Corrupt Downloaded Midi Files

Hi gang,
I've been remixing a song and couldn't for the life of me figure out the bass line, so I downloaded a midi file from a professional company on the web, so that I could see the bassline myself. It's the first time i've downloaded and imported a midi file. In a seperate work session, I imorted it no problems, but when I play it, it is massively distorted. Even though I wasn't sure how a midi file could distort, I only really wanted to look at it. When I went back into my tune I was horrified to hear that it seems that the midi file triggered something in Logic - and now everything (including my song) is distorted.
Any Ideas? I'm not bothered about the download, but obviosly I want my song to sound like it did when I closed the session.
HELP
Hippers

This is a truly bizarre situation. I can't imagine how the MIDI file itself affected your Logic session as a whole. So here's my first-cup-of-coffee-of-the-day troubleshooting advice...
There is a chance that the MIDI file contained a program change which selected a distorted-sounding patch on whatever synth/instrument plug you're using. Furthermore, the file may contain a CC#7 (or 11) volume message that banged up the volume of whatever track you imported it on, raising the fader to a level much higher than you had previously set it to. And if both occur, it could give the impression that everything is distorted, but really the culprit is that one track.
What happens when you turn that track off? Is everything still distorted?
Re-load your original song -- one saved prior to having imported the MIDI file. Does it sound OK?
Then import the bass line to this song, but import it to a track that isn't assigned an instrument (in fact, assign the track to the "no output" item). Does it distort? If not, open the Event Editor and look at the very beginning of the list. If you see any volume or program change data, delete it. Now assign that track to an instrument and see what happens.

  • Empty midi files

I have the latest pro version of quicktime but just recently when I download .midi files quicktime sees then as movie files and wont open them. Further investigation into "get info" shows the files as being empty. Even my attempts to open them in garage band or cubase have a negative effect..can anyone help?

I "hid" my version 6 Player from the version 7 installer on my mini.
Version 6 Pro now runs "on top" of version 7 frameworks but keeps its old menus and features. It even inherits H.264 Video codec.
You really shouldn't attempt a version 6 install on your Tiger OS. Version 7 is required in it and nearly every app uses it.
Buy a cheap external and install 10.3.9 on it (one of my other methods). When I must have the "regular" 6 Pro I boot from that drive.
The only two features I like in version 7 is H.264 and the revamped Movie Properties window. Most of the rest is eye candy.

  • And here we go again with corrupt download files unable to expand

There seems to be a pattern with major updates from Apple and the ability of the servers providing the content - be it iTunes or iOS or Mac OS updates - I have been unale to download sucessfully the larger updates but smaller (22MB for AirPOrt Utility) work fine.
The annoying thing is that in almost all cases the erorr dosen't occur until AFTER the download is complete - meaning it takes up allt he time and bandwidth etc with no result and you have to start all over again.
This has happened to enoguh people and with enough different software releases that I posit that it is NOT the result of any partiucalr configuration of netwokring and or hardware and or firmware and or OS version etc - but that the it is a systemic issue on the provider side of things.
Perhaps they (Apple's content providers) should stagger access or something - by time zone - or Apple should release updates over the course of a week - not all on the same day.
I would much rather get a message that the server is busy try agian later - or have one update a day - and have it work on the first try - that to waste time retrying the same downloads over and over again.

While it is entirely possible taht some combination of DOCIS or firmware etc on the user end is a contirbuting facotr - it is not hard to find numerous reports of exactly what I am talking about along with other similar issues.
I don't recall having this issue before I upgraded to 50Mbps download service - so there could be a connection there. But the "solution" in my case so far has been to just simply keep trying and eventually it works just fine.
I suppose I may have forggotten as they are so few and far between - but in my recollection - the ONLY issues I have had have been with software from Apple - whether downloaded via software update - or the App store - or iTunes - and no where else - on both Mac and Windows (had Apple Software Update fail to get iTunes update a couple times on Windows, but windows is easy to goof up if you have other installers running at the same time).
On the other hand I don't recall too many cases in the past where the downloads were so large as they are nowadays - and certainly the number of users after those downloads has only increased over time.

  • Corrupted Download Files?

Hello, I'm currently using a DHCP setup with a Router and 3 AirPort cards. Recently, I decided to switch from a Linksys to a Netgear router, but since I did i've been noticing images occasionally being garbled up on web pages, or text showing up as gibberish. Whats more troubling is that when I go to download a .zip, .dmg or .tar file, they show up as corrupted. Some of them download just fine, but the ones that don't are corrupted despite the machine or router. I've tried clearing the cache for each browser that I test the downloads on, but that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried hooking up my older router and downloading the files using that, but I get the same results. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? For the record, the 3 computers on my network are a G4 Laptop, a G5 iMac and a G5 Quad Core PowerMac, all running 10.4.7. The most recent download that has given me this issue is StuffIt 10.2. Thanks in advance!

Sorry - should have mentioned what program I was using.
Using Safari - r-click and saving the target of links, one after the other. A download pane pops up with some of the files downloading, others queued.
I was downloading from my university course website - basically a bunch of lecture notes. Granted, it's not often you see pages with multiple pdfs.

  • Corrupted content error when trying to download .pdf file from one website.

Unable to download .pdf file from a website, but IE8 provided the download without hesitation.
Both v7 and v8 produced the same message:
    "Corrupted content error"
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected.
This may be a particular website problem, or it may be common to the particular industry segment and their protocols.
I have followed the help leads and examined the profile for Firefox as used in this instance. Nothing untoward seemed to pop out as a causal factor.

Reworked some of the javascript for our webserver and fixed the problem.

  • Downloaded exe file onto Dell PC ends up being corrupt

After several downloads we are giving up (well, almost). First, it takes a long time to download the file. Then, once downloaded it won't run because it gives us the "corrupt" message.

You really really do need to read the Windows 7 FAQ the Boot Camp 3.0 Installation and Setup guide for 10.6  and the Boot Camp 3.0 MacOS 10.6 FAQ  a couple of times to really get to know the whole picture.
"Boot Camp" is just a basic set of WINDOWS drivers to run Apple hardware. You install Window first, via BCAssistant to start it, then after it finish's the install and restarts into Windows then you insert the "whatever you made disk" with the Boot Camp drivers on it, it should then give you an installer window, just like on the Mac side, if you want to "Run" it or "Open as a file". (Run it)
The Apple Software Updater updates ALL the Apple files including BootCamp Assistant on the Mac, it updates the Boot Camp Assistant to look for the latest drivers to use when it gives you the option to download the files onto whatever you want to use to download onto.
BTAssistant to partition the drive, then it will boot off the Windows installer, there is no more Mac control, it's ALL Windows now, have Windows format it the way you want, then it will finish by restarting into Windows, then you install the drivers while booted in Windows.
You need a wired mouse AND keyboard just like the instructions said. If you have the earlier Magic Mouse then they suggest you plug it into the keyboard instead of the computer.
If you partitioned like the instructions said, via Boot Camp Assistant, you can install Windows anytime you want, it won't forget it's there. YOU just have to remember where it is.
If you do have problems with the partition then at the bottom of the instructions it tells you how to restore the partition back to normal then you can start over.

  • Safari and downloading standard MIDI files

Downloading a standard MIDI file by the CONTROL>download method results in file that my MIDI sequencer cannot/doesn't open. Using another browser gives me a file that DOES open in my sequencer. Why can't I use Safari to download a standard MIDI file properly? It seems that the file type is changed in some way. Thanks for any and all coaching.

Select one of them, "Get Info" about it and select
the app you want to use to open your MIDI files (i.e.
QuickTime, GB etc.) and click on the button "Change
    All".
    cheers

I don't get the chance to choose any of the files I have on the disc because once I insert the disc the ibook says that the disc, (and any other one I insert with SMF) is unreadable.

    Hi Melbus_SE,
Are you downloading files from your Acrobat.com cloud storage? If so, what browser are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Has something changed on your system since you were able to download/open PDF files successfully? What version of Acrobat or Reader are you using to open these files?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but your answers will help us get to the bottom of this issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,

    Sorry did I mention that
Opera on windows crashes when trying to download these files.
Ie 6, just writes the files but the download obvioulsy errors out as the files are too small.
Netscape actually raises and error message when the download stops.
In any case there is no ftp access so that won't work and because of the stupid agree with the licence agreement when you try to reference the files directly you can't simply issue a command like wget -c oracle_cpiofile.gz.
