Correct version of bootcamp?

Never done this before, but I'm excited to figure it out. A couple quick questions for someone who has more experience than me:
1. Pre-installed on my MBP is bootcamp 3.0.2 and I see newer versions of bootcamp available for download (3.1?). Using the software update tool doesn't update to a newer version, so do I need to install it manually?
2. I see that there are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of windows that I can install, just looking for a quick 'yes' or 'no' for if the 64 bit version is the recommended one. I'm only looking to use windows to play a few games.
Thanks in advance for a couple quick answers. I'm gonna go buy windows 7 tomorrow and hopefully get it up and running without too many hang-ups. Just trying to make sure I buy/install the right version and use the right version of bootcamp to do it.

Hey, I'm new to this also, but from what I've looked at it depends on what "version" your MBP (or any Mac) is to use 64bit VISTA/Window's 7 only.
Take a gander at this and see if yours is supported for 64bit.
It starts out saying 64bit VISTA only but then at the bottom of the "Summary" it does say Windows 7 64bit is supported on the later models.

I THINK you just use BootCamp Assistant and it will give you a chance to "Check for "Updates" before it starts to install, as my MP is brand new (month old) I didn't bother updating that way. I think you just need BootCamp 3.0 (you need 3.1 for 64bit windows) and above and 10.6 Snow Leopard, but try to download the newer version of BootCamp first anyway (either manually or through BootCamp assistant) as it may have more features and/or bug fixes.
Don't forget to put the Mac install disk (OS-10.6.x) in after the end of the Windows install as BootCamp needs those drivers to work with the Window partition. USB (Wired) keyboard AND mouse to install tho.
I have a Mac-PRO (different then yours I know) and I used a second internal drive just last week to try it out on XP 32bit and it went great. I don't know if it's different when using the same boot up drive but the only "hic-cup" I had was after it got near the end of the XP install it rebooted(?) and just went to a black screen with a curser blinking at the top and never did anything more. I gave it about 10 minutes and then just rebooted the computer and for about 4 seconds it did the same thing and then just finished installing the rest. Works like a charm now.

Some MacBook Pro versions cannot be upgraded past 10.6.8; others are maxed out at 10.7.5. newer models can go all the way to 10.10. So it is important to know exactly what version you have--there may be close to 40 variants produced since the MB made its debut in 2006.
You can safely give us a snapshot of your model and its current config that will allow us to deternmmine your model and its upgrade potential, plus show it you have any software that may impede any upgrades. Please download and install this free utility:

  • How do I choose and then install the correct version of Adobe Flash Player for my machine?

First thing - My computer -   PROCESSOR: Intel Celeron 450 @2.2 Ghz,  MEMORY: 4GB,  OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit,  BROWSER:  IE 9.0.8112.16421
Everything was hunky-dory until the auto-installer updated my version to the Flash Player 11.2 version and that's when it all went downhill.  As soon as it installed that version, none of the TV networks, news networks or Hulu recognized that I had Adobe Flash Player.  In addition, I could no longer create a blank new tab in IE or use the tools button (the little gear symbol) in the upper right hand of an IE window.  Because of the IE problems, I figured it was a problem with IE and went about searching for a solution in that arena.  I finally found something at Microsoft that helped me determine if it was an IE problem and went through the various steps.  The final step required booting into safemode and trying to replicate the problem.  IE worked fine in safemode so, Microsoft determined the problem had to be with outside influences.
After several frustrating attempts with other fixes including virus scanning and firewall settings, the problem persisted.  I then un-installed Flash Player per Adobe's instruction and re-installed the recommended 'latest' version.  The problem remained.  So, when all else had failed I did a full system restore to a point over a month ago, which is prior to the occurence of the problem, while at the same time noting which drivers and programs would be affected.  I already had a sneaking suspicion that it was Flash Player because I read the full system requirements for the recommended version that the auto installer was trying to install (see below).  I then began updating everything one at a time to see if any of the windows/software/driver updates had any affect on IE.  None did until I got to the Adobe Flash Player and updated it.
Now, what I think the problem is:  The auto installer ONLY looks at Operating System and Browser to determine which version of Adobe Flash Player is correct.  In this regard, my machine should use the latest 11.2 version.  HOWEVER, if you look at the full system requirements for the 11.2 versions, you will note that it requires a...... 2.33 Ghz processor!  In this regard, 11.2 is NOT the correct version for my machine as it only has a 2.2 Ghz processor.  And I think therein lies the problem.
So.  I freely admit that I am not a computer expert and am, in fact, so far removed from ever even contemplating wearing such a title that I'm sure all who read this are sitting in your offices having a good laugh at my expense.  As such, I welcome anyone and everyone to tell me what I've done wrong and how I should go about fixing it.  If my deductions are correct, then could someone please tell me how to choose the correct version for my machine and then tell me how to actually install it on my machine.
I know that this is a long post and I thank you all for your patience and any help you choose to offer me.

    Mr. Willener,
    Thank you for your reply.
I did un-install and then re-install per the Adobe recommendations which are what you listed in your reply.  The problem remained until I did a MS Windows restore to a restore point a month or so ago.  The IE problems vanished.  However, now I'm using an outdated and unsupported version that is lower than most of the web pages require for their sites, at least the ones I want to view (they all say I need to upgrade my Flash Player which, when I did, put me in this fix).
    As to:

    Usuallyexasperated wrote:

You can safely ignore that requirement; it is simply not true.
Why would Adobe post a system requirement of 2.33 Ghz for 11.2 if it simply were not true?

I am wiping my current windows bootcamp partition and reinstalling windows using disk utility /bootcamp wizard to clean up and reinstall.
just curious if the Thunderbolt drivers get installed from bootcamp/windows sofytware update as I can't remember iif i had to do it manually before. I do see it shows up on windows side in device manager and if it is pluggged in during boot screen (to windows 7 pro 64 bit) shows ASMedia drivers being loaded for it.
    Thanks

thank you so much I was pretty sure it did but wanted to be 100% sure as purpose of clean install was to clean up some mishaps I did with office 2007 (custom install), etc.

How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?

Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Need to dowload correct version of Firefox for Mac OS X 10.3.9

I have an old Mac which I will be retiring soon...as soon as I can get my information off it. To do so, I need to be able to use Firefox to upload it to a cloud storage system. But... I need the correct version of Firefox which will work with my old system. Any ideas? I certainly appreciate it.

The last version of Firefox to work on OS X 10.3.9 was Firefox 2.0.0.20, you can get it from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/
That link is for the English-US version.

  • Correct version of jdeveloper to use with Oracle App Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2

    Hi,
I just want to be sure, I am new to JDeveloper and I would just like to verify/ask what correct version of JDeveloper should we use so we could deploy the finished applications on our Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 without errors?
Looking at this support matrix: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/11/as_supportmatrix.html#1013
I think we can use JDeveloper 10g (10.1.2)?
I downloaded Jdeveloper 10.1.2 from this link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/htdocs/soft10g.html.
Will this work well with Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2?
    Thank you very much,

But when I try to do the same analysis that what they explained in the video course, I found that options are not available in the tool that I downloaded. Could you plz advise where can I get the correct version of the tool or video course ??
    Thanks

    Hi Kumar,
you have downloaded the latest version of the tool. It is the video tutorial that is a little bit out of date. Most of the features are available in the current version of Memory Analyzer, but the menues and toolbar buttons might look different (e.g. the icons were replaced).
If you list the functions you are missing (cannot find) - I will guide you how to find them.
    Best Regards,
    Elena.

I talked to your guys yesterday about installing correct version of Lightroom 5 which I legally owned, and your guy provided me a download link (different from Creative cloud account), but somehow it was for Windows version not for Mac version. I would very much like to download a Mac version, so please send my correct web link. By the way my s. number for Lightroom 5 up is [removed], and I also have s.number for 4 up and 3 full.

The latest non-CC version of LR 5 is 5.7.1 and download links are available on the Adobe Updates page:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Both Mac and Win links are there.
If you are asking for a LR 5 CC link, which wouldn't require a serial number, please be more clear about that.

  • How to choose correct version of editing app when choosing to edit image from within InDesign?

    Hi all,
Normally when I wish to edit an image that is in a layout in InDesign I either press option-click on the image or I ctrl-click on the image and choose to edit it using Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC or whatever app I need to use at any specific time. Well, I also have backups going that backup my entire system and so all of my applications get backed up as well.
Well, what is happening now (since today) is that when I choose to edit the image, it is opening Photoshop (or Illustrator, etc.) from my BACK-UP drive and not within the app on my main drive. So, even tho' I already have Photoshop open as I am working in InDesign, when I try to edit an image it will open up the BACKUP copy of Photoshop AS well I have tried to choose "other" when ctrl-clicking on the image and choosing to edit...but when I navigate over to where Photoshop is on my main drive, I cannot choose the main app because it seems to show the main Photoshop app as a folder with the package contents therein.
How on earth can I correct the path to the correct version of Photoshop where I need to do the editing?? I now have to go about things a roundabout way by navigating to where the image is in the finder (via ctrl-clicking on the image link in the LINKS panel and choosing "show in finder") but this is taking twice as long:(( It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have as many images I need to work with that I currently do.
Any help or advice will be much appreciated:))
    Thank you kindly,
    Christine

    Just guessing...
Does the problem exist if Photoshop CC on the main drive is open? If not, consider setting it to open when the computer starts up. The active instance might take precedence over the inactive one.
Usually, the last-installed instance of an application is the one that operating systems (OS X & Windows) associate with a document file that calls for the application, for example, when double clicking in Finder/Explorer. It's common to see the newest release invoked (say Photoshop CC rather than Photoshop CS 6) because the newest release is usually the last one installed. Because Adobe CS applications usually install new versions of common files, it's recommended to install releases in chronological order if it's necessary to reinstall applications when there are multiple instances on the same computer. For example, install Photoshop CS4, then CS5, then CS6; if an earlier release is installed when a newer is present, the earlier common file(s) may cause problems for the application. A consequence of this is the normal, but sometimes annoying, behavior that when launching an application by launching one of its files, the newest release is opened because that's how the operating system works.
In your case, it's possible that the operating system sees the backup drive's Photoshop installation as the newest installation, and launches it. Perhaps backing up Photoshop CC makes that instance appear newer to the OS. Consider leaving Photoshop CC out of the backup operation. If that works, fine! If not, you might try starting the computer from the backup drive, running Photoshop, then quitting and restarting the computer from the main drive. If that doesn't fix the problem, perhaps try starting from the backup drive again, then reinstalling Photoshop on it, then restarting from the main drive. If this works, it may "hold," or some operation like backing up, might negate all your smart tricks.
Perhaps one of these strategies may be a permanent fix.
    HTH

  • Windows file association to correct version of InDesign.

I support customers using older versions of InDesign: CS3 and CS4. I have both installed on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop. Depending on which version a document was saved with, there is a different icon associated with the file. That tells me that Windows does in fact recognize a difference between the files. Double-clicking any InDesign document in an explorer window always opens the file in CS4 -- regardless of which version the document was saved as. Is there a way to "inform" Windows to launch the correct version of InDesign to access any given document?
