Correr GPO Startup de Autologin en Windows 7
Mi name is Emiliano from Argentina. (sorry for my bad english)
I'm testing GPO Startup AutoLogin on a LAB
I have a Windows server 2012 (Domain Controller) and Workstation Windows 7. (Client)
The GPO to this OU linked where the Workstation and the idea is that the workstation make a auto login of a service user in the domain.
The script in this format. BAT in the following path in the GPO (Computer Configuration \ Windows Settings \ scripts \ startup) (
\\domain\sysvol\policies\scripts\startup\Autologin.BAT)
The script has the following content.
@ echo off
reg import
\\domain\sysvol\policies\scripts\startup\Autologin.REG)
When the workstation starts, the script does not apply.
Login with the Administrator, restart the computer again, and the GPO applies.
Delete registry keys, restart and GPO does not apply, it's like applying after I make the Login and then reboot.
I need the GPO applies Auto-Login during Startup SO.
> I need is that the workstation(Terminal Kiosk Banking) perform a Startup
> Auto-Login with a domain account via GPO.
AutoAdminLogon is the method of choice since NT4. The reg keys still
work in Win8.1...

Powershell startup scripts fail on Windows 8.1 with error 267
GPO Powershell startup script fails to execute on Windows 8.1, but does run on Windows 8 and Windows 7. Powershell logon scripts run normally on all versions of Windows.
The event log contains entries with event ID 1130 from the GroupPolicy source. The log entries claim error 267 "directory name is invalid".
Running cmd.exe on Windows 8.1 under the computer's account (NT Authority\SYSTEM) confirms that the Powershell script's path in SYSVOL is valid and the script executes normally.
Running procmon on Windows 8.1 while the startup script is being run on a computer shows that the computer caches the files and folders for this GPO into C:\Windows\system32\GroupPolicy.
I am not sure why these scripts are failing to execute on Windows 8.1 when they run on Windows 8 and the same set of GPOs are applied to both Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 computers.These are all good suggestions, but I have already tried to eliminate:
All environment variables
All network paths
Setup the GPO to reference the script by the file name and with a full absolute path. Neither worked.
Tried copying the scripts to multiple folders inside the policy, since the event log message reports only the root path of the policy.
I also used procmon to monitor how the computer handles the startup scripts. I found that the computer caches them into a folder under C:\Windows\System32, but never runs any of them. I never found an error that I could correlate with the event log.
For instance the following one line scripts failed to run:
'I AM HERE.' | sc -path C:\Windows\TEMP\TEST.txt
write-host 'I AM HERE.'
As far as I can see the first script relies on the existence of C:\Windows\TEMP and write permission to it, which SYSTEM should have.
The second one liner has no dependencies at all and it doesn't run with the same error.
I have created multiple GPOs and scripts, so if there was a problem in creating these files and folders it is happening over and over. I checked the permissions and computer accounts have read and execute permissions all throughout the GPOs.
Everything works perfectly on Windows 7 and 8, just not on 8.1. -

There must be a misunderstanding, I have not written that I use version 12, I use version 13
and the solution was to disable the file OldFilm.AEX

After I posted post 2, I saw your other thread where you wrote about using Premiere Elements 12/12.1
Is Adobe force you to buy a update by stopping your old one? It doesn't work anymore.
The deleting or disabling of the OldFilm.AEX file has seemed to be the solution for the No Disc error specific
to Premiere Elements 13. So, I would ask, "What was the solution that you found for your Premiere Elements 12 No Disc?
Thank you.

GPO "don't run specified windows applications" doesn't work to in win 8.1. any ideas why? it is enabled and list of progs is entered however I can still run all progs on list. This is a local machine not on a domain. I must
have this work to disable games, IE, MSpaint, etc. Computer has been restarted since enabling the GPO and also have enforced the GPO via CMD prompt. worked fine on windows 8 and 7.Any success ?

IOP startup and shutdown as windows services
Hi,
Is there a way can we have IOP startup and shutdown as windows services instead of running the bat files?
Thanks,
Hari DevarapalliYes. You can install IOP as NT service and start/stop it.
Please refer to "Installing Integrated Operational Planning as an NT Service" in the IOP install guide. -
How to install MSP on selected computers via GPO Startup VBscript
Hi folks,
I'm trying to write a vbscript that will run on startup and do the following:
1) Detect whether or not a particular application is installed
2) Determine if the latest version of said application is installed
3) If not, run the MSP update from a server and apply the patch before login.
I'm on a domain, and the script works when manually run from a command prompt. I also have the script added to a test GPO under Computer Config>Windows Settings>Startup, but since this is my first real attempt at scripting, I'm not sure how to
determine why the *.MSP file isn't running and get this working.
Here's my code so far:
Const HKLM = &H80000002 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
strComputer = "."
strKey = "SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\"
strEntry1a = "DisplayName"
strEntry1b = "QuietDisplayName"
strEntry1c = "DisplayVersion"
strEntry1d = "UninstallString"
' Set args = Wscript.Arguments ' Get Command Line Argument
' strVersion = WScript.Arguments.Item(0)
Set objReg = GetObject("winmgmts://" & strComputer & "/root/default:StdRegProv")
objReg.EnumKey HKLM, strKey, arrSubkeys
intVersionNum="1.0"
For Each strSubkey In arrSubkeys
intRet1 = objReg.GetStringValue(HKLM, strKey & strSubkey, strEntry1a, strValue1)
if intRet1 <> "" Then
objReg.GetExpandedStringValue HKLM, strKey & strSubkey, strEntry1a, strValue1
intCompare=StrComp("Adobe Acrobat XI Pro",strValue1,vbTextCompare)
IF intCompare = 0 THEN
objReg.GetExpandedStringValue HKLM, strKey & strSubkey, strEntry1c, intVersionNum
END IF
End If
Next
IF intVersionNum="1.0" THEN
WScript.Quit 2 ' Not Found
END IF
intVersionCompare=StrComp("11.0.06",intVersionNum,vbTextCompare)
IF intVersionCompare = 0 THEN ' Everything OK
WScript.Quit 0
ELSE ' Run Update
Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject("WSCript.shell")
oShell.run "msiexec.exe /update \\RedactedServer\gpo\Acrobat\AcrobatXIPro\AcrobatUpd11006.msp /quiet"
WScript.Quit 1
END IF
Note: RedactedServer isn't a variable; I removed our servername. Also, I'm reasonably certain there isn't a permissions issue because we use the \\RedactedServer\GPO\ to successfully deliver all of our MSI GPO updates.
When I restart, it looks like the script starts to run(?), but the update isn't installed. In the Application log, all I see is this:
But, there's no follow-up entry indicating that it was successful or even completed.
Ideally, I'd also like to be able to pass in a command line parameter from the GPO so I can update it without having to edit the script every time a new update comes out, but I'd prefer to run before I fly.
Lastly, yes, the script is looking for Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. I'm aware I can slipstream the MSP into an AIP and push it that way, but I don't want to redeploy a 2.3 GB installation to each computer that needs an update every 3 months when this will
accomplish the goal much quicker and more efficiently.
Does anyone have ideas? I've beat my head against this all day, and my search-fu doesn't seem to be helping me find the answers I need.
Thanks,
RickMicrosoft note that Office 2013 cannot be installed by Software Distribution. The MSP you have is a patch file. The script is a cleaner.
I do not know what is waiting for what or what script you may be referring to.
If you think it is fixed then good but I do not really understand what you are saying has worked.

GPO Startup/Shutdown scripts not running
I am running server 2003 SBS with windows 8.1 Pro workstations.
My workstations run 1 start-up script and 2 shutdown scripts. All are BAT files.
They were all working fine last week before I ran the update for 8.1.1, now they do not run at the appropriate time on any of those systems. However, if I execute them manually they work as expected.
I have checked to see if the BAT files are still located in the GPO and they are there. They are stored locally on each machine, I have even tried to delete and re-add them and then run GPUPDATE to no avail.
Any help here would be great, as they deal with local encrypted containers and are specific to each workstation.Hi Sebastian,
Thanks for posting.
Whether the GPO with start-up/shutdown scripts are linked to the OU containing computers?
FYI - Logon/Logoff scripts could only be applied to users, whereas Start-up/Shutdown scripts applies to computers.

Hi there, as the question says, I cannot open any Mozilla product. I have tried to install firefox 3.6, older versions of Firefox, Firefox 4.0, Sea Monkey, Thunder Bird and Sun Bird. I have the same problem everytime. I open any of these programs and the first and the only window that appears is the crash reporter. I've tried opening it in Safe Mode and the same occurs. I have tried entirely uninstalling the products incuding the registry keys but no help. I shall post the detailed error reports, if they help solving this issue. Can you kindly look into this and find a solution as I use all of these Mozilla products and my life has been a hell since they've ben down.

GPO to disable hibernation on Windows 7 not working
We have set a power plan for Windows 7 with sleep and hibernate after set to "0."
This works to the extent that the machines stay running online all day and never sleep or hibernate automatically.
However, hibernation is not truly disabled because the hibernate file of several gigs remains and even if we run the command powercfg /h off, it deletes the file for a moment, but the file is recreated within seconds. We cannot remove the file permanently.
The shutdown menu still shows the sleep and hibernation options even though the machines never hibernate based on a time limit.
How can we disable hibernate in a way so the hiberfil.sys file goes away permanently and the workstation cannot hibernate at all?
Everywhere I find in a web search says run the command powercfg -h off or powercfg,.exe /h off and that is not the solution for is because the hibernation file comes right back. That command is not a permanent solution.Hi,
As far as I know, some service or program can turn hibernation back on even if we disable it by deleting the hiberfil.sys file.
To find out what causes hibernation back on, we can do a clean boot. The following steps are from an answer to the identical question and can be referred to for reference.
To find out what causes hibernation back on:
1. Start msconfig.exe
2. On the general tab select "Selective startup" and uncheck "Load startup items".
3. On the services tab unselect all first.
4. Run the command "powercfg -h off" to turn off hibernation.
5. Reboot
6. If hibernation is still deactivated start msconfig.exe again and activate half of the services.
7. Repeat 5 and 6 until you find the service causing hibernation to be turned back on (don't forget to do step 4 if it is activated again).
Regarding this point, the following threads can be referred to for more information.

Autologin on Windows Server 2008 R2 - local Administrator problem
I needed an user to autologin on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server.
Configured it following this guide: http://www.danj.co.uk/2011/06/enable-autologon-for-windows-2008-r2.html
In addition I added the login information by using the Autologon tool from sysinternals: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963905.aspx
Now the user I configured autologins successfully. The only downside is that now you can login with the local Administrator account by just hitting enter, as it now doesn't check the password and instead has a blank one. I think this comes from the User
accounts screen where I unticked the checkbox and also the Administrator account is listed. When trying to remove the local Administrator it tells me that it will delete the account. I don't want that.
How do I keep autologin of the user I configured but also have the local Administrator account check his password?Hello,
please see

JRE 1.5.0_11 Startup Error with MS Windows Vista. Please help!
Hi there, I am hoping that someone can help me with this very confusing problem. A friend of mine made a program for me last month using java. It works brilliantly on computers running MS Windows 2000 and XP but as soon as I installed it on one running Vista I get this error:
Startup Error
An error has occured during startup:

All the computers, regardless of operating system, are running the same version of JRE.
I would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me as this problem needs to be resolved as a matter of urgency and my friend who made the software has gone on holiday and I cannot get hold of him at the moment. Also, I apologise in advance if this is the wrong section to post this problem.
Thanks!Seems to be a problem with exe4j. Ask your friend to deploy a platform independent version of his program as well.

Autologin in Windows 7 using ZCM
Hello,
I have a problem concerning the possibility, if ever exists, to make an autologin under a PC Windows 7 using ZCM 10, DLU activated.
I didn't find the similar as it was in Windows XP and the autologin options added in the registry.
In Windows XP :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login]
"AutoAdminLogon"="1"
"DefaultLocationProfile"="Default"
"DefaultPassword"="firm"
"DefaultUserName"="UserX"
Does anyone could give me some informations how to resolve it with Windows 7 ?

Startup Disk not recognizing Windows disk
I had a working Snow Leopard installation with Windows XP on a separate disk. Bootcamp worked correctly. I reinstalled Snow Leopard on the primary disk and now Startup Disk will not recognize the Windows disk, although holding down Option at startup recognizes both disks and using Startup Disk on Windows recognizes the OSX partition.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
BTW, I do not have any NTFS software running on under OSX.
Thanks,
MitchI'm having the same issue except with Windows 7. Mac OS X refuses to see my NTFS partition.

EP6.0 SP2 startup/shutdown scripts for Windows/MMC
Does anyone have scripts to automate the starting/stopping of EP6.0? I'm using the Startup Framework to start/stop EP6.0 manually but need an automated process to use for scheduled backups. There is a document called "Startup and Shutdown of Enterprise Portal 6.0 SP2" that specifies the command "shutdown -h localhost:<p4 port>" which shuts down the portal but the processes automatically restart. I've tried using jcontrol in a batch file to start the portal but the red-yellow-green status in MMC does not reflect the status of the portal when it's started outside MMC. Any feedback would be welcome.
Kind regards,
Rex L. FarrisHi Rex,
please have a look at the note 748713: Central note - Usage of startup framework with EP 60 SP2.
It states that unattendes shutdown is not supported in Windows Environment.
Anyway you can:
- follow the hint suggested in the note to manage start / stop of the portal;
- use startsap / stopsap commands with this syntax:
stopsap name=<instance> nr=<nr> SAPDIAHOST=<hostname>
Hope this can help,
Regards,
Alessandro.
