Is it true? Is my LaCie dead?

Fine time for a LaCie external 500GB (2 FW 800, 1 FW 400, 1 USB 2.0) ports to be potentially dead. I am thankful we've gotten so much use of it, so please don't tell me so. I have two externals (LaCie 500GB, and a LaCie 1 TB) mounted to the desktop.
Here's the deal:
Exporting an 83 minute project from Final Cut Pro to Compressor as an MP2/AIFF 2pass 90 minute High Quality Encode.
I left to work, and came back to see that FCP had stopped responding in the middle of the export.
I shut down, because I've had overheating problems in the past. My Mac rested for a couple hours, and I rebooted. I started another export, this time (because we're in a time crunch for our Tribeca deadline TODAY!!!!) as a single pass VBR MP2/AIFF compression. Everything was fine, and about 23% into the video compression (compressor starts with audio) FCP failed again (not responding). So I Force Quit, thinking maybe the FCP project files were corrupt. I copied the file, renamed it, and copied it to my desktop. Now the file won't even reopen. Final Cut will open cleanly when I just open the icon on my dock, so it's a booting issue, right? Something with a corrup file or the (eek) Hard Drive.
I've tried everything. I shut down, restarted, switched off my power supply for an hour, unplugged my FW jacks, switched FW cables, ran updates, permission repairs, and then rebooted.
So then, I switched the LaCie 500GB to USB from FW 400. All of a sudden it started making strange repeated clicking sounds like it's trying to fire the spin up. (the same clicking sound it makes when your computer powers off, and the drives power off). But the drive refuses to mount upon restart.
After running a security update, I rebooted again. This time, I got a warning message I've never seen "Unable to recognize external hardware" and I clicked on the option to initialize. Now it won't mount to the desktop at all, (and Disk Utility recognizes it as "External LaCie SA" w/ 0KB). It's still plugged in, and every three minutes it tries to spin up, but only makes those clicking sounds (three in a row).
I just need to confirm if it is, in fact dead, and what to do from here, seeing as we've been working on a tight budget and haven't backed up our drives and we have two festival submission deadlines TODAY. I keep telling myself everything happens for a reason. Otherwise, there's only dismay.

Clicking sounds ... probably dead meat.
To prevent this, you may want to try hardware RAID 1 to protect your data. (if you think it is important to you), you will lose half of capacity, but in return you always have a backup (real time).

Workflow Export 5.1 Audio to WAV

Hi,
I want to improve my audio workflow in Premiere CS6.
My Task:
I have to master feature length movies in premiere and have to export the final 5.1 audio:
1. as 5.1 48KHz 24Bit RF64 multi channel broadcast WAV
2. as set of discrete audio channels L R C Lfe Ls Rs
What doesn't works for me:
1. Export multichannel WAV: because the multichannel file would be larger 4GB Premiere just gives an error on export.
2. Send to Audition: because the multichannel file would be larger 4GB Premiere just gives an error on export.
3. Export Quicktime - audio only: this always results in corruped files with random audio peaks. (looks like a memory leak in the export)
My Workaround:
1. Export 5.1 audio to AVI - audio only - uncompressed 5.1 48KHz 24Bit
2. Import the exported AVI into Audition
4. Resample from 32bit float back to 24bit integer
3. Save as 48KHz 24Bit RF64 multi channel broadcast WAV
4. Split channels to mono files
5. Save all 6 mono channels
My question:
Is there a way to export the audio WAV directly from Premiere?

I do not believe that PrPro can Export to Multi-channel (above 2-channel) WAV.
The only two choices that I know of are:
Export to DD 5.1 SS AC3 w/ Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (optional purchase)
Per your workaround, Export as a muli-channel WMA, then break out each channel to a discrete mono file. This is what I do, to later Encode to DTS with the SurCode DTS Encoder (stand-alone, not plug-in)
Maybe others will have other ideas for you.

Can't export more than 369 photos

For reasons that baffle me (but probably to do with my trying to tinker with my library) I have some 21,000 photos in my library of which only about 3000 or so are originals - the rest are duplicates of one sort or another or (grrr) faces.
The only way I can think of dealing with this is to export all the photos and delete all the dulicates (and faces. Grrr) manually. But iPhoto won't export more than 369 files at once - I then get the message "unable to create /Users/username/Desktop/photo_folder" (this of course being the name of the folder I've created into which to export the photos.
I'm baffled. It makes no difference where I pace the folder, what it's called, which photos I try to export (I thought perhaps there was a corruped file in there), but nothing. It will not export more than 369 files at once. Clearly I can not export 21,000 files in batches of 369.
Suggestions?

For dealing with duplicates in iPhoto check out Duplicate Annihilator. As to the Faces pics? Put them in the trash and empty it.
Alternatives: Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
That message usually suggests an issue with your Library database.

Lion won't mount Time Machine backup, but...

My Time Machine back up to an external drive seemed to have failed. It won't mount on Lion long enough to fix the problem. Other times it just locks up.
I dual boot with Vista and it sees the drive and all the files just fine. Any idea of what I can do to mount it on Lion. I'm tempted to just format it in Vista. Mount it in Lion, if it does at all, then format again for OS X. See if just a corrup files and not a failing hard drive.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ipad Other showing 30.2gig used. What can that be?

My iPad 3 64G is showing 30.2GB used in Other.
Any idea what could cause that and do I need to restore?

It could be a corrupt sync or corrup files causing this, and it may just be a miscalculation of the associated app data on your iPad.
Read this discussion for suggestions taking both approaches - the miscalculation of the storage - or the fact that there is an issue that calls for restoring.

Lion Install locks all Time Machine Bundles

I don't know if anyone else has run into this, but while my wife's new Macbook Air was importing documents and applications from her old sparsebundle on our Time Capsule, the Lion Installer kept EVERY other sparsebundle on the time capsule locked. 2 hours later, when the Macbook Air install completed, our other computers had access to their backups again. Although, having lost access, they all re-verified them (more time lost)

Ipod classic won't sync, lost music DESEPERATE!!!

Downloading new music that i had just bought from the Itunes store, my Ipod classic (30 gb) forze up and now it won't sync any music file. At first it stated a 48 error, then something about artwork error and now it posted that
there's a corrup file and should run Chkdsk utility (which I have no idea what it is), and lost all the music I had in the Ipod but didn't lose any photos. This happened in both machines I work on. What can I do about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mozila crashed suddenly and now it won't start. it shows white screen only. It won't let me reinstal it, sys shows that every .exe file is corruped.

I was listeninig songs on youtube and mozila and whole sys just crushed. I recovered sys but after that mozila won't work. It lifts up just mozila frame and it just won't work. It won't let me reinstall it too. I downloaded about 10 instalations and for every it gaves me notification that file is corruped.
I didnt uninstal it for not to lose all the bukmarks.

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.

Through a transfer cable I brought a swf into a Nokia 5300 to
test it. While other files I created opened and ran nicely, one of
them opened showing a frame or two and then presented me with the
dialog, "File Corrupted". The file runs fine on my computer and is
clean of "enhanced strokes." Any suggestions as to how I can fix
this problem so that I can get the file to run on my 5300?

my nokia 5800xpressmusic which shows installation failed or file corrupted on installing any sis/sisx apps which i was able to install it before. Once my phone got stuck and then i tried *#7370# and after when i tried to install any app or download from store the mesage appears as file corupted or instalation failed. Please help me.,

Re-install the Firmware using the Nokia Suite and see if it gets resolved.

Error 1335. The cabinet file "itunes.cab' is corrupt......

I was having the same problem that a lot of people are having after upgrading to 6.0 or whatever the new version is. iTunes would not open. It hope sof alleviting the problem, i unistalled itunes and quicktime and downloaded a new copy. Now I get the error message:
Error 1335. The cabinet files 'iTunes.cab' required for this installation is corrup and cannot be used. This could indicate network error, and error reading from the CD-Rom of a problem with this package.
No matter how i try to instal it, i get this message. I have chosen run and i also have downloaded to my machine and did it. Any ideas? iTunes worked find until this upgrade.

How to get rid of corruped app update taking up space.

This morning I went on iTunes and saw that there was an update to Dead space HD for the ipad and downloaded it. I then went and synced my ipad as usual to have the update installed. The syncing process got to about 90% and then iTunes came up with a box stating that the ipad was full and the app couldnt be installed. Now my free space has gone from over 900mb to just 80mb and the other category went from a few hundred mb to 1.5gb. I restarted the ipad to see if that would fix the issue and it didnt. I then told itunes to restore the ipad from the last backup but that didnt get rid of the other category and I still have the corruped dead space app in my memory. Now I dont know what to do here. I could completely erase my ipad and put all of my apps, songs and, video files on again like when I bought the ipad, but then I would loose all of my current app data. I simply cant do that as the data on some of my apps is very important or would take months to play again like with some games I have. I also cant just leave the device as it is as I really cant get by with just 80mb. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks!

I uninstalled the app and now have 800mb free but the other category has not changed in size at all. Before today I had 900mb free with the dead space app installed so that didnt work. Any other ideads?
