Corrupt iPod classic fix (somewhat risky)

I have an 80gb iPod (video) classic. I responded to a few posts, but felt that this will save a lot of heartache. I'm too attached to my iPod and don't have the $ to shell out for another large HDD iPod.
I went through a lot of trial and error to fix mine but found that this method worked great.
1. Press and hold select and menu to reset.
2. When the apple comes up, press select and play to put the iPod in disk mode.
3. Plug iPod in and make sure iTunes recognizes it. It will still give you an error but ignore it.
4. Find out what the iPod drive name is. Mine is G: so be careful what you put in because this will completely format any drive you type in.
Open up CMD from the run or start menu. Type in:
Format G: /FS:FAT32.
(Remember to replace G: with whatever drive your iPod is.)
Then hit enter. It may take a while. This will start the iPod format.
5. When that is finished, you will get an error that says something like the drive is too big for FAT. Ignore this.
6. Eject the iPod using iTunes and then press the select and menu button to reset the iPod back into normal mode.
7. Plug the iPod back in. You will get a message on Windows saying that you need to format it again. Ignore this.
8. Restore the iPod using iTunes.
This method will completely wipe the iPod and formats the entire thing to its original file format. I have read that doing this can reduce the life of the iPod, but better than having a iPod paper weight. This method made mine run like new again. Hope this helps.

So my iPod nano 6th gen died on me last night so I decided to dig out my iPod Classic %th gen and see if it worked. I turned on fine so I was like "Happy days!" untill I pulgged into iTunes.
When I plug it in I get this message:
So I went through the steps and then this came up:
I thought the problem was fixed but as soon as I plug it back in that process just starts all over again and I'm getting really frustrated with it. Is there any hope for it or am I stuck with a brick?

Corrupt iPod classic

Hello, I bought a 160 GB iPod classic in December 2013. I have had no issues with it until recently i open iTunes and it tells me that my iPod is corrupted. I have tried reconnecting it, turning my computer on and off again, holding down the menu and center button, putting it in disk mode etc. I was just wondering if anyone has anyway they can fix this issue?

Corrupted iPod Classic data recovery? In need of a guru.

So, I have an iPod classic, and it seems to work almost entirely fine - it occasionally doesn't respond, but it has 11,000+ songs on it, and is a couple years old.
My issue here is that there is plenty (read: more than $10,000 worth) of store-bought CD music on there (some of it awfully rare) and I am going to lose it all if I can't figure out how to rescue it.
iTunes calls the iPod corrupted, Disk Drill and Drive Genius (free versions of both) don't seem to be doing much good.
The only thing that MAY have been progress that I did was copying the drive to a dmg file, but the dmg won't mount ("no mountable file systems" error).
I feel so close to being able to fix this issue, and the music is there to listen to, so why is it so hard to get to it??!!
I have done the following things to try to fix the issue:
Charged iPod fully before connecting
Connected in Disk Mode
Ran Diagnostic Mode
(HDD Smart test returned the following:
Retracts: 55
Reallocs: 56
Pending Sectors: 744
PorweOn Hours: 93
Start/Stops: 29303
Teamp: Current 34C
Temp: Min 10c
Temp: Max 50c)
At this point, I don't know what to do to either the .dmg on the computer or the ipod itself so I can have my music again.
I wouldn't be freaking out, but again, 10 grand is on the line.

From your Smartdata report, it looks like your iPod hardisk is dead, it is hardware like dying drive, or weak power to the drive.
The 3rd party HD repair tools, wont help, as the HD cant get the right spin to write/read the boot cluster, see the high Start/Stop numbers counts, the high pending is also indicative of bad clusters, failing to write data to the HD.
There MIGHT be some vendors who can recover your data, but the hardisk is a write off., I google "ipod hardisk data recovery" and got this site, so perhaps you can find one in your country.

Corrupt iPod Classic (1429)

Hello! I own an iPod Classic (120 GB) since a couple years now and it has never given me any problems. Recently, after i bought an album on itunes, when i plugged it in to synchronize it, my computer tells me it's corrupted and i need to restore it, but when i try to restore it it makes it so far but then it says it cannot restore, and that's when it says "error 1429"
The stats of my iPod are:
Retracts: 375
Reallocs: 938
Pending sectors: 9
Poweron hours: 2905
Start/stops: 373
Temp: current 25c
Temp: min 12c
Temp: max 45c
Does anyone know what should i do to fix it?

Corrupted iPod Classic, but not synced to iTunes 9!

My 120GB iPod Classic (thankfully still under warranty, since I'll probably need to have it fixed now) is now corrupted, according to iTunes. Last night, I had to restore it because none of my songs or videos would play, it then seemed to work. But now this... I think I'm having the same issues as everyone else, basically, but I don't want to mess with it and try to fix it because I'll probably mess it up even more.
There's only one big difference between me and everyone else I've seen posting. My iPod is not synced to iTunes 9 and never has been. (This is due to an issue I asked a question about and never got an answer to long ago - blessing in disguise?) However, all the problems started when I connected it to my mom's laptop (which does have iTunes 9) to transfer a file. iTunes of course popped up and asked if I wanted to sync with that library, I clicked Cancel and closed iTunes...
Could that have been enough to corrupt my iPod? Just having any form of connection to iTunes 9 at all? Because it just seems like too much of a coincidence for this to just happen now. I was already annoyed that when I try to download the free music on iTunes (and view half the store) it tells me I have to upgrade iTunes NOW constantly, and now all of this. I'm not happy with Apple/iTunes right now.

It's possible that when you connected your iPod to your mum's computer it effectively told that iPod to only recognise iTunes 9.0 So now, when you connect it to your computer, it's confused and therefore iTunes says it's corrupted.
Regardless of what you've read in these (or any other forums) about iTunes 9, the majority of people have upgraded to 9.0 without any problems. Since they've had no problems, they haven't spoken out about it, here or anywhere else.
A basic troubleshooting step would include connecting your iPod to the latest version of iTunes - so I think that's what you should do. If there is still a problem after upgrading your iTunes, then try doing another Restore of your iPod.

I recently noticed little tiny jumps or skips appearing in songs on my 80GB ipod classic, so decided to restore it. Having done this I got the following message:
"Itunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
Reconnecting it just brings up the same message. I have Itunes 9.0 and have noticed others here describing problems between the latest versions of Itunes and their iPods.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems to mine, or do I just have a faulty iPod? Sadly it's out of warranty, but it is just over 2 years old so I'll be pretty disgusted if it's already broken, as I've looked after it very well.
Any advice much appreciated - thank you!

Ok, I updated Itunes to 9.03, and so far it seems to have rectified the problem i.e. I'm no longer getting ipod corrupted message, and I can transfer all my songs onto it as normal. Whether it will solve the little ticks I'm hearing in songs throughout my library on the iPod, I've yet to see.
Sorry and good luck to those having similar problem that cannot find such an easy solution.

Corrupted iPod Classic

Hi, I have the iPod Classic for 1 year and 6 months and it started to corrupt.
Two days ago I've backuped musics, restored, and synced all back...today (01/02/2013) it corrupted again...
I tried Floola, frooze.
iTunes when I connect, frooze.
Some musics now are corrputed (I had 140gb>) and I can not redo the backup.
I'm very sad with apple, was a expensive no-quality product.

I had this problem a week after getting mine, I called apple and they replaced it. Since then I have had no issues. Try calling apple, talking to their tech support, and perhaps scheduling a replacement.

Connecting my iPod Classic to my pc I get a message that says my iPod is corrupted and that I need to restore it to its original settings. The last thing I want to do is lose ALL THAT MUSIC.

Redchair software's Anapod corrupts ipod classic 160 on PC?

Hello. Does anyone use Redchairsoftware's Anapod Explorer on their PC? I find that I can use it to add songs to the ipod classic 160, but once I disconnect, no songs are found on the ipod. And then when I connect to itunes, it says a restore is necessary, leaving me with an empty ipod. I was hoping someone out there might have gone through the same thing. Thank you for your time.

It's been reported that iTunes alternative applications will not work with the new iPods due to some changes being made to how files are stored.

Same problem. Attach 80gb classic ipod to macbook running 9.0.3 and think whole thing freezes. CPU peaks at 100 then crashes back to 0 and stops the sync completely. Utterly devastated. Have reset, restored, reformatted and still a totally useless ipod that was working seemlessly before.

I had been getting the same error and was trying to figure out how to save everything on my ipod so I could restore it to original settings.
I read this message and remembered that when I tried to download my pictures from my digital camera, it was not allowing me to do so. I got a new HP Photosmart All-in-One printer about that time and when I called Cannon they told me that that particular printer uses up so much memory or whatever that I would have to right click on the HP Printer icon on the lower right side and completely shut it down prior to downloading my pictures every time.
I just restarted my computer, then turned off the HP Printer and voila...I reconnected my ipod and there was no message about a corruption and everything downloaded as usual.
It took me another 15" just to sign up to type this message, but thought if it could help someone else, it would be worth it.

IPod classic crashes or freezes when connected to volkswagen 2012 gli fender stereo mdi. Is there a fix?

I own a 2012 Volkswagen GLI Autobahn model. It has a nice Fender stereo system with an iPod interface in the glove compartment. A special cable connects to the bottom of the iPod and into a digital interface. This allows me to see the song information and access playlists on the stereo's touch screen. The problem is that ever since I have had the car, the connection to the stereo drops out and sometimes the iPod crashes and has to be restarted. This happens with 3 different iPods (one 20 GB fourth generation, one 80 GB iPod classic and now a more recent version of the classic, a 160 GB model). I have brought it to the dealer at least 3 times. They claim that they cannot reproduce the problem (which I do not believe). Finally, they replaced the interface for the cable. This did not work. I am also using my 3rd cable and this has not solved the problem. It seems like the stereo itself is defective. Anyone out there know of a fix?
