Corrupt dmg upgrading Lion 10.7.4

I have two notebooks with same problem: everytime I run OS X upgrade dmg is corrupted in Both an 2009 MBP and a 2011 MBA 11". Somwhere I have read about MTU size but I have tried that with no result.

Keep downloading until you get an uncorrupted copy. Alternatively, complain about this nonsensical failure to provide uncorrupted versions at http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact.html?form=account

  • HDMI Video corruption under Mountain Lion

I have a mid 2011 15 inch Macbook pro.  Upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I use an HDMI TV connection as an external monitor with the laptop closed.  I switch to another work PC on the TV using the source selection.  This causes the Mac to Sleep because no external monitor is detected.  When returning to the mac and waking it up via a blue tooth track pad, the video is corrupted.   It's just scrambled.
Unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in, doesn't help.
Unplugging the monitor, opening the mac, then plugging in the cable fixes it.  I use a mini display port to HDMI connector.
This worked fine with no corruption under Lion - but it is easily reproducable with corruption under Mountain Lion.
    Any advice?

Opening and closing the lid corrects the problem by causing the external monitor to refresh.
It doesn't have to be disconnected and reconnected.
The problem still occurs after the 10.8.1 update.

  • My iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2.  I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each one upon reinstalling the backup copy? Thank you for help

Almost my iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2. (the last 2.5 weeks worth of added music has transferred post-upgrade, none of whcih was bought from iTunes)
I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each playlist upon reinstalling the backup copy? This would save a HUGE amount of time and efforts. Thank you for your help!

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!

  • I upgraded Lion recently to 10.7.3. Since that time I am having trouble with my wireless connection. All other devices are fine, but I keep losing the connection since the upgrade.

Recently I upgraded Lion to 10.7.3. Since that time I have been having a lot of trouble with my internet connection. I keep losing the connect and have to go to diagnostics and turn it back on. Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks, Pat

I'm afraid there are numerous threads on here discussing this problem. I posted in this one earlier that has a couple of suggestions, but the real solution will hopefully be provided in an update from Apple:

  • I can't upgrade Lion but I have Intel Core 2Duo

I can't upgrade Lion and I have Intel Core 2Duo, but not Core i3

There are various 3rd party shops that will sell upgrade kits and instructions. It depends on how courageous you are with a soldering iron (the cpu is soldered to the motherboard).
There are also some hacks which will trick your Mac into thinking you have a Core 2 Duo so you can upgrade. I don't know how fast it will run if you do that. But I used a trick like that with my old MacBook to upgrade once when I wanted to upgrade and my actual specs didn't allow it and it worked fine.
I think trying that would be easier than upgrading the actual cpu.

  • Ever since I upgraded Lion, my iMac does recognize my Garmin devices or mount dmg files from Garmin. What could be wrong?

I get the error that no mountable file system exists. All other dmg files open. My MacBook Air works fine with the Garmins and Garmin files.

And, occasionally it will boot into open firmware.
Seems odd to me. All by itself? Did you press any keys?
I don't know what to do from here. I can still boot into os 8.6 with extensions off.
Most likely, you have a bad extension. They are in a folder called extensions What you need to do is create a new folder and move extensions to this folder. Move extensions to the folder in groups. try 1/2 first. Move back & forth between folders. See which extension is causing the problem. command + n to create a new folder
verify that you have the correct firmware.
Figuring out what level of firmware you have?
    1) Mac OS 9.x or 8.x, you need to use the Apple System Profiler.
    Apple -> Apple System Profiler
    2) Mac OS X, use the System Profiler.
    Apple -> About This Mac
click on the More Info... tab
    click on Hardware
    read the Boot ROM Version
    3) Open Firmware, boot into Open Firmware.
Power on your iMac while holding down commandoption+of
The first output line contains the firmware level. Mine reads:
    Apple PowerMac4,1 4.1.9f1 BootRom built on 09/14/01 at 13.18.04
    Copyright 1994-2001 Apple Computer Inc.
The 4.1.9f1 will be different on a 333 machine.
    What firmware do you need?

  • 'corrupt' dmg images

A few years ago I backed up all my CDs under OS 9. I can't remember which program I used, but they resulted in 'img' files. These images worked fine under OS 9, and until recently they worked fine in Tiger. All of a sudden, I've found that most of them are 'corrupt'. At least that's what Disk Utility tells me when I use that program to mount them.
Not so much of a problem I thought - I'll just create fresh .dmg files using the original CDs. I'd read that .img files are notorious for getting corrupted in certain situations, especially under OS X.
The problem is that when I try creating .dmg images using the original CDs, the process either fails right away, or once the image is created, I'll get the same error about the image being damaged.
The CDs are all in perfect shape and not scratched. They work fine in OS 9 on my old G4. I seriously doubt that all 25 of the CDs I'm trying to backup are damaged.
So why does Tiger think that my original CDs, or the images created from them are corrupt, even when saved in .dmg format??
I know this is long winded, but I need to make one last point - when I scan the original OS 9 CDs in Disk Utility, I am told that they are all damaged to some extent. When I scan them in OS 9 they are fine. Would Tiger think OS 9 CDs are damaged when they are in fact OK?
Unfortunately the problem is not limited to Disk Utility. I am getting the exact same behavior when creating images using the freeware program FreeDMG.
    iMac (1.8GHz PowerPC G5)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I did upgrade to 10.4.9 recently, and the problem only occured after that. Repairing read/write enabled volumes is something I will try.
The underlying issue for me is that I still do not think that any of my MacOS 9 CDs are actually corrupt. I think there is something in 10.4.9 that is interpreted as corruption, but does not prevent their use in MacOS 9 or previous versions of Tiger.
Of course, I can't prove that. All I have to go on is that they work OK on my G4 and my brother's Mac running Panther.
Downgrading back to 10.4.8 to test this would be too much trouble I think.

  • Corrupt dmg files

I'm having an issue that seems to come up before with others. Every DMG file I have tried downloading is corrupt and is giving me invalid checksum etc..
This isn't limited to one specific machine as I have an iMac and 2 macbooks all try and make the same download on the same network and all 3 are getting the same issues. i've rebooted the modem / router and nothing!
This is really frustrating as I can't get photoshop to work without installing java and even that 60meg download is getting corrupt.
Routerwise i have a netgear WGR614v9 (seems like a piece of crap) and can't get the firmware to update.
This is really frustrating as i need to work from home but can't even install the software i need to use.
    Anyone figure out anything?

Add me to the list.  Running Mountain Lion on my MBP and Lion on my Mac Mini. The MBP is connecting to the Internet via wireless and the mac mini is wired. Tried rebooting the cable modem and switch to see if that made a difference but it didn't. I cannot understand why unless there's been an update to lion which prevents dmg files from opening a.k.a. The bzip issue that affected osx 10.3 and earlier.
All other file types are fine, it just seems to be affecting dmg files. Also, if it was corruption over the wire then surely web sites wouldn't load properly.
    Confused!

  • After upgrading Lion to 10.7.2 cannot open iCal

    Hi,
Yesterday I did the upgrade to Lion 10.7.2 to my MacBook Air 2011, incorporating iCloud services. At the same time, i upgraded my iPhone 4 to the iOS 5. This morning when i openned the iCal I got a message saying that "Calendar Cache" could not be moved becuase I had "No permissions". It suggested me to go to the Finder and change the permissions, which I tried to do, but the problem is still there. After releasing the error message the application just quits.
I currently use the MS Exchange server for the email and calendar services, through the Mail and iCal apps, and these have been working smoothly until this morning. By the way, i tried opening the Address book and it worked fine.
If anyone has encountered the same problem, please help me find a solution.
    Thanks and regards!!

Sorry that I did not mention that the problem with iCal is happening in my MacBook air, not in the iPhone.
    Regards.

  • Anyone know how to repair a corrupted .DMG file? I recovered the file using Disk Drill. There are actually 4-6 files I have encrypted into a DMG - now they are back on my desktop (deleted them months ago) and the size is correct (between 500-900 MB each)

I deleted several .mov files a while back that were encrypted into a .dmg file. Using Disk Drill, I was able to recover 5 of these files, roughly 500-900 MB each and successfully moved them to my desktop. When I try to open the .dmg file, the dreaded error message "no mountable file systems" shows up. I have tried various fixes based on searches and none have worked. Are these files just corrupted and unreadable, or is there a way to fix?

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.

  • BW FICA extract structures corrupted after upgrade from 4.6C to ECC6

Hi All. After the upgrade an include (FKKBWP) in the extract structure FKKOPBW_BASIC contained  a field belonging to the APPEND structure ZAFKKOPBW_BASIC (originating from enhancing the configured structure). Also ZAFKKOPBW_BASIC is not visible in FKKOPBW_BASIC anymore, although when checking/activating the structure it complains about duplicate fields, which can only happen if ZAFKKOPBW_BASIC is still referenced. Furthermore, some new includes have also appeared in the extract, amongst others FKKOPBW_EVOLVED.
I have not been able to find any documentation regarding this. Two different systems were upgraded and the structures were corrupted in both systems in the same way, so this is not a fluke.
The application dumps when one tries to access it via SBIW->Settings for Application-Specific DataSources->Contract accounts receivable->Define Fields for the Extraction of Open Items, because the config and structures do not match.
All of this also applies to the Cleared Items as well.
Has anybody encountered this or can somebody point me to some documentation referering to this problem?
    Regards,
    Johan Loock

  • Re-installing Snow Leopard onto an upgraded Lion Macbook Pro

I have made the decision to re-install Snow Leopard after upgrading Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro to Lion the day it came out. I've just had too many issues with Lion since I upgraded and can't seem to get them fixed! Apps not working (i.e. Microsoft Oultook 2011 failing, Time Machine not working as per Snow Leopard, Circular timer on for up to 20 minutes before I can use the machine, etc)
Therefore I wondered if someone could give me the best way to re-install please? How do I format the hard drive completely and re-install? Also I have a Snow Leopard upgrade DVD and wanted to double check I could re-install the full OS with this? I think from looking at other forum entries that this disc does have the full install, but obviously don't want to blow everything away only to find that this DVD doesn't work!
    cheers

See Kappy's going back to SL from Lion guide.

  • Will iTunes 10.4 upgrade (Lion 64 bit ver) Not Work With External Drives Any More?

Since i upgraded my MacBook Pro to Lion today, itunes just cannot play anything without going in to to meltdown. Even short tracks stop and stutter, and movies and TV programs are a no go.
All I  get is the dreaded spinning beach ball.
My library is stored on a Firewire 800 external drive as my collection would take up more than my MacBook can hold, but running from an external drive has never been a problem before.
I know the library on the external drives okay, because I was streaming stuff over Airplay to my Apple TV2 half an hour before i did the upgrade, and it was working perfectly.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be or causing it, or how I can rectify it please?
    Thank you

Oh yes, I did that several times.
Actually, I think i have found the answer. I think what was happening was that since this was a new iTunes version (and perhaps its moving from 32-bit to 64-bit type program) that it had to re-index it or catalogue it, or something in that vein anyway. I left iTunes open for a couple of hours and the external disk still attached and it now appears to have settled down, and i can report that its now working just fine.
    Phew!
    Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

  • Novice upgrading Lion to Mountain Lion

I got my MacBook Pro in June, 2012 and it is certainly compatible. It came with Lion pre-installed. I now want to upgrade to Mountain Lion and I have some questions.  I've read many of the posts and I am thankful I did.  Those posts prompt some of my questions. (I apologize ahead of time if most of these questions appear like they come from a moron. I'm not that; just totally inexperienced with Mac's. This is my first one.)
I downloaded the Mountain Lion installer on September 27th but did not run it because I did not have an external drive to make a bootable backup of Lion as recommended. I now have an external drive. When I downloaded the Mountain Lion installer I was running Lion 10.7.4 and still am. In October, Lion 10.7.5 became available but I have not installed it.  Should I install 10.7.5 before I run the Mountain Lion installer? Is my Mountain Lion installer for 10.7.4 since that is what I was running when I downloaded it? If I update to 10.7.5 will I need to try and download the Mountain Lion installer again?

These errors do not appear on the list of Permission Errors you can ignore (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448). Should I repair these permissions before I make my backup or do the upgrade? They are not causing any problems currently and if I have to go back to Lion because the Mountain Lion upgrade fails, it doesn't seem like they will bother me then. Will they cause any problems with the upgrade?
The external drive is 1TB. It seems like I should set up several partitions before I put anything on it; one for the Lion bootable backup, one for a copy of the Mountain Lion installer (or will it be in the Lion backup?), one for a Mountain Lion bootable backup (which seems like it should be the first thing I do after the upgrade), one for Time Machine or other backups. Does all of this sound right?
Any preference between Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper? They both look simple enough even for me.
I don't have many programs installed and if they end up being incompatible, I won't mind trying to get them again. The exception is Microsoft Office that I bought and installed when I got th Mac. Will I have any problems with it?
I thank you all for any guidance you can give me.

Should I install 10.7.5 before I run the Mountain Lion installer? Is my Mountain Lion installer for 10.7.4 since that is what I was running when I downloaded it? If I update to 10.7.5 will I need to try and download the Mountain Lion installer again?
No need. Just install over 10.7.4
In Disk Utility I get the following Permissions errors:
They have been repaired or do not need to be repaired even though it says it is repairing them when it is not.

A partition for the clone might be useful. Make sure it is big enough to hold the clone. If the installer is on the Clone, then it is fine leaving there.
After that, the drive really won't be big enough to split off again for bootable clone and Time Machine. You may consider just running with the bootable lion clone for a while, with the rest as Time Machine. When/if you decide you don't need the Lion Clone anymore, you could clone your ML to it.
I don't have any recomendation on the cloning programs.

Office 2008 and 2011 will run fine on Mountain Lion. Make sure it is fully updated. I can't imagine you got Office 2004 (which doesn't work) at the time you purchased your Mac.
The other concern is external peripherals like printers and scanners. Most have updates, but if you've been dragging around an old printer or scanner, some manufacturers abandon the older products.
