Corrupted display after good night sleep

Hi all I just bought MacPro few days ago along with ACD 30. twice after waking the computer up from sleep the display have looked like this
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=274475339&size=o
The only way I have found to get it normal again is to restart the computer.
My display card is Gforce 7300.
I bought the computer with ATI1900 but accidentely got it with the Gforce so I´m now waiting for the replacement card. I will not do anything about this until the new card arrives and I have checked if the problem will still be with that card.
If anyone else has had this same issue I would be interested in knowing if he has been able to fix it.
MacPro 266, 4gb ram, DCP 30   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   PowerMac 7100/66, Color Classic

I see in another thread you have your ati1900 card. I have a similar prob:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=654938&tstart=30
I call them "The Blue Fuzzies".
I've had apple replace the power supply for the monitor, and didn't have any further problems for about a week, but they came back.
So that leaves the graphics card or the monitor. I had reseated the GC, but that didn't do anything.
Another issue is that so far, a few times when starting the computer in the morning, the monitor will not come on. Instead, the white power light flickers in sequences of three. The third flicker stays on the longest.
To resolve either issue, I have to shut down the monitor, and unplug and replug-in that odd connector on that small white power box that comes with the monitor, (the "DC" cable).
According to the monitor manual, the white flickers are a code. For two short flashes followed by a longer one, is indicative of a backlight issue on the display.
Do you recall any flickers on the monitor status light when you had the 7300 card in? (It's at the lower right hand corner)
I'd be interested in knowing if the ati card resolves your issue, as I might have to replace the 7300 card as well as the monitor.

  • Scrambled display after waking from sleep...

I have a problem, probably with the computer, not the OS. Whenever the computer wakes up from sleep, the screen becomes all "messed" up, or scrambled. The keyboard still works, because I can enter my password, but the screen just moves to a different state of "jumbled". Powering down and restarting, and everything works fine. It only happens when waking from a sleep, and only about half the time.
I have a picture posted here of what the screen looks like, it allows screen capture, or at least use of the keyboard.

    Any ideas ? Thanks

If you didn't buy 3 year Applecare, you would have a 1 year warranty, which would be over by now, unfortunately. If you bought three year Applecare, you are still covered.
You might still try an external display and see if you get the same artifact on it. If not, there's a chance that the problem is in the internal display and/or its connections. If you do get the same scrambled display, that would be a strong indication that it would be the graphics chip.
Also see if you get an error code from the AHT. If you do, that would confirm there is a hardware problem.
I don't think that this is a software problem, but you could always reinstall the OS to eliminate the possibility of software corruption.
    Good luck!

  • Apple TV wont display after waking from sleep

I recently bought a Apple TV for Christmas.  I hooked it up correctly and have been streaming music and videos from my computer as well as using Netflix.  However, once my Apple TV goes to sleep for the night and I try to restart it in the a.m.  the light turns on however, my televison states that their is no signal.  The Apple TV is connected directly to my television with a Dynex HDMI cable (same one used on my PS4).  In order to get a signal I have to restore or unplug the Apple TV in order to get a display on my television. How do I fix this issue? Is this a issue with the new Apple TV?

    Hi there soambitiouskim,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below if you are having video issues with your Apple TV.

  • Corrupt pixels after "wake from sleep"

    Hi,
I've started getting a strange problem on my TiBook 800MHz when waking from sleep - some pixels are getting corrupted on screen, and even stranger is that I can see them on a screen capture. Example is here.
The problem does not persist after a restart. Does anybody have any idea? An impending hardware failure?
    Thanks,
    Hugh

Jon: The standard warranty on your Powerbook is one year from your date of purchase. Since no 1.67GHz PBs were made until last January, your Aluminum PB is still covered, and you should get it in for examination by a technician ASAP.
While the original warranty remains in effect, you have the option of extending it for two additional years by purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan, which I recommend doing. When the original warranty expires, the opportunity to extend your protection goes away with it. The APP is available through the Apple online store, Apple retail stores, and online Apple resellers. Some resellers discount it. I bought mine at a discount here.

  • [SOLVED] corrupted display after graphical mode

    Hello,
    I am new to ArchLinux.
After Installing the system, I followed the instructions on wiki.archlinux.org and managed to launch the graphical mode (xterm and even KDE).
However, it seems that after exiting the graphical mode, my screen is corrupted (I suspect that text console becomes corrupted during launching graphical mode but it is not visible until returning to text mode).
The Linux itself works properly (f.ex. alt+ctrl+del works ok).
I added only exec xterm to the ~/.xinitrc file and I am using MSI netbook with intel graphics card.
I attached two pictures describing the problem:
    http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/DSC_0045.jpg
    http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/DSC_0048.jpg
    And logs from xorg:
    http://kdiablo.hostit.pl/img/Xorg.0.log
I would be very helpful for any help!
    Cheers,

I checked my graphics card as you advised.
    # lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b)
I also found in the netbook's specification that:
CPU: Intel Atom Processor N2800/N2600 Series
    Graphics: Intel GMA 3650
I could assume that indeed, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_GMA3600 would be the proper driver for me.
However, based on information from the website, the kernel version - 3.17.2, and the xorg version - 1.16, I am quite worried if I can try to install these drivers.
Are there any newer versions/similar drivers available?

  • Display will not sleep any more after waking from sleep

My Macbook has recently started misbehaving after waking from sleep. Started putting the entire MB to sleep each night by closing the lid. When I wake it in the morning everything seems normal, no error messages. However from that point forward the display will not dim or sleep. I've tried re-applying my settings in System Preferences -> Energy Saver. Pretty much the only fix has been to reboot, which is annoying and Windows-like.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have "fast sleep" enabled (aka hibernation mode disabled) but I've had that since I bought my MB with 10.5.1 on it. So I don't think it's related. In fact I changed to the default Energy Saver profile to see if that fixed the problem (it didn't), which re-enabled hibernation mode and I then had to re-disable hibernation.
I want to say this started happening after the 10.5.4 update, but that may have been a coincidence as to when I started sleeping it each night... I don't exactly remember.
I downloaded Cocktail to run all the cron jobs, etc, that don't get run when sleeping at night, and that didn't help either.
Any suggestions? Anyone else ever see this? Seeing it now?
    Thanks!

This is still an issue for me.
I sleep my Macbook every night by closing the lid. After doing this a few times, the display either stops sleeping, or stops locking. I have the lock menu in the Apple menu bar, and even selecting "Lock screen" will not work.
Sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes I have to reset the SMC.
    Any info out there?

  • MBA not always recognizes external display after sleep

    Hi,
I have a 2011 MBA and use it on a external display (Dell 2709w) with the lid open. The issue with this MBA is that after sleep it often (every second time I wake it up) doesn't show anything on my external monitor. In order that the external monitor works again I have to plug the DVI cord out and in or press recognize monitors under monitor settings.
I also did a PMC and SMC reset but both did not help.
I have also done a complete reinstall witch did not help as well.
I also did a test with a MBA from a friend (exact same model) and his always works with the external display after sleep while mine only works every second time.
Could this be a hardware defect? sound pretty strange to me, but who knows...

I have managed to make the Apple Hardware test by just pressing "D" while restarting. The test, however, did not find any error - but this does not surprise me as I think it only tests the ram.

  • Thunderbolt Display has issue with weird washed-out colors after waking from sleep (after upgrade to Mavericks)

I've got a Thunderbolt Display that I use with my Macbook Air (mid 2012) - usually in clamshell mode.
When I let the computer go to sleep, and then wake it up by clicking the mouse, the monitor turns back on but the colors are washed out and purple looking.
The display goes back to normal when I unplug and replug it to my laptop.
I first noticed this problem after upgrading to Mavericks.
I made a video demonstrating the issue here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19179-MVpWA&feature=youtu.be
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

As stated hold down the top button only until you see the red slider to power off your phone.
If that doesn't work then take it to Apple and see what they say.

  • Computer not connecting to network after a good nites sleep

My computer will frequently (once every other day) not automatticallly reconnect to my network after waking from sleep in the morning. I have all the security options enabled, tried changing the interference robustness on and off and it seems to make no diff, reduced the network range to reduce interference from the 3 other wlan networks around, and changed the channels around. It didnt do it in my house. I realized that when I put the cpu to sleep at night, I leave iTunes running. Well, in a dorm, there is alot of shared music going. I tried quitting iTunes, putting the computer to sleep, and waking it up and it reconnects every time. when i leave itunes on and repeat the test, I have to connect manually by using the drop down menu (which i hate) and sometimes it will say "error joining network" a few times before connecting. I havent thouroughly tested this, but is it possible that the sharing feature of itunes is somehow interfering w/ the airport connection? Maybe it is looking for shared networks before the network connects and prevents it connecting somehow? If this is the case, I dont mind quitting itunes every night as long as I dont have to screw with the internet connection every morning.

I know you don't have any replies posted here, but has anyone given you or have you found the answer?
We have the same problem with our airport extreme. My son listens to iTunes at night too. Sometimes the next morning with or without the iTunes running at night - suddenly my network is gone. I have to go back in and re set some stuff. Our AE is not even 2 mos old and it really has been problematic.
When we first got the AE set up this strange network appeared. We didn't recognize it from anywhere and it wasn't the AE's address. Every once in awhile it shows up. There are times when we think it might be our neighbor's wireless connection, but who knows?
Then the other night my son was on AIM and MIM chatting when suddenly the connection was dropped. He tried to sign back on but everything was gone. A strange new network name appeared (this time it looks like the AE created a new network and name based on it's address) and we could not sign back on to the internet. This all happened in the space of 2-3 minutes. All my efforts and re-sets have failed. My husband uses the AE as a router and plugs his PC into the LAN port to connect to the internet (of course the wireless portion then no longer functions thereafter). Well, now he can not even sign onto the internet.
I have put at least 6+ hours into trying to figure this out. i guess I'll have to give up and try Apple support since it is still basically new. Last time I called Apple Support, it sure seemed like I was able to guide/help myself more than the joker csr I happened to dial into.
Anyone else have this problem? Did you eventually fiz it?

  • SSD and corrupted menu after deep sleep

SSD and corrupted menu after deep sleep
    Hi, I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 13 inches (9,2).
I run it with 16GB of ram and OSX 10.8.4
I replaced the internal HD with an Adata SX-910 model (512GB) SSD.
It runs really fast! Boot time is 10 seconds! :-)
However I have a major problem! When I MacBook Pro will end the battery energy and will go below 3 percent, the Mac will go to sleep itself. When I will start back the Mac, with the power connected, every time I will see the desktop colors corrupted and the menu of Apple Safari, Apple Mail and few others gone! Only solution is to re-install Mac OSX!
I took the Mac to an Apple center and Apple did NOT find any problem with the Mac itself. I have returned the Adata to the vendor and got a new one (with latest firmware).... However I have discovered that the problem is happening again! :-(
I have tried to use Insomnia smartspleep tool, but does not work as expected.I think that only solution is to re-charge the battery before it goes below 3 percent.....
please note: using the trim enabler tool did NOT solved the issue:-(
    Any suggestion?
Maybe it is indeed an issue related only to Adata SSD? I am confused and frustrated.

    Clinton,
Apple hibernation has three modes. By default, on laptops it suspends the system and make a copy of RAM to disk for a completely safe hibernate. When you have 8 Gigabytes of RAM it takes twenty or thirty seconds to write that RAM image. I suspend/resume often during my day and don’t want to wait. This has worked really well for me.
You can change the Mac’s hibernate behavior using pmset; here’s the reference for it:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/pmset.1. html
“sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0″ = suspend to RAM only (default on desktops)
“sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 1″ = suspend to disk only
“sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3″ = suspend to disk + RAM (default on laptops)
How can I set my MacBook Pro to go into deep sleep, I guess it is mode 0, BEFORE the 3 minutes remaing time? I think to be safe, it should go to deep sleep automatically when it is around 15 percent batter level.....

  • 2008 Mac Pro restarting itself after waking from sleep

Recently, my Mac Pro has taken to restarting itself unasked upon waking from sleep. I just moved to a town with a hot summer, and my room has no air conditioning and gets quite warm. Could the temperature in the room be causing this? I don't think so, because it happens in the cool of the morning after an all night sleep, too.
Another factor I just discovered is that one of my RAM chips has stopped showing up in the system profiler.

Replace the pair of DIMMs first.
    Monitor the temps inside.
    Install and use SmcFanControl 2.2
    Run Apple Hardware Test
You may want to try a clean system install to test with once you have the RAM replaced. Faulty RAM can cause all kinds of issues. And dirty files. Some deeper check for corrupt files than Disk Utility is probably in order.
There is a significant "Inrush-current" on boot and wake from sleep with the 2008s. They need good power, a 1500VA/900W UPS, and sensitive to other equipment on the same circuit.

  • Network Desktop needs to be refreshed after waking from sleep mode

My network is running Win 7 32bit SP1,
All users have their documents and desktop saved on the network.
I'm testing two computers for a new sleep mode policy, and I've noticed that after waking up from sleep outlook will be disconnected and/or require the user credentials again. I seemed to have fixed this by not allowing the computer to turn off the NIC when
going to sleep. However, on the other test machine the desktop icons are gone when waking up from a long sleep (I haven't been able to pinpoint a specific time frame but it has happened after only three or four hours of sleep), if I refresh the desktop the
icons pop up right away. If I start sleep mode manually and wait thirty minutes or so everything is still there.
There are a few different models throughout our network so I want to make sure I have a good policy set to cover any possible nuances. The test machine that this is happening on is a Dell Optiplex 3010.
Also, does anyone know how long it would take the NIC to shut down if it was supposed to and is there a good way to verify and test the network connection while the machine was in sleep mode?
    Thanks

    Thank you for your help.
This is the details of the policy. It is enforced and enabled. I made the adjustments you suggested and it still happening, also it is now happening on both test machines (the other is a Vostro 260), and also to remind you it even happens when I start sleep
mode manually. 1 out of 10 times it doesn't happen, but it's randomly and without me making any changes. In the event log under windows/system I see an event ID 1 "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is disconnected
from network." when it wakes up from sleep. This event has been visible under the the machine I was having trouble with orginally, now it is on both of them.
I really can't wrap my head around this one.
UPDATE: I changed nothing else in the GPO and made one change to both of the computers i manually changed the NIC settings to
Allow the computer to turn off this device, Allow this device to wake up the computer and using a magic packet.
The reason I put that registry preference was because I believed this is the setting that was causing Outlook to ask for a password after a long night or so of sleep.
...Still a bit confused but I'll continue the testing.

  • Restarting after waking from sleep

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3 of which keeps restarting after being left in sleep mode for an hour or two. When waking from sleep mode, the mac functions for about 5 seconds, before restarting by itself. I have tried deleting certain plist files (as suggested by other posts) but that doesn't seem to have helped. I have also recently installed a new hard drive, but i continue to have the same problem. Below is the panic report from the recent restart after waking from sleep mode:
