Corrupt file prevents installation

I recently re-installed Win XP on my (old) computer.
When I go to re-install my Premiere Elements using the original installation CD the installation fails with:
Error 1335
Data1.cab file required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.
What can I do? Is there some other way that I can get the Data1.cab file??
Thanks for any help / advice.

Welcome to the forum.
As Steve's suggestion to download is based on you having a S/N for PrE 10, now is probably a good time to ask, what version of PrE do you have?
Along with his suggestions, I have three little "tricks," that might, or might not be able to help.
Copy the installation DVD to your internal HDD, and launch the installer from there. I would NOT Copy it to the Desktop Folder, but would create a New Folder, and name it something like "Premiere_Install." Sometimes, a file, that causes an issue when called from the installation routine, will Copy over just fine.
Use a program, like the great, free ImgBurn, to Copy your installation DVD to a new DVD. Use high-quality blank media, such as Verbatim, Taiyo-Yuden, or Falcon Pro. Try to install from your copy. Sometimes, the byte for byte Copy process will get you non-corrupt files on the new disc.
If you have more than one multi-drive, try installing from the other. I always build systems with at least two multi-drives and always choose different brands and models. Some multi-drives read some discs better, than another multi-drive. I have had several that would throw errors in my Plextor, but my LG would handle them just fine, and vice versa.
None of those is failsafe, but each has helped me, and many others.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Corrupt files preventing time machine backup

When I tried to backup to time machine, my backup freezes after approximately 20MB and does not move any further. I have left it for several days and it still hasn't moved. When I open Console, I get an error message 35 which gives details of a corrupt file in the document revisions folder on my hard drive. When I delete the problem files, time machine is able to backup. Deleting these files takes a long time (up to 2 days). However, these corrupt files seem to keep reappearing here all the time. I do not know what could be causing this to happen or how to prevent it. Help please! Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

  • Finding corrupt file in an Windows 8.1 Update installation

    Hi
I would like to know if, with
Windows 8.1 Update, there is a
way to know if its installation has
    some of its corrupt file?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

Usually after update been download, it will be checked for file integrity before it install and if there is any error it will notify you and after installation, it will also notify you if something went wrong.
However, you may run sfc /scannow command to check whether your Windows files are corrupted or not.
You should run the comm and in command prompt as administrator.
    In which Windows mode is
    better to run this command?
    Thanks

  • Fix for Corrupt File That Prevents Publish

Since last night I've been getting an error when trying to publish my site. The error is pointing to one of the background images in the template stating that the disk may be corrupt or that I don't have access rights or something like that. I couldn't seem to figure out how to fix this - I even overwrote the image file hoping to fix it, but nothing worked. I figured I'd reboot in the morning and see if the system automagically would clear it up.
Well funny thing... I use Super Duper for my backup application and it choked last night on the very same file that iWeb was. However, Super Duper gave me the actual path of the corrupt file.
    | 04:30:38 AM | Error | SDCopy: FTS_NS error for item: '/Users/suzanne/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites/rptilev6-2.jpg' err: 22, Invalid argument
This seems to be some kind of secondary cache of images that iWeb uses to upload to .MAC. I opened up that folder, replaced the file with a new version and everything worked again.

Had the same problem, but with music only. Thank you for the information

  • Computer shuts on and off some corrupted files - no virues now

Listed below are some of the errors I found on event log in the laptop:
I have a Qosimo 8 megs of memory, windows 7 64 bit. Running AVAST 7.0 antivirus and Malwarebytes - both paid subscriptions. I think the model number is 830 530 I bought in 2009.
    The shutdown problem has
been happening on and off for the last six months. I had two major instances of trojans taking over my machine and it caused constant shutdowns. AVAST worked with me on one and they had me use malwarebytes and spybot and hijack this. They took over my computer to get it up and running properly, but this new round of errors a trojan was found in the registry key and the startuptoolbar. Two nights ago I had another shut down several times and after running malwarebytes and antivirus I could find no errors so I’m leaning toward corrupted files? Is there anyway to fix these files without having to reformat the hard drive?
I did run a computer repair and a computer memory repair tonight using F8 and no problems were found by the computer. I’m not sure what to do with these errors in event viewer.. I get the toshiba error
quite often and it madely stops me from going online with my internet connection, and I had downloaded a newer version but same problem – I use windows repair in network and the error is always resetting the toshiba network IP. I just put a note into toshiba on that problem.
I also use microsoft silverlight for my fenderfuse application which needs that software operate properly. I’m not sure exactly what to do with that Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. It states to check libraries – but what am I checking for? I do not have a lot of programs on the laptop but not sure what to look for in library?

Sometimes my computer shuts down often on its own and I find a Trojan - other times it shuts down often during a start up and I find no viruses as was the case yesterday.  Today I did not get on the internet and the computer worked fine.
I guess I need to know if there is a way to reinstall the corrupted files without having to go back to the default settings when I got the computer.  Does toshiba have a windows repair disc that works better then what I did with using F8 and having a system repair and memory check done that found no errors?  I also installed the latest Toshiba service station and it did not fix the error problems in events log.  When I did a restore it was before this was added so now my computer is working properly with windows on connecting to the internet wireless.
Malwarebytes said that by looking at these event viewer logs that it does not appear that I have a virus now but I do have corrupted files and can toshiba help me in getting them fixed.  I really hate to do a complete reformat.

  • Corrupted files

Right my laptop isn't working. I formatted my hard drive and went to re-install WinXP. The problem being that at 56% installation, the battery on my laptop cut out. Now I can't even get the files installed by XP off my hard drive. They only show up on the C:/ when its unpartioned and in that case the command in ms dos ( format c:) doesn't work,it only works when the hard drive is partionted.
XP refuses to run installation again while these files remain. I need your advice!

On the screen going black - maybe it has entered hibernation mode. Try changing the settings in the Lenovo Energy management schemes. You can refer to my posts in my Blog on these items for more details. The corrupted files may be due to faulty media. Try a different media or a different disc.

This message will be issued if files necessary for installation are not found once the self-extracting executable extracts its content. If you successfully used same distribution file to install on another machine, it is very likely that the distribution file got corrupted while being moved from one system to another.
If you use ftp to transfer files between systems, make sure that you transfer file in binary mode.
If you don't have the original distribution file anymore, you might need to download the distribution again.

  • What is a "corrupt file" and how do I get rid of it?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and (hopefully) offering a solution! At the end of this past March, I purchased a new ASUS E4109 from Best Buy. It has been working great until 2 days ago when I turned it on. The black screen popped up stating that Windows had failed to run and I needed to install my installation disk (did this come with my laptop?). It gave the options of retrying in normal mode, safe mode, safe mode with networks, etc, etc. When I was finally able to load it in normal mode, it immediately told me I have some sort of corrupt file and need to run "CHKDSK" to repair. Hmmmm for starters, I dont even know what that means. Anyways, the bottom line is that something is wrong with it and I cant seem to figure out how to repair it without making another trip to BestBuy. I would SO greatly appreciate any suggestions to repair, as well as why this happened in the first place. I dont download anything out of the ordinary ( that I know of!) and I cant imagine what could have happened. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me if you can.... it's a huge upset that I have a brand new laptop I cannot even use at the moment. I sincerely appreciate any help, suggestions, advice!! Thankyou, Whitney

ASUS laptops do come with recovery discs. There should be two of them labeld as such.
To do a disc check, open My Computer, right click on your C drive and select properties.
Click on the Tools tab, and then check box "Automatically Fix Errors" and click Start. You'll most likely have to restart your computer for it to finish.
Corrupted files can be caused by a lot of things, most commonly not shutting your laptop down correctly by just holding the power button. Viruses can also cause them but we'll go with the assumption that's not it for now.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • InDesign CS3 program will not open - Win XP - after trying to open corrupt file.

Help! the program Adobe InDesign will not open up anymore.
Here is the story and what I have tried. One week on the 16th my server crashed two of the three hard drives failed (RAID) I had the two replaced. Since then all seamed to be ok but few of files were missing and some that I tried to open would crash InDesign I assume that the files got corrupt from the HD's going bad. Server kept telling me to run CHKDSK utility. I ran it and and some of the files reappeared. Today, thinking that the Chkdsk utility had fixed the bad files I tried to open one of the files that caused InDesign to crash and it crashed again.
Now I cannot open InDesign at all when I try to launch InDesign within 3-4 seconds Adobe will crash!  Reboot and try again same thing.
I tried to delete the files in the Recovery folder thinking it was trying to open the corrupted file that it last tried to open. Same thing.
I moved the preference folder to the desk top thinking that it might have been causing the problem - no change.
I reinstalled InDesign over top of the existing program (did not uninstall first) rebooted and tried to launch - no change.
I tried system restore, None of my restore points that I have tried (auto restore points) will restore my system for what ever reason.
Please Help with any suggestions I need this fixed soon.

Installing CS3 was a pain, and the installer is very sensitive to conflict with just about everything under the sun, so you need to run it in a bare-bones boot (but not safe mode). I turn off ALL non essential programs and services using MSConfig when doing a CS3 install.
That said, yes, running the CS3 clean script will probably remove all things Adobe from the system. The Microsoft utility is much more benign than the description makes it sound -- it removes registry information for previous installations so there is no trace of them to confuse the OS. I'm not aware that it has removed anything other than what it was told to remove, but I've only had to use it once, I think.
You can try a simple uninstall/reinstall first (and you should be able to remove and reinstall just ID from the suite if you use the original disks). That will certainly be faster and less painful than the clean script, but may not work. Seems odd that a serrver crash should have corrupted a local installation, though, so you might want to take a close look at the machine for other problems, perhaps some sort of malware invasion.

  • Music not playing. Corrupted files?

Ok so my library exists on an unjournaled external drive. I got another one to accommodate my video collection and left the iTunes library on the original HDD. After a few days of HDD maintenance (longest being defragmenting, which I did more than once in the time frame) on all 3 of my drives all data was in great shape. Later I ran into an error, my eDrive would mount and unmount constantly and I couldn't eject the drives. I proceeded to shut my computer down. The new HDD (without the eDrive) successfully ejected upon shut down, the second remained completely on, spinning and everything. Normally the drives power off when ejected and then I hit the power switch. I reluctantly turned it off. When I rebooted I ran a check for corrupted data, one unimportant image file was corrupted. Not bad. Later I found a 1.8GB (ish) game would not open and asked to be reinstalled. I did so and lost my character data, oh well. Now I find that chunks of my iTunes library (no podcasts, just music) are not playing. Those chunks I would consider localized as they remain in the albums. When playing through, iTunes will simply skip the tracks and go on to the next playable one. I reveal the file in the Finder and attempt to open it in Quicktime and it is not a file that Quicktime understands (-2048). So what is here? Even after syncing the files are still on my iPod, should I delete them from iTunes and use Senuti to get them back? Anything is welcome.
Bonus points to anyone who can tell me if there's a way to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing my iPod on connection. An example of what I mean is I hold a key as iTunes launches to prevent the sync.
    Thanks,
    Alex
    15-inch 1.5GHz PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.280GB RAM, 128MB VRAM

    Thank you very much!
And to anyone else, I've found that some corrupted files have made it to my iPod. It just skips them and continues. I have yet to find out if it is growing, and if it is I have some paranoia theories.
    1. Modern Mac Virus (But the last Mac virus would of been released before iTunes it's been so long, it couldn't be)
    2. iTunes corrupts songs that are not purchased from the iTMS
    3. The RIAA has a virus that spreads to computers without copy protected music
I doubt my defragmenting harmed it. Luckily I can just get my music back, but it's a time consuming process and something I shouldn't have to do..

  • Corrupt file on MBA, faulty SSD?

Hi. I bought a retail MBA in january 2014.
I have just one question. I downloaded a program recently, that installed succesfully. But when I tried to open the application, OSX told me that the downloaded file was corrupted. When I tried re-installing it and opened the application a second time it worked fine. Obviously it wasn't the download that was corrupted, but rather the first installation.
Is this a good indication of a faulty SSD, or can such things just as well happen due to other reasons?
Verify Disk just comes up with a few "permission" errors that get repaired, nothing about other corrupted files.

Sometimes weird things happen. Disk Utility can't tell whether you have any corrupt data or application files really, it is more about determining that the catalog is corrupt. (The disk catalog tells the computer where files begin and how large they are.) It also keeps track of permissions which indicate who the file belongs to and how is permitted to access/use them. Again, this hasn't much to do with file corruption.
I suggest that you begin backing up frequently if you aren't already. If your SSD is failing this obviously will keep you from losing anything important.

  • SOLUTION for "corrupt file/directory" unable to install FLASH

How many of you have run into trouble trying to install or update Flash Player and got the message about a corrupt file/folder at "C:/windows/system32/macromedia/flash"?  If you are like me, when you got it you first tried to install again.  Didn't work.  Then you went thru the troubleshooting steps listed online (i.e.  uninstall, manually install, run Flash uninstall tool, etc.).  Nothing worked, right?  Yeah me too!
Then you got really mad and tried to delete that nasty "Flash" folder/directory.  And like me you found out that the system won't let you.  Like me, you probably wasted some time trying to bootstrap the file permissions to allow you to delete it, and, unless your one of Microsoft's senior techs and know the mythical secret "God Level" access permission code, you too failed!
Then brilliance struck (which happens about as often as that second lightning visit!)!  Here is the solution and it's rediculously simple:  rename the file!!
Doesn't matter to what, just change it and ignore it;  so will the Flash Player installer!  Go download and install the player and it will recreate that directory all nice and shiny and new and, most importantly, UN-CORRUPTED!
    I thank you!

Adobe stopped supporting Google, so try with older version of flash and install it manually

What is being done to make InDesign better?  Our users seem to have many corruption issues which seem to be resolved either by "cleaning" the files by exporting them to .IDML or by deleting and recreating the preferences file.  I cannot seem to reproduce the scenarios that cause these corruptions ( i.e. doing steps A, B, C results in corruption) but I can be assured every day one of our users has an issue with a corrupted file.  I have done the usual with keeping software up-to-date, operating systems patched, device drivers current, etc., all to no avail.  I would like to know how serious Adobe is about getting to the root cause of these corruption issues.  Obviously file corruption is a known problem if there are knowledge based lists on how to resolve the issues and software has been created to scan and fix corrupted files.  What I am looking for an Indesign fix that prevents these file corruption issues in the first place.  I would like some thoughts and comments about this.

Thanks for the response. This brings up addition questions.
How do I tell if there is a “bad font”?  There doesn’t seem to be any correlation of corruption if “Arial” is used versus “Courier New” versus “Courier”.  If the file becomes corrupt and we export it and import it to clear the corruption, we continue to use the same fonts and continue to work on the project until completion.  If the fonts are bad and we continue to use them, we would never get the project completed as file would corrupt straight away.  When we export and import the corrupt file, we do not notice any font or style change on the screen like a “bad font” got cleared during the process.
As for plug-ins, there seems to be Adobe plugins on these machines.
As for conflicting programs, do you have a list of programs that conflict with InDesign?  How can I tell if another program is causing a conflict? If the person is running InDesign and they open Microsoft Word to perform another task, would this cause InDesign to corrupt its file?
I am currently taking the step of setting up a bare bones machine for a trial.  The machine will have Windows 7 OS, Microsoft Office 2010, and InDesign loaded on it and that’s it.  This hopefully will eliminate conflicts with other programs.
