Corrupt iPod but can't restore

Hey guys,
My 5th gen. 30 gig iPod will not sync at all. I connect it and I get a message saying that my iPod is corrupt and needs to be restored. I press restore and it starts to restore it but about 5 - 10 seconds into it I get a message saying that it cannot be restored. Is there anything I can do? I can still cahrege it and listen to music but I just can't sync it. Thanks

Hi I had the same problem... I used my friends computer with an older itunes to try it and it worked. I think there is a compatibility issue with the most recent itunes and the fifth generation ipod

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

Have you tried resetting your iPod while connected? Then, unplug it, and connect it again.
Have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer again?

  • "corrupted" iPod -how can I save my music

It seems that my 15 month old iPod (sod's law its just out of warantee) is corrupted. It will play the first 20s of some tunes, all of others and some not at all. I've just battled to get my computer to see it it for about an hour and finally i get the message that i need to restore the factory settings. however my computer is a laptop and old and only has 1Gb free space but I have 15Gb music on my 40Gb iPod. does anyone know a simple way of trying to save all my lovely music. I can't access it at all using iTunes so I can't copy and paste it to CD for eg.
    is all lost??
    Thanks

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Computer/iTunes doesn't recognize iPod.  Can't restore either

Somehow, between syncing my iPod (classic, fifth generation)with iTunes and downloaded latest version of iTunes, my pod self-destructed. I got a brief message to "restore" but since the computer or iTunes doesn't seem to recognize the iPod, I can't do it. I am no longer getting the message. I can't find the iPod in Windows Explorer or Device Manager. When I plug the iPod into the computer, all I get is a completely white screen and an occasional beep-beep. Can I take it to a retailer and have it restored?

  • Want to use iphone 4s as ipod but can't get past activation

My brother sent his iPhone 4s in to have a replacement.  When he got the new one back he never used it and he closed his account with ATT.  He has a work phone that is paid for him now and doesn't need it.  I asked him if he'd send it to me to use.  I wanted to use it as an iPod, but I can't get past the activation.  I'm being told by the phone that I need a sim card to activate it but I don't have a sim and I have phone service already so I don't need to go get it turned on.  It's a perfect little piece of equipment that I'd love to use but I can't.  Can anyone please help me?

USING AN IPHONE AS AN IPOD
Restore your phone as new.  Place a SIM card into the phone and connect it your computer with iTunes open and follow the activation assistant to activate the iphone.  Once the iphone have been activated remove the SIM card and turn on imessage in settings/messages.  Only your Apple ID should appear in the “You can be reached by imessage at” and “Start new conversation from” fields.  Read the following article for help http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406

  • Can't download songs to ipod and can't restore it

This morning my new 30 GB ipod (it has 3 weeks and only used ir a few times)was working fine with itunes installed on my Dell Inspiron 600m running on Windows XP. When I triend to dowload new songs to it I got this message:"Attempting to Copy to the Disk Jovi's Ipod Failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)." I tried to reset the ipod and got a file with an exclamation symbol and under it www.apple.com/support/ipod. Since then itunes and ipod updater fail to recognize the ipod. I installed the newer versions of both programs and every time a try to run the ipod updater it has a message that says "service error" so I can't restore it either. I reinstalled both programs' previous versions then, but they still don't recongize the ipod.I also restarted my computer and tried another USB, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone suggest another thing to do before I give up? Should I change it or send it for repair? I don'trust on that last one.

I found out how to restore the ipod. Follow instructions to reset the ipod. When the apple logo appears, press center button and play/pause button at the same time until you see a green checkmark. At this stage the ipod is on "disk mode". Then run the ipod updater. It takes some time to initialize but it works. You can restore your ipod but you'll miss everithing you have downloaded on it. Once restored, itunes recognizes your ipod again. I still can't download all my music files to the ipod. I keep getting that unknown error (-69) message.

  • My iPod Shuffle can't restore on iTunes.

When I plug it into the PC the orange light starts flashing and it shows up on iTunes, it tells me to restore my iPod, but when I try to restore it comes up as an ''Error 2005''. I've tried all the different USB ports on my PC and tried uninstalling iTunes and nothing has worked.

    Hey Drsockmonster,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
This article has some more steps to try for the error code you are getting.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#2000
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. What do you do when you buy a new computer or have a new hard drive?  Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

See this article for details: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Make sure your Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your MacBook.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Do I need a different apple id for each device? I have two iPads and an iPod but can only purchase things on the first one. When I go to verify the questions they say they are wrong.

Do I need a different apple ID for each device I have? I have two iPads and an iPod but I can only make purchases with the first one I purchased. It tells me the security questions are wrong but I know they are not because I wrote them down. I have also reset them and my password once. Please help if you can

You can not login into iTunes or the App Store using VPP credentials. You must purchase all apps/book/etc.  from the VPP website. Then you can redeem the codes thru itunes/app store or import the codes thru apple configurator. Here is the url for the VPP website: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/login?cc=us
(It will not affect any of the apps you already have but the id can only be used for VPP.)

  • ITunes recognizes iPod but can't sync - driver missing?

Here's the rundown. Several months ago, the complete content of the old XP machine where this iPod's library resided was migrated to a Windows 7 Home Premium system using LapLink PC Mover.  iTunes had never previously been installed on the Windows 7 unit.  iTunes appeared to be functional afterwards, but on the first and all subsequent instances of attempting to sync the iPod, clicking on the Sync button did and still does nothing.  I have tried connecting the iPod to multiple different motherboard-based and pcie-based USB ports, and to a USB2.0 external hub. (Sometimes the screen briefly flashes as though it was switching to the sync process monitor, but usually it's just no change.)  I've tried uninstalling all of the Apple software from the machine, rebooting, and reinstalling.  (When I say "all", that includes iTunes itself, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update, in that order.  Trying any other order produced complaints.  Quicktime is not installed on this machine; iTunes and the iPod are not used for video.)  In looking at the postings of others who have had similar issues, I found a recommendation to reinstall another driver that I have verified is not loading and is not running with the iPod hooked up:  Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.  I have tried to reinstall this driver, but it hasn't worked.  What I have come to suspect is that something in the Windows registry got borked during the transfer, and is causing the load process for the *needed* driver to fail, possibly by trying to load the old XP version.  But my registry-fu is not strong in this, so I'm looking to see if anyone else has run across this issue previously and found a solution.
    Points to note:
Windows 7, installation was a port from XP via LapLink PCMover
5th gen classic iPod 80Gb with 34Gb free
iTunes version 11.4.0.18 is installed  (This was the current version when I started trying to find the problem.)
Apple Mobile Device Support software is loaded.
Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is NOT loading, either before or while the iPod is connected.
In Device Manager, the iPod appears as a Disk Drive and as a Portable Device when connected, but does not appear in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list.
iTunes recognizes the iPod and can access it sufficiently to verify that it does not need to be updated.
    iTunes can eject the iPod.
    iTunes cannot sync the iPod.

I can now expand the information somewhat.  On my second, very similar setup (5th gen Classic connected to Win 7/32 with iTunes 11.4.0.18) I was able to successfully do the initial sync of the iPod several weeks ago, but this afternoon, when I tried to sync it to include the music I had added recently, it failed in the same manner as the other system.  I really, really, really DO NOT want to downgrade to iTunes 12 with it's horrible antinavigation interface and lack of the very useful and needed Sidebar, but it is beginning to look like 11.4.0.18 is problematic, and I don't have an installer for anything else at present.

  • Hi, just updated hubby's iPhone 4 and all of his music has disappeared from the iPhone and from the iTunes library! He does have music still stored on his iPod, but can't get it from the library on his iPod back to phone or itunes. technophobe help pls!

and all of his music has disappeared from the iPhone and from the iTunes library! Luckily he does have music still stored on his iPod, but I can't get it from the library on his iPod back to the phone or to itunes. Please help, but technophobe so put it in simple english please!

Sounds like the music you had on your phone was not the same music on his computer. The iPhone/iPod touch is not designed to be a storage device. When you sync with a computer that doesn't have your music, it deletes your music from your phone.
Was this music you purchased from iTunes? if so, and you are in the US, tap on itunes app, tap updates, tap purchased and tap on the cloud icon to get each song back. If you're not int he us, get iOS5 update later this week and do the same.
But you need to move your itunes library to his computer. Create a user account on his macbook pro for you. From your external drive backup, load your itunes library on it. Then sync as usual! (Don't tell me you don't have a backup for your computer!)

  • I synced music from ipod but can't find it?

  • Can sync video to ipod, but can't see it play

When I sync a podcast to itunes, it syncs into my ipod, but when I go to the ipod menu to play it, nothing happens. It is a MPEG4 file and you can see the name in the podcast directory, but when you select it, its blank. No video or sound.
    What gives?
    Thanks.

I think your keyfigure is a "Reference key figure", It is refering to another key figure. Check the keyfigure infoobject. You can create a new key figure (copy of reference key figure) and use it in DSO.
If it is a characterstic, then check whether "attribute only" flag is checked in the infoobject. Uncheck the flag and then it will come in the transformation.

  • Ipod corrupted; Itunes 7 can't restore

Lo All, love the Ipod Mini, apart from the battery bugs, but I've had an enormous problem with my Ipod; it's corrupted. Also, to make things worse, my PC rarely picks the Ipod up as connected and, the one time it has, I've attempted to restore it, and Itunes comes up with an error message. Something like "Ipod; Ipod resource cannot be read" or something akin to that
Anyone got any suggestions? I'd love it if I could get this fixed without having to open it up; but if I have to I'll need a guide on it, as I don't have an Ipod replacement battery Kit
    Thanks!

    Is this any help?
