Corrupt OS X - Please help

I have a 10 week old Mac Pro that just went into cardiac arrest.
I hope someone can help here as I have done some critical work since my last back up 3 weeks ago.
Two things to confess first. 1. I have 10 weeks of Mac experience. I am fairly technical on Wintel machines, but just started converting to Mac after years of harassment from a friend. 2. I am an idiot. Read more for details.
Here's why I am an idiot. I took a brand new system and ran a maintenance utility, called Mac Janitor. I am not sure that this is what caused my problems, but it is the only thing I have done to really expose the OS. This was about 1 week ago, or more.
Anyway, over the past 48 hours I started seeing everything periodically lock up. I would be working on simple tasks (in ichat, email, firefox) and everything would freeze. I had mouse control, but could not do anything...I did a hard reboot. This happened 3-4 times in the last 48 hours.
Then the real problem began. I will try to explain this next part to the best of my ability. The last time I did a hard reset, I got the start up tone, then the white apple screen, then the Blue screen; however, before it asked me to authenticate (just after it said "starting OSX"), the window went to a command window like view and started screaming through "code". The it came back to the blue screen, which it never gets past.
The interesting thing is that the next two hard rests I did went though slightly different sequences on the black screen, but both ended up stuck on the blank, blue screen.
Apple support said that it looks like the OS is corrupt, but I an not 100% certain that is correct. They made this assumption after the disk utility tossed an error.
I am not a developer, but it looks like i just cannot connect to my profile. Is there something I can test or is corrupt OS the definitive answer.

Boot with the install disk (restarting, holding down the C key), select your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities->Disk Utility and repair the disk and permissions. If Disk Utility comes back clean on the repair disk action, quit Disk Utility, Utilities->Startup Disk, select the HD, and click Restart. If you get the same problems, then restart again, booting with the install disk, and do an Archive & Install, saving user and network settings, installation.
If Disk Utility can't repair the disk, you'll need something like DiskWarrior to fix the problem.

    It could be Word or even Windows that is having the problem. Before you start trying to restore a backup or repair a file, try opening other documents.

  • Recovery disc for Vista OEMAct Corrupted.. Please help

    Hello,
    I have a Satellite L305-S5933. I created a recovery disc and tried to format, in the middle of the process it said the Disc is corrupted and ended the process and now I cannot proceed with anything.
    I tried to install another Recovery Disc and it said that the Windows needs activation. I tried to enter the key found on the laptop, it said it's not correct.
    I don't know what to do... Please help!!!!!

    Did it say that the Recovery Disk was corrupted or the hard drive?

  • Possible Project Corruption...please help!

    I cannot open a specific Premiere Pro CC 2014 project or it's auto-saved projects or older versions of the project. I was working in the project and Premiere Pro "encountered and error and had to shutdown". Now when I go to open the project I receive an "unknown error occurred while opening the project". I was basically copying one part of a sequence into another project when this all happened. I have 5 projects that are using the same open and I did this in each project up until the last one, which was the one this happened in.
    Wondering what I can do aside from rebuilding this entire project?
    I am on an iMac 5K Retina running OS 10.10.2 and Premiere Pro CC 8.2.0. Not sure how to fix this. Please help?

  • Exporting to .mov for Youtube = corrupted file.  Please help!

    Hi guys. Here's my problem. I created a piece of stop motion animation using iStopmotion. The clip is just over a minute long. I imported it to iMovie so that I could add some sound and some fancy titles/credits. At this point, everything appears to be working fine.
    I then export my finished movie as a Quicktime file so that I can post it on Youtube. If I play back the Quicktime file on my computer, it works perfectly. However, as soon as it's uploaded to Youtube, playback stops at a certain point even though the red time bar continues to the full length of the film. You can drag the little time slider past the point at which the film stops prematurely, but it shows nothing but black and snaps back to the premature cut-off point. I've tried exporting the movie as an mpeg4 file instead and the same thing happens.
    I've even tried going back to the source iStopmotion file, editing it by altering the order of the frames near this problem point - yet when I upload to Youtube it stops playing at exactly the same point. I've tried altering every step of this movie's creating several times but it always freezes at roughly the same point when I'm viewing it on Youtube. I have also tried clearing my browser's cache, no success there either.
    My friend suggested that the file had been corrupted somehow. Please can anyone shed some light on this, as I've spent hours trying to get it to work and am not starting to lose my sanity!

    I've just solved my own problem. It's not an issue with iMovie as such, but I will post my solution here anyway in case anybody else experiences the same problem (and frustration) that I did.
    My iMovie project featured a brief 2-second soundclip as the only soundtrack on the whole film. As soon as this audio clip finished, Youtube stopped playing the movie. I assume this is because Youtube assumed the clip had finished because the sound level had reduced to zero. To fix this, I copied, pasted and muted the audio clip using iMovie so that the rest of the film featured a muted audio track.
    This has solved the problem and now Youtube plays my video in its entirety!

  • Possible corrupted iPod. Please help.

    So, I have had my iPod for about a year now. I haven't had any problems up until maybe a month or two ago. The scroll wheel froze and the buttons were unresponsive. There were no more problems until this morning. When I turned it on it said that I had no music, and when I connected it to the computer, it wouldn't let me sync any songs. Is there any hope in fixing it?

    How do you get a new iPod from Apple?
    I've had my classic since this past christmas (it's the new 120g), and last week, everything got wiped off of my iPod. I'm not sure what happened exactly. I restored it on my computer, and re-synced it. Ever since then, my iPod has been showing the big red X at least once a day. Sometimes I can restart it a couple of times, and it will be fine. Today it happened, and no matter how many times I reset it, it still shows the X. I have it plugged into my computer, but the computer doesn't recognize it. It doesn't show up on My Computer or iTunes or anything. I have no idea how to restore it or what do now.
    Please help me, my iPod is my baby.

  • My IPOD is Corrupted! Somebody PLEASE help.

    This is what comes up when I try to open up my Itunes.
    "The Folder "Itunes" Cannot be found or created, and is required to default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder."
    Also,
    "The File or directory C:\documents and setting\Mike\My Documents\My Music\iTunes is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chddsk utility."
    If somebody can help me out I would really appreciate it. I tried to re-install Itunes but the same problem comes up.

    You really need to run Scandisk on your harddrive, it sounds like it is failing. You can try removing all copies of iTunes and Quicktime (check the Temp directory also) and download and reinstall iTunes and Quicktime.
    This would be a good time to do a backup of your harddrive.
    It is your harddrive that is corrupted, not your iPod.

  • Corrupt recording. Please HELP [$]

    Hello. I have found a bug in the iphone system and is that when you record a large audio session (over 30min), when it finishes and you click stop a wheel starts spinning and if you press done before the spin ends, the audio file becomes corrupt and it can not be played by the iphone, pc, etc.
    I have now two audio recordings that i really need to hear and the files are corrupt. I have tried to fix it with "all media fixer" with my pc and it did not work.
    If you know any way to make the audio file work i would be very apreciated, i can even send some money to some1 if it helps me.

    I don't believe I said my iPod wasn't working properly. I said everytime I tried to put songs onto it, iTunes would show that yes, I had put the songs onto my iPod, but after I unplug the iPod, the songs aren't there. I can't eject it, because when I try, a window pops up that says, "Cannot eject iPod - it is in use", or something along those lines.

    one of my channels is corrupted. Its an audio channel with recorded guitar. I have guitar rig 5 as a plug in. When i try to delete the channel strip logic x just crashes.
    I can only open this file, if i open another session it crashes, if i try to open a new project logic crashes. I know that the cause is due to this channel strip. I can't seem to delete it or open another session to try and copy all of my work.

  • CS6 Download seems to be corrupted...please help!

    I previously successfully downloaded my CS6 Production Premium Suite and CS6 Design Standard Suite from this link: Download CS6 products
    But for some strange reason the download installer (2 files) won't install on either of my laptops (Windows 8 and Windows 7). when I click on the installer and choose an installation destination I get these 3 errors:
    "a problem occured while extracting some files. check available space on your computer and the write priveleges on the destination folder."
    I then Clicked OK and then this error box popped up:
    "a problem occured while extracting the archive. please try downloading the adobe cs6 production premium again."
    I then Clicked OK and then an error box titled "Application error" popped up:
    "Exception EAccess Violation in module ProductionPremium_CS6_Ls7.exe at 001B9836. Access violation at address 0041B836 in module "ProductionPremium_CS6_LS7.exe'. Read of address 00000008."
    Any idea what's wrong? My windows 7 laptop already has the CS6 Design Standard Suite, but the installer provided the same errors on that laptop, so I know it's not a problem with my computers, but with the files. I searched online and didn't find anything.

  • Corrupted Pages File Please Help!

    Hi, saved my pages file last night in two locations. Today that files crashes Pages on either of my computers when I try to open it. Called Apple and they had me throw out the library files and run the disk utility and when those didn't work they told me I was SOL.
    I have lost about 20 hours of writing work and I am desperate to at least save my text.
    Does anyone have any solution that would allow me to open that file and at least pull out the text?
    The computer didn't crash or anything, just situation normal until I tried to open the file again this morning.

    Sorry to hear you're having problems. There is a way to get at the text, but it will strip every bit of formatting from it. Still, that's better than nothing. Try this:
    In the Finder, control-click on the file, and select Show Package Contents from the menu. You'll see a file called index.xml.gz. Double-click on that file, and a new file will be created called index.xml. Double-click on that file, and you should see your text.

  • Log and Transfer - Corrupt Files! please help.

    I received a P2 card, however only half of it will transfer. I am able to preview the other files on the card, however when i drag them to the transfer queue they wont transfer and i get an error with the red stop symbol.
    I think that the camera operator might have changed the recording setup in the camera from HD 720pn to HD 720p25 or HD 720p50 during shooting. Is there a way to save and transfer this media, and if so how?

  • Corrupt fonts? PLEASE HELP CAN'T USE PROGRAMS!!

    When i boot up my computer and try to open my Mail, it won't open. It stalls and i have to force quit. This happens also with Safari, system preferences etc. But i can get into photoshop and some other non-system programs. i have logged out and gone into another profile and everything works fine. Sometimes when i log back into my profile, everything works fine but other times i have to restart cuz it won't log in, it freezes. then i have to restart and try this all over again. I have loaded quite a few fonts on my profile and i believe that some of the fonts, potentially system fonts, have been corrupted and that;s affecting the programs. My question is; Is there a way to fix this problem without having to reinstall os x?

    Hi Jason,
    First see if it's just corrupt font cache files. Download and run Font Finagler. If that doesn't do it and you're using Font Book, try this. Follow the steps in Undoing Font Book. Note that you will lose any font collections you have created. Doing this will also clear the system's font cache files.
    If after that you're still having trouble, then the fonts are the likely problem. To replace all fonts OS X came with without having to install the entire OS, follow the instructions at the bottom of my article, Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther.
    If after that the problems persist, then one or more of the third party fonts you've added are bad.

  • Airport inactive no IP address...corrupted driver?    Please help!!!

    My Mac minis airport went down today and would not accept my router password.     System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
    System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
    The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
    Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
    For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
    If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.
