Corrupted 3.0 software

Can the software corrupt over time?
I had battery life issues (6hrs), and took it to the genius bar. He said it was a software issue,to restore from new, but if it didn't improve i could take it back there
So I did, and the first two days it got better (yet still subpar {7hrs with 3g, location services, and push off}) battery life
Now i have a max of 5 hrs of battery life with the same settings.
So did the software corrupt over time?
Should I get a replacement phone?

You could have a badly written app that is creating issues. Try restoring without reloading your apps and see how it does.

  • Corrupted disc utility software

My disc utility software locks up every time I try to use it. It appears to be corrupted. How can I replace it?

Thanks for your helpful note. I am using a MacBook Air, and the hardware has been tested recently and found to be in good working order (for an unrelated reason). When I am home I connect the portable to an Apple desktop screen and some outboard disc drives that I use for backup storage. I use more than one backup drive because I have experienced drive failures in the past.
Can you explain why the disc utility keeps locking up?

  • Level 5 RAID Corrupted Config, Need Software Advice.

    Hello,
Please excuse the fact that this is not a question about an Xserve RAID.
I have a level 5 RAID, the config table on the controller card has become corrupted. Can anyone here offer any advice on software I could use to rebuild the config and recover the data?
It doesn't matter if it is Windows software, I would prefer software that I can run on my Mac but I am willing to try anything as long as it can handle a HFS+ Level 5 RAID.
Again sorry for posting this question here, but I am desperate, and need advice from other Mac users.
    Thanks,
    Anil.

If it's not XServe RAID then I don't think anyone here can offer any advice other tan very generic "talk to the manufacturer".
Each vendor's RAID 5 implementation is going to be a little different. Without knowing how they format or layout the disks there is zero chance of recovering the data directly off the disks. That said, even if it WAS an XServe RAID, the same issues would apply - you can't read the disks directly to get the data.
The vendor might be able to provide some clues. It might be possible to swap the drives into another identical chassis, the controller might be field-replaceable, or a professional data recovery company might be able to help ($$$$). But, as I said, these are options that are independent of the vendor.

  • Corrupted Communties app + Software update made t...

I have this three month old C3-00 phone with a corrupted Nokia Communities app. I wanted to uninstall, then reinstall it, but it is not in the app list on the phone nor in the Nokia Store nor in the Nokia Suite. I installed Nokia Suite on my desktop, then connected the phone to the computer via an USB cable and went in Nokia Suite mode. I made a backup, then upgraded the Nokia software to its latest version. Since then, it didn't solved anything, just made the things worst than ever. The phone doesn't stop from shutting down and restarting itself all the time. Two hard resets later, nothing has changed and even just charging the battery can't be done without the turn off / turn on thing going on every minute or so.  I am now at the point wondering if I stuck with a 3 month old useless lemon or if there's still a way to fix both issues (get rid of this Communities app forever + fixing the repetitve crashes and restarts). I googled the forum and the internet for solutions, but I can't find anything good for this case.  Any help?

Contact the App Store directly with your Apple I.D.- they will help you out.

  • Hard Drive Corrupt After Failed Software Update

    Hi everyone,
I have an iBook that was recently down for about a month due to a failing DC in board. After replacing the board and restarting, I had a month worth of updates in software update. I installed the two that didn't require a restart -- I think they were the latest iTunes and Quicktime updates. Something went wrong in the middle of the install and after waiting with the OS locked and the hard drive spinning for a couple hours I finally did a hard restart.
Now upon startup I get to the grey Apple logo and the indicator spins while the hard drive goes back and forth between clicking and spinning. Apple Hardware Test says everything's fine, Disk First Aid gets to "Checking Catalog file" and then errors out:
    Invalid key length
    Volume check failed
I'm wondering what my best option is to restore the disk since I know my actual data is still there. Also, I haven't tried using target disk mode for anything -- is that worth a try? Thanks.

    Matt:
"Invalid key length" is a directory error which cannot be repaired by Disk Utility. You will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior. Otherwise, you will need to reformat, erase and reinstall. If you do not have your data backed up you can try using Firewire Target Disk Mode with the assistance of a second firewire Mac.

  • Corrupt Blackberry Link Software and cannot re-install, Error 1500

I have been happily using my Q10 and the Blackberry link software for about 6 months.  A couple of weeks ago I installed ACT and suspect that is the cause of my problems.
the first issue I experienced was a black box appearing every minute saying "There was an error deleting C:\ProgramData\Research In Motion\Tunnel Manager\rimtun-2013-07-11-07-29-47.2388.bugz".    I found this link http://glennmatthys.wordpress.com/2013/07/11/the-mysterious-black-box-that-popped-up-every-minute/   Went to preferences and unticked the box that said "Open blackberry link when you loginto your computer"  That solved the black box problem and I assumed that I would be able to connect my phone to computer once a week and sync - that would be fine.
However now I cannot sync or retrieve photos from my blackberry.  The PC makes a noise to recognise a USB connection however the blackberry link software says the phone is disconnected and I can't navigated to it in windows explorer.
My next thought was to go through installer and repair or uninstall.  I am unable to do either with the Blackberry Link software and I receive the Error 1500. Another installation is process.  I followed several instructions to resolve this issue with no success including the instructions on  http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do;jsessionid=765854E20F189D1FCF9918BEB9148E99?...
Other people with this error 1500 say they are unable to uninstall any software.  I have been able to uninstall a few programs I don't use without any problem so I don't think this is the issue.
    Please help!!!
    My OS is windows 8.

  • Is there a known problem in Adobe CC that corrupts Parallels 7 software?

I installed Adobe CC about a month ago as a trial. I activated the subscription today. When I tried to open an application via Parallels 7 software, an error message stated that the software was not installed and that I would need to install it.
Is there a resolution to this MAJOR error, and if not, is there a workaround? My project scheduling software works only in Parallels.
    Mac OS 10.8

I am running CC on a Mac 10.8.4 using Parallels and everything has been running fine. It sounds like a glitch just in initializing the product. I did notice that my syching of files and typekit are not wanting to stay on today which is out of the norm. Perhaps adobe is having a server issue today and it is playing a part in your software initialization.

I am trying to update to iTunes 10 to us my new iPad, but I can not remove a corrupted? "apple software update" program... I can get everything else off, but due to "previous version" of software update it will not continue.
I stopped in to see one of the genius at the local store who referred me to "Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable" (I am trying to install it on a Windows XP System)
The last version on iTunes on my PC was iTunes 7.
    Thanks for your help,

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Constant failed software update - current software now corrupted

I am receiving constant messages regarding the software update that is due (10.2.0.424 - 1GB) however when trying to update it fails constantly. I have been battling for 2 weeks straight, every single day to try and sort it out however it will not work. It fails via link, web and wifi. I have triple checked our wifi at home and it is working perfectly fine. I am able to download any other files via the same net on my laptop so my internet is clearly not the problem. All these failed attempts to upgrade has clearly corrupt my current software as I am now getting notifications to state that my gmail is untrusted and it will not work. Everytime I reboot my phone or turn it on, I receive error messages to say that gmail is untrusted?? I am very frustrated and rather annoyed with the endless problems I am having. Is someone able to give me some form of guidance please?? I have tried everyhing I could think of... reloading to factory settings installing an old back up etc. Nothing is working.

Well  seems you tried all you should. maybe just put the update out of mind for a while and see if you can get your email working. Remove your email, power off, wait a while, power on and add your email back.

  • Corrupted .docx file. Word 2007. Can't open the document. Tags mismatch. Help?

The Office Open XML file *.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.
Details: The name at the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag.
    Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 3487212
Hmm, I guess I should give some background info and what I've tried so far, right?
The document is in word 2007, Windows 7. Last night, I was in a hurry, and got a lot of things open. I was opening the document to do a few quick spontaneous revisions, but it was so laggy and I was late for an appointment, so I was feeling panicky
and frustrated. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best option to just force shut the PC down cause word stopped responding in the middle of opening the document. Still, while I'm no Sherlock, I knew stopping it while it's in the middle of saving the document
would bebad, I didn't think stopping it while opening the document (and not really modifying the document at all, at least that was what I thought before), could have drastic consequences! The document's quite
large, a few hundred words, and about 500 or so pages. It's this really big project I was doing at work, for months now really, and because it's somewhat business confidential in nature, I can't exactly share it freely, or I would've uploaded a copy, sorry.
Anyway, I woke up this morning and opened it, and the error came up. By the way, the document was saved in a 2TB external hard with a few disk errors in the past, if that helps, even if I'm pretty much sure its not a problem with the hard. The error
came up... and yeah. I first made a copy, which I've been trying everything on, in case I do end up making things worse. I have no previous versions of it, just a relatively very old backup. Anything less than 80% recovery would set me back weeks with a wage
cut. The good news is that I was able to open the document in WordPad, managing to recover the first 287 pages (131,543 words), with no errors or data loss, and saved it in a separate file. Apparently, according to information I obtained later, MSWord tends
to not open at all when it encounters an error, but Wordpad tends to stop reading the rest of the code once it encounters an error. So, naturally, I assumed (so correct me if I'm wrong), that behind a few sentences I might lose due to the error, the rest could
also be salvageable. I then looked up the problem all over the internet. Read a microsoft article on troubleshooting/recovering corrupted documents (Open & Repair, Draft Mode, Creating Link, Recover text from any file converter, etc). No dice.
I first saw a similar question on answers.microsoft, and tried to use Tony Jollan's Rebuilder, macros enabled and all. Sadly, no luck.
I managed to make my first breakthrough when I found out that .docx was just a .zip file, and could be renamed as such, with the document.xml extracted and manually fixed using an XML editor (not that I knew how to do that, but I was desperate and
willing to learn). So, made another copy, changed extensions, and tried to specifically extract the document.xml. I believe that it is the main body text, right? That is the only thing really necessary for me, since everything I've done so far is entirely
spartan, with no fancy fonts, formatting, header/footer/notes, media objects, formulas, tables, bullet points, numbered lists, etc. All pure sans-serif text, with some Japanese Kanji thrown in. 500 pages of pure text.
I then hit a snag, when WinRAR encountered an error on extracting document.xml, stating that "CRC failed in word\document.xml. The file is corrupt". So I tried to fix this using several ZIP repair programs and stuff. Nothing worked. At
least not so far. Managed to extract an incomplete version of document.xml using WinRAR's 'Keep Broken Files' option when extracting. The extracted
document.xml came up to 3.31 MB while the original in archive is 7.53 MB. Viewed it in the Windows XML Editor which opened up the text in Internet Explorer, a jumble of text with no line breaks or paragraphs. Still, it actually extracted a few pages less than
the open-using-Wordpad method tried earlier. So trying to fix the archive again...
So I decided to give up the manual route for the meantime and focus on readymade solutions. I came across yet another microsoft article, but this one was at least more relevant than the last. It had this auto FixMe thing. I ran it, didn't
work. Apparently, as I found out later, "This fix will work for one specific tag error where there are equations and graphics in the same paragraph AND Office 2010 SP1 has not been applied."
Tried several (read: dozens) corrupt Word recovery software, from freeware to pro trials, to varying degrees of effect, although unsuccessful
in goal. Some failed to read it, saying it was too corrupted for them to handle, the best managed to recover about three-pages-worth less data compared to the Wordpad method. So yeah, anybody with a similar problem, always open it with wordpad first and recover
what you can. That doesn't mean I'm giving up though.
So here I am, tearing my hair out in frustration. Whew, I feel like I told you guys my life story. I guess worst case scenario, I report this to my boss, so I personally or from the company, I/we'll hire a team of professionals to deal with it.
But that's not an ideal scenario. It's gonna be out of my salary either way (the company has a firm policy of 'You reap what you sow'), along with a wage cut for making such an amateurish mistake even with continuous reminders to back it up every two sentences,
    so I'd rather avoid that.
I'm currently looking to see whether there's a way to recover a previous version of an overwritten document somehow using a third-party software or something. (I didn't have Windows Backup enabled, so no previous version on Windows). So far, no
autosaved documents on MSWord AutoRecover, even though I have it enabled set to every 3 mins (or maybe I'm just not seeing it since I'm trying to look for it manually?). Or are the temporary files wiped on shutdown? I don't have 'Always save backup copy' option
    enabled on word either.
So yeah, an auto fix, or a lengthy answer detailing what exactly I should do (from the very very basics), or a link to a site with such info, would be much appreciated. Seriously :D
Please. Thanks for at least making an effort :)

When a Word document file is corrupted, then you can try several methods to recover it:
    1. First of all, you can try the recovery function integrated with Microsoft Word, as follows:
    1) On the File menu, click Open.
    2) In the Look in list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file that you want to open.
    3) In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the file.
    4) Select the file that you want to recover.
    5) Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
You may find more information about this at:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/recover-the-text-from-a-damaged-document-HP005189610.aspx (for Word 2003)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893672/en-us (for Word 2007/2010/2013)
    2. If you have multiple corrupt Word documents, then you can use the VBA macro provided in article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893672/en-us so that all the files will be opened in "Open and Repair" option automatically.
    3. There are also free tools from third-parties that can open and read Microsoft Word documents, for example,
3.1 OpenOffice at http://www.openoffice.org. This is a very famous open source project that is designed to support Office file formats, including Word documents. The software can run under Windows.
3.2 LibreOffice at http://www.LibreOffice.org. Another free office suite.
3.3 AbiWord at http://www.abisource.com. This is a cross-platform tool that works under Unix and Windows.
3.4 Google Drive at https://drive.google.com/ also support to load Word document files.
Sometimes when Word fails to open your document, these tools may be able to open it successfully. If that is the case, then after the document is opened, you can just save it as a new document which will be error-free.
    4. For docx files, they are actually a group of files compressed in Zip file format. Therefore, sometimes, if the corruption is only caused by the Zip file, then you can use Zip repair tools such as WinRAR at
http://www.rarlab.com to repair the file, as follows:
4.1 Assuming the corrupt document is a.docx, then you need to rename it to a.zip
4.2 Start WinRAR, go to "Tools > Repair Archive" to repair a.zip and generated a fixed file a_fixed.zip.
    4.3 Rename a_fixed.zip back to a_fixed.doc
4.4 Using Word to open a_fixed.doc.
There may still be some warnings when opening the fixed file in Word, just let ignore it and Word will try to open and repair the fixed file. If the file can be opened successfully, then you can just save the contents into another error-free file.
    5. If all above methods does not work, then you may try third-party tools such as DataNumen Word Repair at
    http://www.datanumen.com/word-repair/
I have used it to repair some word documents successfully. It provides a free demo version so that you can try to see if the data you want can be recovered or not.
    Good luck!

  • How can I fix a corrupted iPhone 4 video file?

I have a video that i recorded back in October with my iPhone 4, but for some reason now it won't play. It says "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file. I have tried a bunch of different corrupted video repair software programs....i got one to convert a little bit of it (you have to pay over $100 to get the full converted video.) While the video is a nice short little video, it isn't worth $100 to have it ...however, is there another way to fix these? i know it helps to have a video that is a reference video shot around the same time, which i do. if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it.

The name of the software i used to fix it (the demo only does around 9 seconds worth) is called Video Repair Tool v.1.6. Has anyone found any software similar to this that is cheaper? i believe from what i have read the "moov" file is either corrupted or missing....

  • Images getting corrupted in Lightroom 4.2

I have experienced this aswell. As mentioned in:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4138626
    and http://forums.adobe.com/thread/948417?tstart=0
My lightroom has after two weeks of playing with a fully working raw file corrupted it.
This is what the photo looked like originally http://500px.com/photo/14737987
As of today, I tried to reexport it with a diffrent watermark, the raw file corrupted. It exports a corrupted jpg and when I delete the .xmp metadatafile and try to import it again (same happens with it now when trying to import it to photoshop) the raw file now renders as corrupted in all software.
I have tried every possible way to reimport it, its just plain broken. If this should happen to my whole portfolio I would cry.

Here's evidence that LR is rewriting an entire JPEG file when I add metadata and do Save Metadata To File, just as Rob has described.
First, I imported a JPEG in which all the metadata had been stripped using Exiftool.  Exiftool's dump shows that the image data starts at around hex offset 10:
Immediately after importing, I did Save Metadata To File, and the image data now starts at around hex offset 0cf0:
Next I added a short caption and did Save Metadata To File, and the image data now starts at around hex offset 0dd0:
I used the Microsoft Sysinternals' Process Monitor to trace file reads and writes to the JPEG file while LR was doing Save Metadata To File, and that confirms it is writing the entire 1 MB file:
Obviously, if there's a hardware fault anywhere in the path from the disk to memory and back, the contents of the image data could get corrupted.
And just as Rob has patiently explained, the fact that the file could get rewritten doesn't constitute any criticism of LR.

  • Corrupt document?

Hi, this is my first time posting here. This is for Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1.1 with Windows XP.
I've never had a problem inserting one document into another, until today. I'm getting the message, "Object label badly formatted."
I tried saving it as another document, and get the message "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (109)." However, there is no problem opening and reviewing the document.
I'm suspecting the document is somehow corrupted, since the software from which it was generated has acknowledged a glitch in its software which caused the document to stop printing to the PDF at page 250. Unfortunately, the document can't be regenerated with the same results, as the database has changed.
If anyone knows of a fix for this I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
If the pdf file is really corrupt, I think you can try a utility called Advanced PDF Repair to repair your PDF file. It works rather well for my corrupt PDF files. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/apdfr/
    Hope this helps.

  • I just downloaded the Beta 4.0 twice and both times a msgbox says the file is corrupt.

I just tried to download your beta version for the first time. Tried the download a second time. Both times when I tried to run the .exe, I got a msgbox that the file was corrupt. The software was not installed.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.<br />
Do not forget to re-enable the scanning in your anti-virus software after you are finished with downloading and installing.<br />
