Corrupt Lightroom 2

Hi,
Lightroom 2 ran absolutely perfect until it Crashed and caused a "?" to appear on all the files I have loaded since Lightroom Crashed.
To solve this problem, two Really Knowledgeable Adobe Good Guys, Lee Jay and Sean McCormack offered numerous suggestions which has not solved the problem.
For the past two (2) frustrating days I can not process any RAW files because Lightroom will not see the location of the files I load.
My solution is to Delete Lightroom from my PC running XP Pro with service pack 3 installed.
I need suggestions on how to remove "every single trace" of my present installation of Lightroom so I can install an Un-Corrupted copy of Lightroom 2 which I hope will operate perfectly like it did before it crashed.
Any detailed removal suggestions Greatly Appreciated.
Thank You,
Hersul

Thank You Lai and Dennis,
I removed all the Lightroom files displayed by Regedit and re installed Lightroom 2 but that did not solve the problem as the "?" is still present on every file.
I am very frustrated and disappointed that no one from Adobe who monitors this forum can solve the "?" problem.
I will have to purchase another software to convert the RAW files and that sucks.
Lightroom performed perfectly before it crashed and now it is absolutely worthless as it can not see any of my RAW files.

  • Corrupt Lightroom Catalog

I was recently working on a Lightroom 4 catalog that was saved on a G-Drive when the hard drive failed. I was able to recover the catalog using data recovery software, but now when I try to open it, Lightroom says it's unable to open due to an unexpected error. I've tried renaming the catalog, importing from a new catalogue, and opening various ways, but nothing works. The catalog seems corrupt. Help! Is there any way to recover the catalog?

The message you are getting could be caused by the presence of the so-called lock-file. The purpose of the lock file is to prevent that a catalog file can be opened twice at the same time.
Therefore it should be present when a catalog has been opened with/by Lr. But the lock-file should be deleted (automatically) when the catalog has been closed by Lr. It happens sometimes that on closing of a catalog, the lock-file is not deleted, particularly when Lr does not close down but is interrupted by a crash or hardware failure. The lock-file then prevents any further opening of this catalog and Lr sends the message you are getting.
With Lr closed check in Mac Finder / Win Explorer if you can find a lock-file. The lock file sits directly besides (i.e. in the same folder) the catalog file in question.
The catalog is a file with the extension <  .lrcat>; the lock-file has the extension <  .lrcat.lock>
If - for instance - you have a catalog file named <123xyz.lrcat>, the lock-file would have the name <123xyz.lrcat.lock>.
If, while Lr is closed, you see a lock-file, delete it, i.e. send it to the Trash Can / Recycle Bin.

  • Corrupted Lightroom (Can't access Basic controls in Develop module.) Do I need to delete and reinstall and, if so, how to do it without involving Creative Cloud swamp?

I am running on a McBook Pro, and suddenly cannot see or access the Basic options. Have I pushed the wrong button or has Lightroom gotten corrupted by my visit to Hawaii?
My thought is that the program has been corrupted; normally I woiuld simply delete it and reinstall, but Adobe seems to want me to jump through the Creative Cloud hoops, which I tried once and quit almost immediately.
Is there something that I ought to do to regain control ofmy life, or at least Lightroom?

That's odd - remember it is "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom."
On a MacBook, show the Launchpad (4-finger pinch on the trackpad) and type "Lightroom" in the search bar to find the app... Pin it to the dock when it's open so you can easily find it in the future (right click the dock icon, Options > Keep in Dock).

  • Corrupt Lightroom 4

I bought Lightroom 4 back in July. Since then I have used the program almost every day for our hobby business. Recently, upon opening the folder it says the file is corrupt. Now I am not sure what else I can do. I have tried to have it fix itself. I have the disc however the serial number is packed due to the fact we were in the process of moving. Now I need to know if there is a way I can fix this with what I have or if I need to unpack our boxes to find the serial number. Our move is put on hold until the government shut down is over and our house loan can be approved. Someone please help me figure this out. Thank you

Recently, upon opening the folder it says the file is corrupt.
Could you give us the exact error message? Could you also tell us exactly what folder your are opening?
Also, please tell us your operating system.

  • Corrupt Lightroom download

Lightroom wouldn't extract, so I went to the Temp folder and tried installing from there, but got an error message that a Cab file is corrupt.  Do I delete everything from the Temp folder and redownload?

Without system info and otehzr details nobody can really know. Failing extraction can have any number of reasons, most notably simply running out of disk space or security tools blocking access to files and folders...

    Hello
I purchased and downloaded Lightroom 4 from the App store to my Macbook last year.  However, there is now an error with the file and I get a message saying to delete the file and re-downoad it from the app store.  However, when I do this, Lightroom 4 is nolonger available on the app store, and I get anerror message when I try to update the file.  Do I need to purchase this program again???  I sure hope not.  Please get back to me with some support.
    Thanks a lot.

Jacklyne, this is a user to user forum not Adobe Help.
I'm not sure about how App Store purchases work as I have no experience with that. However do you have the serial number?

  • How do I Remove Lightroom 2 from my PC

    Hi,
Please advise how I can Completely Remove the Corrupted Lightroom 2 from my PC running XP Pro with SP3 Installed.
I would like to remove every trace and re install Lightroom.
    Thank You for your advise,
    Hersul

For Windows, the "Lightroom Preferences.agprefs" file is for LR 1.x (LR 1.4.1 in my case), and I think the one for LR2 is named "Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs"
In the thread I saw this:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b5fcb7
(post #4 of 4 by Lee Jay) ... there could be several prefs files in this folder, depending on the various versions one may have installed.
This info should be in the FAQs somewhere. The page I saw in the KB looked like it wasn't updated for LR2:

  • Persistent bugs on Import and Export in LR 2.5

I have been having two distinct problems with LR 2.5 (ever since 2.5 became available).
    IMPORT
(This has been consistently happening for imports from both my Canon 20D, my Canon 50D. and my Powershot D10.)  When I import a group of files, usually about 2 to 5 of the images loses all their metadata, including image size, ratings, etc.  The image returns as a grayed box with an alert in the corner.  If I select the gray boxes, the image will appear after a few seconds, but the metadata is still lost.  The first attached file here is from a screenshot showing that 2 images lost their data -- and you can see the pop-up tip showing the image size as "nil x nil".  These problem images can not be processed in the Develop Module.
    EXPORT
When I export a group of images to a new folder on my disc (creating JPEG copies from processed TIFFs), not all of the images will show up in the catalog view.  The second attached file here shows a screen shot of my situation (which happens almost every time).  In the folder view, you can see that I exported 33 images from the folder "Pass1" to the new folder "Pass3".  As you can see, the folder panel indicates that there are 33 images in folder "Pass3", but if you look to the right to the image numbering, there are only 31 present.  When I look at the folder in Windows Explorer, there are actually 33 files there, and when I isolate which 2 files are not showing, I have tried to re-import them, but end up inthe same place.  I can assure you that there are no filters blocking any images.
I suspect that these two bugs are related.  It really puts a monkey-wrench into my workflow.  Can anyone from Adobe please suggest a work-around?  Or does anyone know what might be happening here?
    Thanks,
    Nick

I really would like to be able to have all my images in one catalog only.
I keep all of my 75k or so images in a single catalog. The originals are both on an internal drive and an external drive that I only hook up when needed. So this is certainly doable. I simply move older files over to the external when they are not needed every day anymore and reconnect the folders they are in in Lightroom. I have Lightroom set to automatically generate folders per day and month on import so this is very simple. Even without the external drive present, I can still tag and make collections with the offline images. I suggested you generate a new catalog simply as a test. If they import there, your problem is in the original catalog. If they don't, the problem is either with the files themselves, or you are dealing with corrupt Lightroom preferences. The latter you can deal with by deleting the preference files (google for it, there is FAQ on Adobe's website that contains instructions for your OS).
I import only RAW (CR2) files with Adobe RGB as the color space
Just FYI. RAW does not have a colorspace. The setting that you do in the camera only applies to jpegs and the jpeg preview embedded in the RAW file. Lightroom ignores it and always renders to its own internal space that is based on prophotoRGB. The camera should not expose this setting when you are shooting RAW, but unfortunately it does, confusing lots of photographers.
It is during the import that a small handful of files get corrupted.
That's a very bad sign. I have never seen files get corrupted during import. If they do, I would seriously look into hardware problems with your card reader, USB cable or USB interface.
I then export/convert the files (including the corrupt ones) to TIFF format for processing in Photoshop (noise reduction and pre-sharpening).
Are you using special external plugins? The capture (or pre) sharpening in Lightroom is far better than what you can find by default in Lightroom, so you might be far better off simply staying in Lightroom altogether. The noise reduction is also pretty basic but OK. You really need third-party software to get better than what you can find in Lightroom. I now only go to Photoshop for Layering images (multiple exposures for example). Not going to Photoshop will save you enormous amounts of disk space as TIFFs created from RAW are generally many times larger than the original RAW due to the demosaic and the need to use 16 bits.
I do a final export/conversion to JPEG into a new LR folder, and this is where the two unique images disappear (but not from the count in the left panel).
Do you have the preference (import section) to "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate photos" enabled?

  • Katalogfehler - Und nun etwas ratlos

Vorab, was andere immer wissen möchten:
Katalog reparieren 2. Beenden
Natürlich habe ich Katalog reparieren geklickt - was soll man anderes machen?
    Sebastian

    Was muss man vorab machen:
    Backup des angeblich kaputten Katalogs
Ladet euch SQLite herunter ( SQLite Download Page ) - (z. B. Precompiled Binaries for Windows Runtime)
    Beispiel: D:\LR-Backup>echo .dump | sqlite3 katalog.lrcat > katalog.sql
    Sebastian

  • White Balance jpg Importing Issue

In Lightroom 1.2 I'm having a white balance issue after importing jpg's from my hard drive into LR. I noticed the issue after I did my jpg selection in Windows XP using the MS Picture Viewer to delete bad jpg's before I import the good jpg's into Lightroom. The white balance was way of balance using the LR "As Shot" WB as compared to MS Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. A custom WB of -31 in LR equals the WB of jpg as viewed in the Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. All 289 jpgs were affected. I also re-imported the jpg's into other new catalogs with the same results.
I do not have any presets selected for importing. I don't think I made any setting changes, I checked the settings and did not see anything out of the ordinary. I also did a "repair" re-install of Lightroom just in case a module got corrupted. The jpg's were from a Canon 20D. In the past week I was doing a lot of RAW prior to this importing the jpg's. The jpg's were imported into a brand new catalog and the PC was booted up prior to the importing. I never had this problem before with jpg's. Lately I have been getting catalog errors, settings that reset themselves, crops that uncrop themselves and photos that won't remove after I remove them while doing development of Raw photos. I have Lightroom installed on my local "C" Drive and the LR Catalogs are on my local "E" Drive.
    thanks
    Vince

    >Is MS Picture Viewer a colour managed application? I don't know, but don't think so. Lightroom is however which might be the cause of your problems.
Not in XP. In vista it is color managed. From the sound of it, the problem is a bad monitor profile but you might also have a corrupt Lightroom database. You need to recalibrate the monitor and NEVER use canned profiles from the monitor manufacturer. They are almost always corrupt. As a very last resort, you can use sRGB as the monitor profile (delete any profile found in the windows display properties) but only to hold you over until you can really calibrate it. The other problems with weird errors are pretty worrisome though. Do you also get them when you start a fresh catalog?

  • Awful canon raw conversion for photos with dramatic (i.e. underwater) non-standard white balance

I'm shooting underwater (and white balancing as I shoot using a white disc) with a canon s90, and have noticed that the raw conversions done by aperture are way worse than those from jpegs when I shoot in raw+jpeg and those done by raw processing using the canon digital photo professional software. In particular, reds are pretty much lost. It may be a false lead, but I notice that in aperture, the rgb histogram shows a dramatic spike of the red channel on the far right (possibly clipping?) that doesn't show up in the rgb histogram in the canon software.
I'm not sure whether this is related to the plethora of threads about canon raw processing and overly green output. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas? I could batch convert to tiff in the canon software but I'd really rather not do that... For one thing the 16bit tiff files are so much bigger than the raws and it is an annoying extra step. Also, note that I can't just batch fix the white balance because (a) I'm having a hard time getting aperture to do it properly (possibly b/c the red channel is clipped as far as the aperture UI is concerned?) and (b) The white-balance changes from picture to picture as I change depth, which is the whole reason I white-balance as I'm shooting in the first place..
I've attached two versions of a picture, one of which I processed the raw in aperture and one of which I processed the raw (and converted to TIFF to give to aperture) in the canon software. I then exported both as small jpegs from aperture.
    Canon Digital Photo Professional (correct):
    Aperture RAW processing (very wrong):

  • How do you upgrade to latest camera raw version?

CS5 tells me I do not need an update, I checked and I am running version 6 something.  However lightroom is bugging me everytime I transfer a raw file to Photoshop that I do not have the latest raw and so may not open.

If you are using LR 4.x it is the equivalent of ACR 7.x and LR 5.x is the equivalent of ACR 8.x, so if you are using either of these Lightroom versions then you will get the warning dialog.
If you use the option "render using LIghtroom" this will ensure 100% of your Lightroom edits will be applied if you choose "open anyway" then the older version of ACR in PS CS5 may not apply all your LR edits.
Yes, it's really important to use the "render using Lightroom" option.  (If ever you don't see that option, it may be because you've suppressed the warning, so go to "Edit..." menu, Preferences, General tab and click "Reset all warning dialogs".)
"Render using Lightroom" is the only way to edit in older versions of PS from Lightroom without corrupting Lightroom edits.  You can't update ACR in older versions of PS - Adobe abandons support of products the very second it introduces a successor product.
The only problem with "Render using Lightroom" is that it creates a tif before running Photoshop, rather than only when you save in Photoshop, which means Photoshop is slightly slower to open (and leaves you with a tif you don't need if you don't save in Photoshop).
Of course, Adobe's answer to your problem is to subscribe to Photoshop CC...
Simon, CS6 ACR is upgradeable for new cameras  so saying Adobe abandons support is not accurate just your perception. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything new just like you can run your car for as long as you like without being required to update..
Quite right, I was rather glib there.  However CS6 is the only superceded version of Photoshop that still has any support AFAIK.  And CS6 is still available for purchase, if you look hard, so arguably it's not quite superceded.
I think my general point is right, though.  By comparison, Microsoft provide maintenance support for old versions of software often years after they are superceded.  This is not just operating systems: superceded versions of Microsoft Office get maintenance upgrades for years after they are superceded.  Adobe provide no support of superceded versions of software with the exception of CS6.  Lack of new camera support in ACR for older versions of Photoshop has long been a grumble of photographers.
Personally I would regard 5 years support as reasonable, which would mean that CS5 should get new camera support until 2015. (And I don't regard use of the DNG convertor as adequate new camera support.)

  • Upgrading to Which Version?

    Hi All,
I've been away from LR for a while and have V1.1. When I open the program, it asks to update to V1.4.1 . Is there a way to upgrade to a previous version?
I have the individual version downloaded seperately. Do the upgrade program files overwrite the previous version? I am not concerned about keeping my settings as much as the "tag" or keywords assigned. Is there a way to keep them in an upgrade?
Any advice on "saving space" settings or not writing to .xmp files greatly appreciated for the sake of space. ;-)
    Thanks All!!!!
    Best,
    B

    I hope that you see
and read the many reports of V1.41 crashing? If you will hit these issues, I am afraid as nice it is to talk to Lee Jay, he will not help you, aside of giving you some usually enthusiastic acclamation of Lightroom. Adobe customer service might help, if it would have existed. Stay with 1.31 if you can.
In my experience with all the bug reports, crashes, corrupted screens only one team from Adobe has ever responded: This was the DB team. They took my corrupted Lightroom DB per upload and helped me via email. The rest has
never ever responded to any of the numerous stability and performance issues. And I am talking about some 100 cases meanwhile: Lightroom is one unstable piece of software.
Take version about which less issues are reported, unless you use one of recent cameras, and you need a most recent version to process your RAW files.

  • Bug - Lightroom 3 - CD/DVD drive corrupted

I have an issue that has been tested and proven to be Lightroom related whereas installing Lightroom, and updating to v 3.3 has caused my cd/DVD RW drive to be lost and corrupted.
The following notes and  timeline are a little long, but they fully explain the situation. If  anyone has had this issue or knows about a fix I would appreciate a  reply:
I will also add that I am a little peeved at the tech for Adobe customer support because he tried to brush me off after a few basic steps and told me the problem was a Windows issue. He said that Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other people with the same issue… That was a presumptuous statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, it did not justify Adobe leaving me cold. There is now a case number on this issue after further testing and my insistence that he escalate the case because I had already determined that it occurred at the precise moment I installed Lightroom. the Adobe Case # is 0181989673
    Problem Timeline:
After installing Lightroom 3, I discovered that CD/DVD Re-Writer drive was not working for Lightroom exports, I was seeing the notice at the bottom of theexport window stating “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer” (The same as in the V 2.2 Bug)… As well, I looked in Windows > MyComputer, and the CD/DVD RW drive was missing.  I looked to the device manager. The CD/DVD Writer was listed in the tree but had a yellow exclamation notice. I Confirmed Error Code (I beleive it was code 31) for Driver not loading properly or corrupted.

After performing above procedures the CD/DVD drive loaded (Plug and Play) successfully and was recognized at a basic level. I re-installed the authoring software (Ashampoo Burning Studio 6). At this time I could read and write to DVD via Ashampoo; but still, I could no longer write to either CD or DVD via Windows XP.
Also at this time; I could still no longer write to CD or DVD via Lightroom 3.3 using export and choosing CD/DVD… Lighroom was still listing at the bottom of the export window “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer”.
This brings me to the point at which I called Adobe Support; Case # 0181989673
Adobe tech had me perform the following:
Pull     the preferences folder out of Lightroom 3.3 folder and re-start Lightroom…     Problem still present
Open     Lightroom from the Administrators User account; import a photo and try to     export and burn to CD/DVD… Problem      still present
At this time the tech told me it was a Windows issue; NOT an Adobe issue; and that I would need to take it up with Microsoft, or just export to hard drive and burn to CD/DVD afterward using authoring software.
I immediately told the tech that was NOT acceptable because this issuewas caused by installing Lightroom 3.3; and although the problem now existed in Windows; that did not wash Adobes hands of it. I requested that the case been escalated to a senior tech… I did not at all appreciate the idea of being left in the middle and I also did not appreciate the notion of having a CD/DVD writer that was buggy and not performing as it should.
He told me "Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other peoplewith the same issue"… To me, that was a STUPID statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, did not justify Adobe leaving me cold.
The     tech decided to try creating a new Windows XP user account as     administrator and re-test Lightroom for burning to CD/DVD… Problem still present
Tech     instructed me to un-install and Re-install Lightroom. I un-installed     Lightroom. After taking screen shots of my preference settings (since I     would need to re-set all settings again). I uninstalled Lightroom.
At     this time; though the tech did not think of doing it; I decided to try and     burn to CD/DVD via Windows to see if the problem was gone after removal of     Lightroom. Now, with Lightroom removed, I can write to CD/DVD in the     conventional way using drag and drop via Windows.
I      told the tech what I had done; proving that this was in fact related to      Lightroom. He stated the case would be escalated and gave me the case      number.
I hope this taught the tech a lesson in troubleshooting and hope he will not be so quick to assume “Not an Adobe issue” as the exact cause of this anomaly has not been determined yet... Now I have not re-installed Lightroom yet. I would like for the senior tech who takes this case to contact me to give me further instruction because I have no reason to believe re-installation will not cause me problems again and want the tech to witness the result.

This problem has been resolved. I haven't heard from anyone else who has had the same issue, but in the event anyone does I can say what corrected it and I have a theory of what might have happened. Originally I installed Lightroom from the disk and after installation chose to update. After this is when the problem with the CD/DVD drive showed up. The tech at Adobe said they did not know what could have caused it, but recommended re-installing Lightroom to see if it happened again.
I did some research and found information at Peachpit: Having trouble burning CD/DVDs in Lightroom 2.2?
about a bug that was present in version 2.2 where the installation executable was accidentally installing the 64 bit drivers on the 32 bit system... The 64 bit drivers were corrupting the installation... On a hunch that it could be a similar issue, I downloaded Lightroom version 3.3 from Adobe and installed it rather than installing from the original CD. I did the install following the same instructions on the Peachpit post which was to double-click the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 folder, then double-click the setup32.exe file rather than double clicking the default installation executable.
I did not prove the above theory of the version 2.2 bug to be the cause, but the problem I had with the CD drive appeared after the original installation and went away after I uninstalled that installation of Lightroom. Now after re-installing as explained; the problem is gone.

  • Using Lightroom 5.7, Raw files become from my Nikon D810 become corrupted when I select them to view or edit.

.Updated to Lightroom 5.7 to accommodate the Nikon D810. Upon importing RAW files to the files become corrupted when they are selected to be viewed or edited.
I am using Windows 7, 64 bit, with 8 GB Ram.
    Any help would be appreciated.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.
