Corrupt Photo thumbnails

Hi,
I have a current (3rd) gen iPod touch 32 GB. Currently running iOS 4. I sync to a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.8 I also have iPhoto 09. All updated with the latest updates.
Now, when I sync all the photos from my iPhoto library, they all sync fine, no errors, but when I view them on the iPod, the thumbnail previews are either white, or corrupt images, but when I tap on the image, it's fine. It's doing this with about 40% of the images, mostly ones from the internet (as opposed to images from my digital camera). I've had this issue on iOS 3.X as well, so it's not due to iOS 4.
I've copied my images to my PC, and done a reset on the iPod, and syned from the PC, same issue. So it's not the PC/Mac, it must be the images, but they're fine on the PC/Mac, previews etc fine on there, only on the iPod

Hi!
I've just updatd my iOS from 4.0 to 4.0.1. After phone restore my photos under "camera reel" are corrupted (black blocks instead of thumbnails) and Photo application crashes when I tap "Locations". How I can fix it?

  • Corrupting photos on my Satellite M50

    Hi,
I have a Satellite M50-130 and have just started having a problem with photo files.
They have started to corrupt and the preview comes up with the words 'drawing failed' or 'no preview available'.
I can still see the thumbnail picture but the info for the file, ie the size and what camera was used is gone.
I'm not sure why this is happening and it doesn't appear to have stopped. I have opened old folders with photos in and found that one or two have corrupted.
It could have been from using ad-aware I guess. I did a system restore to another time but this didn't fix the problem.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello James
Please do not be mad on me but I do not see any connection between described issue and Toshiba as notebook manufacturer.
In my opinion corrupting photos has something to do how you use your notebook and the whole stuff you have preinstalled on it. The fact is that under well running operating system you will be able to open all jpeg and bmp files (if not damaged).
Which kind of photos you have (jpeg or something else)? Have you tried to open this files on some other PC?

  • IPhoto 6 corrupted photos

Here I am back 2 yrs later with the same problem that has never been solved and is only worse now. i photo continues to corrupt photos and they become only available as little thumbnails. Trying to rebuild is impossible because of individual Alert msg. that orig item cannot be found. This becomes daunting because there are probably 1200 to 1500 lost. Trying to create and populate a new library takes immense patience too because there are over 500 rolls some with only one photo in them. 2/3's of original photos are on DVD but many aren't. I use Super Duper to an external hard drive and have found out that the backup has just replicated the latest corruption every time I backup "newer files". I should mention that if I ever search via spotlight or search window in iphoto6 for a photo that has been corrupted that once it starts it makes me go through individually searching for every photo and won't let me out until I finally have to shut down the hard drive. TD was helping me b4. Anybody have any new ideas? Thanks

I'm sorry but you're not explaining how iPhoto is corrupting photos. What you're describing is how the database file is damaged and it's too long to fix?
The solution to the problem is one of the problem regardless of the time it takes:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

The 15 day return past, as I'm in Brazil and I'm only going to be in the us again in the 17th... what should I do? Any test sugestion? Is it software or bad blocks?

  • Corrupted Photo Hides iPhoto Library from other iLife apps

I was recently using iMovie HD to create a movie for church and wanted to insert some still images given to me by the pastor. I imported the images into iPhoto, but found that iMovie reported that I needed to "Launch iPhoto 2 or later to populate this list."
I am a regular user of iPhoto 6 for my own personal needs, and have launched it dozens of times on my computer, so this puzzled me. I checked the help files and found under the article entitled "I don't see any photos in the Photos pane," which simply says that I must be using iPhoto 4 or higher and have opened iPhoto at least once, both of which are true, but I relaunched iPhoto just in case, but to no avail.
Checking to see if the problem was with iMovie, I found that I also had no access to my photos from iDVD, so the problem seems to be with iPhoto.
I also checked out Apple's support database, and found the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75491, "iLife: Cannot See iPhoto Files in Other iLife Applications." Following these instructions, including the recreation of the XML file, yielded no positive results.
After some experimenting with iPhoto/iMovie on other computers and in other accounts, I found that when I imported a particular set of pictures was when the pictures disappeared from iMovie. I tried deleting these pictures from my own main iPhoto library, but the problem was not solved. I finally found out that once the corrupted photo had been imported into iPhoto, nothing I would do would allow the iPhoto pictures to be viewable from other applications.
I eventually solved this by renaming my iPhoto library, using GraphicConverter to convert the suspect files in batch mode and importing the converted files into a new iPhoto library. This at least allowed me to get the movie finished, but I now have two iPhoto libraries on my computer, only one of which is visible to other iLife applications.
I found out that if I held down some keys while launching iPhoto, I would be given the option to rebuild the iPhoto library using four checkboxes: Rebuild small thumbnails, Rebuild all thumbnails, Rebuild Library database and recover orphaned photos. I've done all four to no effect.
So, after all of that, my final question is, is it possible to restore my iPhoto library such that I can again access it from other iLife applications without losing the many albums I've created?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

So far, no go with iPhoto Library Manager, although the program and the help files that come with it have suggested some leads.
First of all, when I open iPhoto Library Manager, it reports:
The album data file for this library is malformed.
    XML parser errors:
Encountered unexpected character k on line 59525
    Old-style plist parser error:
Malformed data byte group at line 1; invalid hex
So I opened AlbumData.xml in BBEdit and checked out line 59525 (as suggested by the iPhoto Library Manager help files) and found that it looked like this:
    <string> <key>274</key>
    Above it is the line:
    <key>771</key>
Most <key><string> pairs look like this:
    <key>XXX</key>
    <string>KeywordName</string>
So for some reason, the problem line isn't closing the string tag. I tried editing the keyword that came after the problem line, but it didn't fix the parse error. From what I can tell, manually editing the AlbumData.xml file won't solve the problem, as iPhoto only writes to it for other applications, and doesn't read it. The next time I launch iPhoto, it would simply write the same data.
I also checked for the string 771 in the file as that's the keyword ID that appears before the parse error, but it's only found in relation to an album and a roll.
Because of this, iPhoto Library Manager can't rebuild the library. However, the help files do offer the author's email address, and it's obvious that he's spent time looking into this type of problem (the help files describe exactly the problem behavior I'm having with the error message seen in iMovie). So I'm going to zip up the AlbumData.xml file and send it to him. While I do that, I may look through the keywords more closely and see if any of them look like they have suspect characters. Perhaps renaming them will solve the problem.
Of course, this keyword clue doesn't explain why importing un-keyworded photos would cause the problem in the first place, but if I can get it fixed, I'll be happy.

  • IPhoto 11 upgrade corrupted photos, Photo showing up black white outlines

I am going to post in the iPhoto and Time Machine forums. I tried to upgrade to the iPhoto 11, and bunch of my photos are now showing up blank with white outlines. I would only say that about half of my photos between July 4th and when I did the upgrade are showing up in this manner.
I went back to iPhoto 9 and tried to restore my iPhoto Library back to the point just before I upgraded. When I go into iPhoto "Browse backup" it still shows the the photos blank with white outlines. Also on the right side of Time Machine there are only white bars until Nov 17th. The bars before then are gray. What does this mean?
Any suggestions on how to recover the corrupt photos?

Are you sure the photos are corrupt? Sounds like the thumbnails need to be rebuilt to me: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

User profile sync Sharepoint 2010 photos thumbnail with AD and Lync 2010 - error on Full Synchronization- get events 8311, 6110, 6803 FIMSynchronization Service
We're trying to set up sync between Sharepoint and AD so photos are displayed in Lync.
The certificate referenced in 8311 is not the sharepoint root cert, its the UCC cert with our FQDN of the site. sharepoint.domain.com
Is this causing the problem with the sync and holding up the photos?
I have tried several proposed fixes, it hasn't helped.

  • URGENT - Corrupt photo file

Can anyone help with the following error message :
    Unable to Assemble Book
There is a problem with the photo with the file name "DSC_0090.JPG" The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace the photo or delete it from you book.
My problem is that this photo is not even in my book and I have tried to delete it and reload another copy but am still getting this annoying message.

Finally I could order the photo book. I figured out, that you cant't open these "corrupt" files in iPhoto: you get a big "?" on black background when you open these pictures in iPhoto (e.g. Events). But I could open without problems the "corrupt" files in the iPhoto library (in Apple Finder). So what I did is: "repair" these "corrupt" photos by reimporting these files into iPhoto (got doubles) and then deleted the "corrupt" ones from iPhoto. After doing the same within the photo book, everything worked fine.
The question remains: how did I get these "corrupt" photos in iPhoto? The process of rebuilding the iPhoto databases (press alt-cmd at start of iPhoto) somehow did not work.

  • Rearranging photo thumbnails in Organizer window

Is there a way to rearrange photo thumbnails manually in the Organizer? Most software enables a drag-and-drop function but apparently not here. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Philip
In the full Organizer, the Views available (lower left corner) are Newest, Oldest, Folder and Import Batch. Within the full Organizer, I don't believe you can do as you wish.
If you make a collection, you can re-arrange the images within the collection by dragging and dropping. This is often used to re-arrange pictures for a specific project, making a slide show or web page say.
I guess in theory you could create a collection that included all your pictures and then drag and drop within that. Never tried this so you may run into some kind of file limit.

  • Photo stream "public website" in Internet Explorer - photo thumbnail's are gray, individual photo view is fine. Tested from various computers. No issue with Firefox, Safari or Chrome.

    Dear All,
Recently I have started to use Photo Stream available from iCloud on iPhone device. I have made “test” photo stream with several photos in and set to “public website” in order to share photos with my relatives.
The issue is with Internet Explorer where list of photos (thumbnails) are shown in gray color. I can view photo one by one and slideshow also works fine.
On other computers IE behaves the same way.
    https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A2532ODWsAl87
No issue with photo list in thumbnails using Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
Can someone help on this issue?
It is very convenient to share photos via photo stream, but most of viewers by default has IE and many of them don’t have iCould account or apple device.
    Kind regards,
    M

    Dear safari rss
Indeed, you are right, I have updated IE to version 10 and no issue with page view.
Solution woud be to update IE to version 10 (I have not tested IE9).
However users using Windows XP can have highest IE version 8. IE9 or IE10 is not suported in XP.
Unfortunatelly there are still many windows XP at my friends circle.
    Thank you,
    Best regards

  • Re error 8 message/corrupt photo when trying to buy a photo book

I am trying to upload a photo book, which I have done many times before, and this message comes up: "com.apple.chameleon.component
General.error 8." The book  stops uploading at page 4 and sites a corrupt photo. How do I find out which photo is causing the problem? The same thing happens when I try to preview the book. Help!

Remove the photos on page 3 and preview - if it works re place the photos on p 3 oneone and  preview until you find the problem photo - if the problem is not on p 3 then  do the same on p4 and p5 is necessary

  • Z2 Corrupt Photos

    Hi All,
Just got back from an awsome holiday in Cornwall where I took loads of fantastic photos to find that when I copied the photos off the phone onto my PC a large portion, 20-30 or so couldn't be opened by any software on my pc.
Looks likemy z2 has corrupted a large number of consecutive photos from before I went on my holiday to yesterday that have been stored on my SD card.
They displayed fine in the album app but won't display in the photos app or upload in the facebook. all i get is the mountain pic on each photo.
This isn't the 1st time it's done it, i lost a few photos a month ago but put it down to a one off. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm guessing that even though the data is there for the photos, theres no way of restoring them?
What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

Yeah, i check my photos after taking them. thats what makes this problem so annoying! The albumn app must have saved the thumbs of the corrupt photos so i didn't even notice there was an issue until i took them off the phone onto my pc. It must have done it only a day or two ago as i even uploaded a photo from my hols to facebook without any issue.
I'm going to take the phone back to where I got it from and see what they suggest. It's not an issue I'm prepared to live with.

  • Viewing photo thumbnails in an event is there a way to display file info?

    Hi,
When viewing photo thumbnails in an open event is there a way to set the program display file info like filename and date under each thumbnail? Right now I have to look at the bottom left info pane and highlite each thumbnail to compare file datesand it's a PAIN.

Nope, I can get these options when I'm in Events, in a specific Event.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly:
I would like to be able to just open a specific event and have the thumbnail grouping display filename... and not have to scroll through the whole list of Photos.
Do you mean you want a text listing of the pics with no thumbnails?
    Regards

  • Photos (thumbnails) in iPod Classic got "corrupted"

I have no idea of how to describe with words, this is a shot of what's going on with my iPod.
    http://bdweb.no-ip.com/Images/iPodClassicPhotos.jpg
It happens on some photos in my iPod, they can be viewed as normal pictures by clicking the centre button, but the thumbnail are corrupted.
I've already tried to restore the iPod, which is no good. All pictures were synchronised from iPhoto.
    Thanks!

Make sure that all your software (iTunes, iPhoto, and the software on the iPod) is up-to-date.
Then, go through the restore process once more...
    Restore iPod
Everything should be deleted off the iPod, and don't put the pictures back on yet. Uncheck the option to synchronize pictures. Let the iPod update with all of your music and eject it when it's done.
Now, go back and reconnect the iPod and put the pics on. See if they load properly.
Finally, does everything work okay in iPhoto? Are there any errors, weird messages when syncing w/ iTunes, etc.?

  • IPhone photos corrupt, but thumbnails okay

My husband's iPhone 4 is having an intermittant issue where he'll take a picture and seconds later, the photo "corrupts". Half the picture (usually the bottom half) turns grey. The thumbnail still looks okay. No rhyme or reason that we can tell. From research, it looks like it's possibly something to do with PhotoStream and saving, but not sure.
Any thoughts on how to fix the issue and/or recover the photos?

Even if you get them off somehow, they are not the full resolution photos that were stored on your computer to begin with. They were optimized for the phone. With the exception of the camera roll, photo sync was never intended to be 2 way. It is one way. Computer > Phone.
Restore your photo library from your Time Machine Backup. You did make a backup before you wiped your computer, right?
