, further reassuring me that I’m using the correct password.  Why is it continually being rejected at login?

I have this too. I had it for Facetime, but I logged out of it, but to log out of icloud i need to go into System Preferences, but it crashes every time i click on the Icloud icon. But only crashes for Icloud, everything else works fine.

  • Problem logging into FaceTime for Mac

For some reason, Im unable to login with my AppleID. After the information is entered into the ID and password block, it sits at "Signing In" and goes no further. Ive reinstalled the app with no luck. I have basic WEP security on the home network but I have not experimented with changing these settings. Anyone else run into the issue where it just wont log in?
Ive also created a new AppleID account through the FaceTime app, but it still wont log in with that account.

I have the same problem. Whether using an existing Apple ID or creating a new one, FaceTime just gives me the spinning wheel at "Signing in" and gets stuck there forever. I've left it for hours and no change. I've tried a couple dozen times and no change. Just the spinning wheel.
I'm in Hong Kong, and I tried with both a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro and a near-virgin Mid-2010 iMac (Little Snitch never installed). I'm using both a Tenda wireless router as well as the wireless router supplied by my comms company PCCW.
    Nothing works.
Is it regional? Is anyone else in Hong Kong able to sign in?

  • HT1578 Correct password wont work on a dmg file

I created an encrypted disk image and saved my files in it. Once created, the pw was working fine when checked, but today the password wont work, it was saved in keychain too so no way it can be wrong, but I renamed and moved the file a couple of times to other folders, is that the problem?

I renamed and moved the file a couple of times to other folders, is that the problem?
They can be renamed in Finder and changing the location of it should not matter either except if you moved it to a folder with different access permissions that prevent it from being read.
Anyway recreate a new encrypted disk image and choose a name you are happy with, move your files into it, and keep it in a location where permissions belong to you and that will be the the most direct solution.

  • Can't log new user onto Mac Mini Server

I can't log a new user into Mac Mini server.  Have added the user to the Workgroup Manager, and am now trying to use the password created there for log-in on user computer. Any advice?

Do you have Server Access Control Lists (SACLs) configured?  If so, you will need to add this new user to the appropriate SACLs before it can connect.  As an example, when I create new users, I need to add them to the File Sharing SACL or they never see any available shares on the server.

  • Correct Superdrive Caddy/Optibay for SSD in Mac Mini 2009

Hi there, I'm looking at getting an SSD for my Mac Mini '09, but could really use some help with a couple of things.
Firstly, from what I understand the Superdrive in Mac Mini's are 12.7mm. Correct?
Secondly—since/if it is the larger 12.7mm—can I therefore use either a 9.5mm or 12.7mm caddy to hold the SSD, or should I ensure it is 12.7mm. I only ask as there seems to be a lot more 9.5mm caddys about and I thought I would get the smaller option so I could re-use it in a Macbook Pro.
Thirdly, there are a lot of caddys about on eBay and I wondered if they are compatible with Minis. I wasn't sure if the design is rather generic between PC and Macs.
Thank you any answer-ers. I have looked on the google, but couldn't find anything that quite set my mind at ease...

  • Keychain "login" Problems   Can't remember my Keychain password.  Admin Password also does not help. Mac Mini(Late 2012) OS 10.10.2

    Series of Keychain "Login" Problems.
    Hardware: Mac Mini (Late 2012)  2.5 GHz Intel COre i5,  4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    OS X : 10.10.2 upgraded yesterday
Mail wants to use "login" keychain.   I enter Password but no success.
CalendarAgent wants to use "login" keychain.   I enter Password but no success.
Com.apple.internetaccounts.xpc wants to you "login" keychain. Password, not successful.
At some point in past days I was offered to rename Keychain, so I did.
In Keychain Access, I deleted "Login"    and selected Delete references.
Just now I went into ~/Library/Keychains and found Login.Keychain and Login_renamed.Keychain.
    I have renamed Login.keychain -> Login-old.keychain.
    I renamed Login_renamed.keychain-> Login.Keychain.
In Keychain Access, I added "Login" back.  This should be the renamed keychain.
Original problems still persist.  No noticeable changes.
Keychain wants to use the "Login" keychain.   Can't remember my password or it is incorrect.
    Help?
    TITLprods

I turned off and turned on the computer.  When restarting it said that it could not use the Login and did I want to create a new or use and alternate?  I created new and for the moment things seem to be working under the command of the "New Login"
That still doesn't really alleviate the problem of the old login.

  • Webcam not working FaceTime on Mac Mini

I can't start PhotoBooth without it crashing when I have a Logitech C170 plugged in.  If I remove the webcam the application starts fine.  Same web cam doesn't work with FaceTime either.  I have purchased two of these webcams and both operate fine on my macbook air, but on my Mac Mini, they simply will not work, and I cannot figure out why.

  • Mavericks &  FileVault & logging out results in Mac mini shutting down?

    Hello.
Did a clean install of Mavericks and set up FileVault on my primary SSD and every night, before I go home, I log out of the system (by restarting) and the machine restarts and lands on the login screen (and then I leave the office). Since I enabled FileVault, I find that when I come in the next morning, my Mac mini has shut down at some point (resulting in a failed network backups via one of my Retrospect servers as it can't find my mini on the network, since it's offline).
    - The mini is on a UPS and nothing in the UPS logs show power issues resulting in a shutdown.
    - There is no schedule (Preferences > Energy Saver > Schedule) shutting the machine down.
    - I don't have any scripts or other set schedules that shut the machine down and nobody else has physical/remote access to the machine resulting in it shutting down.
I've checked the logs and I constantly see this when I restart the machine before leaving...

Anyone have an idea what would be causing this? Does enabling FileVault result in an eventual shutdown if it's left sitting at the login window for too long?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    Hi BDAqua
    Thanks for your response.
I looked into console for the unusual shutdown prior to my post and I found the following:

I also did a search in String Matching for 'shutdown' and got the following:

  • Iphone as webcam for FaceTime on mac-mini

i have an iphone and a mac mini. I use facetime on the iphone and have also used my iphone as a webcam for my mini for skype and other applications but failed with facetime. I know that i could use facetime directly from the iphone but when i am at home i prefer to use the larger monitor conected to my mac-mini instead of holding the iphone in  my hands. i dont want to buy another webcam. I expect that apple should at least make their own devices compatible in all these possible ways.
Does anyone know an app or way i can use my iphone camera as a cam for facetime!!

Before you spend more money (and time) on 3rd-party apps - which could cause you trouble with the next OS X update as much as they interfere with the system - you may want to consider putting your $$$ into an external, Mac-compatible webcam from a well-supported brand (drivers!) and have peace.
BTW, if you don't want to run FaceTime off your iPhone because you don't want to hold it, how would you use it's camera only without holding it? If you have a solution for it, it would also apply for FaceTime via iPhone, obviously...

  • External usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite

    Hello
When I try to do a phone call with face time through my iphone 6 face time is not recognizing my external usb microphone connected to my mac mini. I have just updated my mac mini to os x Yosemite. If I go to the audio system preferences and look to the audio input signal I can see that the external microphone (SB Omni Surround 5.1) is working (audio input level is showing an input signal).
Can someone help. I saw that this was also an issue in the beta versions of Yosemite.
    Thanks.
    BR Stefan

Interesting.  I don't have a USB mic on the Mac Pro.  Its the OLD FireWire 300 iSight.  It works for FaceTime calls but not the iPhone call via the FaceTime app.
I also have 2010 MBP that works perfectly, even since the first Public Beta.  I'm to sure if that mic is considered an external USB device or not, or if it has to do with device signatures vs. external or internal.  I would almost assume that the built-in mic is on the USB bus.  How would it be any different than the external USB.
I think I have to agree that this is a point release bug.  I have submitted a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, and would ask others to do the same, or at least post to apple.com/feedback.  The more noise we make through process the more likely to get a fix in the .1 release.
