Corrupt or damaged file after sending to print

I'm using CS3 and when I email files to print they are not able to open bc damaged or corrupt. We use at least 4 printers-this is the only one that has problems with the files.
I've heard I need to save down to CS1 is this correct? Or not necessary-The printer I am sending to have CS3 as well...
They are placing files in Illustrator...but sometimes downloading them and then opening them..
Any suggestions? This is becoming a problem

I'm not up on all of the latest offerings. However...
I hear WinZip is still the most popular. It is supposed to be easy to use.
I use PKZip and like it.
Another option is Smith Micro's StuffIt (which I also keep on my machine), which can create both .zip and .sit/.sitx archives.

Were your PDF documents originally the email attachments opened in Apple Mail on your iPad/iPhone?  Apple Mail may have corrupted your PDF documents.
Please see Problem #1 in the following FAQ document.
How to avoid known PDF email attachment problems
Unfortunately, you are not able to repair the corrupted/damaged files.  However, you can try to reopen PDF attachments using the workaround specified in the FAQ document.

  • Corrupted or Damaged File

I just downloaded the adobe reader for android app.  It will not open a file sent in email.  It says that the document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged. I can open the same file on my desktop using Adobe acrobat standard V 6 and with Adobe Reader X.  Any ideas?

it doesn't open some PDFs now, which previous version seemed to have no problem working with. I don't want to waste your time anymore, though I will just leave you with this:
there is free soft out there in Play Market, which can highlight, work in conjunction with Lingvo (or other dictionary shells), providing handy tools for translation, and it can do simple tasks in elegant and spectacular fashion. Meanwhile you guys in Adobe are eager in adding some functionality, which has nothing to do with everyday reading experience, and you focus on god knows what, but a customer.
Just think about it for a moment... I'm done with using your soft, sorry.

  • Damaged PDFs after sending on email.

    Hi guys,
Reckon you lot can handle this one.
One of my customers has a system that generates pdf files and fires it out via email.
The problem I'm experiencing is on a few of the machines, once the email gets to the recipient, the PDF comes up damaged.
However, if I go into the sent items in Outlook, we can view the PDF no problem.
ALSO, if I find another PDF from somewhere else, not related to the system, and attach it manually to an email, it sends no problem.
If I attach the pdf generated by the system manually, same problem.
The most confusing bit is that its only the recipient that sees it damaged.
    Curious huh?
    Thanks in advance.
    Chris.

If you are constantly experiencing those sending problems I would agree on the last post above and try putting the PDF files in Zip or Winrar files.
Also it would also be useful to do a Binary check of both the original file and the received damaged file. Maybe there is a transfer error with your server. Does this only happen with users that use Outlook or can other users accessing browsers have the same problem?
    Hope this information helps,
    Vicente.

  • Corrupt or damaged files

I was working on a file in indesign when my indesign crashed. Now when I try to open that file it says "Cannot open. The file is damaged and cannot be recovered." Here is the major problem. Not only did this crash affect this document but somehow damaged every document on my desktop. Every indesign document says the same thing when opening. I've tried to open the documents on other computers and they give the same message. Help! I'm about to lose days worth of work.

Joel has, of course, in a backhanded way, asked if you have backups (and by now you probably know the correct answer to that question should always be "of course I do.").
Guessing that you don't, and if nothing else will work to recover -- and one thing that has worked for me once in the past was to open as a copy, which nobody has yet suggested -- then you should evaluate the cost of rebuilding as opposed to paying $200 each for Q2ID and ID2Q from Markzware if you also have Quark Express. Opeing the damaged files in Quark, then opeing the Quark files in ID often will work to mostly or even fully recover your work. If you don't own a Quark license, Markzware will do it for you for about $200 per file, I think, no charge for failures. Depending on the number of files it might even be cost effective to buy a Quark license.

  • Damaged files after a time machine restore

First sorry for my English. It is not my native language.
My brand new imac starts to have strange behaviours (not showing the pictures inside iPhoto sometimes, going backward instead of forward when looking at pictures etc) and I realized that he had a hard disk problem. Imposible to repair using Disk utility so I format the hard drive and restore my timemachine backup.
When it restarts it looks Ok but I have a Damaged files folder with 5 alias that don't show the original ones:
    - com.apple.PowerManagement.plist-lock
    - flatfile.db-journal
    - index
    - index-journal
    - com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
I'm scared that my iMac is still not OK (iPhoto continues not to show me pictures one time and if I close it, everything is restablished). I would like to be sure I'm not going to have problems in a near future so: are these alias important? Do I have to do something with these damaged files (anyhow I don't know where the original are...). What's your advice?
    Thanks!

You do just fine (better than many for whom it is).
    - com.apple.PowerManagement.plist-lock
    - flatfile.db-journal
    - index
    - index-journal
    - com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
Those may have been damaged on your Mac, therefore couldn't be restored.  That could happen regardless of the backup app you used.  Most or all will be recreated if/when needed, automatically.  You may want to check your Energy Saver preferences, though, as it looks like they may need to be reentered.
Keep an eye on things; most likely it's not a big deal, but there's a small chance your internal disk may be developing problems.
By the way, don't be misled by ds store's anti-Time Machine exaggerations.
Clones are good; many of us use and reccomend them, but in addition to Time Machine, not instead of it.  Since both types have advantages and disadvantages, that gives you the best of both, plus the extra insurance of secondary backups.
If you're not sure of the differences, etc., see Time Machine vs. Clones and Archives for an overview.

  • Is it necessary to Stuffit or Zip files before sending to print service?

Is it a good idea to compress a PDF before sending it by email or FTP?  I work on a Mac in CS3 and have not had any problems with file corruption, but have read that this is the safest way to send files. Can high resolution for print jobs still be preserved if files are compressed?  Thanks for any input.

In addition to Nina's: no, ZIP does not prevent corruption. However, it's far easier to detect if a file got corrupted because ZIP makes heavy use of checksumming, to ensure every single last bit (*) is at its proper place in the file. A PDF contains similar checks but on a more basic level.
There are some other differences: if a PDF got mangled in transfer, there is no way to open it. If it's truncated, it might be possible to open it (you'd get a "Repair this file?" prompt) -- but be aware there is no way telling what parts didn't get through.
If a ZIP got mangled or truncated, there is no way to successfully recover it, which usually is what you'd want (because you'd know for sure the transfer failed).
(*) Not really, but the chance it misses anything misplaced is something like one in four billion.

  • T40 missing or corrupted \windows\system file after recovery process

My T40 Thinkpad had a corrupt drive so I secured the recovery disks from IBM to rebuild the hard disk.  The recovery process seemed to work well, but when completed and prompted to remove all disks and reboot, the system booted and failed before Windows XP loaded with an error message that the windows\system file was corrupt or missing.  Any recommendations on how to succesfully recover?  Thanks.

boot off the WinXP Disc and run a repair.  Did it mention the boot.ini file being corrupt, or something else?

  • How to read data after using the PRINT function in visual basic

I know the benchlink can capture the spectrum analyzer screen for me, but I want to integrate it into my application. I use NI spy to detect the communications from the benchlink and put it into my application. After sending the "PRINT 0" command, my "ilrd SpectrumAnalyzer, temp, 500" command doesn't work, giving me EARG error. Does anyone knows if it is because I can not define the temp to be string or some other problem?
b.t.w, the communications I get from NI Spy actually read some unknown characters from the instrument, what kind of data it is? Any idea how to use it?
    thanks.

    Hello elm,
This is completely dependent on your instrument; if you are getting the data then you are halfway there. Look in your instrument's programmer's reference manual to see if they mention how the picture is encoded in bytes. There are so many different ways to encode a picture in binary that speculating and guessing would probably never yield the true result. If there is no mention in the manual, contact the instrument manufacturer.
Sorry I could not be of more help.

  • PDF File is Corrupted or Damaged when the Attachment is Opened

    Hello,
I have three Similar forms which are triggered from Sales Order, Delivery & Shipment respectively. Now, the requirement is to send the Form Output as PDF Attachment in a mail. But the Problem I am facing is that the Shipment Output goes as PDF attachment and when opened, it is displayed correctly. However, when the Sales Order & Delivery PDFs are sent as attachments, then the Adobe Reader says
"The File is Corrupted or damaged hence cannot be opened". This is the Message I get when processed from the Delivery. For the Sales Order, the Mail Output triggers with an error in SOST.
We have the Mail Ports open during Testing and I am using the latest version of Adobe Reader. Can someone give me any resolution to handle the Damaged PDF File?
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Urgent help. Corrupted files after power outage

    Hello Everyone,
we are in desperate need for some help. We have a G5 system with two fully loaded xserve raids all striped together as one unit. We just had a power out and no backup installed while doing a copy procedure with the array to a backup disk. After some time of restarting and shutting down we got the xserve back up and running and are just trying to finish the backup procedure. BUT - while coming back up the xserve raid has still some folder structures and files which seem corrupter while the backup was running. We have working copies of the files, but the xserve raid wont let us delete the damaged files. Even in the Command shell or terminal window we can't delete the files. We don't want to risk going on with the raid system with these corrupted files on it. Does anybody know what to do about the files and if there is any way to delete them. Also - does any disk repair software support the xserve raids or even apples disk repair utility? Anyone any idea. We need to get this puppy up and running tonight, so anything would help.
    Thanks a lot,
    Pete

Yeah, I certainly have some compassion for your situation Gorilla... What you are experiencing is corruption at the file system level, so as other have recommended, your best bet is to use the best file system repair utility (i.e. Disk Warrior, etc.) you can get (sorry I don't have a lot of experience with these). You'll probably lose some files, but the utility should be able to get the file system back into shape so that normal file system commands work (add, delete, etc.).
Because this is a typical problem, I'll quickly explain what happened. I'm guessing you're running your Xserve RAID's with the disk caches enabled (yields best performance). Unfortunately this makes the system very vulnerable to power loss. If the power is lost, all the data in the disk caches is also lost (nothing can be done about this except to put the enclosure on a UPS). If not using a UPS, then it's advisable to disable the disk caches (and also ensure you are using batteries to backup the controller caches).

  • Go to Offline status after sending print in HP

Hi everybody.I have two HP Laserjet 4100. Both of them after sending print from windows go to offline status and an error message appear (Yellow Error BOX in notification area).Printer screen show Ready message. The light on the printer is green and fixed. I connect printer with LPT cable to PC.I can get test print from printer menus without any error. I test printer on windows XP 32bit and windows 7 64bit. I get driver from HP Support And Driver Download Center. I install any type of driver (XP 32bit/7 64 bit/ Universal PCL5)I try to use Doctor Hp to find problem but this application is not support LPT connections. I do Cold reset and reset maintenanc counter (With holding left arrow of Items and Value keys).I used 3 diffrent and new LPT cable. I confused and tired! Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks

Right now it appears you are having communication issues from the computer to the printer since the printer will print test pages.  The first thing you will want to do is use one of the 32bit computers attached with parallel cable to test communication from the port to the printer.  With the printer connected to the port and I assume the lpt port is lpt1, go to start and run and type command and hit enter.  At the prompt that appears in the black box type cd\windows and hit enter. Now at the C:\windows prompt, type dir >> lpt1 and hit the enter key.  Does the printer data light start to flash and does the printer start to print pages.  If it does, then communication is fine and you need to remove and reload the printer using the correct driver.  If it does not print then you have an issue with the port on the computer, the cable or the port on the printer.  Since it happens with two printers I would think that would eliminate the port on the printer.  You may want to check the port setting in the BIOS of the computer.  Most ports are Standard, ECP and EPP.  Best to set the port for Standard when using an old legacy printer.  Good Luck.
