Corrupt PNG?

I've been working on a project in Fireworks CS4 the last couple weeks, and today I cannot open the PNG file. Nothing out of the ordinary happened recently and I haven't had any issues with the software. The message I get when opening the file is "Could not open the file. Unknown file type." I've tried opening the document in Photoshop, Illustrator and Paint (the only other image editing programs I have) and none have worked. Also, Windows does not show the preview of the document when viewing it in explorer.
I have also tried having two colleagues open the document in both CS4 and CS5 and both had the same problem.
Prior to attaching the document, I'm curious if there is anythign else I can try. Thanks in advance.

I attempted everything I stated in my original post prior to moving the file. Also, I would be quite surprised if the location of a file was a factor in the validity of the file. Given my line of work, I constantly shuffle these types of files around and have never had this problem before.
No, I cannot open the file in Paint or Preview. A thumbnail does not show in Windows Explorer. IrfanView also did not work.
Any other ideas?

  • Invalid binary - corrupted png file

    I've tried three times now to update my app that is already on the app store. Every time I loaded the new binary, about a minute later it was rejected. I then get this email response:
    Corrupt Icon File - The icon file [email protected] appears to be corrupt.
    Can somebody please help me out with this if you have seen the samething?
    Thanks

    OK, after attempting a million different fixes nothing worked until...
    I did a google search for corrupt pngs and invalid binaries. I came across a post about some kind of bug in xcode 4.3.1 that compresses pngs which causes the invalid binary message. So, on this hunch I resaved all my pngs without compression and PROBLEM SOLVED!
    If anybody else has a similar problem this seems to be the root.

  • Corrupted PNG files

    I'm running the trial version of Aperture 3, and haven't had any problems with installation, using various tools, etc.. But... today, when paging through the library, I noticed that many of my PNG images with alpha masks are corrupted. I exported versions of them to check to see if it was just the browser window, but found that the files themselves are corrupted, with big blocky distortions around the perimeter of the masked image.
    Luckily, I haven't erased my iPhoto library, (and I have backups) or I would've lost those images.

    carotids , it appears that your image has an indexed-color color space. Aperture is designed to work with RGB color space. Converting it to RGB prior to importing should bring it into Aperture successfully. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3051

  • Not opening PNG

    Why is it when I create a PNG file in fireworks and save it
    as such does it not open automatically with fireworks? Meaning that
    when I click on the icon it brings up the "Open with" box, and
    Fireworks is not an option. (not only is it not an option, but
    nothing happens with I search out Fireworks) How do I fix this? I
    realize this is more likely a windows problem, but it does not
    happen to any other file type, so I thought I might get the answer
    here.

    Hi Gary (assuming that it is your name, no?) :)
    Anyways, I am not sure if I fully understand the nature of
    your problem not able to open your PNG file in Fireworks.
    Which version of Fireworks are you working with?
    Tell me what exactly steps did you save the PNG file, if you
    remember what steps. There are "two" kinds of PNG files that
    Fireworks works with. First one is native, raw PNG specifically
    formated for Fireworks' functionality purpose, I believe. The
    obvious 2nd format is PNG specifically designed for web PNG format,
    it is technically totally different from raw, native Fireworks PNG
    format.
    Finally, I am not sure how or what caused the problem you are
    experiencing. It could be the case of corrupted PNG file, I don't
    know.
    And also be sure to state the exact version of WIndows, too.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • OpenGL ES missing Texture

    I'm having an issue here that some textures keep missing. I have a huge load of textures here, so I think it should be that the video memory is full. I just want to know how can I obtain the total video memory available and/or receive any error from opengl when memory is full. My glGenTextures and glBindTexture just works without any errors.
    If memory is not a problem (I made a semple to load 100 512x512 textures here and looks like it works perfectly, so I think there is enough memory) what can happen so some of my textures keep missing (or either, it just get the any other randomly texture and use in the place!)

    I was getting a corrupt PNG error when using Apple's standard EAGL View.
    Try something like this ...
    NSString* file = [[NSString alloc] initWithUTF8String:filename];
    UIImage *img = [UIImage imageNamed:file];
    CGImageRef imageRef = CGImageRetain(img.CGImage);
    size_t width = CGImageGetWidth(imageRef);
    size_t height = CGImageGetHeight(imageRef);
    void * data = calloc(width * 4, height);
    CGRect rect = {{0, 0}, {width, height}};
    CGColorSpaceRef space = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB();
    CGContextRef myBitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreate (data,
    width, height, 8,
    width*4, space,
    kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast);
    CGContextDrawImage(myBitmapContext, rect, imageRef);
    CGContextRelease(myBitmapContext);
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is PNG opacity corrupt in CS6?

    My platform is Win7-64. PS-64 is just completely buggy so I use PS-32 to fill a gray #999 rectangle and give it 90% opacity for a DW navigation feature in development (Canada and UK). When I place the transparent PNG in the DW CSS3 code, the HTML5 browser output applies the opacity to all menu (visible navigation) text. Code is never changed, but something in the CS6 background is causing the unwanted opacity transfer. When a CSS3 id or class selector is provided an "opacity" value of say 0.9, then all text should be 90% opaque. But on my DW page there is no code to style opacity.
    I have not applied any "opacity" elements or properties. There is no way to turn the browser display of opacity off using code. The opacity corruption displays in all browsers. Worse yet, repeated edits of the PNG to remove the opacity in PS increase the opacity in DW. After several PS edits of a PNG with 90% opacity, then what appears in browsers looks more like 30% or 20% opacity. The PS workspace is poor at viewing opacity on a Pro-Art display, but I think PS is not displaying correctly either. Accompanying the 20-30% browser corruption, in one afternoon PS seems to display something like 60-80% opacity even though fresh PNG file edits are all set to 90% opacity: that is, PS display is corrupting like the browsers' display, but slowly.
    Why is DW CS6 applying opacity from PS CS6 without any user input of CSS3 opacity code?
    Message was edited by: Mark.Stewart to clarify that opacity is NOT being coded into web pages: somehow browsers Chrome and IE both are involved in the PS-DW opacity issue. -- 130207-2211

    Repeated edits of the PNG to remove the opacity in PS increase the opacity in DW.At the time that this CS6 opacity corruption issue occurs, Creative Cloud's Adobe Application Manager has setup the following programs.
    Adobe Acrobat Distiller XI, Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, Adobe AIR Updater, Adobe Application Manager, Adobe Audition CS6, Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit), Adobe Bridge CS6, Adobe Creative Cloud Connection, Adobe Dreamweaver CS6, Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6, Adobe Extension Manager CS6, Adobe Fireworks CS6, Adobe FormsCentral, Adobe Help, Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit), Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 64-bit, Adobe Widget Browser, Lightroom 4.3 64-bit.

  • .PNG files into Motion 3 are always corrupt. (With sample)

    It seems to be hit and miss when it comes to importing .png with full transparency into motion 3. They look corrupt and almost reversed. Does anybody know what this could be? I have included a screen shot to show you how they look.
    Export >
    Result >

    Howdy,
    I just tried with a few alpha-using PNGs from PS CS4 and I see what's happening. It looks like Motion is guessing that transparent PNGs from PS have inverted alpha, which jibes with your screenshot. In Motion, try selecting one of your PNGs, hit Shift+F to shortcut to the source media's settings in the Media tab of the Inspector, then uncheck the 'Invert Alpha' checkbox.
    Not sure why this happens with PNGs from Photoshop. It doesn't affect PSD files or PNGs from other apps that I've tried.

  • Corrupt Screen Shots (png and tif)

    Hi
    I and a few screen shots which I took some months back using the 'shift-command-3' key combination. They were saved in .png and .tif formats.
    I opened them today to find that the .png ones were all black (i.e., corrupted) and the .tifs appeared in negative 'white and black' images rather than colour.
    Any idea what's gone wrong here? Or how to recover the images?

    The easiest way to change the format is to download the free app OnyX. In OnyX go to Parameters/General and change the screen shot format to jpg. From that point forward the screen shots you take with those keyboard commands will be jpgs.

  • PNG file is corrupt

    Hi,
    I found my old Fireworks files but now 8 of 10 cannot be opened. Can anyone help?
    The preview of the corrupt files are also not showing the file.
    Would be great if someone could try to open one of my files to check if it is only my local environment that fails.

    Hi Linda,
    The file is 9.3MB unzipped, so can't upload i here :-) I've uploaded it to my dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8983901/Corrupt.zip
    It's zipped to avoid any chance of further "transport corruption".

  • All  my pngs are corrupting

    Yesterday, I think Fireworks was updated through my adobe
    updater. I should have paid more attention, but I hit 'OK' and I
    think it updated Fireworks and Dreamweaver to Version 9.01. I
    finished this giant ping with all these complex graphics and
    rollovers and saved it and closed it. I went to open it later and I
    got 'unknown file type'. None of my backups would open except for
    one that Fireworks automatically saved the day before. I redid most
    of the work, using this older version and exported to DW...the
    graphics all exported fine but the HTML doc was just blank with
    some question marks. I closed the png, quit firefox, got the
    'unknown file type' message again. So now I'd designed this png
    twice and lost it. I restarted. Still no luck. So I recreated it
    again. I didn't close it until I successfully got the page to DW.
    Now I discover that DW has lost all my sites in 'Manage Sites'! So
    I redo all the info for my ftp, etc for this particular site. I get
    the page done, close the png and just to check, try opening it and
    my backups and they're all 'unknow file type' errors!! What is
    going on???

  • Corrupted Fireworks CS3 PNG file

    I was half way through saving my huge PNG (15 pages worth)
    when the power went out and now I can't even open it (could not
    open the file, unknown file type).
    Is there any way I can fix my it?
    I did make a backup copy of it yesterday but I have several
    hours of work done on it today...
    Thanks for any info.

    Lisa,
    I don't know of anyway to recover your lost work this time.
    Be greatful
    you had a backup from yesterday.
    As a consolation, for the future, there is an extension that
    once
    installed allows you to specify a period of time (hours/
    minutes) to
    auto save the file for you.

  • After using an ExtendScript (via ESTK) Illustrator becomes corrupted and "Can't open illustration."

    Hey, thanks for reading.
    I'm having a strange problem with Illustrator CS5 and ESTK CS5. I'm new to writing ExtendScripts, so I haven't a clue what could be going wrong here but here's the skinny:
    I've written the following code, which is very specialized to the exact document I'm working with. Using the ExtendScript Toolkit, the script goes through the following loops:
    The primary problem:
    For some reason, running this script causes Illustrator to become somehow corrupted. I can continue working with the document as long as it is open, but if I try to close it and re-open it, I get the infuriatingly unhelpful error dialog "Can't open illustration." With no extra details.
    The same error comes up if I try to open any other .ai files. Shutting down and rebooting doesn't fix the problem. I have to completely uninstall Illustrator, then re-install it before it will work again. And even then, if I try to open the ExtendScript-corrupted file the whole Illustrator app gets corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
    Oh, also Illustrator itself shows up as "(Not responding)" while the script is running, but the ESTK console clearly shows that the script is chugging along as expected.
    Specifics about the script:
    There are 4 "Buttons" on the document, and a library full of nearly-identical symbols in the Library (different colored backgrounds for the buttons).
    The script cycles through every symbol in the library, replacing and deleting instances of the previous symbol.
    Then, for each symbol, it cycles through an array (technically an object-literal) of { language-code: "string" } pairs, and saves a .png of each artboard for each word.
    What follows is a pared-down version of the full script:
    (I tried to add a few $.sleep(10); calls, hoping that maybe just a brief slowdown in the processes might help. It didn't.)
    This script (in its original form) outputs a ton of files very, very quickly.
    Script Example
    var folder = Folder.selectDialog();                     // Ask for a folder choice.
    var aDoc = app.activeDocument;                        // Declare an active Document reference.
    var textLayer = aDoc.layers.getByName('text');   // Get the text layer, for moving it back/forward
    var textFrms = aDoc.textFrames;                       // Get all text frames, for language swap
    var allSymbols = aDoc.symbols;                         // Get array of all symbols in the symbol library
    var allSymbolItems = aDoc.symbolItems;            // Get an array of all symbol instances in the active document
    var helpTextArray =
        en: "help",
        az: "Kömək",
        cs: "Nápověda",
        da: "Hjælp",
        de: "hilfe",
        el: "Bοήθεια",
        en: "help",
        es: "ayuda",
            * There's normally 3 arrays with many more languages / translations
    if( aDoc &&                                      // We have an activeDocument
         folder &&                                    // and we have a selected output folder
         allSymbols.length > 0 &&             // We've got symbols
         allSymbolItems.length > 0 &&      // and we've got symbol instances "symbolItems"
         textFrms.length > 0 ) {                 // and we've got textFrames to manipulate.
        // For each symbol in our symbol library...
        for(var i = 0; i < allSymbols.length; i++) {
            // Run through all instances of symbols (symbolItems), and replace with a different symbol.
            for(var ii = 0; ii < allSymbolItems.length; ii++) {
                // Move text layer out of the line of fire.
                $.writeln('Move text to back');
                textLayer.zOrder(ZOrderMethod.SENDTOBACK);
                var currObj = allSymbolItems[ii];

    Are there best practices that I'm unaware of here that could be causing this corruption?
    Does anyone know what could be happening?
    The only error I ever get is "Can't open illustration." There's never anything more helpful, so I have no idea what could be going wrong.
    If there's any more information that would be of use to anyone I'd be happy to share. This is wasting a lot of my time and making me pull my hair out like crazy,

    I have not had the time to look over your script but at a glance there are a few things I would handle differently…
    Firstly returning a document to a given state… If you play with this snippet you can see that app.undo() returns to the last called app.redraw() if there is one else it undo's the whole script…
    #target illustrator
    doSymbols();
    function doSymbols() {
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
        var sym = doc.symbols[0];
        for ( var i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) {
            var foo = doc.symbolItems.add( sym );
            foo.position = Array( i * 72, -( i * 72 ) );
            app.redraw(); // Comment this out to see…
        app.undo(); // Returns to last redaw state if any…?
    Secondly your symbols… You know you can just change the symbol instance's symbol reference…? If they are almost the same particualy size then its an easy swap…?
    #target illustrator
    doSymbols();
    function doSymbols() {
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
        var sym = doc.symbols[1]; // Next symbol in the palette
        for ( var i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) {
            doc.symbolItems[i].symbol = sym;
            app.redraw();

  • Apple mail in mountain lion cannot download many attachment (corrupt)

    I have the same problem on all my macs, and also my friends. That includes:
    - MacBook Pro 17"
    - MacBook Pro 13"
    - MacBook 13"
    The problem is that almost every email attachment is corrupt. It means it can in most cases not be opened, except for photos and then they just show some grey area where it's not loaded.
    - that all attachment can perfectly be opened on all my iOS devices. 2x iPhone 4, 1x iPad1, 1x iPad2, ipad4, 2x iPhone5
    - the problem accures with many files types, but PDF, excel, png, jpg, doc, igs are some I have tried.
    I think the problem comes from slow or irregular internet speed. Obviously that should not be an issue and isnt with any other mail program.
    This problem is so bad that I'm thinking of switching the mail app as its basically useless. I tried thunderbird and all attachments were loading properly. But it had other issues.
    I found a solution that works around this to at least work. Its still not solving it, but at LEAST i can get the mails attachments and work with them, rather than having to forward the mail from my iphone.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/answers/how_to_fix_corrupted_imap_attachments_in_ apple_mail/
    Basically 2 solutions: I prefer option 2, as it can be done fast and each time the issue happens.
    1) click the mailbox that has the issues
    go to Mailbox in the status and click "Rebuild"
    This will re-download all mails. its a bit overkill, but it works.
    I've tried this and it also does not download the mails correct. In the end it just shuffles which mails are loaded this time.
    2) create a new mailbox inside the main IMAP mailbox account
    move or copy the message with the broken attachment there
    now do option 1) only for this mailbox
    then move the repaired message back.
    Same this still not guarantee the attachment.
    Such a stupid issue!!!!!

    Dear All,
    its driving me mental!!! Its now almost every mail attachment that does not load correct! there must be something that can be done.
    I also am not the only one.
    Please help.

  • Images corrupted in application package.

    Hi All,
    I am using .png images in my application. After building the application. It creates myfirst.app ... if I right click it in finder and select "Show package Content" .. it shows list of resources. If I try to open the images (.png) ... some of those images are corrupted. But it the app works fine on the device .. and the images displayed are just fine.
    Why does it show's corrupted in package? I am trying to upload it to the app store. I get following message ..
    "The binary you uploaded was invalid. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate."
    can it be the same image issue?
    thanks.
    Kiran

    yes .. there was an option in the project settings which was compressing the images automatically .. I unchecked it .. and few changes in the project settings ... it worked ..
    thanks for the reply ..

    I recently purchased an 80gb ipod classic and when I came home to connect it to my computer, itunes opened and the following message appeared:
    iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod
    I just got this, and had never even turned it on, so how can it already be corrupted? I tried disconnecting and then reconnecting the ipod, to no avail. I then restored the ipod, again still message. I even quit iTunes and then reopened it, and still it says the same thing.
    Here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

    Any idea on what's going on? This is really annoying/frustrating considering it's brand new.
    ughh

    Thanks, I ended up getting the newest version of iTunes (I had 7, just not 7.7 or whatever that little insignificant update was) and then tried again. This time, itunes itserlf wouldn't even open because that version of itunes only worked with Mac OS X 10.4.10, and I had 10.4.4
    I did a software update for my OS, which I HATE doing because of all the glitches and possible problems associated with updates but restarted the computer.
    After doing Opaldad's helpful tip, I connected the ipod and restored it. After that, its working perfectly.
    Thanks for the help
    and to anyone who has this in the future, make sure you have the current version of itunes and your OS
    Now, just have to wait for my 14 gb of music to upload
