Corrupt Helvetica Italic font

I have a corrupt Helvetica Italic font (Helvetica non-italic is fine). I reinstalled the OS and updated it - no change. Anyone have a fix?
I'm running 10.4.5.

  • Serif italic fonts display as script

In Firefox 7, web sites which have some text styled as serif italic display as a strange script. A good example is the recipe site URL below but the problem occurs on most Wikipedia pages as well.
I am including a screen shot of the recipe page in the troubleshooting section so you can see how the recipe page displays for me.

You can do a check for corrupted and duplicate fonts and other font issues:

  • Helvetica regular font CS6 Yosemite non-functional

I have two Mac computers, both using Yosemite and CS6 suites and the Helvetica regular font on both of them is non-functional at this time.  The font will work on other applications like Word, and even show up under the menus on CS6 programs, but when you select Helvetica regular you get an error.  If an old file uses the Helvetica regular font, the file won't print or even save until the font is replaced with another font.  The font checks out as ok in the font book program.  The other Helvetica variations like Light, bold, etc. work fine.  As far as i have been able to discover, all of the other fonts work as well.  Both computers work identically, so I can't imagine the font file is corrupted...
    Any suggestions?

    kitcmac,
Is it a free Helvetica font or something, or is it the genuine one from Linotype?
In the former case, you may be out of luck: Illy is particularly particular about the quality of fonts, because she can work with them at a deeper/higher level than most, so you can easily have a font that works in all other applications, but Illy refuses to recognize it as a font.
Some failing fonts discussed in earlier threads have turned out to have rather basic flaws, such as redundant, superfluous, or (if I remember rightly) even stray points, or other clear errors in the paths that they consist of.
If it is a free one, you may need to get the real thing or look for similar fonts that Illy is willing to work with.

  • Helvetica regular font missing in Photoshop CS3, but not in CS5 on the same computer

I have both Photoshop CS3 and CS5 installed on a Windows 7 64-bit system.  Photoshop CS5 has two Helvetica fonts: one TrueType and one Type 1.  The TT version only offers italic and bold italic styles.  The T1 font offers the full suite of bold, italic, bold italic (or oblique), and medium (or regular).  This seems odd, but it's sufficient.  Photoshop CS3, on the same computer, only offers me the Helvetica TT font, with just the two styles mentioned above.  Why can't CS3 see the T1 Helvetica?  Why does the TT Helvetica only show me two styles?  In case it's relevant, I believe the Type 1 version is the only one I deliberately installed, and I recently upgraded to a 2010 version of the font made available by Adobe (to resolve another issue with Microsoft Word 2010).
    Thanks in advance!

There is by default no Helvetica on PCs. Wherever those fonts come from, is some place else. Either another program installed them or you bought the font fron Linotype. The latetr is doubtful, of course, in light of what you stated. Aside from that you may wish to check your Adobe font directory (C:\Programm Files\Common Fiels\Adobe\Fonts) vs. your system font directory. For CS3 this would be relevant. Typefaces not showing up usualyl means that multiple fonts occupy the same name or the font system can't figure out things for otehr reasons...

  • How can I persuade Mail to accept an Italic font as a default. I need to click on each message page to get Italics

When I choose an Italic font in Mail preferences, I find I need to re select the same font after I have opened Mail messages.
I would like to use a font other than Helvetica and not have to select Italics every time I use Mail.
The same goes for making an INDENT a permanent default feature, this will prevent printed items being too near the LHS.
    best wishes to all
    BJM.

    Is this an IMAP account?
If so, delete the messages in Mail from all folders and quit Mail.
Go the the website and clear the messages from all folders there.
Reopen Mail and verify the messages have been deleted for all folders.

  • Euclid Symbol Bold and Italic fonts not working in Indesign CS5

Hi I created some Maths Text books about 5 years ago in an older Adobe Indesign program. I now have to re-edit the files using Indesign CS5.
The Euclid Symbol Bold and Italic fonts i used back in 2005 now do not display in Indesign 5 when i open up the program. The other Euclid Symbol Fonts do. I think that they are all truefonts.
    I have attached an example.
I am using a Mac running OSX 10.6.8.
http://www.dessci.com/en/support/mathtype/tsn/tsn109.htm    <-- this is an error log from 'MathType' the guys who created the font - yet unsure what this actually means for me

  • Italic font on mac os 10.3.9 (panther)

Our application uses a customized table cell renderer to show italic fonts for non-ediable rows.
It works fine on Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger), but not on 10.3.9 (Panther). The renderer just shows plain text for the rows, rather than Italic.
I have found this hint on the web:
    http://javatechniques.com/public/java/docs/gui/panther-font-problem.html
Unfortunately, it doesn't help in my case. I don't have Office installed on my Mac and my ~/Library/Fonts directory is empty.
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

Couldn't get an answer so i gave up on it and did a search on the Yahoo website and someone had an answer. Thanks Apple for your help.

  • Can I make a non-italic font italic with indesign.

I have a client who insists I can take a font they want me to use that does not come in italic and make it italic? I think I remember you used to be able to do this in quark but is there some way to do it in indesign?

To expand on Peter's responses ...
You can oblique text as he describes, however, that does not make a true italic style. It is only a “slanted” version of the orignal style. A number of san serif font families have oblique styles instead of true italic styles where such slanted (“obliqued”) version of typefaces are provided as part of the font family although in many such cases, the font style is still labelled (or maybe better put, mislabelled) as “italic” as opposed to “oblique.” This hackery is much less common for serif font families.
A true italic font actually have a different design that the underlying “normal” / “regular” style. Typically, these differences are most pronounced in a lower case “a” or “g” for example.
You may want to point this out to your client, contrasting text rendered with the artifically obliqued font with that rendered with a true italic font in a similar font family. They may or may not actually care, but at least they won't complain about it afterwards.

  • Myriad Roman/Italic - font licensing issue?

    Dear all,
I'm asking your help regarding a small issue with the Myriad Roman and Myriad Italic font.
Today I opened an "old" document I created in a previous Illustrator version (CS 6). But when I wanted to save it into a pdf file, a bad message told me some parts of the file can't be saved due to font restriction: The font Myriad-Roman could not be embedded in the PDF document because of licensing restrictions. Stroke text will not be visible.
How can I manage this? I have a lot of documents with Myriad Roman or Italic in it, so this is very disturbing for me right now... :-/
Thanks in advance fo your help

The fact that you freely “downloaded” these fonts makes this all very suspicious.
Yes, you can replace these Myriad typefaces with the equivalent Myriad Pro OpenType typefaces, some of which were bundled with CS6 and earlier software. The investment in terms of modifying your content is relatively low if you have used styles appropriately and even if not, Illustrator will prompt you if a font is missing and let you globally replace (you would of course, remove those crufty, possibly hacked old Myriad typefaces first). If you don't have access to those previously bundled, the cost of getting a license for them in both $ and time is quite low compared to other alternatives.

  • Can we write in Italic font on to the screen by using the WRITE Statement

    Hello Abappers,
Can we write in Italic font on to the screen by using the WRITE Statement.
    Please reply.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
    >Sandeep Wrote:
If you have the codepage for Italian language installed in your machine , you can write the same.
The OP is asking about italic font not about the language.
You need to upload font files ITALICI.TTF. Go to SE73 . Click on Install True type font and upload the italic file on to your system.
    Check Font Attribute Italic
We already have help files on this. Refer:

I don't have idea on write statement in ABAP reports. Hope it cannot be.

  • Embedded italic font using faux italic

I'm experiencing an issue while trying to create an embedded italic font using DefineFont 4. My problem is the font I'm targetting doesn't include an italic variation. Is there a way to create an italic (or bold for that matter) font using faux italic?
    Something like:
    Embed(source='../font_src/myFont.ttf', fontName='_MyFont', cff='true', fontStyle='fauxItalic')]
    public static var _font:Class;
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Disclaimer: I am just guessing on all of this since I have never used that font and I am still on Mac OS 10.5.8.
Are you really on Mac OS 10.6.6? I think I read here that there were some font issues that were fixed with 10.6.7 or an update that came after it. Try downloading the updater and see what that does. Next I would try the font in Pages if you have it. If you don't, try it in TextEdit and see if it works there.
If neither of these work, try to delete the Keynote Preferences to see if there was something there that was messing with the font. You can find it in the folder Macintosh HD>Users>your username>Library>Preferences and the file is called com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist.
