Hi allicia, and Welcome to Discussions!
Does the iPod turn on at all when you try to use it? Does the computer recognize the iPod any more? if so, have you tried to restore the iPod?
Here are a few links that might help you.

  • How do you fix a corrupt ipod nano 4th gen

how do you fix a corrupt ipod nano 4th gen?

    Hi bigmike94610,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For iPod nano troubleshooting I would suggest the troubleshooting outlined in the following web link. I would suggest working through the steps in the order presented on the website, but you may ultimately need to restore your iPod.

  • Corrupted iPod Nano - restore's aren't working

iTunes 7.0.2 on Windows XP Pro SP1 (long story).
    G1 iPod Nano (4GB) Firmware release 1.3
I upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2 and firmware release 1.3 when they came out (a couple weeks ago). I use the device, syncing between iTunes and the iPod daily, and have had no problems with either.
Today I'm getting the message from iTunes: "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
    Disconnecting & reconnecting doesn't work.
Quitting and restarting iTunes doesn't work.
    Restarting the computer doesn't work.
Hard reset on the iPod doesn't work.
Restoring the iPod using iTunes 7.0.2, runs, then I get the "Your iPod has ben restored to factory settings..." message, followed by the iPod rebooting, followed by the same message being displayed:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need..."
A couple cycles of this does nothing.
The iPod passes the internal diagnostics test.
    "Settings >> About" on the iPod gives "Songs 0 / Photos 0 / Capacity 3.7 GB / Available 3.7 GB / Version 1.3 / S/N .... / Model MA107LL / Format Windows" which looks all correct to me.
Forcing it into disk mode, I can browse through the empty directory structure, and can copy files onto and off of the device. iTunes still complains that the iPod is corrupted.
I've read through 30 or 40 forum postings about corrupted iPods, and haven't been able to find one that matches my scenario.
    Any suggestions?

Well yo have to do what wmlye says...
But if you need precise instructions, hey there are:
    1) Connect your iPod nano in your PC
    2) Close iTunes. DO NOT EJECT in iTunes or Windows
    the iPod.
    3) your iPod most be now saying in the screen "Do not
    discconect"
    4) Reboot yor iPod nano for doing this just press the
menu button and center button at the same time and
wait until the Black Apple logo screen appears.
    5) In the same Black Apple logo screen after reboot,
before the iPod its in the main menu, press the
play/pause button and center button at the same time
until the screen Says "Do not disconnect" and the top
    title says "Disk Mode".
    6) Now go to Windows Start Button and click on
Execute and type there "diskmgmt.msc" (without the
    quotes)
    7) Find and Select your iPod in the list, now you
will see two partitions that are in your iPod find
and select the partition what says FAT32 (Always is
the most bigger of the two ;))
    8) Then press the right click on the partition that
we find on the step 7, and select format, put a label
of your choice, then select FAT32 as the file system
type, leave the assignement size as default, uncheck
the quick format value and press OK.
    9) There is possibility that windows says a warming
of that the iPod its still being used and more
technichal stuff, just says OK and your iPod now its
    completly formated.
    10) Open your iTunes and restore your iPod and wait
    until the restore is complete
    11) Now your iPod most be completly fixed
I hope this info will help you

  • ITunes said my iPod Nano 4G is corrupted when it's in one USB port, but not in the other.

iTunes said my iPod Nano 4G is corrupted when it's in one USB port, but not in the other. Is the port faulty? Windows 7 PC

Could just be a loose connection or that the cable itself is going bad.  There are a number of factors that could play into this scenario.

  • Ipod nano - cant restore - firmward file corrupt

my ipod nano (1st generation)was originally formatted for a mac, and I need to perform a restore because my main computer is now a pc.
However, when I try to restore the ipod I get an error message saying that the firmware file is corrupt..I have followed the instructions for fixing this problem(remove the apple updates folder in /spplications etc), but I cannot find that folder, even after showing hidden files. I found a program of a similar name in my program list called 'apple updates', which I tried to uninstall but again got an error message.
Please help! cannot update, add, change songs etc on my ipod

Okay...got mine working...here is what i did....uninstalled and reinstalled both Itunes and quicktime on my computer. Still wouldnt work, still locked up my computer. I found another computer that had an older version of itunes on it...connected my ipod to it, and it finally restored my ipod settings. Took it home to connect it to mine, and it worked. Hope this helps anyone else out...Especially since this seems to be a reoccurring problem that Apple isnt taking care of. good luck

  • My iPod nano needs to be format, but it doesn't format using fat 32. And it says that it is corrupted. What should I do?

My iPod nano needs to be format, but it doesn't format using fat 32. And it says that it is corrupted. What should I do?
As I connect it to itunes, it shows that it needs to be format. When I try to format it (fat32) it doesn't finish. And it says, the ipod appears to be corrupted.

similar to what is happening to me....the difference is, after restoring itunes detect ipod and ask to restore again and again....
I know it may look kinda stupid but: just leave the ipod there for about 2 minutes, that's about the time my itunes is taking to detect my ipod...if it doesn't work, try connecting ur ipod to other computer with itunes (no need to sync, just to check if itunes will recognize) to check if the problem is with the ipod or with the itunes and/or computer.

  • HT1339 I have an IPOD Nano 4th Generation 8GB and need to restore to factory settings as want to sell it; however it will not reset and when plugged into my MAC it says firmware corrupt? CAn anyone shed light on what i can do to overcome this issue?

I have an IPOD Nano 4th Generation 8GB and am unable to restore it back to factory settings even when it is connected to my MAC.  I have tried the menu/select hold but is not doing anything.  When connected to the MAC and select restore in itunes it comes up with 'Firmware Corrupt'.  It also states the IPOD is up to date.  I have the latest operating system on my MAC and wonder if this may be part of the issue?
Can anyone shed light as to what i can do to reset it back to factory settings as would like to sell it and ensure it is ready for the new owner.
    Thanks

  • IPod Nano 4G Corrupt?

My iPod Nano 4G has been working fine up until now. When I connected it to my laptop to charge it, a message popped up in iTunes that said
'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.'
A message from Windows also came up that said
'You need to format the disk in drive H: before you can use it.
Do you want to reformat it?'
Please help! I have no idea what to do. I tried restoring it, and that did nothing. I also tried connecting it to a different port and that also did nothing.

Have you tried pressing the centre and menu buttons for approximately 10 seconds to reboot the iPod?

  • Corrupt file error - ipod nano (HELP!)

Each time that I put a new CD into my computer and add it to my iTunes library so that I can transfer the songs onto my iPod nano I get a "corrupt file" error message relating to my iPod and I also get a pop-up asking me to register my iPod even though I've done this already. This happened again yesterday and this time ALL of the songs on my iPod were erased! I don't know what the problem is and why I'm getting this "corrupt file" message. I need help - does anyone know what I can do?

    hiya!
I get a "corrupt file" error message relating to my iPod and I also get a pop-up asking me to register my iPod even though I've done this already.
it's plausible here that you're getting the drive-confusion-related version of the chkdsk (based on the fact that you're constantly getting the iPod setup assistant).
    see:
    Da Gopha: chkdsk errors
    and:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • IPod nano Software Download - Files are corrupt

Just purchased an iPod nano. Tried to install the software. When it reached the iTunes portion it flashed a message that "Some installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy and retry the installation." I went to the website and did that. Results were the same. Ideas?

There is a simple solution to your problem:
    INSTALL WINAMP & PLUGIN
The plugin can be found here

They also have a Tutorial (which I did not need)

  • IPod nano corrupted iPhoto thumbnails?

After syncing my photos for the first time with my iPod nano, I have a number of thumbnails in iPhoto that show up as blank, and iPhoto seems to have a hard time scaling pictures in general. Rebuilding the library has not helped. Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi bob,
I don't think any update to the iPod software will put your iPhoto library back together again. (By the way, there is an update to the iPod software)
I suggest you navigate through the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder and see if the images are still there. If they are and you can open them with Preview, the images are fine.
I also suggest for you to create a new library and import/add to the library the images from the corrupt library. I will tell you ahead of time that this will import all your images in dated rolls, but you will have to redo albums, keywords, slideshows, books, etc.
    Instructions:
Drag old iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto
Create new library and name it at the prompt
    Go to File/add to library
Navigate to the library on the desktop and choose it
    Let iPhoto import your images.
More details on what will happen on Page 2, #2
    iPhoto Help
    iPhoto Help 2
good luck if you should decide to do this.
You might also want to export just the images you want on the iPod nano to another folder in your Users folder and use this folder as the sync folder. You would do that within iTunes when you mount the iPod, click on the iPod icon on the bottom right and go to the correct place to change the location of images to sync

  • Can I get music off a corrupted/broken ipod nano at the apple store?

My Ipod nano had a cracked screen soon after I first got it and the screen was replaced.
My second Ipod nano screen began lifting up in the corner awhile ago, I thought nothing of it until it snagged on a persons clothing and tore the wire ribbon, taking the screen clean off.
As I ran out of space on my old computer, I had to delete all of my music, the ipod was the only way that I stored it, I tried to connect the broken ipod to my new computer to get my music back but it now claims to be corrupted.
If I take it to a store, will they be able to get my music off and onto a pen drive for me? how much will this cost?
The ipod has no warranty due to being a replacement for a fire hazard first generation nano.

No, if you are getting a message that the iPod is corrupted there is no way to retrieve your music.

  • IPod nano "corrupted."

So I just got the new iPod nano for my birthday last week. And today while it was charging, I turned my computer off and unplugged the charging cable thing, and the iPod froze or something and the screen stayed to "Connected Eject Before Disconnecting" and its still like that and wont turn off. When I plugged it back in, a pop up from iTunes says it "appears to be corrupted", so I clicked "Restore" but it doesn't work. I have no idea what to do..
    Please help!

Same thing happened to me today, less than 1 week old, try moving the little switch on the bottom to the right then to the left, then you have to press the centre button and the menu button at the same time and hold them down until the ipod switches off, then let go. When it switches back on try connecting it to your pc and it should be working fine. It worked for me but I rang the store and told them of the problem and they offered a replacement, i'm going to see what its like over the next couple of days.
    Hope this helps.
