Corrupt Excel files in Windows 7

i use excel 2007 . most of excel files open ok . Some of them (.xls) , produced by some sql software, wont open in windows 7 . I tried everything , from compatibility modes , remove antivirus software , etc. the system says that file wont open and that is corrupted , trying to restore it nothing happens . Though in other windows versions these files works ok.

Hi,
What version of Excel were they using?
Have you tried opening it up in the latest version on Excel?
I had it in the past where says a 2003 file wouldn't open but opening it in 2007/2010/2013 it would repair it & open it ok.
Then I just saved the file to a new location.
Have you tried Open Office? might be worth a try just in case?

  • Corrupt Excel files

I am extracting a lot of datawith SSIS 2005 ...  DB to excel, every time i try to pull a certain date range the file is corrupt.  I have even tried to go file open / repair and just Extract the data but the file is still corrupt.  I have
pulled 50-60 files from the same database with out any problems and this file on extract does not throw any errors.  Any ideas to get this data, or what could be corrupting the file?  I am not receiving any errors on export

This is another example of improper use of Excel which is a desktop app, not a data interchange format.
I do not have any experiencing with recovering corrupt Excel files and an Excel forum could be a better place to ask.
But I suggest you try to reliably repro the issue and share with us how to corrupt then we will see how to help.
At this point in time I can only suggest you should use the IMEX=1 setting in the Excel conn string as it puts it into the Import data mode.

  • Opening excel file n window location

I have an application that tests three products at a time.  When a product is put on test, the user enters the serial number of the product, which pulls up the Excel datasheet for that product serial number.  The datasheet always comes up in the last saved location within the Excel window. I would like to control if this file appeared on the left side (where it currently is), center position, or right positon.  Please see the attached screen shot.  Is there a way I can force the datasheet to come up in a certain location in the window?
I am using New Report VI from the Report Generation VI Toolkit and have the window state set at normal.

There isn't currently a method for controlling the sub-window size/position for a file within Excel. It might be possible through ActiveX, but I'm not entirely sure.
That would, however, make an excellent product suggestion for the LabVIEW Idea Exchange.

  • Time Capsule Dual: Working with Excel files in Windows Computer

We just purchased the latest-gen Time Capsule to replace another earlier edition TC and we are having a strange problem. We have three iMacs and one PowerBook G4 connected wirelessly to the TC, along with two Windows XP machines which are wired in to the TC. The issue is that the two WinXP machines cannot view Excel files from the TC. When they try to open and work with an Excel file from the TC, they get a message that there is not enough memory to open, work with, or save any Excel files and it won't let them open the Excel file at all. If they copy the file from the TC to the local WinXP computer, they can open it and work on it just fine. At first I thought the issue would be with the new TC, but I plugged back the old TC and it has the exact same problem. The only commonality between the two is that I foolishly updated the firmware on both to 7.4.1. The old TC was working just fine until I installed 7.4.1, and then it started to have the same problem handling the Excel files.
By the way, none of the Macs have any problems accessing and working on the Excel files off the TC, this only happens to the WinXP machines. Also, it only happens on the Excel files; we have other types of files in the TC and all of them seem to open and work just fine. But Excel is our mainstay so we're looking for a solution, can anyone help?

Same happened to me a while back when i updated the firmware 7.4.1 . the macs were ok but the Windows PC's sharing the Time capsule would not save any excel files as errors like memory too low
etc started to appear. easy way to correct this was to got into airport Utility and downgrade back to 7.3.2 , from the menu , you can select what firmware rev you want to go back to select downgrade to 7.3.2 and everything will work ok after this, remember to deselect auto update and check for firmware in the Airport pref till Apple get this sorted out.

  • Cannot open Excel files on Windows share and ONLY Excel files

I'm browsing a Windows share and for whatever reason it will not let me open Excel files directly from the network location. If I view the Coverflow, I can see a a preview of the actual file as well as copy it to the desktop and open it.
I receive an error message that says "filename.xls could not be found."
I can open up any other file from the network location, but not Excel files.
I checked the file permissions and they mirror the other file types, it may be worth mentioning that I utilize network synchronization and view these files from a PC as well. I also noticed when I create a new file in that location, it will only appear in OS X and not Windows, but is still completely accessible.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Automatic start of particular excel file at window start up

    Hi,
I created an excel file for reminders. That pop ups at system start up. It has a short cut in start up folder ( C:\Users\drsantoshsinghrathore\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART ). The problem is, that it starts up every time I start excel and show
up in vba explorer window. I want it to open only once at system or window start up. Is there any other way, please ?
    regards.

    Hi,
As far as I know, if we add the Excel file\template in
Excel xlstart folder (C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Excel\XLStart.), it will automatically open the file\template  when you start Excel. Thus, we do not to add the short cut in the Excel start up folder.
We could add the file to Windows startup folder and delete the file in Excel start up folder. And then, it'll open only once at system or window start up.
Your personal startup folder should be C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
The all user startup folder should be C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

  • Unable to open Excel files on Windows Network

I can no longer access Excel files on a windows network drive. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting my computer and it still doesn't work. I am able to drag the files to my desktop to open it, but It will not let me save back to the network and replace the exsisting file. Says that it can not be accessed and may be read only.
It worked for me the first week I had the computer, but then stopped. All other file types open just fine.
    Please help.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Excel files can be protected by the author. That is, an 'internal to the file' flag can be set to read only.
Additionally, for files on the network, if a file was improperly closed, then the server believes the file is still in use, therefor, marks it as read only.
It's easier to do the next thing from a windows box... make sure the windows box is set to show hidden files.
Navigate to the directory in which the file is located, and check it for hidden temp files. It will likely be named
    "~actual name of file.xls."
This is an indicator someone either has the file open, or had it open, didn't close it properly, thus it is considered open.
Deleting the hidden "~nameoffile.xls" may clear the problem.

  • Windows - Mac mixed environment: Excel file references, Windows Drive Letters

I was suggested to ask my question on this forum.
Our company has used Windows PCs only. For various reasons, we are now switching to a Mixed (Mac and PC) environment.
All of our work files are stored and server from a central Windows Server.
The shared folders are mounted on each Windows computer as Drive Letters (K:, L:, M:, N:, etc.).
In our Excel files, we use references to other Excel files that are stored on the server.
The reference paths include the drive letters. We've been doing this for many years, and have many files like this.
As far as I know, shared network folders cannot be mounted the same way under OS X.
Folders that under Windows show up as drive K, L, M, N, under OS X are mounted as "Common", "Templates", "Projects", etc.
So references that we've been using for years don't work anymore.
How could this be solved in Excel, under OS X?

    Hi,
This is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Windows-based Microsoft Office client. Since your query is directly related to Office under OS X, I would suggest you to post in the forum of
Office for Mac, where you can get more experienced responses:

  • How to read data from excel file in windows azure cloud service?

I have a web application in visual studio 2010 and windows azure sdk.It asks the user to upload an excel file and then read its data
to the database. When i ran the application on localhost it ran perfectly but when I run it using windows azure sdk emulator (using my application as a web role) it gives the error "The Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local
machine".How to resolve this other than using OpenXml?

You can access office documents only if office COM objects (means office) is installed on the machine.
One option is using of Open.XML (why don't you want to use it?) and another option is to use Office365. However the later one would probably change the whole architecture of you application.
One workaround might be to save Excel file as HTML and read it as HTML. This will not give you all of Open.XML and COM power, but you can very easy access and change data.

  • After uploading an excel file from Windows XP, impossible to read the file anymore

    Hello,
I uploaded an excel file from my Imac to the Icloud. I could use it on my Ipad through Numbers without problem. I went on my laptop running with Windows XP, I didn't see the plugin to install, so I didn't do it. I download this excel file and worked on it. When I uploaded again this file, I could see the letter E written on the file on the Icloud, but impossible to download it and work on it anymore from any of my devices. I installed the missing plugin on the laptop but still, no improvements.
    Any suggestions ?
    Best regards.

  • Corrupt Excel files created on my Mac

    Help!
I recently created a basic Excel file on my iMac G5 using the Microsoft Excel program. I tried opening the spreadsheet and it states:
The file cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.
I tried re-opening as as read-only, I tried re-locating the file to my external drive and I tried opening with Word. But, with no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
I think you need to recover the excel files. You may try Advanced Excel Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Excel xls files.
