HI,
I deleted some videos of my son off my N95 SD card, I have recovered them but now they won't play. PLEASE help as I don't want to loose them.
Thanks

How did you recover them?
They may be corrupted in which case I don't know how to recover them.

  • Export in Premiere Pro 5.5 gives corrupted mp4 files when merging

    Hi everybody,
This is my first post on the forum although I have been following different threads for a while now..
I have an issue with the export of a project on Premiere Pro. It's a 48-min sequence: I have already exported H264 versions of the same project but it's the first time it happens to me. Basically, it's a film that I have made in French and English. I am screening both of them on big screens in a theater and I wanted to have the best quality possible.
I exported the English version with a huge target bitrate, and got a 13Gb file of great quality. Here is a screenshot of my export settings:
    http://i.imgur.com/BRlFVUx.png
    http://i.imgur.com/5kFKCyI.png
(this is a different project but the same settings)
When I try to export the French version (that only differs from the English one by a track of subtitles that is NOT in this one (it's shot with French actors)): it doesn't work! What happens is that the export lasts 8 hours and works completely fine. I can see temporary files around the end of the export: they are like 12.8Gb for the video and a few Mb for the audio called "5862_2326_1664.m4v" and "5862_2326_1664.aac". But when it merges into one single mp4, it's always a reduced 4Gb or 6Gb file.. Even worse: when I try to play it, it says "Unsupported or damaged file"!
I don't understand why this happened: The thing is that I already exported the exact same sequence many times with a lower bitrate  and it worked fine. I got 4Gb files (bitrate of 10Mbs)... Now, I have tried exporting with the same parameters 3 times: once to see if something had happened the first time but to no avail. The third time, I tried changing a few parameters in the export settings and still nothing...
It's all the more inconvenient that it takes 8 hours every time and I need the file by next Wednesday It also blocks towards the end (when it's 98 or 99%) and says something like 213466153 hours remaining but then completes.
Hope we can find a solution! Let me know if you need more details.
    Thanks,
    Aziz

I don't know if this will help, but I would recommend using 1920 x 1080 with Square Pixels.

  • Adobe Media Encoder creates corrupt H264 mp4 file

I am using Premeire Pro CS5 and exporting an H264 mp4 file from a 720x480 timeline.  For one of the files I am exporting, AME completes the export, i.e. I see a green check mark.  But the file is corrupt.  When I try to open the file with Quicktime, I get the following error:
"The operation couldn't be completed - (OSStatus Error - 12848)"
The strange thing is that other timelines exported without any problem.  And this particular timeline I could export using different (but very similar) export settings.  The only thing I'm changing is the video bitrate.  I'm actually creating three different videos for adaptive bitrate streaming, 300k, 550k, and 800k, all from the same video.  The 300k version is the only one that won't work.  But again, what is strange is that other timelines export out fine using the same exact 300k export settings.  It's just this one timeline that won't export without getting the mentioned error.

    I having the same issue.
    Any insight on a solution?

  • Why does Captivate 6 create mp4 files that the swf does not playback clearly?

Captivate 5 created a .swf which suited my training purposes very nicely.  There were swf files in the library, embedded in the (rather large) .swf that I asked the students to run.  Now it seems that Captivate 6.0.1.240 won't do that.  Captivate 6 creates external mp4 files for the video portion (audio is separately recorded mp3 that is imported to the finished demo video slide) and they look terrible when the .swf runs them.  Those mp4 look fine on their own but the .swf must resize them to properly fit with the TOC on the screen.
The HTML created when I make the .swf looks fine but it does not all fit on the screen as does the .swf so I don't like it and don't want to use it.  Thanks, in advance, for any replies and suggestions.

    Hi llstewart,
I assume you are launching your program from C drive. Are any
components of Captivate stored on the remote drive? (I am thing
your user profile, are you the only person who accesses Captivate
    from that machine?)
Does this happen all the time?
What I have noticed in my own network is that there are
periodic "dropped" connections on the network. I have never figured
out what it causing this, but Captivate does not like it. (Every
once in awhile if Word or Excel are writing to a file on a share,
they will become thoroughly corrupted too.)
The problem with Captivate is that it needs a lot of a
computer's resources and takes what it can get. It also seems to
write to a temp file a lot (while a capture is taking place) an
only "binds" it up when the user stops and ends the session. The
only thing I can think of is that during this process there is a
    inturruption in your network.
Sorry I couldn't fully answer your question.
I would try (if you can) loading the software on a machine
that is not on the network and try to do a series of long captures
and see if the problem persists.
I work in a large network and I do not have the problem, but
I have also installed the software myself and made sure of the
installation. I also make sure the program I am recording is local
(whenever possible). Additionally, do you have problems with any
    other programs and corrupted files?
Again, sorry I don't have a quick answer.

  • ** URGENT: ** MEDIA IS OFFLINE for Mp4 files after updating Premiere Pro CC to 8.1

    Hi there,
I upgraded recently to Premiere pro CC 2014 and I am working on a project that is already late.
I was having some small issues then I thought that after upgrading to latest version everything would be fine.
I just started Premiere and opened my project and had an error message, just like this guy
Premiere Pro CC 2014 seems to  Corrupt projects created with earlier versions
Then I deleted the preference files and the project could be opened again.
But the MP4 files haven't opened and has the imagem MEDIA OFFLINE
(and I have LOTS of MP4 files that were working absolutely fine before)
I tried to make links again but it didn´t worked.
I tried to drag and drop MP4 files it didn´t worked too. (unsuported media file)
I renamed the folder ADOBE from \user\appdata\local and roaming  twice.
I tried to start with SHIFT ALT to delete preferences againa - didn´t worked too.
    I tried to reinstall Quicktime.
I tried to reinstall K-Lite codec pack.
I REALLY need your help before formating and starting everything from scratch.
    Thanks and best regards.
    Lucas Selbach

So if you got here looking for an answer, this is what worked for me:
(se você quer uma resposta em portugues me avise)
    - Exit all adobe software (including Cloud)
    - Delete preference folder (adobe) in my documents.
    - Rename Adobe folder from \userfolder\appdata\roaming and \userfolder\appdata\local to old.adobe
    - Uninstall any codec package that you might have installed
    - Uninstall Premiere via add/remove programs
    - Look for *.xmp files and remove all
    - Remove rendered files too from your project folder.
    - Restart computer
    - Use a Registry utility to clean up your computer from traces (I use Glary Utilities)
    - Install Premiere Pro CC
    - Restart computer
    - Install Quicktime 7
    - Restart computer
    - Everything should be fine by now.
    =)
    Good luck!

  • How can I extract corrupted mp4's from my SD card?

I couldn't figure out which was the right forum to post this one to, but here goes. I was transferring AV content from my Sanyo Xacti HD2000 camcorder into iPhoto on my Mac when the operation hung and I eventually had to force quit the application. Even after that, I couldn't unmount the SD card in the Finder and so I had to yank the USB cable. I was hoping that because only a read operation was in progress that the card would be OK, but two mp4 files became corrupt (all the rest are fine). So far I've tried Data Rescue, CardRescue, Disk Doctors Photo Recovery and FileSalvage - none of them work. In fact, those programs don't even recover the known good mp4 files and it's my understanding that they just don't cater to mp4 files reliably. *.mov and *.mpg files are supposedly fine, but this camcorder creates *.mp4 files.
Does anybody out there know a recovery program that can deal with mp4 files - I also have access to a PC, so a recommendation for either platform works for me.
    Regards,
    Mick

  • Corrupted movie files

I have a large number of .mp4 files that no longer read into Quicktime player. It gives the "The file is not a movie file" message. These files used to be OK. I have checked some files from some older archives and they run fine. The movies are from several sources (iMovie, Handbrake, Elgato Turbo.264). For those files where I still have the source materials, re-converting works, but It will take several hundred hours to re-convert the files. I no longer have the source files for many of the movies.
Somehow these files are getting corrupted. (In the old days, I would try rebuilding the desktop, but that trick is no longer available). Any ideas on what is causing the corruption and how to restore/repair the files?

(In the old days, I would try rebuilding the desktop, but that trick is no longer available).
The "new" trick is repairing permissions and repairing your disk from your install disc. Instructions for both are found in the os Help menu and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751

  • Copying MP4 Files to Ex. Harddrive.

Hi. I have a 2-3 yr old 1TB external harddrive from HD. Never had a problem with it before. The other day I tried to copy an mp4 file from my Air to the harddrive - got an error message of some sort, tried again, same error message. The harddrive proceeded to freeze up and I had to force eject it. When I plugged it back it, it wouldn't recognize on my computer until I restarted the whole thing. Copied some more files, including videos, worked fine - then tried to copy another video file (whatever format is downloaded when you purchase a video from Itunes, can't remember) and the thing crashes. All files on the harddrive are fine, still there. I think the harddrive is getting old. I go and buy a new harddrive (today). I got a 1TB passport for Mac, from HD. I copy maybe 10 MP4 files and then I get to this one file, try and copy it - boom, crashes, have to force eject, now my Mac isn't reading it. The files that are causing the crashes are all different (IE - there's not one file that's corrupt or something). Any ideas what's going on? Plenty of room on harddrives...
Thanks in advance for any help! MacBook Air is about 6 months old.

Thanks for that info - didn't actually know that. Edited my question accordingly.
I have 2 USB ports, doesn't matter which one I use -  and I guess what I'm getting is that it's probably the computer? Since each external harddrive has its own cable, so that might also eliminate cable problems?
Both harddrives seem to be fine with smaller files, for what that's worth. I've been copying Word docs with no problem.
It's a weird issue. Not sure what to make of it.

  • Toshiba Gigashot GSC-K40HE HD - Playback of MP4 files

    Need help please.
I have a Toshiba Gigashot GSC-K40HE HD camera and have bought an Iomega ScreenPlay Plus HD Media Player, basically a 1TB hard drive with the ability to play back MP4 files that the GSC-K40HE produces through the HDMI cable direct to my TV.(http://www.iomega.com/support/manuals/hdd2009/scrnplyplus/en/main.html)
The files have been tranfered successfully onto the ScreenPlay Media Player, checked through my laptop the MP4 files open properly.
However when connecting the ScreenPlay Plus HD Media Player to the TV with the HDMI lead, when selecting the MP4 files a message comes up as 'Unknown File' and won't won't open.
    My questions are:
    1 Why won't the MP4 files play?
2 Is there another format that they need to be saved in for them to play, if so what ones
3 Looking at the GSC-K40HE HD camera files there is a 'THM' simultaneous generated with the MP4 file when a video has been taken, what is this and could this affect the playback through the ScreenPlay Media Player?
4 Does anyone know of a storage device similar to the ScreenPlay Media Plus that I can just copy and store my videos, plug and play back through my TV without the above happening.
    Look forward to your replies.
    Thanks

    Hi buddy,
Fact is if you can open the recorded files on your notebook the videos are ok and the its no corrupt video file so in my opinion the problem must be the external HDD where you store the videos.
Have you already tested different videos not from the camera? You should test it with other mp4 files and other file types to make sure the external HDD is working properly.
If its necessary I would contact Iomega directly. Maybe there is a firmware update for this media player or some settings that you have to check to make such recorded videos working.
I would also test another cable.

If you want to try to "repair" your iPod to get the music to show back up...
    http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/docs/help/corruptedipod.php
But again, it would be better to restore. Also, 3rd party software does not always work flawlessly.
To fix the error that came up, along with getting your music to show back up properly (without the risks of 3rd party software), you need to restore your iPod. If all of your music is on your computer/in iTunes, you won't loose any of it.
    See this for more info...
iPod: What to do if Windows displays an "itunes.exe - Corrupt File" message
    And if the problem persists...
Da Gopha: What to do if Windows displays an "iTunes.exe - Corrupt File" message
If the iPod was just not showing you the songs even though they are there, the first option would be better. However, since you are getting the chkdsk error, you should/need to restore your iPod.

  • Quick time player 10.3 won't open .mp4 file

I purchased an .mp4 file, downloaded it and tried to play it.  QuickTime Player 10.3 opened automatically.  QuickTime Player error message appeared stating that the application could not open the file.  I went to the Apple Support page that lists files that QuickTime should open and .mp4 was right there on the list.  The file appeared to try to "convert" into something else and then disappeared from the screen (when I clicked on "Tell Me More").
Any ideas on how I can play the file?

Try with vlc, if this doesn't show your video them the file may be corrupt.

  • QTP can't read .mp4 files from JVC HM-100 cam...

My QTP gives me the following message when I try to open an .mp4 file created with a JVC HM-100 camera: "The movie could not be opened. The movie contains some invalid data."
VLC and iSkysoft (video converter) can read the file with no problem, so it can't be corrupt. I put a similar post in a thread about the JVC cam, but no one knew a solution.
Right now, it looks like the only way to convert the mp4 files from the JVC HM-100 is to buy a video converter software for $50 because QuicktimePro, which cost me $30, can't do this, even though it claims to support mp4. Any ideas here?
So in lieu of QTP, are video converters like iSkySoft reliable enough to use? Do I risk losing any quality? Am I forced to pay for 3rd party functionality again that I already paid for in QTP?
    Thanks... David

    Problem solved.
I used the FREE software ffmpegX to convert the mp4 files.
So why does FREE software do the job that PAY software like QTP promises to do, but can't deliver?
    Hmmm?

  • Gopro Mp4 files into Imovie HD 6 Converting or not?

Ok I've heard that it is wise to convert Gopro Mp4 files to quicktime files before editing with Imovie 6.
    1. Is this is a wise (and time consuming) step?
    2. I'm using the Squared5 Mpeg converter and there are lots of codec to choose from. Which one works best for Gopro and Mac and Imovie 06?
    3. I think there is a interlaced unchecked option or something like that-- which one?
Also I'm using Imovie 6 because I know it and like vs the newer versions.  I know the new versions have youtube upload links. Any suggestions on getting Gopro movies edited using Imovie 6 to youtube with with best quality. I need all of the steps and settings.  I'm shooting at 960 on the Gopro.
    Thanks -- Rob

Oh, thank you both so much! These are both extremely helpful replies!
Beverly: thanx for the welcome & thanx for the detailed suggestions of what to try. i will follow your suggestions about the preferences file & disk permissions very shortly here to see if that works. If they don't work & i have to reinstall, does that mean that the iMovie HD 6 that i have is somehow corrupted? If so, how does something like that happen?
Karsten: thanx for mentioning the file names, i DO actually have special characters in the filenames, now that you mention it! i have the forward slash character (/) in most of the filenames, so maybe that's the culprit? Did you say that the underscore character (_) is OK to use? i had no idea that there was a problem using these kinds of characters, is this in the iMovie HD 6 documentation somewhere that i can refer to (i haven't actually read the manual for how to use iMovie HD 6 yet)? Do you (guys) have any idea why iMovie HD 6 might hiccup on the filenames containing these special characters but iMovie HD (5) does not have problems w/them? (When i run iMovie HD (5), it is on Tiger/OS X 10.4.11 & when i run iMovie HD 6, it is on Leopard/OS X 10.5.5.) i have also noticed problems exporting when i try to change the output file name before exporting, so i often just do the export 1st & THEN change the output file name AFTER the export has completed. i wonder if this export problem is related to the import problem possibly due to the special characters in the file names.
Anyway, you've both been very helpful! i'm going to try your suggestions right away! Thanx again! Thank goodness for experienced/expert iMovie HD 6 users like you!

  • Importing a 4.5Gb MP4 file fails.   Why ?

    I rendered out an MP4 file with PremiereCS3 with H264 (standard 740x480) , to 4.5GB.
However, nothing in windows will play it.  Premiere won't even import it back in.
    It says its corrupted.
    I tried exporting it twice.
I exported a smaller 500Mb snippet and it works fine.
I sense its a filesize issue.
Is there a mp4 file - size limit?
(Quicktime and Vegas also won't open it saying its unsupported or corrupted.   Prem says its damaged or unsupported.)

There are no size limits for MP4s.
Try VLC.  It's a very capable player.  If it can't play it, chances are it really is a bad file.
