Corrupt file challenges/Objects added
Hello,
I was a chosen one to have a corrupt file this morning. Did not open at all. Created a new file and imported the slide and objects. Everything went fine after many attempts except for sound. No sound files came through but I have a wierd object in my timeline and symbols for sound showig on the slides. See the attached image.
Has anyone seen this before? Adding audio at this point is touch and go. Sometimes it works sometimes it crashes.
Hi there
Looking at the image it would appear you are seeing audio. Screwed up audio perhaps. But the audio waveform normally is listed below the slide object on the Timeline.
My guess is that if you delete the audio from the slide the object will disappear.
Cheers... Rick

Computer shuts on and off some corrupted files - no virues now
Listed below are some of the errors I found on event log in the laptop:
I have a Qosimo 8 megs of memory, windows 7 64 bit. Running AVAST 7.0 antivirus and Malwarebytes - both paid subscriptions. I think the model number is 830 530 I bought in 2009.
The shutdown problem has
been happening on and off for the last six months. I had two major instances of trojans taking over my machine and it caused constant shutdowns. AVAST worked with me on one and they had me use malwarebytes and spybot and hijack this. They took over my computer to get it up and running properly, but this new round of errors a trojan was found in the registry key and the startuptoolbar. Two nights ago I had another shut down several times and after running malwarebytes and antivirus I could find no errors so I’m leaning toward corrupted files? Is there anyway to fix these files without having to reformat the hard drive?
I did run a computer repair and a computer memory repair tonight using F8 and no problems were found by the computer. I’m not sure what to do with these errors in event viewer.. I get the toshiba error
quite often and it madely stops me from going online with my internet connection, and I had downloaded a newer version but same problem – I use windows repair in network and the error is always resetting the toshiba network IP. I just put a note into toshiba on that problem.
I also use microsoft silverlight for my fenderfuse application which needs that software operate properly. I’m not sure exactly what to do with that Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. It states to check libraries – but what am I checking for? I do not have a lot of programs on the laptop but not sure what to look for in library?

Sometimes my computer shuts down often on its own and I find a Trojan - other times it shuts down often during a start up and I find no viruses as was the case yesterday. Today I did not get on the internet and the computer worked fine.
I guess I need to know if there is a way to reinstall the corrupted files without having to go back to the default settings when I got the computer. Does toshiba have a windows repair disc that works better then what I did with using F8 and having a system repair and memory check done that found no errors? I also installed the latest Toshiba service station and it did not fix the error problems in events log. When I did a restore it was before this was added so now my computer is working properly with windows on connecting to the internet wireless.
Malwarebytes said that by looking at these event viewer logs that it does not appear that I have a virus now but I do have corrupted files and can toshiba help me in getting them fixed. I really hate to do a complete reformat.
Thanks

I don't know how serious this probems are - I didn't like seeing the software security being stopped. But then it started up. I have copied everything personal on this laptop so I am ready to reformat if needed.
I still have the problem about IE not opening links unless I right button click to open it. I also had to make a separate ID to run Fender Fuse software as this computer was not recognizing the USB slot where I connect the amp to the laptop. Fender had me set up another id with minimum items and then I was able to connect to the amp and make changes.

Disk problem in MacBook Pro (hardware or corrupted files?)
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a 15" MBP 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM (added 1 to the original setup.)
A few months ago I replaced the original 120 GB hard drive, as it was getting full and making my computer slower. The new one is a 350 GB 5400 rpm Western Digital drive. I did this myself, following the instructions in ifixit.com, as I have done it in the past with other machines, including my wife's MBP, that is working fine.
In the first OS install I used migration assistant and recreated the original user exactly as in the old disk. After a couple of months of use the computer started to get slower and presented permission problems that didn't seem serious (used Disk Utility to check). After a while, there was also a report of problems on disk verification, that at one point couldn't be repaired with Disk Utility. I was able to get rid of the problem for a while using Disk Warrior, but at some point the disk problems appeared again and I had to do a new OS install from zero.
This time I formatted the hard drive writing zeros to correct possible physical errors and did a clean install. Used migration assistant to copy only my user's documents and library. After a couple of weeks of running the laptop without problems, I am having again reports of disk errors that Disk Utility can't repair. Disk Warrior can't access the drive and Tech Tool Pro reports 72 bad sectors.
My question is:
Is this definitely a hardware problem that will be solved by replacing the hard drive again, or is it possible that this is being the result of some corrupt files on my user's library (as the problem only appears after a while)?ign wrote:
Is it normal that the drve appears to be OK after an OS install and that the physical problem only appears after a while?
If you zero it, yes. That's exactly what zeroing does, "mapping" the HD so bad sectors/blocks are not used. But if a HD is dying, more bad areas will show up. It's time to replace the HD. -

I have been having trouble with some corrupted Files in Aperture and after reading some discussion groups I was led to beIieve it might be a hardware problem and not just a software bug-some people experiencing similar problems traced it back to bad RAM. I performed a Hardware test w/ the Mac OS start-up disc. The results indicated this error code:
**Error*code***Error*code**2MEM/104/4:DIMM2/J13
Can anyone help me here? Does this indicate there's a problem w/ the RAM in my DIMM2?
I'm running a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, OS 10.4.9. Quite a while ago I added 2 1GB RAM modules tro complement the original 512.
Thanks-
Bob
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Where and what did you buy exactly? and yes, you might want to remove the memory, zap the pram/nvram while doing so, rerun Apple Hardware Test. Contact Apple Care and the RAM vendor.
Sometimes two different sets of RAM won't get along, sometimes it will after moving or swapping RAM slots. It could be the chips have slightly off timing or voltage.
Obviously no one wants to run with just 512MB, and it was okay until recently. It would not be the first time that an OS X update also makes better and more use of available RAM to improve performance, and have trouble (soft memory errors or worse, k/p) with "marginal RAM" if I fully understand the MacInTouch: Bad RAM Report.
Try without the 2 x 1GB, try with JUST that (in the first pair of slots) also.
And run AHT and Memtest when you install RAM or make changes. -
Text files into Object ArrayList
I have another class reading line-for-line text file, send each line to a class object and that class splits the line into fields. An ArrayList holds the objects. No problem.
Then, an almost similar setup. This time, the file is clusters. A blank line separates the records. Here's the code:
* DBKlass.java
* from file.io
* a text file with blocks of data
* "records" are 3-10 lines of text separated by blank-line-return
* all lines read into an Arraylist<Klass> klasList
* file.io also added the micron character to any blank lines
* pass a loaded ArrayList which is a long line-for-line storage
* of my file I read in to a field formater DBKlass
* to make Objects of type Klass
package org.vcbrad.mainframe;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class DBKlass {
ArrayList<Klass> klasList;
public DBKlass( ArrayList<String> al ) {
if( al != null && al.size() >= 1 )
loadDB( al );
else
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(MainFrame.desktop,"File not found");
private void loadDB( final ArrayList<String> al ) {
String fldSep = "\u00B5"; // unicode = ? micron
int alSize = al.size();
klasList = new ArrayList<Klass>();
for (int i = 0; i < alSize; i++) {
if(al.get(i).equalsIgnoreCase(fldSep)) {
String temp = al.get( i+1 ) + "]";
al.set(i+1,temp);
String coursework = "";
for (String s : al) {
coursework += s;
String[] courses = coursework.split(fldSep);
for (int i = 0; i < courses.length; i++) {
System.out.println(courses);
klasList.add( new Klass( courses[i] ) );
* System.out displays what I want
* Ex: LPE17]Koordination Hauswirt-schaftlicher Arbetisprocesse.
* pass that line to the new Klass( String rowrecord );
* and then ...
* Klass k = klasList.get(0) ... .get(1) ... .get(2) etc.
* ALL objects from klasList
* have the only the last record from my original text
My question: Am I defeating ArrayList with my look-ahead feature? I realize ArrayList is not synchronized. Or, do I need to write out to a new file, read it again to make my objects???

OK, after spending a lot of time with my original problem I went back and made a method call to the ArrayList<Klass> from outside this class. For whatever reason, jumping and/or manipulating the the internal Iterator of ArrayList won't let me make Objects. And, trying to manipulate Strings twice just makes the logic hard to untangle. So, it works now. Baffling because I have an identical class that does work line-for-line manipulating Strings before adding myObjects to ArrayList<myObject>First of all: Take a deep breath, and feel your feet... Don't panic, and do not cross-post or re-post with more exclamation marks just to get some attention!
What kind of data are you going to process in your program? Probably images. Have a look at how images are handled in a Java program. How you read them, and how you display them. Then decide on the type of data you are going to keep in which data structure.
Figure out what you want to do.
Take a peak at some java example classes and programs.
Perhaps have a look at the java.awt.Image class. Just an idea...
Kind regards -

InDesign - need a "Fix my Corrupted File" Upload Service
There are frequently posts on the forum for people who have corrupted INDD files. This means lost work and frustrated InDesign users.
The Indesign team should offer a "Fix my File" upload link to its customers.
For each corrupted file, you will help a customer, and in the process, hopefully improve the overall stability of the product (which has issues) and benefit everyone...
Adobe: If you are afraid that you will be swamped with requests to "Fix my File", then you should probably just get out of the SW business now...Zak Williamson wrote: "If the documents are fundamentally corrupt in some way, theres no way to repair them." and then later "As I mentioned to Casey, it's rarely possible to repair a truly corrupt document"
I definitely don't want this to sound like a flame or a whine, but I find that statement quite flabbergasting. Somebody at Adobe must understand the format of an InDesign file well enough to be able to edit out the specific element that is causing InDesign to complain about the document. I do file repair for another company (www.qsatoolworks.com) whose file format is probably more complex than an InDesign file. In over 10 years I've only had 1 or 2 files I could not repair at least to the point of recovering the textual data.
What led me to this forum is that a customer contacted me to help them recover an InDesign file. They just migrated from a PowerMac G4 with CS2 to a Mac Pro with CS3 and a few of their files won't open. ("ID may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.")
We have tried them on another Mac with CS2, and they won't open there either. "Something" must have gone wrong when the files were transferred to the new Mac.
(Naturally, the old hard drive has already been reformatted.)
Knowing what I do about file formats (but understanding that my knowledge is nearly worthless in an InDesign file) I have to assume an InDesign file contains an object map with pointers to the various objects in the document. The idea of telling the customer "your 32 page booklet is lost" when the problem could simply be a screwed up pointer is horrifying to me.
Here at QSA ToolWorks we charge $120/hour for recovery service, success or failure. We've saved lots of people from their own recklessness, and created a passionate user base in the process. We've made our product more reliable (and fixed some bugs) based on the knowledge gained through file repair; Adobe could do the same, but if they don't want to provide such a service, perhaps they should consider training third parties to do it.
I'd like to address one other comment above. Harbs wrote "I've been lead to believe that Adobe has utilities (which they use internally) to analyze and possibly fix corrupted files." Of course, I don't know whether Adobe has such utilities, but I suspect they don't. Because I can do Helix database repairs, people likewise assume I have "special utilities" that can fix corrupted files. (We've even been accused of keeping them secret so we can use file repair as a source of revenue!) I don't. What I do have is a deep understanding of the file format. Beyond that, a file editor and a couple of AppleScripts I wrote to display the object fields in a human-readable format are all the 'special' tools I have. If Adobe has any sort of tools for analyzing files, I suspect they are much the same. In other words, without extensive internal knowledge, they are worthless. -
How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?
How do I find corrupt file that would be disallowing proper exporting of movie?
I usually start by exporting to AME (as opposed to encoding "in-process" by clicking Export in the Export Settings dialog). Then watch the preview in AME's Encoding panel to see where it chokes. Adding an adjustment layer over the whole sequence with the Timecode effect applied--and scaled up to full frame width--can really help isolate the location.
That approach can be a pain in cases where it chugs away for a long time before encoding fails. In those cases, I use a divide-and-conquer approach:
Is it the video or the audio?: Disable all video tracks and encode. Then re-enable the video and mute all audio tracks
Where in the timeline is the problem: Export the first half, then the second half (using In/Out Points). Then keep dividing the half that fails until you've narrowed it down to a relative handful of clips. -
Corrupt File Won't Let Me Start FCPX.. PLEASE HELP!
I've been working on this big production with Final Cut Pro X for a Tv company here in Panama. Suddenly after I finished my edit one day and went back the next day to check if everything was good to turn in, FCPX wouldn't start or work at all. I've been doing research for the past few days. So I downloaded "Pro Maintenance Tools", which helped me found what the error was by reading the crash report FCPX gave me. It appear that the problem is related to a series of corrupt files related to Audio, Plugin, and Effects Rendering. So I scanned the whole Project and Event folders with the "Corrupt Clip Finder" tool from the ''Pro Maintenance Tools'' Application, but it couldn't find a thing.
Ps: The program only works whenever I move the project folder out of the movie carpet, and won't when putted back in again. So the problem is definetly within the project folder somewhere.
I'm attaching a copy of my error report so you guys can help me!

Corrupt files - tracks keep restarting in itunes?
I've been searching high and low for the cause or solution to this problem with no luck so maybe someone could help me out.
A while ago I important my entire MP3 collection into iTunes en mass. I told iTunes to copy files to the media folder and order them.
After a while I realised many albums within my collection had developed a reoccuring problem:
The track will start and play around 5-10 seconds and then it restarts again.
On closer inspection it appears that the actual file itself has been corrupted - an extra 5-10 second copy of the intro of a track is tagged onto the start.
I am trying to work out a correlation between all the albums that have become corrupt and the only thing I can think of is they may have all been wma files before imported to itunes. However after re-ripping a couple of CD's to itunes to replace some of the corrupted files the problem has poped up another couple of times. This only appears to have happened to files where I have added the artwork myself. So I'm thinking something is happening when the files is edited/converted in itunes? Maybe the metadata I don't know.
Any light shed would be much appreciated I havn't found anyone with this problem! Running Windows 7 Pro btw.
Cheers,
AndyI'm still getting the same issue, files are disappearing for no reason. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Corrupt files in Aperture and RAM upgrade
Thanks-
Bob
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Yeah, sounds like it's a bad chip. Remove the chip from the DIMM2/J13 slot (you'll have to remove it's pair too) and run the test again to make sure the others work. Too bad with the original 512 it probably won't let you open aperture (though you can hack it to work.)
Depending on the ram it could be under warrenty. I had a crucial chip that tested bad and the replaced it no questions asked. -
Corrupted file will not allow backup
Went to change my Time Machine disk and got this message
"You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file “.001f5bf0a8c6” in folder “Time Machine Backups”
To view or change access privileges, select the item in Finder and choose
File > Get Info."
When i search for the .001f5bf0a8c6 file it does not show up. My guess is it's a corrupt file.
Any ideas out there ? Thank you for your time.It's an invisible file which Spotlight cannot find by default. This sounds like a problem somewhat similar to another TM problem. See the following solution. To easily search for invisible files use Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It's freeware.
What to do if Time Machine reports you don't have permission
This was posted in the Apple Discussions by V.K. I have only modified it slightly to be more generic.
The problem seems to be that 10.5.6 changes permissions on a file so that even the root user doesn't have write peivileges. I have no idea why they did this. The workaround suggested in [an]other post will probably work, too, but i did something less drastic. Instead of deleting the file I changed permissions on it, and it worked just fine. An added benefit is that the permission change seems to stick, so you don't have to delete the file every time you change a drive.
[Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt [enter] the following command:
sudo chmod 644 /volumes/"TM drive name"/.xxxxxxxxxxxx
The name of the file .xxxxxxxxxxxx is based on the MAC address of your computer and will be different for every computer. Put the name of the TM drive in the above and keep the quotes.
You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) which is normal.
This was edited by Kappy just for cleanup.
Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. -

These links take you to the sections that are directly relevant. Whilst the first post may appear to be the same for each link, scroll down the page a bit to get to the appropriate information. I hope Apple will have a solution for us before I need to re-consolidate the consolidated summary (again). Please use this page only as an index to the summary. To keep things tidy, direct technical queries should be posted in the summary, and not in here please. Many thanks to everyone for their continued efforts in dealing with this problem.
Kind regards,
GophaThank you for the tip Paul.
However, a few comments if I may:
1) Any form of file recovery, chkdsk, Scandisk etc etc is only a temporary solution, because this issue is triggered by deep sleep. So you can fix the thing, but as soon as you hit Deep Sleep, it'll come back.
2) The Scandisk option is fine for verifying the Pod, but takes a very long time, runs the HDD continuously, and in the end achieves nothing more than can be accomplished by the chkdsk at the command prompt, or a soft reset (as I have tested) for this chkdsk error. However, for verifying the actual structure of the iPod it is good.
3) Defragging the iPod is a much disputed topic. Whether it's actually any use for the music is unknown. I know a few people who do indulge in a big of defrag from time to time, but I've yet to have a report from anyone saying that it helps in any way.
Overall, Scandisk (with both of the Fix File System and Recover Bad Sectors options checked), followed by Defrag takes a whole lot longer than it would to Restore the Pod using iPod Updater. The Restore has the added benefit of freshly reinstating the operating system, which Scandisk and Defrag do not do...
chkdsk also takes a fraction of the time that Scandisk takes.
Kind regards,
Gopha. -
Layer Break Won't Change-- Corrupt File
I'm trying to change my layer break marker and no matter what I do it won't change. I even tried automatic and it doesn't change. Not only that, but the marker that it seems to be stuck on being the break point doesn't show up as such and when I change another marker to the break point, it doesn't change. When I try to delete that track, it won't delete. Sounds to me like a corrupt file. Anyone agree? Disagree? Help? Please? Thanks!

Not a full project (I can do a more detailed one if you need it) shows what I am speaking about about adding markers into the timeline, you willl first Build then go to Format as shown. The pulldown should have a chapter markker that is black. You may need to hunt and peck to add markers in the proper place.
You can also use the VTS view to get some sense of where the 1/2 point may be

Let me know if that helps or I will do another example
