Corrupt files on Apple's web site?

I keep getting
"Error 1335. The cabinet file `iTunes.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."
from the iTunes installer. I have downloaded this about 10 times, directly from the link at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/, over the course of 2 days, from 2 different machines in different locations.
The machine I'm trying to install on is a brand new Windows XP Home machine with SP2 and all applicable updates applied.
Is it possible the file on Apple's server is corrupt?

Success! Here's what I did. I had tried many of hte things on the Installshield Tips and Pointers, to no avail. One of the things I did was to delete my Temp folder. Anyway, as I went down through the list I came to the "Update to the Latest InstallShield Installation Engines" section. I started the install as per instructions and looked for the Temp folder. Well, it wasn't there! It turned out to be under WINDOWS -> Downloaded Installations! I went there, determined that the Installshield major version number was 11, so I followed the instructions to download an install a new Installshield driver (which requires canceling the installation, so that the driver is not in use and can be deleted). After I did that I discovered that the install folder still existed, so I removed that as well.
Lo and behold, the install worked! I don't know whether installing the latest installshield driver fixed it, or whether removing the old install folder did it, but it worked. I would suggest others try both:
1. Delete any old install folders under C:\WINDOWS\Donwloaded Installations
2. Upgrade the Installshield engine as per http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
Thanks for all your help, b!!!!

  • Can't play VDO tutorials of Apple's web sites

I'm using Mac mini with Mac OS X 10.7.1 in school's proxy server. The port of proxy is 8080.
My problem is my mac can not play VDO tutorials of Apple's web sites,http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/#pages-hero (and other VDO of Apple).
Every attempt to play these VDO, there is a authorization pop-up asking for username and password of the proxy server. There is no VDO after filling it but soon another authorization pop-up again.
I called Apple technical support. He asked me go through Youtube and movie download from iTunes. All of those were OK. He concluded that the only problem is VDO streaming and send my case to his superior (senior advisor). Apple's senior advisor said that "probably" there is a problem with the setting of the server. The technical support team admitted that they are not familiar with networking.
I asked our IT, he suspected that my problems came from Mac software. He said that Windows PC use the same proxy port to view those VDO tutorials but Mac software change the port of VDO streaming from 8080 to 80 (they checked it). This is the first problem. So every attempt to play that VDO requires new authorization with user name and password. The second problem, Mac software would not accept the username and password that required by proxy server for the new port.  So, no matter how often I filled up username and password it won't work.
    Help, please.

I was having problems opening some downloads (using VUZE) using quicktime
Are you referring to "Vuze" the "torrent" app? If so, then what was the source and compression formats for the files you downloaded? While I would expect Apple files directly downloaded from the Apple site to be compatible with the QT player, files posted by other sources could be in any compression format and would either trigger the message you got, not play, or not even load to the player. The normal work flow in such situations is to determine what compression formats were used to encode the downloaded file and then install the same components if available for your system--not arbitrarily download QT components which have not useful function or which may create component conflicts.
Neither of which could I also get to open my downloads, so I deleted the file.
What file did you delete--the downloaded installer, the installed component, the QT Player, the video file you downloaded, or something else?
Now I can not play any of the videos on the Apple website.
How are you trying to view them? In a browser? Opening the file as a URL in the QT Player? As a downloaded file?
Quicktime is the diverted program but I have no idea what to do from here. Can anyone please please help me with this.
Have no idea what you are talking about here. Is this a setting in the Vuze software? If so, you need to go the Vuze forum to get more information.
I should add, I have sound when I play the tutorials. just no visual, and I get no message to download QT either.
Once again, how are you viewing the video? What compression formats are involved? If using the QT Player, what does the "Inspector" window or Finder "Info" window say about the file?

  • The movie trailers via AppleTV are not up-to-date with trailers on Apple's web site... why?

I love my Apple TV. I have no problems using it whatsoever. There's just this one issue.
The movie trailers I see on AppleTV are not up-to-date with the movie trailers on Apple's web site. I'm hoping there is a user tweek that would resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers,
    Adam

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I don't believe the trailers are from the same source, which would explain why they are not necessarily the same.

  • Firefox won't let me upload files to nearly any Web site, so how can I fix this issue?

Whether it is gmail, Facebook, or more specifically this site (http://www.carnivalentertainment.com/index.htm), Firefox won't let me upload any type of file. Of course, if the Web site offers a standard uploader then I have a better chance of having a successful upload, but if it is not offered, then I am basically out of luck.

Dmitri2217Did you notice that the post you are replying to is almost a year old?
Apple is not reporting any problems currently.

  • Unable to pickup/pull Oracle(.fmx files) forms in the web site.

    Hi all
We want to migrate from oracle 9i t0 10g. every thing is working fine, web page, forms, reports individually. But when oracle forms(.fmx) files included in the web page ,unable to pull/pickup the oracle forms files in the web page.
    I really appreciate your support
    Chaitanya

I'm with Andreas on this one - what exactly are you trying to accomplish? I see you are new to the Oracle Forums so I recommend you take a look at the following:
    <ul>
<li>Before posting on this forum please read
<li>10 Commandments for the OTN Forums Member
<li>Announcement: Forums Etiquette / Reward Points
    </ul>
Following these guidelines will make your posts more meaningful and help us help you! ;-)
I "think" you simply want instructions on how to take your Forms 6i application and migrate it to a web deployed Forms 10g application. Is this right? If so, there is a lot of things you need to do.
    <ul>
<li>First: Must have a Database server, Application Server and a Forms Services Server. These can all be on the same server or seperate
<li>Second: Your Forms 6i binaries (.fmb) must be converted to Forms 10g binaries (check out Using the Oracle Forms Migration Assistant
<li>Third: Your Forms 10g binaries will need to be compiled on your new server (mentioned first).
    </ul>
    Hope this helps,

  • I am unable to download files from a particular web site

I am a faculty member at a local college. I am able to open up blackboard and do certain interactions but when I need to download a file Firefox won't let me. It works fine in explorer.
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://

It seems that Blackboard is always at least a year behind in supporting the latest versions of Firefox, and some schools may not be using that latest version of their software. Look under Supported Browsers for the version of Firefox that is supported for the version of Vista or Campus Edition your school uses. That information should be posted at the bottom of most Blackboard / WebCT pages.
    http://www2.blackboard.com/tuneup/viewpage?name=tuneup_browser_tuneup_windows_firefox
Depending upon which version your school is using, you will have to use Firefox 3.0.x, 3.5.x, or Firefox 2.0.0.20 when accessing the Blackboard site.
My advice is to install the Firefox Portable version that you need for Blackboard on your computer, and use that installation only for Blackboard. Continue to use 3.6.x for all other web browsing. The Portable version won't affect the official version at all.
FP 3.0.x and 3.5.x versions are here:

    FP 2.0.0.20 is here:

  • Problem watching trailers in Apple Web Site only

    hi,
suddenly i have an odd prolbem in watching trailers at Apple's web site.
when im loading a trailer, it just indicating that the trailer is loaded and nothing happens, and the QuickTime Player is not even starting.
i have the latest version of quicktime, flash and shockwave and in other web sites i succeeded playing trailers , its only reproducing in apple site for some reason.
when i double Clicked on the bottom of the IExplorer to see Error messages,
i saw some quicktime error however i don't know if this error is related to the problem. the Error Message is : AC.Quicktime is null or not an object.
by the way, i don't think that this is the cause but im using Iexlporer 6 and not 7.
    waiting for your reply,
    A.T

Amir, I'm also having a similar problem with watching trailers on Apple's site. I've tried with many of them.
Clicking on the "Small" button under "Standard" plays the movie fine inside of the browser. Clicking "480p" under "HD" takes focus away from the browser after a few seconds (and I can see QuickTimePlayer.exe appearing in Task Manager), but then nothing happens. The process, after a bunch of initial activity, just sits at zero CPU, going up to 2% periodically, as if checking on something. The player window never appears.
Here's what is more strange: if I click on the same trailer link again, it somehow kicks QuickTimePlayer.exe in the butt and soon two players will appear, one for each time I clicked. I've even tried this with other trailers, and clicking on the second one is (so far) a sure way for the player to finally do something besides sit in memory.
I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 and QuickTime 7.6. I've tried with both Internet Explorer 6 and 7, and there's no difference in the behavior of the QuickTimePlayer. Other .mov files on the hard drive (like the sample.mov in the Program Files\QuickTime directory) play instantly. The QuickTime plug-in for IE still works for .mov files on other sites and other media (.aiff, etc.)... just not for the movies on Apple's own site
I haven't seen any warnings/errors, JavaScript is on, and I'm accepting the Active X notification on Apple's site.
    What is wrong, I wonder?

  • Can no longer view videos on Apple web site

I'd like to watch the new iPad videos on Apple's web site but my iMac no longer loads them. I can view You Tube videos, movies, Quicktime etc. But on the Apple web site the video never loads. Any ideas why this might be? OSX 10.7.3 3.06 GHz Core Duo, 4G RAM.

The following only applies to those running Tiger or Leopard:
If you are experiencing trouble viewing QuickTime movies with QuickTime Player or the QuickTime browser-plug-in follow the steps in the link below to ensure that QuickTime is properly installed on your Mac
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/
If you having problems watching WWDC Keynotes, tutorials or Trailers on the Apple website, check your Quicktime Player 7 settings in System Preferences:
Under Streaming, set for Automatic, enable Instant On and Play Immediately.
Under Advanced, click Mime Settings and ensure that Streaming (both kinds) are enabled.
Note that if you are running Snow Leopard you should be using Quicktime Player 7 and not Quicktime 10. Snow Leopard does not have a QuickTime System Preference pane. No MIME Settings options. No streaming settings. If a User has migrated from 10.5.8 then those settings have moved over (but no changes can be made). QuickTime Player 7 is in your Applications/Utilities folder (if you've got it installed). If not you can install it from the Snow Leopard DVD (Optional Installs).

  • Where are the iWeb files held in relation to your Web Site?

Having had various problems with my computer I have had to reformat hard drive 1 and rebuild all the apps. Hopefully I still have all my data on another drive that I can bring in to some of the apps.
So I had to reload iWeb and of course the website I previously created is not seen y the new version.
Q1. - Where would all the files relating to the Web site have been stored (hopefully I can copy them back to the main drive)
Q2. If I can't find them, is there any way of reconstructing the website on my computer from the copy published to Mobile Me?
    Thanks
    Douglas

I guess you want to keep your domain file on a separate drive.
As you probably know the application stores your website data in a domain file. The default location is Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Its essential the you keep and up to date backup of this file.
Create a folder and paste a copy of your domain file(s) into it. Put a copy of this folder into your Home folder and also onto an external drive. Store it anywhere you want.
Instead of launching iWeb from the application, go to the folder on the external drive and double click the domain file.
This will launch iWeb and, when you save and quit, the changes will be reflected in the domain file in the folder and not the one in the default location.

  • Apple Customer Relations number - Removed from Web Site

Incidentally, they have archives of Apple's web site dating back all the way to 1996. (gotta love archive.org!)
    Golan.

WOW...that is interesting Golan. You might think that they do read these forums and are anticipating 5/20!! LOL! I'm not impressed with Apple thus far. Why would they revert to "Dell like" tactics to try and silence their livelihood...the customer?? I am a new mac user and have built 7 or 8 windoze PC's over the last few years. One of the reasons I "switched" was b/c of their great "customer service" and support...of course for a price, but I don't know if I'll purchase that "apple care" if they are going to start deleting phone numbers to contact them. Besides, these issues have been around for many months now and Apple has still not addressed them. Apple..."go out and do the right thing" (Dr. Laura Schlesinger...LOL). Good stuff.

  • Safari 1.3.2 Not Accessing Some Secure Web Sites Including This One

Operating system is 10.3.9 running Safari 1.3.2 and today I couldn't access American Express or Apple Discussions web site. I had a lock up yesterday that forced me to do a hard reset. Funny thing is, Safari otherwise is running fine other than not accessing secure sites that I accessed just fine yesterday. FWIW, I am entering this info from a PC not my Mac...Any Ideas.

    Hi Richard!
It's probably a corrupt Cache or Cookie item.
Do you know your user names & passwords for sites that require them?
If so, open Safari Preferences > Security.
    Click on Show Cookies.
    Click on Remove All.
    Click on Done.
If you do not know your user name & PWs for sites, you will have to individually click on the cookies for the ones that are not opening, and delete them one by one.
Then from the Safari contextual menu, select Empty Cache.
    Click on Empty.
    Good Luck!
