Correcting windowboxing of 16:9 stuff

I have an editing reel which has some mixed 4:3 and 16:9 material.  I have been recommended to pillarbox it all so it looks more fluent.
The issue is that the 16:9 stuff gets 'windowboxed' i.e. both pillarboxed and letterboxed.  Or squared simply.  How can I remove this on FCPX?
Please see showreel to see what I'm working with currently (due to the temp uncleared score I'm working with, some users in certain territories may not be able to view)
Thanks for your help

How exactly are you pillarboxing it?  I'd not do that.  Just let the anamorphic stuff fill the screen and look its best.  Let the 4:3 stuff be naturally pillarboxed, nothing wrong with that, folks are used to it these days.  As for what is happening in your current timeline, I'd check the Spacial Conform setting in the Inspector.

  • How can I correct "hidden" text in a searchable PDF file?

    This seems like a simple question. However, the answers are invariably complex, do not yield the desired result, and often answer a different question entirely. I say all that just to warn people up front that the "problem" is easier than how many people and PDF application developers, including Adobe, typically understand it while the proposed "solutions" are invariably a total...well, botch is a reasonable word if a bit understated.
    Here is the actual problem:
    I have "searchable" PDF files created by scanning documents and running them through an OCR process. I create "searchable" PDF files in order to archive, index, and eventually enable searching for the documents scanned. A "searchable" PDF satisfies those criteria better than any other commonly used, "portable" archive format -- though I would be happy if someone could point out an obvious alternative I may have overlooked. I do not need perfect OCR results. If I need a document to edit or perhaps feed into a spreadsheet or database, I expect to be able to reprocess the page images in a given "searchable" PDF file to OCR and convert the contents to Word, RTF, Excel, or another file format as necessary with more care for the results than for the archived document itself. Therefore, the "searchable" PDF document is the scanned page images which compose it while the OCR generated "searchable" text is secondary, but still important. Therefore, each file must contain scanned page images of sufficient detail to be efficiently converted by OCR if possible and legible enough for whoever views the images to be able to work out what an OCR process may fail to understand. Once scanned, those pages are the "document" and therefore "immutable." However, OCR is imperfect. For a searchable document archive, it does not have to be, but some errors are significant in that they may prevent the document from being found by a search. Therefore, there must be a way to view and, if necessary, edit the "hidden" text in a "searchable" PDF without altering the visual display of a document or how it is printed. No strike-throughs. No visible "corrections." None of the stuff PDF editors want to insert into a PDF file when editing it. I do not want to edit the document without exporting it to a format appropriate for an editable document. I just want adequately "correct" hidden text in a "searchable" PDF file.
    I apologize for the length and redundancy in my description of the problem. However, past attempts to explain my problem and objectives as well as what I have seen in reply to similar queries across the Internet indicate that most people trying to answer this question come at it from the same point of view shared by most, if not all, PDF tool or application vendors. They seem to think that any desire to edit a PDF file is a desire to have a PDF word processor of some sort. Or, they assume that the OCR process employed may need tweaking of the means by which people apply it and then a process like "find suspects" is adequate to deal with any errors. But no, those are not what I am trying to accomplish and answers which address those topics do not answer this question.
    In short, which tool or application from any vendor will reveal the "searchable" hidden text in a PDF produced by any OCR or other process and then enable corrections to the hidden text without changing any document display parameters at all? Note, hidden text typically includes bounding box information denoting the portion of the image from which the text was recognized. That information must not be lost or changed when editing the "searchable" text.
    So, any tools or applications capable of doing this? If Adobe Acrobat XI Pro can (use of a trial copy demonstrated that the hidden text content can be reviewed, but editing did not work by any straight-forward means I could work out while trying out the application), fine. However, $500.00 list or even a $200.00 possible upgrade from a copy of Adobe Acrobat X Standard which came with my scanner is a lot of money for personal use when review and edit of the OCR generated hidden text in a "searchable" PDF file is the only function I require. Therefore, other suggested tools or applications which do what I need for less would be greatly appreciated.

    My "claim"? Actually I've made no "claim" such as you've mentioned.
    Simply stated your OP has foundational premises that presume as factual what is not.
    Here, we're in Adobe's hosted user forum for Acrobat.
    Any other application use is not material.
    Acrobat XI provides 3 OCR methods.
    Searchable Image, Searchable Image (Exact) & ClearScan.
    Only the first two provide the "hidden" text output.
    (Glyphs have no stroke, no fill)
    From back to the Acrobat 3 product family the design functionality of Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact) has been to facilitate the use of Find / Search.
    The "hidden" text is can be touched up. Acrobat Pro provides the facility to view the hidden text.
    So you can see what the OCR output that correlates to the bit-map images of the characters that are present.
    With Acrobat XI Pro use Tools - Protection -Remove Hidden Information
    In the Remove Hidden Information pane select "Hidden text" then "Show preview".
    The default for the preview is "Show Only Hidden Text".
    Back in the PDF --
    You'd select some of the hidden text and retype what you suspect is the correct string of characters.
    Save and return to the preview of the hidden text.
    If you got it right, good. Continue.
    If not, darn - try again.
    Plug 'n chug -- somewhere over the rainbow it'll be done eh.
    Full disclosure -- this is something I've done (enquiring minds don't you know).
    I've found it to be a rather Sisypean undertaking.
    So, "doable" but not practicable.
    This is to be expected because such touchups are not the concern / focus of the output from Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact) - (the names tell it all).
    To have touchup "editablity" of an OCR output using Acrobat make use of ClearScan.
    ClearScan replaces recognized character bit-maps with a character from an Acrobat internal font.
    The character strings can be selected to change to a generic, system available font.
    Something that is good to know when embarking on the "tweak the PDF" journey is that PDF (the file format / technology as defined by its ISO Standard, ISO 32000-1) does not tolerate "editing". PDF is decidely not a word processor file format and "editing" can quickly render a PDF unusable.
    Minor touchups can be made and your best "tool" for this is still Acrobat Pro. (Save As often and periodically "bank" the PDF via some file rename scheme.)
    Be well...

  • Serious trouble with new iPod - maybe you can help?

    Please help if you can. 15 hours into troubleshooting this and I am desperate!!!
    I just purchased a new 5th-gen, 60GB ipod. I already have a 1st gen, 10GB iPod. My old iPod is presently working great with no problems.
    The new iPod, however, is not being recognized by my computer or by iTunes. And when I try to plug it in, iTunes freaks. It will stop playing music and freeze on me.
    Here is what happened:
    1. I knew I had the latest iTunes & iPod software on my computer, so rather than running the CD that came with the iPod, I just plugged in the iPod.
    2. When I did so, the computer recognized it as a new device and attempted to (I assume - not sure) install a driver for a while. This went on for about an hour, something seemed wrong, so I disconnected the iPod.
    3. At this point, connecting it always has the same behavior. It flashes "don't disconnect". ITunes freezes. Windows Explorer does not recognize or acknowledge its existence.
    Here is what I have tried to do:
    1. I first tried installing from the CD. This installed an older version of iTunes on my computer. This did not help matters and stopped my current iPod from working.
    2. I troubleshooted this and managed to fix my old iPod by uninstalled all iTunes and iPod versions from my computer and reinstalling all of the latest bits.
    3. I have doublechecked my USB ports to ensure they are USB 2.0.
    4. I have tried restarting my iPod in file mode to see if the computer will recognize it then. No dice.
    5. I have tried an iPod reboot, obviously.
    6. I have restarted my computer innumerable times.
    My gut says this is a driver issue, but I'm not remotely qualified to troubleshoot that. Can anyone help?

    Hey, I've got a few questions for you. 1. What kind of computer are you using? (ie: laptop, desktop, whatever else there is..) 2. Have you ever had the 5th Gen. working on you're computer? 3. Have you tried you're 5th Gen. on another computer which, in the past, has detected an iPod?
    Done with questions for now I believe. Here's my story. My girlfriend got her iPod (5th Gen.) in April and right when she got it, she hurried over to my house because she's "technologically incompetant". Booted up my Alienware (now an artifact after being purchased new around 1998-2000) and installed all the gadgets just like the instructions said. After finishing all that, I slapped the iPod into a USB2.0 port and WindowsXP detected, found, and installed the driver for the iPod. I used iTunes to put about 500MB's of songs on there then sent her off with her new WORKING (at the moment) iPod. A few weeks later, I guess when she killed the battery, she tells me that her iPod isnt working.
    Long story short...
    She's using a brand new Dell Inspiron [some number and letters here] laptop computer with WindowsXP.
    I did everything exactly as you had described in your first post. Few things are different, her computer has never detected the iPod, WindowsXP never found or installed a driver. When her iPod is plugged into her computer, the iPod either brings up a little battry with a lightening bolt (like it's charging) or brings up the "Do Not Disconnect" screen. After a few hours of leaving it like that and I unplug the iPod, it hastn't gained any charge. I checked to make sure everything, ie: plug and play, were all working correctly and all that good stuff; however, one thing phases me. I took her iPod back to my house and tried it on the computer that had the player working before. After a minute of plugging it in, it was detected and I could add or remove songs using iTunes, in other words: IT WAS WORKING.
    I would like to see some kind of solution to our problem (which I believe to be the same) so that I don't have to drive an hour away to the only iPod (Mac) store around to replace it (luckily it is still on the warranty).
    If you make any progress, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • When I try to purchase songs the ITunes Stores says the session has timed out and to check my network settings

    When I try to purchase songs in the ITune Store a message pops up and says my session is timed out and to make sure my network settings are correct.

    I have been doing stuff with my account and my wife and kids accounts all day trying to setup home sharing.  I got that all setup but the whole account access and so on and iTunes store has been horrendous today.  I constantly have been timing out trying to update emails on accounts and change passwords as well as buy stuff off the store.
    So your not the only ones for sure something is going on

  • How to Rebuild OS X Server

    I need to rebuild my OS X Server, and I'd like to do this from scratch without resorting to migration assistant tools.
    Briefly, my server crashes every 3-5 days, whether booting from an internal HD or an external CCC clone. Getting it to work after that requires a safe reboot -- a major pain. I've ruled out memory problems, external hardware problems, and disk/bad block problems. That leaves data corruption, which means I have to reinstall the OS and everything else from scratch. I performed a completely fresh install of 10.9.2 on the internal drive (erase/reparition/CCC to create recovery parition/Recovery Mode>Install OS X).
    Now I must rebuild OS X Server and everything that goes with it: DNS, Open Directory, User Accounts, Profile Manager, Web, Mail/Calendar/Contacts, PostGreSQL, and more. I know how to perform rebuilds for single items like recovering an OD Master from backup, but I don't know how to retore user accounts with their email and jabber messages and the like, or the correct order of all this stuff. And I'm wary of guessing because OS X Server can be very fragile.
    How do I rebuild OS X Server on a new OS X install?
    I have backups and more backups, both Time Machine and bootable CCC clones. I can easily boot into the old, presumably corrupted OS, and use it to create anything additional I need. I'd greatly appreciate any pointers or advice. After I get Server rebuilt, I'll also have questions about migrating local accounts and the keychains that go with them.

    > What exactly happens when it crashes?
    This happens with both an internal drive, and a Carbon Copy Clone of the internal drive:
    1. Crashes or freezes occur regularly within days: either the box powers off instantly, or it freezes with a black screen except for arrow cursor, and no network access.
    2. On reboot, authentication to all emails accounts (it's own, as well as gmail, iCloud, and the rest) all fail, as does jabber and other authentication. Mobile clients are able to authenticate to OS X Sever services, indicating some cache corruption on the server.
    3. Disk utility>Verify, Repair on the partition often (not always) indicates incorrect block sizes for many files. Repair always works.
    4. A safe reboot plus normal reboot fixes the authentication problems, and the server will run "normally" until it crashes days later, unless there's a disk repair required.
    5. If I run without disk repair, the Mail service works, then consistently fails within a day, but "sudo serveradmin stop/start mail" fixes this.
    I've learned that for every crash I must boot into recovery, repair the drive, then do a safe reboot, then a normal one. This, obviously, is a giant pain.
    I've tried replacing the memory, and the behavior is the same whether using 8 GB or 16 GB DIMMs, PV resets then booting naked and watching the logs as I plug usb devices into a fresh boot, and booting from clones. Nothing is working
    I've scoured the logs and don't see a thing that might indicate the problem—the logs just stop when the crash appears, so I'm unable to diagnose the actual problem.
    The last reasonable thing to try is a completely fresh reinstall. I may be being overly conservative by avoiding the Time Machine migration, but given the symptoms above, perhaps not.
    What I'd like to try is to copy all OS X Server functionality from one instance (CCC clone) to another (fresh OS X on internal HD), using export/import tools and commands like slapconfig. This box is getting a little long in the tooth anyway, and I expect to refresh it whenever the new minis arrive, so rebuilding the server is something I expect to do soon anyway.

    hello,
    i installed WDS+MDT for OS deployment. all was working fine.
    Now i need our branch office to be able to deploy OS as well.
    I installed a new Win 2008R2 server, and installed the WDS service on it.
    When reading about this on the internet i saw i need, on the MDT at our main office, to make a link, under "Advanced Configuration" - "Linked Deployment Shares" to the new WDS server (I used this: http://www.balm.se/?p=115")
    when doing so i entered the UNC path to the new server and then, on the created link, i right click and choose "Replicate now".
    after doing so, i tried booting a laptop just to see if there is any impact, and now, I'm getting this error:

    For a branch solution I would use DFS(R) rather than linked deploymentshares.
    If there is infrastructure at the remote sites you could use the MDT environment at your main site, and  then at each other site use an existing server or build a new server (VM is available). Create a Deploymentshare on each sever
    and copy the contents of the MDT environment from the first site into this share.  Next you will have to add the WDS service to each site's server. For WDS add the boot image. Of course as Keith noted ensure that you
    have the same versions of MDT and the WAIK/ADK on all systems
    You can use DFS to replicate to all of the other sites, but you will still have to create a deploymentshare, and install WDS at each site. So each site talks to its own WDS server you can use the DefaultGateway parameter instead -
    [Settings]
    Priority=Default, DefaultGateway
    [Default]
    SkipBDDWelcome=YES
    [DefaultGateway]
    192.168.10.1=Bergen
    192.168.20.1=Oslo
    [Bergen]
    DeployRoot=\\MDT-Bergen\DeploymentShare$
    [Oslo]
    DeployRoot=\\MDT-Oslo\DeploymentShare$

  • Firefox downloads PDF with wrong extension instead of opening a websites' PDF viewer

    I have a problem with websites that want to provide their own PDF viewer. Instead of launching their viewer, Firefox wants to download the PDF. I'd be perfectly fine with that ***if it downloaded with the correct .pdf extension so that Preview would actually open the PDF***. But that's not what happens; I end up with something like "RetrieveDocument.aspx" or "Retrieve.srv".
    I've tried resetting my download options (http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions). Didn't help.
    I saw some stuff about other plugins I can install. Here's the thing: *this stuff works fine in Chrome and Safari*. Maybe websites aren't tagging their content correctly or something, but this stuff works fine in two other browsers.

    Hello,
    In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
    #Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
    #In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
    #In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
    #On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • System freezing

    Hi all.
    I would first like to say thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to look at this.
    I am new to archlinux and semi new to linux in general.  I have installed arch on my desktop and it runs fine for what seems like a random amount of time.  Xfce just freezes and I can not do anything to make the system responsive.  control-alt-backspace,  SysRq keys, virtual console switching, etc.  Nothing seems to work.  I can not even SSH into the box from another machine once it has locked up.
    Any help anyone can give me would be greatly greatly appreciated.
    I have attached some of my logs below along with lsmod, lspci dmesg output in case that helps.
    EDIT:
    I have edited my post and put my output between code tags.  Sorry about that.  New to the forums and I was not sure what the proper etiquette was.  Posting my logs and command output as raw text felt wrong but I was not sure what the alternative was.  I see now that with a bit of research I should have been able to find the correct way to post that stuff.  I apologise for littering up the forum.

    My thought process was followed similar lines.
    I have kept track of what has been going when freezes occur and there does not seem to be any pattern to running programs at the time of the crashes.
    I have let memtest (from the arch installation cd) run for over 10 hours and it does not detect any memory problems.
    I have considered hard drive problems as well.  I ran Steve Gibson's SpinRite software on the hard disk on every level it has including dynastat.  SpinRite can not detect a single problem with the surface of the disk or the way data is read from it.
    As far as temp goes it does not feel overly hot when the system freezes but I suppose that it is possible.  I am not sure how to set up monitoring for that.  I guess I could find some kind of gui or command line tool that runs in a loop and outputs temp info to a file that I could review after a crash.  I'll try that but my gut says that it is going to be something else.
    There are seg faults and other messages in the logs and command output that I have attached above that look suspicious to me but unfortunately I don't know enough to make use of them.  Google does not seem to be shedding any light on the situation for me either.  Is there anything in there that should be sticking out at me?
    Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for replying.  Also, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to post a follow up.  I appreciate the help.

  • Payment info issue

    So everytime I try to download an app, free or paid, I keep getting asked to verify my payment information. But all the information is correct and I downloaded some stuff yesterday and had no issues until now. And when I hit done, it says to contact itunes support. Which does not help me at all... Anyone have a remedy for this?

    Hello there, 3a9fiura.

  • Date and Time and others not working after 10.5.6- its driving me bonkers

    Recently, after booting my computer and logging in (I am the sole user and it auto logs in).
    Well only 3 things show up in the upper right menu bar:
    Spotlight, and two 3rd party items, I added (connect360 and bootchamp)
    But airport and Date and Time do not sow up at all. When I go to System preferences I see that things are all screwed up: the box that says "show date and time in menu bar" is always unchecked. If I recheck it will revert the next time I open up the preference pane. Another odd this is it that it lets me click the boxes even when the padlock is locked.
    Now, I can log out and then log back in, and it loads everything correctly. But really its stuff like this that drives me bonkers. Anyone have a similar problem or a solution?
    I am going to try and disable auto-login and see if it works the first time when I login. If it works it will be better than right now but, it will still irritate me.
    Thanks in advance

    You might try moving the apple.com.systempreferences.plist (in the Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder) to the desktop and restarting or log-out/log-in.
    If it doesn’t help, you can move the .plist file back into the Preferences folder, replacing the new one it created to restore your original settings.

  • Personnel number 00000000 could not be locked; lock 00000000 failed twice

    Hi!
    I'm trying to create new person to SAP HCM by using SAP ERP HCM Process and Forms functionality. Process is defined to be fast entry process: NO_WORKFLOW value in workflow template.
    I have defined process' attributes CENTRAL_PERSON as blank and PERNR attribute to get default value from business process logic's (DEF) from SAP_PA (infotype 1: 0001-PERNR).
    When process is trying to check values it gives me error "Perosnal number 00000000 could not be locked; lock 00000000 failed twice". Error's message class is HRASR00_FBD and message number is 011.
    I debugged the ISR process and the actual error is raised in CL_HRPA_MASTERDATA_ENQ_DEQ class' method ENQUE_BY_PERNR.

    So, I'm out of ideas. How to prevent locking for person number 00000000 when creating new employee by using SAP HCM Processes & Forms?
    Best regards,
    -Timo

    Hi!
    I asked this from SAP. I got following answer:
    Error "Personnel number &1 could not be locked; lock & failed twice - HRASR00_FBD 011" is sometimes raised due to default value of field PERSG, PERSK, and WERKS. Can you please make sure that these fields have a manual default value assigned on your process to be sure that pernr can be generated?
    You can also try to check whether standard hire processes like HIRE_01 or HIRE_10 are working correctly or same lock error is raised.
    I valuated also PERSG, PERSK and WERKS and after that the process was valuated with new personnel number taken from number range.
    So result was that new number was taken from number range immediatelly when my data entry form was shown (I use process without workflow = fast entry) --> If user uses to form without saving (= abort new employee creation), one number is taken from number range, but not used. I ended up with solution that system is not getting the number automatically in start of the process (= I don't valute those PERSG, PESK and WERKS, they are valuated in form by user anyway). Instead I take manually new number form employee's number range (RP_PREL) before the data checks by using function module NUMBER_GET_NEXT.
    Hopefully the solution by valuating PERSG, PERSK and WERKS works for you.

  • Dynamic XML PDF not importing fields

    I have a PDF developed in Livecycle and saved as a dynamic XML.
    My database is MS Access and from this I've exported a query saved as an XML file, a XSD schema and an XSL stylesheet. (files attached)
    I'm trying to populate the PDF from the above mentioned files client-side. I have the fields set up to display in a table with repeating rows.
    It seems that I've set everything up okay and I get no error generated in the log file when I preview the PDF in Livecycle, but, the fields are not
    being generated.
    I suspect maybe this is because I don't have the nested forms set up properly for a flowed subform. But I should get at least the first row generated
    shouldn't I, if it is reading the nodes in the XML?
    Attached is (a mock-up) of the PDF along with the XML, XSD and XLS. This form should flow to other pages when dynamically built and I'm hoping to
    display the header on each page (the header will be on the Master Page -- it will contain site links, etc.)
    I hope to not only import data to a PDF this way but also to export fields from the PDF in the same way for database edits...
    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong in the attached?
    And, on another note... do all of the above need to be in the same folder together on the server or can I put the PDF in one folder and the XML, XSD
    and XLS a different folder? (Or the PDF and XLS in the same folder and XML and XSD files in a different folder, etc.)...
    Thanks for any reponses on this.

    Sorry for the delay in replying to this post. I got stuck at a friend's from the weekend snow we had... and am finally back on my own computer.
    Just before leaving Friday I found the problem with the form not displaying data fields read from the XML.
    It's a bit embarrassing to admit but, per Steve's instruction here to change the form preview properties (file/form properties) (thanks, Steve!) - I changed the preview from 'print one-sided' to 'interactive' and noticed that I had not set up the link to the XML under 'Data File'. Duh! So, it is reading the data from the XML now.
    However... For the form to display, I had to (under 'connection properties) take the XSLT file off. Under 'Connection Properties' the form is set up as XML Schema with the link to the XSD set up.
    The problem now is that a few of the dynamic fields are numbers. These number fields in the database only have two digits to the right of the decimal point (as in 93.79) but when the form loads these fields in the table in preview mode these fields contain 8 digits to the right of the decimal point (as in 93.79362082). I don't know why this is except that maybe it is because it's no longer reading from the XSLT file. All I want it to do is read the field exactly as it is in the database...
    The table on the form doesn't display as it should either. The table expands with the rows its presenting but this runs to the very bottom of the page and doesn't flow to the next page. I've tried changing the size of the 'root' form on the Master page as well as the size of the 'parent' subform of the table subform but the table still runs to the bottom of the page... I'll keep playing around with this until I fix it unless someone can point me in the right direction...
    Thanks for any leads on this...
    (new corrected file attached)
    Graham, this stuff really is interesting! These handful of files working together to build a dynamic PDF, reading the database XSD schema, an XML file and the XSL file as well as throwing in some Javascript functions is really cool... I'm also (hopefully) planning to have Cold Fusion query the database, depending on the login person's admin privilages, parse the fields from the database and build the XML file from this data 'on the fly' at login... Quite a lot going on in the background here to build the PDF! (I wish I could answer your question about the stylesheet but, obviously from the above, I'm a novice at this - I'm new at this and trying to grope my way around this stuff in the dark. These forums have been helpful as well as googling questions, but, there is still a learning curve here. I'm pretty rough with Javascript as well and that's a big feature of this stuff...)
    Thanks to anyone for direction on getting this file to display properly and the number fields to show the same as in database...

  • How to link a static library in java

    Hi all
    I would like add a static library (with an extension of ".a") to my java program
    and use the rutines in it. I made a search on the Internet but could not find much.
    The library created by compiling several fortran programs.
    Does anyone know how to do this (linking & calling the subrutines)
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion and for the tip again. I am doing what
    you suggested (writing a C program to interface java with that static library
    ( ".a") ) But where in the C code do you specify and include that static library?This is mainly a linking issue. Suppose the FORTRAN API exposes the following
    functions: FBQ001, FCQ042 and FDB005 (well, this is FORTRAN, so the names
    should be silly ;-)
    For the sake of simplicity, assume that these three routines don't take parameters
    and don't return a value.
    You could create a little Java class that could (indirectly) access those three
    routines:public class FORTRANWrapper {
       public static native void FBQ001();
       public static native void FCQ042();
       public static native void FDB005();
       static {
          System.loadLibrary("wrapperlib");
    }Note the little static block that loads your own wrapper lib. Read on:
    use javah against this little class above. It'll generate a .h file containing the
    prototypes of the three wrapper functions for your FORTRAN API.
    Note the funky names generated by javah. Don't change them but create a
    simple .c file with the implementation of those functions. These functions
    should simply call the FORTRAN functions; check your manuals how to
    call FORTRAN routines from C.
    Finally, compile your .c file and link it against the static FORTRAN .a library.
    Use the correct linker flags (system dependent stuff here) to create a
    shared object (.so) file. This should generate your wrapperlib.so file,
    loaded by the System.loadLibrary method (see above).
    kind regards,
    Jos

  • Finder Right Click Woes - Intel iMAC 20" Core 2 Duo (NEW)

    Okay, I was hoping someone can check this for me on their new iMAC. I have found an issue where if I right click (or control click) three or more times in a row on the desktop or any other finder window, finder performs a relaunch. I am hoping that its just a bug with the new iMAC. But, either way its rather annoying.
    System Information:
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.10 (8R4031)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 8.10.3
    Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
    Model Name: Mac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B00
    SMC Version: 1.20f4
    Thanks if anyone can assist. I have been on the phone with MAC support now for a little more than three hours. Next step from them is reload the OS. But, this is a factory installation and I havent had time to do much but copy stuff from my other MACs.
    Thanks for any advise or if you have the same issue.
    Best regards,
    Jason

    Yo Dave:
    After performing the re-installation (per technical supports suggestion) every thing worked fine. Then looking at your post I really wanted to know what started this whole mess in the first place. So, I started StuffIt Expander and after the initialization of the application the issue came up again.
    Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. You were correct. I had installed StuffIt Expander Deluxe 11.02 (which is the latest version). This application installs a contextual menu in the /Library/Contextual Menu folder. The file is called StuffitCM.plugin. By removing this file the issue is now gone.
    Stuffit still works now even with this file removed. So, all is good.
    Again, Dave thank you for your insight.
    Jason

  • Simulating console activity in Java

    Hello,
    I have a small Java program that basically uses telnet to connect to another server. Currently, the program basically acts like the regular telnet client. When I run it, I get the basic login screen that I normally get in the standard command line. I can input my username and password and login normally through the console of this program.
    I want to automate this. Basically, I want the program to detect that there is a prompt and input the correct information accordingly. So when it sees the word "login:" it puts in a username etc.
    I am using the apache.commons.net package to do this (as I was unable to find something else). The code was taken from http://www.java2s.com/Code/Java/Network-Protocol/ExampleofuseofTelnetClient.htm
    The program uses a thread to display the text onto the screen. Here is the function that takes care of this:
        public void run()
            InputStream instr = tc.getInputStream();
            try
                byte[] buff = new byte[1024];
                int ret_read = 0;
                do
                    ret_read = instr.read(buff);
                    if(ret_read > 0)
                        System.out.print(new String(buff, 0, ret_read));
                while (ret_read >= 0);
            catch (Exception e)
                System.err.println("Exception while reading socket:" + e.getMessage());
            try
                tc.disconnect();
            catch (Exception e)
                System.err.println("Exception while closing telnet:" + e.getMessage());
        }Something needs to be changed in here I'm guessing, but I have no clue what to use to achieve this. I already have it implemented using a perl script but the organization I'm with wants to standardize everything and eliminate the dependencies for this application. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    P.S. I wasn't sure if this is the correct forum to post this stuff into. Please move the thread if it belongs elsewhere

    I have a bot that run inside of our subnet and monitor all our Solaris servers via telnet. The gist of the solution is to read from the stream and buffer the input until you see something you can parse. You then interpret the result and send the corresponding commands though the wire. The reason for the buffering is that the read can be discontinuous, so you might see "log" first and then follow by "in:" on the next read. The parsing won't be trivial, but you can just treat it like a simple state machine. Line length can also be problematic, as some commands could wrap its output arbitrarily, so a newline is not a reliable delimiting token.
