Corrupt mass memory of n95 8gig

my n95 8gig that i bought last month has a big problem... it suddenly corrupts and when i try to format it with my unit there is a message what should i do? is this a factory defect or something... vince

*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
*#7370# - Reformat your phone
This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. Turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button.
re-flash - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service.
you will lose your data. first do you have the latest firmware and is your phone unlocked and unbranded. do the firmware check via NSU (Nokia software updater) if there is an update you should update your phone. Try all these codes listed above, reformat should work for you but you will lose all data unless you did a back up prior to your memory getting corrupted

  • N95 8GB v20.0.016 - mass memory failure #3

For the third time my N95 8GB has managed to corrupt its mass memory ("mass memory corrupted") - only this time, I am unable to reformat it at all!
The problem behaviour is as follows:
Used the phone last night to take several pictures, accessing the Gallery at one stage to find and delete one picture. This afternoon I look for the photos to review, and the '200902' folder (images for February) on the mass memory has no subfolder and is empty. However, I DO have a video saved on the phone from the 7th of February!
This afternoon I am able to take as many pictures as I like and they are saved correctly in the gallery and the 200902 folder. I had used about 5.2GB of the mass memory at this point. (It may be worth noting that I would occasionally get the message 'Gallery: Memory full' whilst browsing the gallery, but never at any other time).
At this stage, the mass memory is still fully populated, so I thought it would be best to cut my losses and take a full phone backup. The backup process fails, with an error along the lines of having lost connection with the phone.
I check file manager to see what's going on, and the following message appears on the memory card page: "(no data)".
All previous times the handset corrupted its memory, the trigger seemed to be a reboot of the handset. (Contents were lost upon returning to File Manager after a reboot). Having not rebooted the phone at all in the last 24 hours, I was surprised that the memory card contents had apparently disappeared without any application being launched and apparently no new data writing attempts being made. Perhaps the read operation for the backup caused the failure? But this still does not explain how all my February photos were deleted.
Without any obvious way of getting to my files, I rebooted the phone, returned to file manager and was greeted by the familiar: "(mass memory corrupted)".
As mentioned previously, when this happened before I was able to format the memory via Menu -> Tools -> Utilities -> Memory -> Format. This time, I receive the message: "Mass memory is in use by other application. Continue anyway?". I select 'Yes' - but the handset simply returns to the memory screen and "(mass memory corrupted)". This still happens even after a reboot.
I have performed 'Factory settings' reset via the phone menus, a 'hard reset' via code *#7370#, a format by holding *, 3 and the call answer button whilst powering on the phone - none of these prevent the 'Mass memory is in use' error from occurring. I have also attempted to format drive E (mass memory) but this just returns an error code. When I attempt to upgrade the firmware, the process fails every time after ~3 minutes saying that the connection with the phone has been lost (the warnings about upgrading do state that the mass memory should NOT be encrypted, so I presume that it being inaccessible is equivalent to this).
I cannot see any way to format the 8gb memory so that I can make it usable once more! The phone was not dropped or damaged in any way in the last 24 hours, yet it seems that something must have physically changed inside it?
The only parallel I can draw between this incident and the previous one is that both times, the memory was around 2/3rds full (around 5.5GB). I am wondering if perhaps the FAT table outgrows itself and dies?
My 1 year warranty expired 3 weeks ago - I am hopeful my network operator will be able to provide a replacement and that this phone just has a 'bad' memory chip - it really is a superb phone barring this infuriating corruption problem mine seems to have!
If anyone could shed any light on a solution it would be much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Alex

In the end my operator agreed to replace the handset for me after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. In my opinion the problem was caused by a faulty memory chip.

p.s. - the old handset was sent to the operator for repair and they were unable to repair it, only offer a refurbished replacement. With the greatest of respect, it's good to know my case is not unique!

  • N86 E: Mass memory corrupted - how to recover?"

    Hi,
I'm using a N86 8MP which is less than 5 months old. Recently, I have lost all my music files and all the crucial photo images which I have taken between Jan till now and I have not done a backup yet. Somehow this occurs after I have switched the Singapore SIM Card to a China Prepaid Card. Could it be the cause of data losses? Also, not sure if the missing data has anything to do with the corrupted E:Mass Memory which I have just discovered yesterday.. Any ideas/advise?
And, may I know, how can I recover the corrupted E:Mass Memory from my Nokia N86 8MP phone?
    Please help. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, Barney-15E. FYI I am not running both iCal and Calendar. Just Calendar. Me bad for using the old name and new name interchangeably.
Tackling the iMac problem: In iCloud network preferences, I unchecked Safari then soon after rechecked it, and your suggestion appears to have worked: a bookmark recently added on one of the other devices appeared in the iMac Safari bookmarks. So far so good.
Did the same thing with contacts. The iMac took a couple of hours to restore the sync setting, but it finally completed the task. The computer was laboring so I rebooted. Then I opened the contacts application and saw the spinning grey bars next to the "iCloud" heading above my list of contact groups. Some time later the spinning lines were replaced by an exclamation point. I clicked on it and got the message that the operation could not be completed because of a "CoreDAVErrorDomain error 1..". Subsequently, after much spinning of the line wheel, I have gotten either the exclamation point with the CoreDAV message or a lightning bolt icon. Whether exclamation point or lightning bolt, clicking on it provokes a long period of the spinning line wheel. And looking at some telltale contact discrepancies between the iMac and the other machines, nothing seems to have changed in terms of merging the discrepancies.
Searching for the error message in the support community, I see this has happened to others, and they have had some success in following a list of steps starting with archiving the contacts, which I have done. Don't think I fully follow the other steps, nor am I sure they apply to my situation.

  • Copying to Main Memory (not Mass Memory)- N95 8GB

    Hi,
While converting / transferring the videos from PC to N95 8GB throughPC Suite, I noticed that it copied the files in Main Memory instead of Mass Memory.
Please let me know how to configure that or there is some other issue with this.
    Regards,
    Riz

have you tried using Nokia Suite rather than Nokia PC Suite? as Nokia PC Suite is no longer being actively developed or is supported by Nokia. there should be an option in the Settings of Nokia Suite to change the save location to the Mass Memory.
if not, then you can always use Windows Explorer to copy the files to the Mass Memory that appears as Removable Disk in windows.

  • N96 Mass Memory corrupted -- Help!!

Hello, the other day without any other trouble I discovered that my mass memory is corrupted.. I tried to make a picture and phone told me this.. I even tried to format memory, but unsuccessful as system says that is used by another application!.. Could anyone help?
    Thanks

have you tried to restart the device and then try again to format the card?
you can also put the card to a card reader on your pc, format it, and then put it back to the phone and format it again.
a pc will format the card no matter what. you just have to reformat it after you put it on the phone.

  • N95 8Gb don´t boot. Format mass memory.

    Hello,
My cellphone does not start after having copied some fonts in the mass memory (e:\resources\fonts). I have tried hard reset using the 3 buttons method (*, 3 and green dial) but nothing. I suspect that formatting the mass memory is the only solution, Is there a way to format it before you start up the cellphone?.
    thanks in advance.

the use of a font changing software like fontrouter and others in devices without a removable memory card can cause you present proble. these apps were never designed to work on such handsets.
anyway what is done is done, the only way you can hard reset your phone is through the 3 key procedure, for as long as the phone won't even start then a code reset can't be used. just make sure you're doing it the right key, as early release of one of buttons will cause the procedure to fail.
    1) Make sure phone is fully charged and switch it off.
    2) Press simultaneously the green "call" button, '*' and '3', and keep them down.
    3) With those 3 keys down, switch the phone on.
    4) Only release the 3 keys when the phone shows signs of life such as the Nokia logo or the language selection screen.
if it failed again, then your only option is to take your phone to the nearest nokia care point, where it can be flashed back for you.
you can find the nearest nokia care point here:

    It worked for me
    Hi there,
This worked for me. Have used this on N95 and N97 mini. havnt had to do it for a while. The files may be in a different place on th N97 mini. You may have to search for them. It works for music and podcasts. If you cant do it, you could put the music back in and delete it again.
    * Firstly, connect your phone to a PC via USB.
    * Choose Data Transfer (a.k.a. Mass Storage). Do not select PC Suite because you won’t be able to browse protected folders in PC Suite mode.
    * Open Windows Explorer on your PC.
    * Go to \private\101FFC31 on the phone’s folder.
    * There, you should be able to find the mpxv1.mpd (for MP3) and pcv5.mpd (for AUDIO PODCAST)
    * Goto \private\101f8857\Cache
    * Goto \private\101ffca9
    * In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
    * Now refresh ur music library

  • X6 16GB LOST MASS MEMORY

I was listening to music on my phone when it beeped at me and on the screen it came up "data corrupt" and then all my music and pictures were gone, this happened once before and i was able to turn off the phone and turn it back on and all my stuff was there again. This time it says there is no mass memory only the phone memory(approx 300mb) its like my 16GB memory has crashed has anyone else had this problem?

It's not a virus but rather a hardware failure which needs to be sorted at a Nokia care point. Can't remember to have seen any reports on people fixing this issue with reinstalls of fw or hard resets.

  • Mass Memory Not Avaliable

  • N96 Installer fails to access mass memory

I cannot install or uninstall applications to or from my N96's mass memory for a while. I don't know what happened but as far as I could detect what is going on is phone's installer cannot access mass memory. For example, when I want to re-install an application to mass memory which I have previously had on mass memory but no longer works correctly, after "Installing" is seen on the screen, installer fails to install, the error appearing is "Unable to install. No access." When I try to install it on phone memory while still the old application stays at mass memory, "Installing" appears and the installer bar propagates a little then error saying "Unable to delete file" appears. I pluged the USB cable in Mass Memory mode to PC and found the files of application in "sys" or "system" or "resource" folders and deleted them manually. After deletion, I tried installing to again mass memory, it again failed. I tried installing to phone memory, voila, it installed.
In installing I used Ovi Store application directly; I used the file downloaded with browser directly, and also I found the installer file of the application in "Installation files" under "Application manager" and tried to install also from there to no avail.
Also, when I want to Uninstall an application which is installed on the mass memory, it again fails and an error saying "Unable to delete file" appears.
Other things like Photos, Videos can be recorded to mass memory without problem. What can I do to solve this problem? Please help.

@meeezz I had a similar problem to you for a while now. The solution was INCREDIBLY simple. There are 3 things you need to do:
    1. Make sure Nokia Conversation and Nokia Contact Services are NOT INSTALLED! These two applications are a complete nightmare to your N95 8GB as they hook into all parts of the memory and stay there (thus not allowing you to access the Mass Memory)
    2. Check no applications that are installed to your mass memory are running in the background when you connect the USB Cable (to check if they are running press and hold the blue menu button and it'll bring up a list of running applications). If they are running press the 'c' button (used to delete text) and it'll exit the application. SOME APPS DON'T CLOSE WHEN YOU PRESS 'c'! The following applications (in my experience) don't close when you press 'c':
    F-Secure Anti-Virus/Anti-Theft
    Music Player
The applications I listed require you to go into the application and manually exit it.
    3. Reboot the phone. Press and hold the power button to make the phone shut down. Remove the battery and SIM card and re-insert it after 30 seconds (This is like a soft reset but without resetting the settings). Power on the prone and voila! It should allow you to access the mass memory!

  • Mass memory capacity displayed as 14.3 GB

I have bought n8 recently and updated
    software version to 013.016
    Release PR 1.1
after this my mass memory showing as 14.3 GB capacity instead of 16 GB. I dont have any kind of data on it. Is it the normal capacity or am i loosing 1.5 GB from my phone?
    Kindly clarify?
    vinay

Nothnig wrong there, it comes with Maps data preloaded  (Theres a "CITIES" folder on your mass memory which holds Maps data if you want to check how much space it is occupying)  and there are Ovi Suite installations files on mass memory (Thats why you don't find any Cd's in the box these days) and there are other thing like Tron promo videos, some applications preinstalled, all these things are taking some space on mass memory, After adding up all these i think its ok if it is showing 14.3 GB free.

  • N95 8gig Vs N96

so has anyone passed on the N95 8gig and bought the N96 ?
apart from the extra memory is there any other advantages ?
if anyone here has got one ( N96 ) i'd be interested to know what they think of it .....

It has a newer operating system with newer features.
It can handle more video file formats.
More memory for running programs making it faster.
You can video in the dark because it can use the flash as lights.
It looks a lot nicer than the N95 8GB.
It has mobile TV (country dependant).
    Better quality sound.
But it has one negative, it's battery is smaller than the N95 8GB's battery but it's claimed that it has improved power management. Obviously no one has tested that yet.
If you are looking to buy a phone now get the N95 8GB or the N82, if you are wanting to buy a phone towards the end of the year then you will have to decide if you want more features or better battery life.
