Corrupt Flash CC File

Something crazy happened one day and Flash CC stopped working.  Not sure if related, but Creative Cloud wouldn't load either.  The installation team helped get Creative Cloud working, so I updated Flash and it finally opened, although glitchy.  Playing with the menu, I changed the Workspace settings which finally seemed to kick Flash into working again.  Now everything seems okay except...
...the file I was originally working on won't open anymore.  It says "An error occurred opening file: ..."
I know this was a known issue with CS6, but I can't find any solutions for saving a CC file.  The zipping thing isn't working (neither Explorer nor winRar will open the renamed file).  The AppData thing isn't working either (no tmp file in folder).  I was about to decompile the swf, but my trial of SoThink ran out, and I paid for the program but my registration won't go through!  I contacted their support but no word yet.  So anyway, I'm here asking for help on saving this file.. (because really.. in an ideal world, I shouldn't need to buy external programs to salvage it...)...
Thank you for any help!
UPDATE:
Finally got SoThink Decompiler to work (had to turn off firewall).  But it creates a .fla with all the code bits as externally loaded files, including a separate file for every every "stop();"
So I'm looking at re-coding the entire game from scratch either way... Unless anyone has any ideas?

Hi there,
Can you check if your PublishSettings.xml within the fla/xfl file (you need to mark the flas as zip/rar and then inspect) has a multiple duplicate publish profile entries and if the size is greater than 100kb?
Also have you update to 13.1.0.217?
You can also check the technote on:

  • Flash fla files corrupted by CVS

    Hi,
I have saved my Flash fla files with Eclipse CVS and some where on the way, I set their ASCII\BINARY value to ASCII and now my files are totally corrupted.
Does anyone know of a way to fix fla files that were saved as ASCII in CVS?
    Thanks for your help.

Well, I'm not quite sure what kind of cards am I using. The SD card is a common one, one of those you use for digital cameras. It's a 2GB SanDisk, quite new. The flash drive is an 8GB Data Traveler...
And, yes - the AVIs are quite big (biggest one is around 700MB, and they're about 5 or 6 with 500MB)
Anyway, I'm totally sure the files are extremely corrupted because I didn't save them on a HD... I've tried in VLC, DivX... They simply wont open the files (I mean, I don't get soundless blank screens or other kind of synthom you usually read in AVI help threads). I even went to my university's media lab and one of the teachers told me that I did wrong when I transferred the files directly from the SD card to the flash drive, without saving them on a hard disk first.
The camera isn't the cause of the problems, because yesterday I've made new videos with it and I emptyed the SD card directly to my own Mac with no problems on those AVIs at all.
In addition to all this, the flash drive presented life signs at the media lab's iMac -- the archive containing the AVI files turned unrecognizable (had that icon like a black card with green "exec" letters); when we opened it on a Windows, a lot of archives appeared and their names were in constant change.
Worst of all is that I've already format the SD card twice ^_^" (I didn't know the AVIs were corrupted - I just thought I needed QT Pro). All my hopes are relying on the flash drive.
Today I've tried recovering the flash drive's files with Data Rescue and StellarPhoenix software (all of them very limited demos) but it was all useless.
Sorry for the word labyrinth; thanks for your help..

  • Flash 'Unexpected File Format' Save corruption

    Hello.
We recently upgraded to Windows 7 64Bit from Windows XP here at work, and since the upgrade i've discovered a very scary issue with Flash.
When going to save one of my large projects, often Adobe simply crashes outright, freezing up and displaying a standard error message.
"Adobe Flash CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." - with an option for "Close program"
I hit close program, and Flash disappears. If I try and open that same FLA file again, I get the error message
    "Unexpected File Format"
Unfortunately it seems since Flash is crashing in the middle of saving, it is corrupting my FLA file. This is extremely worrying, since it corrupts my entire source file.
I'm lucky I keep regular backups, otherwise I could have lost months of work instead of just todays. In the meantime I have been copying and pasting a new version of the file each time I open Flash, but it's a crapshoot whether next time I save if it will kill it or not.
Here's the details of my computer:
OS: Windows 7 - Recently upgraded from 32bit Windows XP
    64 Bit Intel Xeon X5560 @ 2.80 Ghz
    4GB Ram
The Flash CS5 version is 11.0.0.485
The FLA in question is 10MB, and contains some large map files (gifs), lots of small JPG's as well as a fair chunk of code as well as importing of external classes. I've tried replicating the issue on smaller files, and haven't been able to do so.
I was wondering if it was a case of not enough memory, but Flash appears to use around 450 mbs. About 40% of my total memory is free, according to the Task Manager performance.
Any ideas what could fix this issue?

    Hello Sukhi12,
I just read your reply and I can't believe that Adobe is taking a stand like this!
Are you seriously (no really, SERIOUSLY?!?) telling us that Flash is not designed to save files over a network?!?!?
I am really upset by the fact that Flash is such a badly designed product and I'm even more upset by the fact that appearently Adobe doesn't give a ***** about it!
Are you aware that in the modern world EVERY company has a policy to save files over a network? For most developers it's not a choice of saving locally, it's just not an option. We are forced to use networkdrives, and if I may say so, I totally agree we should! Come on Adobe, this is 2011 you know! And saying in your technote (from 2009!) that we just have to use a third-party version control system is totally rediculous!
A few things that I like to say about this matter:
    1) I have been using Flash for about 10 years now. I have been using a network drive most of this time and I never (really, never!) experienced corrupt files while saving. Even with flash 5 there was no problem at all! So something changed with Flash CS5 and Flash CS5.5 and Adobe is too lazy to admit it. Very bad....
    2) Why is it that software like Photoshop is able to save over a network without any problems? Why is a PSD-file so much different from a FLA-file? Surely Adobe must have people on the payroll that are perfectly able to code software that can save over a network? Photoshop proves it's possible, doesn't it?
    3) I told you in the beginning of this forumpost that I'm saving my files over a network. Why didn't you show us the technote at that point? Why did you ask me to send you sourcefiles first? Is there some boss that told you to get rid of those nasty questions, or something?
    4) I'm really surprised that the technote says that Flash IDE is not "designed" to function across LANs. Why is this not mentioned on the Flash Product Page where you want us to pay $699 for this product? I would really like to know this as a new customer! Something in the features like: "Beware, unlike other software, Flash Professional is NOT ABLE to save your files across LANs. If you try to save, flash will most definately corrupt your files beyond repair".
    5) As you can see, I am really upset about this and especially about the attitude Adobe is displaying about this. I'm am surely going to twitter this to everyone I know and start a good amount of posts in the Flash Community about this. You really can't do this, Adobe.
You might not suspect this, but I am actually a big fan of Flash, as I suspect most of you are. I like to think that I support Flash despite the fact that Apple is pissing all over it lately. I defend it to people by saying it's a wonderfull product that does wonderfull things. I am very dissapointed that Adobe is letting us down like this.
Please answer these question for us. I'm sure the Flashcommunity is dying to know what's going on here!
And also, please ask your developers to fix this annoying problem. I'm sure it's not impossible....
    Regards,
    Sander

  • What does it mean when my screen just flashes a file folder with a question mark?

I just did software update and now my screen flashes a file folder with a question mark in the middle???

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • Export Flash 8 file - strange conversion behaviour. Please Help.

    Equipment:
I have CreativeSuite CS2 and Macromedia Studio 8 loaded on Tiger 10.4.11 on two computers; an iMac Intel Core Duo 2.8GHz which is the main tool, and an upgraded G4 450 DP which uses a Dual G4 Sonnet Encore 1.8Ghz (7447A chips) as back-up. Both computers have use Tiger 10.4.11 OS.
    Problem 1:
A .swf Flash file is exported and saved on the iMac without any problems. However when the same file is transferred to the G4 as back-up, the file undergoes a change wherebye the icon looks like a 35mm filmstrip and sports the Illustrator CS2 yellow flower. Double clicking the .swf file opens Illustrator CS2 which, unsurprisingly, tells me it cannot open the unknown file type (.swf). Flash 9 Reader is loaded as is Flash 8 application. Flash fails to open the converted file on the G4!
    Problem 2:
As a work-around, I open the movie artwork file on the iMac, export the movie as a QuickTime.mov. A dialogue box opens telling me the installed version of QuickTime does not support the installed version of Flash and I should open Publish Settings in Flash and save as Flash 5 file. I do this. I export the file and again am presented with the same message! Every Quick Time export attempt has failed either on the Intel Core Duo or on the G4.
    Two Questions:
    1. Why is the original .swf filed changed to an illustrator file on the G4 and how can I retain it as the Flash file?
    2. What is the problem that prevents ProQuickTime version 7.6.4 (518.35), recognising the Flash 5 export conversion process?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Praise be to Lord above! I have fixed it! And because I'm a nice guy and wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same frustration - I'm going to tell you how...
It was a problem with the registry that was causing the issue and funny old thing - uniblue's 'Registry Booster' solved the issue. It's ironic that software from the same company was used to solve the problem I know...I had almost decided to uninstall all uniblue products, but decided to run one last scan with registry booster to see what happened....So just to sum up, this is how to solve the above issue:
    1. Re-create/rebuild your library as detailed in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 or replace itunes folder with backup. Delete any corrupted/damaged files.
This alone should solve many issues but if you keep getting repeated corruption problems like I did then the problem seems to be within the REGISTRY.
    2. To solve the registry error - I ran uniblue's 'Registry Booster' programme. I have no idea how to fix the registry manually. Sorry.

  • Can't save Flash CS5 files

Hi, I can't save my Flash CS5 files. I click file, save as, then appears a gray window with a menu drop down but I can't find any folder to save the file...I've tried to upload a screen shot but when I try to upload the picture the very same gray window appears and I can't do anything...Anyone could give me a hand? When I use other Adobe programs as After effects and Premiere everything works perfectly...!

    Hi Greg,
Thanks for emailing me your FLA file so we could investigate.  It looks like one of your assets is corrupted.  This file crashes even in Flash CS4 when I drag sparks.jpg to the stage.
Flash CS5 crashes more quickly because it tries to validate this asset on save but can't because that asset is corrupted.  If you remove sparks.jpg from the library, you can save the file in Flash CS5.
    Thanks,

  • How can I script a Flash .exe file to always stay on top of all other windows?

    Hi All,
I'm new to action script, and I just need this one script
    > How can I script a Flash .exe file to always stay on top of

Basically what i want to do is have a flash-created
step-by-step instructional movie, but for the movie to remain on
top of all windows so the instructee is able to follow the
    instructions on-screen...
It would be preferable to not have to buy another product

  • Adobe Bridge Corrupts Canon CR2 files

Viewing Canon CR2 RAW files from a Canon EOS 7D or Canon EOS 40D camera will corrupt some images. After Adobe Bridge creates a
thumbnail of the CR2 files, some images previews will show the file with corruption (large white square or discolored areas). The CR2 file then
becomes corrupt. The file is not corrupt prior to viewing in bridge, but it becomes corrupt after viewing in bridge. The file is corrupt because it can
no longer be processed with any other RAW conversion program including ACR, DPP, or BreezeBrowser. If the file is marked as read only before viewing in bridge, the image preview shows corrupt in Bridge but the file remains intact and can be processed with Canon's DPP software. This issue first occured with CS4 and the ACR 5.5 update. The problem seemed to be less prevalent with the ACR 5.7 update. However after upgrading to CS5 this problem is back and worse than ever.
When doing a detailed file compare between a corrupted version of a CR2 file and  a copy of the same file before the corruption occurs it appears as if metadata has been written to the wrong part of the file (middle) instead of the beginning (header).
    Operating System: Windows 7

I am trying to fix this problem as well.
    In my case, I've got Windows 7 (32-bit), CS5, and a Canon 50D.
I've got photos that I can view perfectly in Canon's Digital Photo Professional, but the SAME photo in the SAME directory opens corrupted in Bridge.
    Here's an interesting wrinkle:
    Scenarios:
(fyi - all my CR2 images are pulled off the CF card using Bridge's loader)
CR2 Image opened in Canon's Digital Photo Professional:  Opens Fine.
CR2 Image opened in Photoshop directly (skipping Bridge):  Opens Fine.  (opens in Camera Raw first, of course, but still Fine)
CR2 Image 'browsed to' in Bridge:  Corrupted pinky/yellow/white.
CR2 Image double-clicked in Bridge, opens in Camera Raw:  Corrupted pinky/yellow/white.
    Bridge closed.
CR2 image opened in Photoshop directly again.  Pay attention... opens 1st in Camera Raw: Corrupted, but for only five seconds! It refreshes on its own and now is Fine!  Click Open Image into Photoshop and it Opens Fine again.
It's clear to me Bridge/Adobe something is corrupting these images.
It seems sometimes that the corruption becomes permanent, and even Canon's Digital Photo Professional shows a corrupted image.  In the scenarios and order mentioned above, the CR2 file remains openable fine in Digital Photo Professional.  So, why other images I have cannot open well in Digital Photo Professional, I do not know -- perhaps the order I clicked things caused Bridge to update the CR2 file?
I'm in the process of updating all CS5 software to the latest, in case I'm missing some updates.  If anything improves as a result, I'll update here.

  • Mailed PDF files arrive on Windows platform as corrupt Windows Media files

Recently I mailed some .pdf files to 3 of the Windows machines on our network. Each of them reported that when attempting to open the .pdf file on the Windows machine, their system tried to use Windows Media instead of Adobe Reader. Of course they received an error message. When they saved the .pdf files on their machines, the files opened correctly in Adobe Reader.
These are files that I downloaded from the State of Oregon. After we had problems there, I mailed them some of the .pdf files I had created. Same results. The Windows machine treats them as corrupt Windows Media files.
I am the only Mac in our company. Of course the problem must be mine!?!
I am using MS Entourage as my mail client.
    Suggestions? Comments? Answers?
    Thanks!!

    Kappy,
No problem! Your suggestions were what made me consider the extension option in Entourage's preferences. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
Your suggestion also prompted me to try the same thing using Mail. Mail worked just fine, so the problem is in how Entourage handles the .pdf file being sent to a Windows computer where it will be opened either in Outlook or Internet Explorer.
It seems that Somewhere along the line, the .pdf extension is being changed to a .png extension which triggers the launch of Windows Media Browser.
I just rebuilt the Entourage database and I'll see what happens now.

I have read the forum link and other such entries in this forum. I have found the following:

Could'nt find the app or the official site
    2.) a few projects on sourceforge.org :

    3.) SWT Flash integration.
I do not find any of these solutions satisfactory.except the SWT/Flash integration which I havent tried.
My question is that isnt there an easier and simpler way to :
