Corrupted backup files

Hi, I've only had my BlackBerry Curve 9300 for a couple of months and I'm having problems backing up to my computer. The backup always appears to have been successful (i.e. shows the 'Your backup is complete' message) but when I go to look at the backup files (via 'Device' and 'Restore' from the menu) they always show the message "The selected backup file might be corrupted".
I've tried this on my laptop (Windows Vista) and my PC (Windows 7) but its always the same error.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The backup files (in a *ipd or *.bbb file format) are not viewable on your PC, from any native PC software.
They may be used to restore data to the BlackBerry.
You can alternatively use a PC software named MagicBerry from MenaStep, to extract data out of the backup file for use in a spreadsheet, etc.

  • Error message says I have to delete a corrupt backup file?

Error message says I have to delete a corrupt backup file, but under my preferneces & under my devices, there is no old backup file to delete, so I can't delete a corrupt one if i dont have any?!

I know this is a late reply was wondering if you had the problem still as I have been having this problem for many months.  Today I was looking around getting ****** off why it was not working and I found my culprit and thought I would see if it would help you.  Not sure if you, like me, changed your itunes media store location somewhere other than the default location.  What I noticed was in Users>UserName>AppData>Roaming>AppleComputer>MobileSync there was a backup folder with a shared link icon on it and when I double clicked on it windows promptly brought up an error that its location was not valid.  So I figured since it was not valid and I did not have any backups anyways I deleted the folder and then went to itunes and tried a sync and it worked perfectly again.  The backup folder was re-created properly and the stupid corrupt error went away.

  • Corrupt backup file

I recently had to do a Full System Recovery on my daughters notebook to correct an audio problem. I backed up her My Documents folder on a flash drive using the Windows Backup Utilty. After the reinstall of Windows XP Pro, I could not restore my files using the Backup Restore Wizard (nor any other way!). I get the message "Unrecognized Media" followed by "The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used." I found a couple programs to repair and recover corrupted backup files which found the files and displayed them but in order to restore them, you had to pay for the program which cost $149. I can't afford to pay that to restore my daughters files from college. I am a single consumer, not a corporation! Is there any free programs to accomplish this task? The afore mentioned  ones said "Free" but only half free!
A solution to my problem would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!! I have been very fustrated trying to get this resolved!!!
    Thanks, Jean1

  • ITunes does not recognize password after removal of corrupt backup file

I removed a corrupt backup file of my iPhone 4 from iTunes and now it does not recognize my password anymore. The password is correct, as I wrote it down when I set it up and have used it before. Any thoughts? This must be some kind of flaw in iTunes or iOS for iPhone.
    iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried stopping and restarting Apple Mobile Services, Bonjour and iPod services but it had no effect.  The problem still remains - everything works for all 3 iPhones immediately after reinstalling iTunes but none of them can connect with any of the USB cables after a reboot.  This problem is still present as of upgrading to 10.6.3.25.
BTW, I do have other choices.  I can become disenchanted with the product, use it less and less, then eventually migrate over to some competitor's product.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

  • Corrupt backup file (.bbb) - missing manifest

    Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a corrupt backup file.  I did a full backup, followed by a factory reset on my Blackberry.  After the reset, I wanted to restore some of the data from the backup (contacts, ring profiles, messages, etc).  When I try to restore, it says the backup file may be corrupt and won't even let me choose individual databases to try to restore.
I discovered that you can open the .bbb file with programs like WinRAR or 7zip and see the contents.  My backup contains a "pkginfo" file and folder full of the databases / .dat files.  I ran another backup after the factory reset and compared it to my original backup.  The Desktop software would allow me to restore that backup, but it doesn't have any of my data so it's no good to me.  I opened that one with WinRAR also and discovered it has a "manifest.xml" file that my first backup doesn't have.  The manifest file looks to be an index of what each of the .dat files is associated with.  I tried copying that manifest file into my original backup file, but it still didn't work to restore.  The number of .dat files are different between the backups and I don't think the index numbers match for even individual files such as my contacts.
Is there any way to recreate the "manifest.xml" that should have been in my first backup?  Maybe a program that can read all the .dat files and decipher what they are so the index numbers can be matched up to the correct databases?
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • Password not recognized after removal of corrupt backup file

    Don,
Take a look at this article:  http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/
Under the "Reset Mac Password - without a CD" it will walk you through booting to single user mode and removing the setup file.  When you reboot it will treat the computer as if it had never gone through the setup and allow you to create a new user account.  This will NOT wipe the computer or the user that is there, but will create a new user that you can then use to reset the password of the account you already have.

  • Corrupt backup files...

My iPhone when backed up from iTunes, says the backup file is corrupt. How can this be when I only backed it up the day before today?

Where is the old device. Create another backup if you can. If you cannot, you have no choice. That is why besides a backup, I have everything synced to supported applications and pictures are imported. I sync my phone every day, twice if necessary depending on the amount of changes. I teach computers, so I'm always in front of one. I could restore my phone as new right now and get all my content back less Messages, but I usually delete them after reading. I think I only have short message threads from about 3 people right now, and I will delete them in a little bit when I go to sync my phone for the night before going to bed.

  • How do I connect my new 3gs iphone to itunes when i have a corrupted backup file

My iphone 3gs died (got stuck on the itunes screen) when I tried to upgrade it.  i never had a good backup for my phone but i tried to back up anyway. Didn't work.
Today I got a new 3gs at the apple store and now I'm trying to put everything back on it manually.  My contacts and calendar are in outlook.  My pictures are in a file on my computer.  My music is on my computer.  I don't know where my apps are (they were shown in itunes the last time I had my old phone plugged in).
So, the apple guy told me that he wouldn't restore the phone from back up, but i'm not exactly sure if that means I should reinstall itunes or just leave it as it is and set up my phone as a new device.  Any thoughts?

If you don't have a backup that is reliable, but all the components are there on your computer, I would start from scratch  and set it up as a new iOS device.

  • Backup file corrupted- How do I recover or locate older backup files?

I synced my original iPhone (with 2.0 software) a few times last night to make sure everything I had on the iPhone was synced to my computer before I restored it, and sold it on ebay. It backed up the iPhone a few times and always wanted to restore it everytime. Well the last time I attempted to sync the iPhone I interrupted the backup process by 'x-ing' out of it during the sync. Now I am trying to get my 3G iPhone synced with the backup of my original iPhone and it is saying that the file is corrupt. Obviously this is because I interrupted the backup process.
So my question is: Is there a way for me to locate an older backup file that may only be an hour older than the corrupt file?
In the preference settings in iTunes I can see the backup files for my phone, but it only lists one, which is the corrupt one. And I searched the finder for recent files, hoping I could find the corrupt file, locate the folder its in and there find older non-corrupt files. Alas, no luck.
I've already restored the original iPhone so the info is gone from that phone. Is there any hope of finding a non-corrupt backup file? Please help.

You can find your backup file here:
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
It seems that iTunes lists all of the ones that are in that folder.
I just lost my backup, too. More than a year's worth of settings. I can't find any way of "fixing" the corrupt backup. It seems that photos are gone forever, if they weren't imported into iPhoto, but I did find this software to recover notes, sms, and call logs:
    http://homepage.mac.com/vaughn/msync/#VER
The developer seems like kind of a passive aggressive borderline extortionist, but the software seems to work.

  • Corrupt backups & deleted music

    greetings, forum newbie here :P
Recently, I gave my mother an ipod touch (4th gen), to take with her on vacation.
we had some trouble after we bought it.
Mostly we had to keep restoring it to factory settings because my computer wouldnt recognise it anymore, or it would go into recovery mode without warning
It also kept removing any music from the playlist (it kept the files, they just couldnt be accessed).
I brought it back to the store a few times, but all they were able to do was restore it, same as I did at home.
After we got it working again, I reloaded the deleted music, my mom left on vacation, and came back after a few weeks.
It appears that just after she left, the music was removed again, but there were no other problems during the time she was gone.
When I connected the ipod to my computer again, the ipod began updating, and had to be restored to factory settings.
when i then tried to restore from backup, Itunes told me the backup file was corrupt. I tried with other, earlier backup files, they were corrupt as well.
Can anyone tell me what is up with this Ipod, and maybe what to do about it?
also, is there anyway to recover my mom's vacation pictures from the " corrupt" backup file?
    thnx in advance
ps: the Itunes version is 10.1.0.54 , running on windows 7

It can't be deleted or hidden.
Use the Spotlight search and verify that it is on the iPod. It would appear that you moved it to somewhere where you can't find it.
You can reset the screen layout by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Screen Layout.

  • How to fix corrupted backup then proceed with restore? Or extract app databases from corrupted backup?

Deeply let down by Backup restore :-(
iPhone 3GS with iOS5.1 (the latest) started to behave abnormally. Made a full restore of iOS then tried to restore from backup only to discover message that my backup is corrupt or not compatible. Contacts were restored more or less OK but all applications data including personal financials (PocketMoney records) were lost.
Tried 2 times to run restore from backup but without success :-( Is there any chance to fix so-called corrupted backup file or at least to retrieve my app databases out of there?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not that I've heard of.  You can extract some of your data from a backup using iPhone Backup Extractor, but I'm not sure that includes app data (you could try contacting them to find out).  And even if you could, I don't know how you would sync it back to your phone.

  • Time Machine backup file corrupted and locked

This morning when I switch on my Mac there was a dialogue box telling me that my Time Machine backup file was corrupted and that Time Machine would have to create a new backup file.
I am backing up my Macs to a disk connected to my Airport Extreme. It's been working for months without any problems. Other than this morning. Time Machine buddy had the following message:

Has anybody seen something like this before?
I now have a locked and renamed sparsebundle on my disk and backups are not working anymore.

Yes you are right, I know it isn't supported - as so many other things but they work!
This one is notorious for working for a while, then . . . not.
In addition to the problems above I got a pop-up from Time Machine saying the backup file is broken and it needs to create a new one. I told it to go ahead and what happened is that it actually proceeded to DELETE the old backup file before creating a new one - there goes my several months of backup history!
Yes, just as it says in the message. See #C13 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
All I can say do now is connect my drive directly to my iMac and figure out a way how I can backup my other iMac and the MacBook I have. On the AE this just worked remotely.
    Yeah. Until it didn't.
Really not much options here to backup a home with 3 Macs!?!
Sure there is. Back the others up to the same drive, over your network, via sharing. See #22 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for details and setup instructions.
