  • Iphone 4 won't restore backup! NEED HELP ASAP!

Ok so I got an iphone 4 last week on at&t and today decided to switch to verizon. I did so and they switched my contacts and pictures for me. great. So I got home and connected to my macbook pro and I clicked restore from backup or whatever and it was the wrong thing. So it restored from my oldd ipod touch so I lost all contacts and pics. When I click iTunes>preferences>devices I see the backup from the other phone that I need but I need to know how to get that onto my iphone I have now. Please Help!

You won't be able to.  Here's why:
Since both your phones are new, they likely had the newest iOS version installed.  For AT&T it's 4.3.3; for Verizon it's 4.2.8.
Since the Verizon phone has a LOWER firmware number than AT&T phone, you cannot restore a Verizon phone (older firmware) from an AT&T (newer firmware) backup.  You could, however, restore an AT&T phone from a Verizon backup since the AT&T phone has  the same, or more recent firmware update.
No way around this.  If you search this forum, you'll see many similar posts.
If you used your phone as intended, you shouldn't lose much data at all, other than perhaps some application data.  Photos are stored on your computer in iPhoto (unless you didn't do as recommended and upload photos taken by the iPhone into iPhoto), contacts should be synched with Address Book so they should be on your computer.  Your iTunes media (videos, music, podcasts, apps) should still be in iTunes ready to be synched onto your new phone.

  • Big Problem With Corrupted Image Library - Need Help Please

I recently updated my Aperture 2 (2.1) with the latest update. Upon doing so, most images in my library now show up in the 'ole maroon box with the message "Unsupported Image Format." This only began after the update. I've spent hours reading threads on here, but no real solution can be found. I've spent a few hours on the phone with Apple Support and in my local store at the Genius Bar. What they're telling me is that my library file has become corrupted. That my preview/thumbnails have become "diconnected" from the actual full size image file. I've tried holding down option + command while starting Aperture in order to "rebuild" it. That's made matters worse in that most, but not all, of my previews/thumbnails now are not showing up. When I go into my home folder and right click on the aperture library icon and keep burrowing in until I get to each image folder, everything seems to be there: the original RAW file, the preview file, the thumbnail file, the edits/changes files. I can even drag the original RAW file out and re-import it and then its fine. But I can't seem to also drag out the edits/retouching/changes. So even if I take each of my 1,300 images out one by one and reimport them, I still lose some 300+ hours of retouching. I can't even bare the thought of this. Does anyone know what the heck is really going on and whether there is some kind of fix for this? I'm just trying to get my library back to where it was before all the trouble started. Unfortunately, I do not have a back up from before I updated the software. Oh, we also tried removing Aperture and reinstalling to go back to 2.0, but the same problem is still there. Lastly, I cannot export any "versions" or "masters" in order to print, upload or email the images. So I'm really stuck here.

Welcome to club. This just happened to me also in a very similar fashion: Upgrade - upgrade works for awhile - and then the maroon screen and unsupported file message.
At least you are still somewhat functional. Very quickly the problem spread to my non Aperture JPEGS (I use Canon software to download from two Canon Cameras and then import into Aperture). At first all was ok with these files despite the issue with Aperture. Then they are started having the same problem once I shutdown the computer and restarted. This quickly spread to killing Aperture where it would not start at all. Then I lost Microsoft Entourage due to a corrupted data base. Rebuilding this data base via Disk Utility Verify and Repair Permissions made Entourage workable (but I lost my data and setup - it created a new instance.
Two calls to Apple made everything worse as every time we went back into Disk Utility, we would only fix problems to have them re-appear when the laptop was restarted.
Went to Genius Bar (twice). They archived and did a reinstall. They had to do this twice. Everything now works except for Aperture which will not launch at all.
Genius Bar told me to use Time Machine to reload Aperture. Three tries using three different backups have now resulted in nothing. I am about to try a clean install using my Aperture Disk. I will report back on this.
One thing I noticed before all this started - I had done a bunch of usual weekly software updates about two weeks ago. I was going on a trip so I let everything run (no issues). Time Machine did all the usual things including giving me the really useful message that my BackUp Disk was now full (meaning it is wiping old versions out). However, I then went to shutdown the machine and FileVault whirled for over 30 minutes before it allowed the machine to shutdown. Usually this is under 3-5 minutes if that long. FileVault has yet to make a re-appearance on any shutdown I have had in past two weeks regardless of changes on HD. Therefore I am wondering if there is a connection here.
I use a MacBook Pro with upgraded memory and HD.

  • Restored my library from backup discs, need help with album art/playlist

Good morning everyone. Using the great information on this site I have successfully backed up "my library". I then reformatted my hd and reinstalled win xp and itunes. I was also successful in using the awesome restore feature of itunes. "My library" is back 100%.
The only thing left is the album art and my playlists- both currently on my ipod. My question is how do I update "my library" and "my playlist" from my ipod? I am worried that if I plug in my ipod without knowing what to do then my ipod will try to match "my library" (which does not have artwork) and thus my ipod will delete the album artwork. I have several thousand songs and would HATE to lose that artwork since it would be a time consuming pain to update those manually. Also I have 20 or so playlists on my ipod. I am afraid of losing those (currently on ipod) when I connect to itunes since it will try to update and match the now empty/blank playlist currently in itunes.
I am sure these are easy solutions for you pros out there. That's why I am asking! You folks have always given the proper help and advice whenever an issue has arisen. Thanks in advance!

    clever point...

I deal with artwork in a more hap-hazzard way, but most of the time, i get SQUARE results...
Just Google the album title, then click the IMAGES tab. More times than not, I find the album cover in multiple sizes and about every time, at least one version that is truly square.
All i need to do then is click the image, then again at the top of the resulting Google page (to show just the image - out of it's surrounding page), then drag the image directly to the Album Artwork Placeholder in the GET INFO tab (that has already been opened on multiple items - the whole album).

  • Corrupted Backup! PLEASE HELP!

I just upgraded my iphone to the new 2.0.2 software and something went wrong, I had deleted all of my contacts from my computer but not on the iPhone and my intention was to put them back from the iPhone to my computer, but the sync deleted the contacts from the iphone too! And now I am trying to restore my iphone from a previous backup and I get a message telling me that the backup is corrupted or not compatible. How do I fix this?????

You can't. Welcome to iphone version 2.0. There are a ton of posts about this. I would start with this one

  • Using Time Capsule as just a backup. (Need Help)

There are two Time Capsules in our home.  We use one with our modem for our home Wi-Fi.  The one that I have on my desk, I would like to just use it as a back.  Does anyone have any idea as to how I can set it up to my iMac for just a back up?

    Yes, it is relatively easy.
How is the imac connecting to the internet now??
    The answer depends on this..
    Ethernet.
if you use ethernet, then could not be simpler.. bridge the TC.. plug the ethernet that was in the imac into the TC.. and plug the imac into another port on the TC.. it is now a switch and AP.. so turn off wireless.. and use it as your TM destination.
    Wireless.
If the imac get internet by wireless.. setup the TC as router might be easier than bridge.. either are possible though. Plug it by ethernet into the computer. You might need to turn off wireless just to finish the setup. You need to move the TC to a different IP range. ie if you have two TC the second one cannot be the same IP as the first. Bridge avoids this issue as used above. Set the ethernet ip of the TC to say 192.168.1.1 .. set the ethernet on the computer to 192.168.1.10 with 255.255.255.0 subnet.. no router no dns set. (This is assuming the main TC is not using the same IP range). You may have to turn off the various errors that the TC will come up with.. just ignore them.. the TC is now isolated from the network for your exclusive use.
There are other methods.. like using wireless extend.. so ask more if you need more.

  • Corrupt File.  Need help from iPod genius--please!

I keep getting these messages when I try to transfer songs from my computer to my iPod mini:
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\Temp File 1 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
Windows was unable to save all the date for the file \Device\Harddisk1\DP(1)0-0+3\iPod_Control\Music\F10\Never Tear Us Apart.m4p. The date has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
I have tried to run the Chkdsk utility by going to Start, Run, and entering "Chkdsk," which does nothing.
I have only ever downloaded music from my own CDs, iTunes, or my friends disc (which isn't corrupt because she doesn't have any corrupt file problems).

    Heather,
You might like to start by checking out our current post on this issue:

  • Corrupted Aperture Library: need Help!

I am running Aperture 3.1.3 and mylibrary seems to be stuck in version 3.1.2 and won't open.
When I try to open Aperture I get the error:
    "Warning:
There was an error opening the databasefor the library “[my library]”."
It goes straight to this warning when I open my Aperture library no matter what I do.  I have tried theCommand-Option thing when I open it with no effect.
I followed some advice I found on a photography forum where I rename/move my Aperture Library.  I was able to open Aperture when a new library was created, and then I use File-"Switch to library" to open my old library, holding down the Option-Command keys while opening it. ALL I get is a progress box that says “Upgrading Library: scanning library”.  Its got the moving barber-pole thing going on and it seems to stay static like this indefinitely, I left it on overnight last night with no apparant progress being made.  I just checked and the same thing happens if I do not hold down Option-Command while opening.
I tried almost everything on this page and none of it has worked.  The only thing I did not try is restoring Aperture from a disk, I will be trying that shortly.  My disk drive won't seem to accept any DVD's (working on that now), so I will try restoring Aperture once I get that problem worked out.  I will also try fiddling with the Tech Tools that came on my AppleCare DVD.
Can anyone tell me what I should do now?

I am aware how Export Versions works, even if I choose "JPEG - Original Size" It would still limit it to an image that was 1200 pixels tall, even when drawing from a 12 MP RAW file.  Something is wrong ith the export presets.
Now when I try to open Aperture with the original Application Support/Aperture folder back in my library.  So I put the dummy/replacement library back and then held the option key down while opening Aperture and got my library to load again.
I have just a few dozen older photos that are not managed files within my Aperture Library and none of them are the ones that ended up in the Application Support folder.  I'm not convinced these images that are in my Applications Support/Aperture folder belong in my library.  It seems they may be duplicates or images that I had "trashed".
But I am not sure if it is safe to just go in there and clean house.  Should I remove all the image files from the Application Support folder, or should I put the new/dummy Application Support/Aperture folder back in my library, and copy over what look like valuable files from the old one (which is now on my desktop) into the new one?

  • HT4972 I cannot back up my IPad because I have a corrupted backup. I need to delete it but cannot locate it on my computer or find help on this topic. I would appreciate any help.

I cannot back up my IPad because I have a corrupted backup that I need to delete. The problem is I cannot locate the file to delete it. How do you locate the backup file?

You have the latest version of iTunes on your computer (on a PC 'Help > Check For Updates' ; on a Mac 'iTunes > Check For Updates') ? You could also try ejecting the iPad and rebooting your PC and the iPad : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still get the same error then check whether it has actually deleted the backup (if you have other devices that you backup to that computer then they will also have backups) - they are stored under :
    Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

  • Corrupt backup - help restoring without losing all my SMS'

    Hi all,
(not sure if i've posted this in the most appropriate place - wasn't too sure where it should go...)
I have been having issues with icloud since installing iOS 5 on my 3GS. I took the phone to the Apple Store and after much deliberation, they suggested that the only solution would be to erase the iPhone completely and restore as if it were new as there is most probably an issue with a corrupt backup (previously i had been restoring from backup as i didn't want to lose photos, data etc.).
So, i went away and did this, but obviously lost everything that wasn't held in iCloud. However, this process did fix the iCloud issues  - so, we have established that the backups that were being taken were corrupt somehow.
Now, given that i don't want to lose all my photos, sms' etc. I reverted back to the original backup (i.e. to the broken version) as it's still usable i just can't use the calendars.
It seems like i have to make a choice - have a fully functioning, working phone but lose my SMS history (unacceptable as i have SMS conversations from a close friend who sadly died) or have a phone that is semi-functioning but retains the text messages (not ideal as i use calendars on my mac to set up meetings etc. would be helpful to have this on my phone too!) .
I have searched and searched and searched the web for methods of exporting sms' onto my computer or back onto the phone but so far have been unsuccessful in all attempts. Ideally i would like the texts back on the phone, but if this isn't possible then at a minimum i want them to be on my computer (i am currently attempting to use the iphonebackupextractor but having issues with this too).
Does anyone know of a successful method of getting SMS' off iOS5?
Given that iCloud backups take the SMS' it's very frustrating that i can't save these somewhere on the cloud and have them download separately like i can with emails, calendars, contacts.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  I do not believe there is anyway to save your SMS. At some point, you are going to loose them either as part of a phone upgrade or change, software crash, whatever.  One thing you could do is take screen captures of the SMS messages you want to save.  To do this, position the message on the screen and then hold down the Home and On/Off Button for a second or so.  You should see the screen go white for a brief moment simulating a camera flash.  Now your screen is captured in your photo library.  You could keep doing that until you've captured all of them.  Not necessarily ideal, but it's at least a way to make a backup of the conversations.
    Good luck.

  • I need help with a backup file that was deleted and now undeleted from my hard drive

Last month (May 6, 2011), I was updating my iPod Touch 4G with the new software that came out. I always make a backup of my iPod's data before I update it. While my iPod was updating I left my iPod and computer alone and was doing things around the house with my mom. And when I was done I went in my room to see if it was done and my computer decides that it was going to freeze and crash on me (with my iPod plugged in and stuck on the updating or verifying software mode.) I managed to get my iPod back to working condition again but losing everything on my iPod. I formatted my computer hard drive but I managed to get back the backup I lost. I need help on getting the backup into iTunes so I can get my data back. I am not Jailbroken and I plan not to Jailbreak. I however saved the backup file in a folder other than the Mobilesync folder. I am also running on Windows XP. Someone please help me and thank you in advance!

I was able to backup my iPod and I tried to restore my iPod again and it goes through the process and everything but it restores the temporary data that I had on there. It didn't restore application data or the current photos and videos that I had saved in Camera Roll before this all had happened. It is almost like it goes back to factory settings but I have some photos that were saved on the other backup that I was temporarily running on. The backup that I am looking to restore is the only backup file in the Mobilesync folder as of right now the others are saved somewhere safe for right now. Why doesn't it restore my application data or my Camera Roll pictures and videos that I saved before my computer crashed last month? Can this problem be fixed?

    -Reece,
We only have 1 single domain, 1 domain forest, no subdomains, only alias. I had replied to the other post as well. But I am happy to paste it here in case anyone want to read it.
So, after a few months of testing, capture and sending logs back and forth to Apple Engineers, we found out there is a setting in AD, under User Account that prevent us to log into AD from Mountain Lion. If you would go to your AD server, open up a user account properties, then go to Account tab, the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" option is checked. As soon as I uncheck that option, immediately I was able to log into AD on the Mac client. Apple engineers copied all my AD settings and setup a test environment on their end and match exact mine AD environment. They was able to reproduce this issue.
The bad part about this is... our environment required the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" is checked in AD, in order for our users to login into some of our Unix and Linux services. Which mean that it is impossible for us to remove that check mark because most, if not all of them some way or another require to login into applications that run on Unix and Linux. Apple is working to see if they can come up with a fix. Apparently, no one has report this issue except us. I believe most of you out there don't have that check mark checked in your environment... Anyone out there have any suggestion to by pass or have a work around for this?

    From Microsoft Documentation:-
If a file has been damaged and you cannot open it by normal means, you may be able to recover its content by using the Open and Repair
    feature.
    Click the
    Microsoft Office Button
Browse to the file that you want to recover, and click it (do not double-click it).
Click the arrow next to the
Open button, and then click Open and Repair.

My phone (5C) is stuck in the restore mode which is preventing a backup which is preventing installation of IOS 8.1. Need help.

    Hi Petesmith643,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your device is in recovery mode. I understand you would like to back it up before updating to iOS 8.1 but cannot because you are in recovery mode. I would first suggest restarting your device to exit recovery mode.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
    Cheers,
    Joe
