Corrupt files in After Effects CS3

Hi,
I have a mystery. Seems like every time I create a file at 1280 x 720 using square pixel. That file will become corrupt. It would be fine one day and corrupt a week later. Corrupt meaning that it would list files missing that are there and the program would freeze up
I have tried importing it into another project, but when I do that the program basically freezes.
What should I do to fix this?
This is what I have
Quad core PC 2.4 GHz
2 GB of RAM (will be changing to 3GB Corsair soon)
Windows XP Pro
Quadro FX/1500 256MB

>I do get a multicore 850 error. I have no idea what that means.
Neither have I, but at least it's a confirmation that something is not right. ;-) The general configuration seems fine as do the source files. In your case any adjustments to the SATA bus will have to be done in the BIOS as your disk is plugged to the motherboard. Updating the BIOS is in general associated with the risk of making everything defunct, so I don't advise it in this case. However, you can look into a few things:
- Check the cable and connector plugs. The may just be a tiny bit loose, but that can be enough to cause signal fading and successive errors.
- If there is an alternate plug port, consider using it.
- If there are other devices like DVD burners connected on the same bus/ cable as well, temporarily unplug them or plug them to a different port.
- In your BIOS, check the SATA settings. Disable the secondary/ tertiary channels, if no devices are plugged to them. Sometimes unwanted signal echo and voltage degeneration can cause issues on the primary bus.
- Check which SATA mode you are using. There should be options to select SATA, AHCI, IDE legacy compatibility and RAID or combinations of those modes.
Most boards will default to AHCI, which is an enhanced SATA and correct for most environments. IDE will be the most compatible, but not yield maximum performance. Be warned, though. It is possible that your system will not boot the operating system if you change settings. In that case immediately switch back to the original one to prevent damage!
When entering the BIOS, additional options for SATA may become available (bus timing, IRQ of the internal controller and whatnot, but I recommend you leave them untouched. Modern BIOSes will auto-adapt and set those parameters correctly 99.9% of the time.
As a last item, look at the general BIOS config. Check if there are some odd energy saving settings somewhere that may send your disk to sleep prematurely. Also check the boot sequence plus the host OS compatibility setting. Many BIOSes allow to choose between optimized boot settings for Win XP and Win Vista plus optional other alternatives for XP64, Linux and so on. This setting might potentially affect how you operating system detects and treats your harddrive.
If none of the above gives any improvement, find a hardware geek near you who can help you. ;-)

  • 10.5.2 and After Effects CS3

Installed 10.5.2 and the graphics updater on my dual quad core this morning. Importing Photoshop or PICT files into After Effects CS3 is a major mess. These files now import as Pict sequence files of a duration of 1 frame each. This is putting a huge damper on my workflow. Anyone else have this issue? Any fix ideas?

According to the Adobe Forum AE 8.02 is released and should have fixed these issues:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05d846/0
See the bottom of the thread.
I have 8.02 as well as QT 7.4 installed but I'm not a real AE user yet so I can't speak to if the fix corrects everything. As far as FCP goes, I've seen no issues with QT 7.4. It installed before I saw all the threads warning against it but so far I've seen no issues.

  • Adobe After effects cs3 deployment

    Hi
I am hoping someone here can help me. I have to deploy Adobe after effects CS3 to about 30 pc's.
I have done the following command
setup--record=1 which generated a install.xml file and an uninstall.xml file
I am still struggling to understand what the install.override.xml does?,
Lastly is there any way to include the updates needed for after effects cs3 during the deployment?
Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated

I am still struggling to understand what the install.override.xml does?
It overrides dependencies for local installs like language selection and serialization or otehrwise some packages would not install.
Lastly is there any way to include the updates needed for after effects cs3 during the deployment?
Not that I know of, but you could just create a custom MSI script/package that installs them immediately after the original software.

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 horrible export quality

I made an intro for my Youtube channel using Adobe After Effects CS3, in the preview and whilst I was rendering the video quality was remarkable, no flaw in it. But after it rendered and I exported it as a .flv file the quality was horrible and grainy. Since I'm starting a serious channel my videos have to be high quality, including the intro. Is there any way to make it better quality, perhaps a free program that converts it into a better quality extension, or anything. I appreciate any feedback since I really need this intro in high quality.
Here's the video link as you can see it's grainy as hell, even when put at 720p(HD):
As I mentioned before in the preview and whilst rendering the quality was one of the best I've ever seen, no grain or anything, it was flawless, but when I exported, the quality turned to s***. Please help.

Well, straight to the point: Read YouTube's requirements! FLV? They don't even recomemnd it themselves and in the last 3 years nobody serious has used it. There are enough free H.264 encoders based on ffmpeg. Download one and render an uncompressed movie from AE to be used for final output.

  • Export to After Effects CS3 in FCE 4 workflow.

I set up my FCE 4 prefs to edit video in After Effects CS3. After I rendered the clip in FCE 4, I right clicked to >edit video in editor, After Effects CS3 opened and low and behold sat my clip with the same settings that my FCE 4 project had. After some AE title work, to get it back into FCE 4 I used Render Queue in AE set at the same settings. I then took the .mov and overwrote the clip in FCE 4. The composite looked like the original ( with the new compositing work of course ). The audio even worked perfect.
I tried to do the same thing in Motion 2 ... um .... no luck. Motion would not open any files... period.
This may work as a nice round trip compositing workflow that was taken away with the export features that were in FCE 3.5 HD.
Since Motion is not available as a separate app any longer, this may be a great alternative for FCE 4 users who what to do some compositing in their projects.
    Ed

Curious, what does Apple want you to do with open video in editor feature in FCE 4?
I think it works with Livetype 2, but it's not a video editor in my opinion.
Can't round trip with Motion and FCP with the edit in video option. I think I saw a tutorial once where after you have done an initial round trip, you can use this feature to go back and forth?
I know that you can open Motion projects in AE by changing the extension. I do not think I would open LiveType in AE, doesn't make sense to me.
At least us FCE users who want to do some compositing work have some options. I still wish I could round trip with Motion though.

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 won't install

I have windows XP, and I used to have my version of Adobe After Effects CS3 installed. Then I uninstalled it because it kept crashing, but I forgot to deactivate it before I uninstalled it. Now every time I've tried reinstalling it, the installation goes completely fine until the last step, when it says:
    Summary:
    Successfully installed: 3 component(s):
Adobe After Effects CS3 Template Projects and Footage
Adobe After Effects CS3 Third Party Content
    Shared Components
    Errors: 2 component(s):
    Adobe After Effects CS3
         Component install failed
    Shared components
         component install failed
I don't know how to fix this! I've tried multiple times at reinstalling it but each time without success. I've also ran the installation as administrator, and I've restarted my computer. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks a lot!

Did you correctly uninstall the software? Are there other Adobe programs on the system? Sounds like there are other, newer versions that throw off the install. You need to uninstall those and reinstall them after you have installed CS3. Also simply delete the caps.db in C:\Program Files\Common Fiels\Adobe\caps. And for further diagnosis it might help to have a look at the install logs.

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 crashes with Codecs such as Motion JPEG and Avid DnxHD

    Hey guys, I'm new here
I'm having a problem with After Effects CS3 crashing with .mov files (exported from Adobe Premiere) with codecs such as Motion Jpeg A and Avid's DnxHD. Its driving me crazy.
If I import a Motion Jpeg A file, AE crashes immediately. If I import a DnxHD file that works fine with Premiere, it seems to import ok. However, when I try to play it in AE it comes up as a plain white... thing. If I move the slider across it previews one or two frames before AE crashes. Its driving me crazy.
AE works ok with H.164 and animation files.
I'm reinstalled quicktime and Avids codecs, uninstalled ffdshow, disabled Open GL and multiprocessing, changed between 10bit and 8bit (whatever that is all about) with the dnxhd and I'm really stumped. If I can get Dnxhd working I'm fine with that. I thought I'd mention the Motion Jpeg A codec to see if they're a result of the same problem.
I've also tried Avid's RGB packed Codec with the same results.
I'm running Windows Xp 32 bit with 3gbs of ram, a GeForce 8600 gt with a Intel Pentium Duo Core Processor 2.00 GHZ.
    Can anyone help me please?

I'm mistaken, Animation files don't work either!
I tried that with no luck. I even tried a few more Quicktime codecs with the same results.
Only H.164 and some png compressed .mov files seem to work. Very frustrating.
I'm surprised thats the case - I am defintley due for an upgrade. Even though this system seems to work ok, struggling a little bit with HD .mov files but yeah, I've been planning a new system for a while.

  • Mpeg-2 files in after effects cc

before i could have imported mpeg-2 files in after effects cc did a update about four days ago and now i cannot import any mpeg-2 files. am only getting error " file is either corrupt or  unsupported. i uninstall and reinstall wipe it clean and the full works and it wasn't working still. tried to purchase online but adobe says they feature is not supported on my region. i am in trinidad in the caribbean and have a international visa card which always works fine with other purchases. please help this is so frustrating. now i can't finish my music video that am working on. HELP HELP HELP

Has the trial for After Effects CC expired?
You are allowed to launch After Effects CC one time after the 30-day trial period has expired, but when you do so a a bug exists in this state: MPEG2 files can not be read or written.
The only solution for this bug is to license After Effects CC; ex. purchase a subscription. My apologies for the problems you're having with the payment system. As Rick says, please contact customer support for help with this.

  • After Effects CS3/CS4 Mac to PC compatibility

I am using After effects at school and they run on PC (with CS3). At home I work on a brand new iMAC OSX Leopard (with CS4). After Effects in Leopard recognizes the file I start to work on at school. But if I work on it on my iMAC, when I open the files in After Effects on school's PCs, it won't open. Is there anyway to get compatibility on both sides?

TimeRemapper is right, but there are a few relatively small things to keep in mind for cross-platform compatibility:

  • Problems exporting Animation codec from After Effects CS3 to FCP

    Hi,
I wonder if anybody can help: I am having troubles with video transfer from After effects CS3 to FCP 6
my workflow is to edit and export in FCP as quicktime movie - work on the clip in AE and then export as Animation/best quality/Millions of colors+. The footage is SD Pal 1024 x 576.
the problem is that the files don't seem to play back properly in quicktime - very jagged and lots of ghosting. I assume this is due to the memory heavy features of the codec.
However any file over 10 seconds will not be imported into FCP natively and a message reads final cut pro does not support this file type.
I overcame this by opening the clip in quicktime and then exporting again with exactly the same settings - this then reads in FCP - although this seems over the top
I now want to work with a 10 min finished comp in FCP but when I try to do this it picks up the ghosting that had appeared when playback in quicktime. However when rendered/ exported from the FCP timeline it retains the ghosting
in short I can burn a successful DVD of the footage as is from AE but it is not suitable to FCP.
I have tried exporting the clip in quicktime as quicktime DV pal but this retains the ghosting. Is this a hard ware problem or is my work flow wrong?
    thanks
    Paul

Converting from A to B means either a lossy conversion or a significant increase in storage requirements (up to 5x with DV as the starting point). You are best served with keeping conversions to a minimum.
    > cause this compressor doesn't like images
    What is that based on?
    > in several forums I have red that "automatik" inside of encore does often not work properly
This is in contradiction with the general feelings on this forum.

  • How to batch convert with After Effects CS3

I sure hope this isn't a super silly question!
I have never used After Effects as it came with my Adobe Master Suite and it's quite duanting to learn all of those programs at once. I'm trying to figure out how to convert several MPEG files to AVI using a batch convert process. It would seem to me that would be a pretty simple process and I've read in several locations that it can't be done with Premiere Pro any more. They also say it can be done in After Effects but they don't explain how.
I'm pretty new to video editing so layman's terms would be much appreciated. I'm running After Effects CS3 on Windows XP.

It can be done, but After Effects is far from being a specialized encoding application. A bit like using a ten ton truck to commute
In CS4, threre is such an specialized app. It's called Adobe Media Encoder, and it can be used in standalone mode or invoked from within Premiere Pro or AE.
Remember, After Effects is a content creation tool that offers multiple ways to render the content you create. But it's not an utility to convert or encode video formats.
If you really want to do this in AE, this could be a way:
Import all your MPEG files in the Project Panel.
Select them all (drag with your mouse or make Project panel active, then Control+A on Win or Command+A on Mac).
Drag them all to the New Comp button at the bottom of the project panel.
You will get a dialog which offers to place all these files in a single After Effects Composition, or create a separate Composition for each. Select the latter.
In the Project panel, select the resulting compositions and go to Composition > Add to Render Queue. Set each item to AVI format with your codec of choice.
Of course, there are a million variables that couldn't be discussed in a single post or thread.
As you can see, you are performing a lot of steps because After Effects is designed to render video once you have created content in the form of After Effects Compositions. In that context, these steps would not be "a lot" - you arrive there quite naturally.
I suggest you take a look at the After Effects Help chapter on Rendering and exporting

  • Problems importing DVD file in After Effects

I am having trouble importing a DVD file into After Effects. When I import it, it gets in but then when I click on it an error comes up. An error comes up everytime I click on it, and it's annoying. Is there any way to fix this? I am trying to work with a full movie in After Effects so I can make a short music video. I don't know what else to do.If it helps the movie file is about 2 hrs long.
Please, if you understand what I'm asking, or if you've been through the same thing- your reply will be very valuable!
    Thank you
    Seun

    Found the solution!
I found the answer on a post on http://Creativecow.net
    The link
    The post:
"...3. What ended up fixing it was by *not*  dragging the movie file to the new composition icon. Turns out my movie  had a strange frame rate of 14.985 instead of 15. Not sure why After  Effects interpreted my movie that way, I'm doing some unusual exports  because I'm working with screen capture software, so it's definitely not  a traditional workflow.
    4. So my solution was to create a composition from one of the AE presets  first and then tweak the settings slightly to match my movie  properties. Adding my movie clip to this composition gives me no errors  and we're good to go.
Strange solution, but it has worked. Now AE CS3 and I can be friends . . ."
Anyways, thank you guys for your replies!
