Correct settings for xbox 360

Hi i have an older airport extreme with wireless N and dual band signal.  I'm trying to connect my xbox 360 to it wirelessly for xbox live.  I know i'm not the first one to ask this question but truth be told, I had it working fine until apple's latest update in late January 2012. Since then the xbox will connect and have a good signal (at least 3 bars and usually 4) on xbox's test screen.  I've looked for an answer to my problem but it seems no one has posted anything about this yet because the software for the airport and airport utility are so new.  What will happen when playing a game is it will connect and start out fine with a good transfer rate (not great but good because my laptop somehow has a higher transfer rate. laptop 144mbps. xbox 360 65mbps) But after playing an online game the transfer rate dramatically drops, and drops so much that it becomes extremely laggy and then kicks me out of the game saying something like lost connection to server, making any online game unplayable.  If i restart the xbox and play the same game online, the same thing happens.  Like i said none of these problems were happening before this recent software update.  As a side note, the software update also seemed to remove some useful options from the router like the ability to increase the power of the signal (i really dont unstand why apple would remove features but whatever). So if anyone has a fix or suggestion, please reply to this.

i basically answered my own question. i reverted back to 7.6 firmware and got rid of 7.6.1. And now everythings fine. Thank you apple for supplying me with an update that made it worse.

Hello everyone, I have just purchased a E3200 today and my nat type is strict on Xbox live, that's what it says when I'm in the lobby in Modern Warfare 3. How do I get a Open NAT type? Any help please? THANKS!

  • Correct settings for HDV capture

Hi. I'm using Premiere CS5.5. I went on a few forums to get the correct settings for HDV capture.
I can record the footage fine. However I saw a few things which didn't seem right.
After capturing the HDV footage, the file was a .mpeg file. Secondly, the clip was 1 hour and 10 minutes and
it was only 11.3 GB. Does this sound right? A 55 minute .avi file is 11.6GB. I thought a HDV clip would be quite a large size file.
If this dosen't sound right, is there somewhere I could go to, to check that my settings are correct? By the way I'm filming and capturing with a Canon XHA1.
The footage is 1080i. HDV. I've exported it and it looks fine. Just want to make sure I've captured it correctly and to the best quality.
    Thanks for your help.

The HDV format was advanced by Sony and others to use the same miniDV tapes used for SD.  In fact, your Canon XHAI can record and play either without changing the tape transport speed.
Your observation in relative file sizes is due to the fact that HDV is highly compressed (MPEG), whereas, SD (AVI) is not as highly compressed.  This is one of the reasons folks (such as Harm) don't consider HDV to be an edit format, but just a delivery format.
Note that what Harm was saying is symantics--you capture an analog source through a capture card that digitizes it.  When you transfer a image file from HDV or SD, it is already digitized, so a bit-to-bit transfer occurs.

  • What are the correct settings for the Canon 5D mark II in FCP 7 ?

I am shooting full HD at 23s97 fps.. tried making a preset for the Canon but when I import fils FCP always wants to change to appropriate settings for this file type but doesn't tell me what that is...
    (latest firmware installed)
Please, can someone provide all the correct settings for me?
And also, why doesn't the camera show up on the desktop/in the menus when attached to the mac? I have ro use EOS utility every time I want to get anything off of the camera... and FCP doesn't see it either. That's just not right - FCP MUST recognise my camera!! : (
Please help - I don't want to start editing until I have the right settings for this footage.
    Thanks
    Jim

    Welcome to the Boards
Not sure what you mean with the following, looks like a word dropped?
I have ro use EOS utility every time I want to get anything off of the camera...
Anyway, some more specs on your system could help point where the issue is. With the new Plug-In by Canon you can Log & Transfer from the Flash Card (not sure how you connected the camera.) Alternatively you could just drag the files in (but make sure to keep all files such as THM in case you use Log and Transfer later.)
Generally it is best to transcode to Pro Res to be able to work with the files in Final Cut. (Log & Transfer should do that, or using Compressor/Mpeg Streamclip.)
It (Final Cut) is probably changing the timeline to match the codec, or depending on your last preset used, just switching things around. In other words if you were editing in DV and had a set up for that, new sequences would default to that and if you try to ad anything else you will get the message.
Take a look at the search over there -> to look for the Canon 5D threads for some more info.
What I would do is just pull one of the clips in to start and look at what the sequence settings are aftr Final Cut changes them for you - they should be fine generally, though you will want to change Codecs to Pro Res.
I like just batch conversion of all my clips from the 5D Markk II and then work from there. (I do not hook up the camera to the computer, just use a card reader.)

I want to use mac mail to access my gmail. Can I  ? instead of going directly to web to access my gmail.? Which are the correct settings for the incoming and outgoing servers ?

    Hi,
Yes. You can absolutely access your Gmail account from within either Mail or Microsoft Outlook for Mac. Make sure, that you have enabled POP/IMAP in your Gmail settings, then follow the instructions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=180188 if you wish to access your account via POP3 instead of IMAP, change the incoming mail server to pop.gmail.com

  • Correct settings for DVD

    Hi
I wish to know which are the correct settings for making a new project in imovie and then what to do for getting the best quality on DVD. (I use still pictures and video clips with music, transitions and effects)
    Thank you so much.

    ola
the correct format depends on the format your camera (PAL or NTSC - 4:3 or 16:9) meaning the project format should meet the camera format. pleas note that that format changes in iMovie/iDVD are effective only for new projects and cannot change existing ones. the dvd quality settings depend on the length of your movie and can be set in iDVD under preferences.
my movies are never longer than 30 min. so i set it to faster encoding and check background encoding ... i also tried with best quality once but frankly i can't see the difference

  • HT1277 i have all the correct settings for my e mail but i can't send for some reason it keeps taking my outgoing server offline

i have all the correct settings for my e mail but i can't send for some reason it keeps taking my outgoing server offline can anyone help

If you can receive mail and your connection to your ISP is otherwise working, but cannot send mail, then your SMTP settings are incorrect; the SMTP server port is wrong, your SSL setting is wrong, or the username or password credentials don't match what the ISP has, or your attempted accesses are being blocked or your ISP SMTP server is offline.
And in general, don't use port 25 for your outbound mail, unless your ISP specifically requires that; these days, that port is best left to communications between mail servers and (usually) not used by any mail clients.

  • Amazon Q&A - E3200 - Default Nat Type for xbox 360 and ps3

    Date: Sep 5, 2012 4:08:21 PM PDT
    Linksys E3200 High-Performance Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router
the nat type for xbox 360 and ps3, what is it when you set the router up out of the box? are the nat types open moderate or strict

Hi there. It actually depends if the gaming consoles ports are not blocked by your ISP. Moderate NAT type limits your connection playing online games, Strict does not allow you any connection at all while Open allows you to play with everyone online. Have you had a router before with Open NAT on the gaming consoles? Try to check without the router by going directly to the modem and see if your NAT type is open or strict or moderate. If ever modem is fine and it is the router not working right you can port forward ports on the router. I found these usual ports online, for XBOX live:TCP and UDP ports:  80-88, 3074-3074, 4267-4269. For PS380, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

  • Full HD Export settings for Connect 360 (Xbox)

I have created my first project with imported clips from a Sony HDR-SR5E (Really smooth & easy). I wish to now view these on my 1080 Samsung TV via my connected Xbox 360 (Updated with latest firmware as far as I can tell) to benefit from true 1920x1080 presentation.
I have exported to QT (H.264) with the following movie settings:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Key Frame rate: 24
    Frame Reordering: Yes
    Dimensions: 1920x1080
Connect 360 states that it supports full HD (1920x1080) H.264 in both the MPEG-4 and QuickTime containers (in addition to the previous WMV) & the Xbox support pages suggest it supports the following for H.264:
    · File Extensions: .mp4, .m4v, mp4v, .mov
    · Containers: MPEG-4, QuickTime
    · Video Profiles: Baseline, main, and high (up to Level 4.1) profiles.
    · Video Bitrate: 10 Mbps with resolutions of 1920 x 1080 at 30fps. See question number 6 for more information.
    · Audio Profiles: 2 channel AAC low complexity (LC)
    · Audio Max Bitrate: No restrictions. See question number 6 for more information.
However, and you knew there must be one, when selecting the movie on the Xbox dashboard it will not play stating it is an unsupported format!!!! Arghhhh, denied....
I have played around with a few different settings and the only one I can get to work correctly is by exporting to one of the default export standards i.e. 960x540... Video looks ok but not the superior quality I was hoping for on my 1080 TV.
Has anyone else come across this problem or can suggest any solutions to get full HD from camera to TV?
    Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the reply, but the Xbox will in fact view MPEG-4, which iMovie can export. The only problem I'm having is with the quality of the output. The quality is in the movie that is exported, not in the Xbox's viewing of the movie - the movie looks just as bad on my Mac mini as it does thru my Xbox...
With experimentation, I think I'm getting closer to my goal...

  • Changing nat settings to open on basestation (dual ethernet) for xbox 360

i have a airport basestation (dual ethernet) and i have my xbox 360 plugged into the back using a ethernet cable and i have tried everything i know to open the nat(network address translation)
settings and i tried everything i know to open a port but i am appearantly doing something wrong.... can anyone help?? please... my xbox connects to xbox live but i can play with very few people because of the nat setting.... suggestions?

jfinley1, Welcome to the discussion area!
This "open NAT" is a relatively new thing not supported by the dual Ethernet AirPort base station (ABS).
How have you tried to map/forward/open a port?

  • Opening NAT settings for Xbox

So recently I tried opening NAT settings so I could use my Xbox Live more efficiently. Unfortunately, I know nothing about computer networking. Is there anything I can do to get this up and working?

Unfortunately, the AirPorts are not listed as Xbox Live-compatible routers ... so there is no guarantee doing this will get Open NAT status for Xbox Live!
The following web blog does a great job explaining the NAT issues with Xbox Live! Basically what it comes down to is that although you can get an Internet connection for the Xbox with the AirPorts, you may not get the necessary NAT setting (Moderate or Open) for the Xbox Live! on-line game that you want to play. As such, you basically have two options: 1) Create a DMZ (Apple calls this a Default Host) for the XBox or 2) Configure the AirPort for Port mapping to open the required ports to allow Xbox Live! access ... or 3) Use a compatible router.
    Option 1 - Create a DMZ
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT
Enable default host at: <Enter the IP Address for the XBox>
Option 2 - Configure Port Mapping
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
    UDP 88
    UDP 3074
    TCP 3074
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the Xbox 360.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP tab
Click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
    Reserve address by: MAC Address
    Click Continue.
MAC Address: <Enter the MAC hardware address of the Xbox or the MAC address of the wireless depending on how you connect the XBox to the network.>
IPv4 Address: <enter the desired Private IP address>
    Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT > Configure Port Mappings
    Click the "+" (Add) button
Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    Public UDP Port(s): 88, 3074
    Public TCP Port(s): 3074
Private IP Address: <enter the DHCP Reserved IP address for the Xbox you created earlier>
    Private UDP Port(s): 88, 3074
    Private TCP Port(s): 3074
    Click "Continue"

  • WRT54G - Advice for XBOX 360 users

My Advice - Upgrade the router's firmware using a wired connection before you do anything else.
I just got this router as a replacement for a broken-down d-link router.  I had issues with the 360 the first night I installed it.  Everything else worked (PCs, Wii).
    Symptoms:
Router wouldn't assign my 360 an IP address through DHCP
The XBOX live connection was all quirky
NAT level showed as moderate in the 'Test Connection to XBOX Live'
360 couldn't see the mediaCenter PC correctly
I am using a wired connection from the router to the 360.
Because DHCP wasn't working, I set the IP and DNS manually.  That seemed to have half-worked.  It would show me as signed on to live though the games would fail to perform on Live.
    Solution:
I decided, before following any of the other advice out there - which in some cases can really comprimise your network's security - I decided to upgrade the router's firmware.
Once I did this then set the XBOX 360 IP and DNS back to Automatic, the 'Test Connections' on the 360 were successful and I was playing blazing angels and nba 2k7 online with no lag, etc...
I did not have to make any other adjustments after the firmware upgrade.  NAT Level also changed to OPEN when running the 'Test Connection to XBOX Live' from the 360.  No DMZ, no port triggering, and no port forwarding necessary.
    Background:
Just to give you an idea of how many devices I'm running through this router at my home:
    3 wired desktop PCs
    1 wireless desktop PCs
    2 wireless laptop PCs
    1 wireless Nintendo Wii
    1 wired Xbox 360
All devices are working just fine.
I've been working with routers for around 12 years (large and small implementations).
I got this router for around $50 and really like the features for the price (especially the WPA2 and wireless MAC address filtering).

Ok I have a new problem,(I have a topic on xbox 360 and nat settings)I got my NAT to open, was able to play with my friends that I couldn't before. Then last saturday, he brought over his xbox 360 and we played all night. Then the next day, with his 360 back at his place, we try to join and its the same problem all over again, can't join his party. His settings was set to OPEN before, when he put it back at his place, now he had a MODERATE setting, without changing anything on his router config.(should still be OPEN). Anyone have any walk arounds for this problem,or any help? I only understand so much of this networking stuff.

  • No HD for Xbox 360 input 2

    Hello everyone!
I have a NS42P650A11 television (42" Insignia 720p). Anyway, my roommates and I regularly enjoy playing FIFA 11 on our Xbox 360 which we have hook into input 2. We've always played in HD and it's been a great picture. However, last night my roommate, while switching the input from 1 to 2 (we usually slide our finger down the side because we can never find the remote), messed everything up. Another roommate had distracted him and he says he thinks he changed some settings. The picture is no longer HD quality, it's quite bad. I tried to search through all the menus and User Guide but didn't find anything. Eventually I just held EXIT and reset all settings. Somehow this didn't fix the problem at all. Help!
    Thanks, Blake

The TV only has HDMI inputs so those are the cables from the xbox we are using. I unplugged and plugged them back in, nothing happened. There's no chance of the regular component cables from the xbox being used as they are not in the TV. The TV/HDMI switch on the xbox cord near the box is also correct, though I unplugged it and switched it back and forth to make sure. The picture looks normal, just blurry. There's definitely a slight zoom effect while we're in the game, and on the menus things look smaller and to take up less space than normal.
I think the regular cable is unaffected (through input 1) but when I bring up the tv guide menu it takes up the space of a 4:3 aspect, instead of going all the way across the screen like it used to (although it's still clear unlike when I go to  non-HD channel which shrinks the guide and makes it blurry).
It doesn't make sense to me either, especially after resetting all the settings. But it's happening that much I can assure.

  • Settings don't have MTU settings for Xbox Live

I've been having problems connecting to Xbox Live. All of my PCs wired and wireless can connect to the internet except for my 2 Xbox 360s one wired and one wireless. Some times it says that there isn't enough MTU or can't connect to the network when I follow their steps to fix it. It just keeps dying on me.
I was wondering if the Configuration page has MTU settings?

I don't know which modem/router you are using (guessing it's some model by Actiontek) but read my post about getting connected to Xbox Live with an Actiontek router.  Even if you don't have the same model, you probably will find something useful there.  Also, I said this in the post but in case you don't see it, with these modems/routers, you cannot connect wirelessly, you must connect by ethernet or you will get errors.  The link is below, hope this helps!
