Corrupt Dreamweaver CS3 files

I've been working on a websites, my second one, for over a
month now and I've really enjoyed getting to know Dreamweaver CS3.
Unfortunately, the inevitable happened last night.
I returned to my computer (Macbook Pro OSX 10.4.11) and
opened my html and CSS files and both were corrupt. All the code
was gone and some sort of jibberish was in it's place. This is the
second time this has happened and I have not installed any
extensions.
There was no error message when I opened the file and I can
only guess what the problem might be. I recently moved the files
from my local folder to my desktop because I wasn't ready to
publish yet. Dreamweaver, or my Mac, was also having trouble
recognizing Jpeg files.
I'm pretty disappointed but really don't know what to do.
I've considered two resolutions, neither of which is very
appealing. First, I could reinstall Dreamweaver and make sure all
files are placed properly in the root folder, or second, I could
reinstall the entire OS and all CS3 apps.
I know recovering the files is not likely, and I have earlier
versions saved, but more importantly, I want to make sure
Dreamweaver works properly in the future so I can avoid having to
redo weeks of work. If anyone has advice or has experienced
something similar, I would sincerely appreciate your input.
Many thanks.
Doug

Thanks much for the reply.
This isn't a live site so no FTP or remote server was
involved. I wonder if moving the files to my desktop caused the
problem? All files for the site were originally set up in the
shared folder for publishing from the mac but they were always
local. I moved them to the desktop to rebuild and test a rollover
nav issue which I was able to resolve (a big step forward)
But now, all files are corrupt.
I'm seriously considering reinstalling the entire OS and
apps. Backing up all my design files and the resources saved to
bridge would be a pain, for sure, but the main goal is to have a
stable environment for development moving forward as I'll be taking
courses to incorporate mySQL and PHP this fall.
This did happen one other time, so maybe it's an installation
issue. I wish I could provide more info but I'm stumped.
Disappointing...

    dreamweaver cs3 files panel I can only see manage sites
    How do I go back to the defaut view

    What you see IS the default view. The "manage sites" link opens the site manager, as does Sites>Manage Sites from the menu bar.
    You can always go to Window>Workspace Layout>Resetxxx and reset your workspace. But the Files panel will be the same because it is set to the default ciew.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 - File Management/Put File at a later time

    I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and I have an internal website for my office.  I have a link that takes my users to a development site for the time being.  On Sunday, I wish to have that link take them to a production site that will be used rather than the practice/developmental site.  What I wish to do is to make the change on my local machine and have it set on some sort of timer so that once it reaches Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. for example, Dreamweaver will put up that page to my server without me having to come to work just to put that page up live.  Is there a way I can do that?

  • Corrupted Dreamweaver 8 Files

    Hello,
    I recently discovered that my Dreamweaver files are corrupted for some reason. I have even performed a format and reinstall of Windows XP Pro to see if that would solve the issue, which it did not.
    Pages that never had a problem are now showing a yellow highlighted <head> tag in the Design mode. The <div> and </div> tags are showing as being invlaid  in Code mode, which is causing the page design not to be in the proper position (the <div> has CSS positions).
    The kicker is that the web pages view fine when uploaded to the site. Also, the backup files I have from 4 weeks ago have no problems when opened. I would just swap the backup files for the current files, but I have made several updates to the site.
    Any suggestions as to why this is occurring? Please let me know if more information is needed.

    Although academically interesting, your PDF doesn't help much, although I can tell for certain that that particular page is not the child page of a template.
    Are these pages all child pages of a template file?
           I can not acurately say since I did not create the site. I believe they are not child pages of a template.
      2.  Are these pages only in a single site, or multiple sites?
           Single site
      3. Can you post a link to one of the pages that you have uploaded that still displays well?
          The pages are fine when uploaded, however in DW they display incorrect and also show code error.
    I want to see the live page and its code - please post the link to one of the "corrupted" pages.

  • Dreamweaver CS3, file window (panel group) came unattached?

    This may be a minor problem, but it's very annoying to me
    since I'm accustomed to using a particular layout. Anyway, after
    rebooting my computer and starting Dreamweaver, i noticed my files
    window (panel group) was not on the screen, whereas it's usually on
    the right-hand side and attached beside the code/design view. So I
    went up to the the Window menu and put a check by "Files" and it
    opened my file window up, but it's not attached like it was before!
    instead it just floats over my code/design view, and I don't like
    that.
    I've looked and looked some more but I can't figure out how
    to re-attach it. Can someone here help me? Any assistance is
    greatly appreciated!
    edited to add - i've tried simply dragging and "redocking"
    the panel as shown in the help, but it won't redock or stick
    anywhere.

    Apologies, I figured out how to fix it. I'm not sure why it
    happened to begin with, but anyway... problem solved for now. I was
    able to redock it after getting rid of the css panel and just
    having the files panel open, unexpanded, then moving it until I saw
    the black outline.

  • Uninstall downloaded version of Dreamweaver CS3

    I purchased Dreamweaver CS4, downloaded and installed it. Now
    I'd like to get rid of the Dreamweaver CS3 files. Trying to
    uninstall via Windows control panel does not work since it requires
    the original installation disks. I'd like to recover the 209 MB on
    my disk. What should I do? Just delete the files in the Program
    file directory? I am worried I'd delete some shared
    components.

    That's really odd that it requires the disk to uninstall.
    There is a CS3 clean tool, and it wipes all instances of the Adobe
    software clean. I'm not sure if it will affect your CS4
    installation. To be on the safe side, deactivate CS4 before
    proceeding in case it affects CS4 and needs to be reinstalled.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 quits when opening some .aspx files

    Dreamweaver CS3 has begun suddenly quitting when opening some .aspx files - not all, just some.  Other .aspx files open just fine.  In most cases these files are virtually identical in every way from one to the next and still, one will open and the other will cause DW to crash.  This problem just started about a week ago.
    I have been running DWCS3 on the same Vista Ultimate machine for over 2 years now with Service Pack2 installed.  Apart from these few .aspx files, the program is running as it always has... perfectly.  Nothing has changed on the machine, nothing new is installed, and, as far as I know, no Windows updates have come through from MS.
    I have tried bringing the files down from the remote server to see if my local copies were somehow corrupt but... same thing.
    Any thoughts?

    I am trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on my new Windows 8 PC and when I run SETUP.EXE it says "The Installer Database is corrupt" on both my original CD and backup I made.

    The error is here:
    Dreamweaver CS3 on my new Windows 8 PC
    This will most likely never work. CS3 wasn't even fit for Win 7. Delete the caps.db in the respective caps folder (info here) and then take the usual steps of running as admin, turning off UAC and security tools and possibly using compatibility modes, but as I said, be prepared that this may be futile and you spend a Sunday afternoon without achieving anything...

  • How to stop Leopard corrupting CS2/CS3 Photoshop files?

    Ever since upgrading to Leopard 10.5.3 (including updates since then)--the DAY AFTER I installed 10.5.3--I have had intermittent corruption of Photoshop files (.psd, .tif, .jpeg). The only constant from the dozens of times this has happened is that it happens when I am saving in Photoshop; Photoshop freezes up, won't shut down; I have to manually reboot; and then the file I was saving AND files that had been saved in the last several hours (and were okay) have been corrupted into Mexican rugs. I repeat, files that were saved and opened and previously found to be okay ARE THEN RETROACTIVELY CORRUPTED along with the file I'm currently trying to save. Also, when Photoshop froze, before shutting down, I've tried opening recent files with Preview and they look okay, and I take captures of the images before I shut down, and after reboot these are corrupted as well. This has been going on for six months, unpredictably. It has happened with lots of things running (iTunes, DVD player, podcasts) and little running; with a full desktop and a clean desktop; saving to desktop, Lacie drives, and different internal drives on my G5. Apple Store says nothing wrong with my machine, I've wiped my drive and run Disk Warrior--no problems. The only constant is that I never had this problem prior to Leopard 10.5.3 and have had it ever since the day after I did that upgrade, and subsequent upgrades. It started with CS2, so I upgraded to CS3. It still happens, however unpredictably. I also noted tonight when it froze that after reboot, I couldn't use Spotlight for ten minutes because the OS was "indexing". Error messages include "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered", "Could not complete your request because the file is not a TIFF file (it is)", "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the TIFF file", " Cannot open file because it was created with different version of Photoshop (not true)". No other file formats or files are corrupted, only Photoshop-created files.
    Please note that Apple’s release of 10.5.3 caused corruption of PS CS2 files when saved over networks, instigating upgrade 10.5.4 days later. I never had any problem like this with Panther or Tiger; indeed, I wish I’d never upgraded to Leopard due to the lost hours and income this corruption problem has created. But I did, and now I’m stuck. Any solutions out there?

    If you're seeing issues with files from multiple applications, I'd suspect corrupt sectors on your hard drive. Do you have an external/another drive you could install OS X and your applications on and see if the symptoms persist?
    Otherwise, here's another suggestion:
    If I was dealing with your issue, here's what I'd do.
    1) Backup my data--not a clone of the drive, since you're having issues.
    2) Erase the drive and reinstall OS X. Do not bring in any applications yet.
    3) Apply all OS updates.
    4) Reinstall one 3rd-party (non-Apple) software application. Test this for a few hours or a day and see if any issues pop up.
    5) If things are still error-free after a day, make a clone of the drive to an external. This way, if any changes you make cause problems, you can erase the internal and then restore your copy of the clone to the internal.
    6) Install another application, and repeat the steps.
    Best of luck to you!

  • How can I work on a .ihtml file in Dreamweaver CS3?

    Hello,
    Can someone tell me how I can make Dreamweaver CS3 treat a
    .ihtml (html based template) file like a standard .html or .htm
    file? I can open the ihtml file in DW, but can only work on it in
    Code View. Is there a way to make DW parse the file so I can work
    with it in Design View as well? I can rename the file and work with
    it, but that becomes a real pain. I've tried everything, but
    nothing seems to work. Help!

  • Dreamweaver CS3 no longer opens files

    Greetings,
    I am not sure where to post this, so I will post here - already have a question open on the Dreamweaver forums.
    I have run into an unusual problem. I can no longer open files either on my local machine or remote server without Dreamweaver CS3 freezing. I am using OS X Leopard - 10.5.2 on an Intel MacBook Pro. A week or so ago I was able to open my .asp files just fine. Now, Dreamweaver simply freezes when I try and open them - either locally or remotely. I tried deleted the preferences file and removing site information from Manage Sites with no luck. I can create and open new files, but cannot open the existing files.
    I copied the files in question to a PC and opened them just fine using Dreamweaver 8.02. I just don't know enough about the technical aspects to properly troubleshoot this problem. I already tried reinstalling also.
    By the way, I am able to access, open and edit my files from the remote server using my PC and version 8.02.
    Any ideas?

    It seems this is a known issue with Dreamweaver. I was able to access the files just fine by deselecting "display external links" in the view menu. Strange that I did not have to do this before.
    For anyone interested, here are some links about this: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=18 9&threadid=1262486&highlight_key=y&keyword1=design%20mode and http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401608&sliceId=1

  • URGENT: Dreamweaver CS3 crashes while uploading any PHP File

    Hello,
    My Dreamweaver CS3 crashes everytime I try to upload any PHP
    file to the Web Server. It does upload the file but crashes and you
    received a "Not Responding" error in the Windows title bar. I did
    search alot on this issue until I found the ".
    Dreamweaver
    CS3 crashes after DST ends" problem. I deleted the cache file
    as required but of NO HELP.
    . It is very annoying to restart Dreamweaver
    everytime you want to upload any PHP file to the Web Server after
    editing it. It doesn't happen with any other types of files. Please
    help me guys here or I will lose my mind.

    Bad news for you too.
    First, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.
    Secondly, Adobe does not support CS3 any longer because it hasn't been sold for years.
    Therefore, you're left to the good will of fellow users who volunteer their time here free of charge, if one of them has a solution to your issue.  No one is under any obligation to reply, so ask nicely.
    One thing I can tell you is that you have not applied any of the versions available for Photoshop.  Unfortunately, the Adobe auto updater was an unmitigated piece of cr@p in any version prior to CS6.  Do not rely on it to assume you are up to date just because it doesn't show any updates available to you under Help > Updates.
    You need to look for the downloads and apply them manually yourself.
    I can't offer any more assistance because I don't do Windows.  Sorry.

  • Resizing FLV files in Dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
    I am adding videos to my websites' "videos main page", and these extra videos are going to be added to the videos currently in the flash player. I have already copied the jpg preview picture files and the flv video files into my website directory. To contain the extra data, I have already added the appropriate number of <li>'s to the index.html file of the videos folder. For each new video I have also added an <img src="...."> line to the images.xml file. The images.xml file has information regarding the id, location etc..of every video in general. It is shown below.
    images.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gallery>
         <album id="videos" title="CBET Videos" description="CBET Video Gallery"
         lgPath="video_gallery/album1/videos/">
              <img src="2g_robotics.flv" id="2g_robotics" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/2g_robotics_preview.jpg" caption="2G Robotics"/>
              <img src="clearpath.flv" id="clearpath" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/clearpath_preview.jpg" caption="Clearpath"/>
              <img src="medshare.flv" id="medshare" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/medshare_preview.jpg" caption="Medshare"/>
              <img src="nalion.flv" id="nalion" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/nalion_preview.jpg" caption="Nalion"/>
              <img src="mbetcommercial.flv" id="mbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/mbet_commercial.jpg" caption="MBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="ocecbetcommercial.flv" id="ocecbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/oce_cbet_commercial.jpg" caption="OCE CBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="bostontrip08.flv" id="bostontrip08" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/boston_trip_08.jpg" caption="Boston Trip 2008"/>
         </album>
    </gallery>
    The only issue that I have, is that the videos themselves display in the player at a much smaller size, than the container size. I bet you could fit a three by three array of videos in my flash player. The first four img src lines are the videos that play at the correct size, and fill the flash player container, whereas the last three img src lines (the ones I added) are the videos that do not display at a correct size.
    Is there any way that I can resize the flv files so that they fill the container within the flash player in Dreamweaver CS3? I primarily assumed that one can simply change the pixel dimensions (width and height) properties of the flv file itself, but apparently this is an issue regarding formatting in Dreamweaver. Online I found that one can specify pixel dimensions in the images.xml file. Does anybody have any ideas? Its probably an easy thing.
    Thanks to everyone for coping with these details, and any help would be appreciated greatly.
    kind regards,
    Mr.V

    Hi
    There are a number of ways you may do this, the first would be to use the scale parameter for the flash player content, but the problem you will find is maintaining the aspect ratio and if your flv's are smaller the degradation in the quality when 'enlarging', see - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14149.html.
    The second way would be to use a combination of actionscript and javascript to proportionally 'enlarge' the flv, again the above problems apply.
    Finally you could change the size of the flash player to fit your 'new' flv using javascript, but this method would in all probability present layout problems for your user, a small change would be o/k, but the size of change you are talking about would not. The design would have to incorporate a fixed size div for the flash player, and resizing the player would leave a large amount of white space.
    It is possible to do this using a liquid layout, but again this would cause problems with page rendering.

  • SWF problem in Dreamweaver CS3 and strange Script file

    Hi folks, I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and tried to upload a
    SWF file today. The SWF includes three buttons, one for video,
    another for audio and one for text. Before loading up to DW all
    three parts played fine. But when I uploaded to DW and my site, the
    video fails to play. A Script file, and another file downloaded I
    am not sure what I am supposed to do with this script file. The
    script file is called The audio and text part works fine, but the
    video will not play. I am not sure why this is, but when I uploaded
    the file to Dreamweaver there was a Script file called
    AC_RunActiveContent.js that automatically downloaded along with a
    file called .htaccess
    The other file is called called .htaccess
    I uploaded both files to my server, but that did not help the
    video play. I tried pasting the AC_RunActiveContent.js code into my
    page and uploading, but that did not help the video play either; I
    just got code at the bottom of my page.
    I have viewed the page in Mozilla, IE7 and Flock, but still I
    cannot play the video.
    Does anyone have any idea how to make the video play in
    Dreamweaver; what I am supposed to do with these two code files?
    For those interested in the AC_RunActiveContent.js code, I
    will post below. Please try to explain simply because I am not so
    tech savvy.
    I thank you all.
