Corrupted files with automatic red finder tags! :(

Hello,
it's for some time that my mac corrupts files, particularly those videos stored on various hard disk randomly. Each file has a red finder tags and I am not able to open them though I see it size that seems ok...I tried to check hard disk but this not solve problems...

I have today encountered a problem opening old Keynote presentations on my new iMac running Leopard. It cannot open any of the old presentations on my machine because it says they are damaged.
I also could not open an old Pages file because it says the file is corrupt and there was a .xml missing. I later managed to open this by searching for it directly through the application "Open" command and following the search path. It then gave the usual " This was created by a previous version of Pages..." and the Save as warning, but it did open when I went this route. (I have now saved this document as Pages 08 and all is well).
There seems to be a bug in the iWork '08 suite when it comes to older documents.

With excel it is possible to open such a file with the following error message :
"The file you are trying to open, 'filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
Clicking YES, the file is opening correctly with XLS.
How to do the same with Numbers?
When i try to open the same file with numbers i have no "error message" but the information contained in the file is not readable.

Yeah that's true to an extant; microsoft did a good job fixing that but unfortunately allowed it to be re-introduced in 2006 with windows vista where they allowed file naming to receive destructive values (wasn't very fond of this);
in previous versions of windows such values once entered would be followed by an error message telling you those values couldn't be used
I wasn't aware it would pop its ugly head back up into windows 7 but I see otherwise as in the case of mine
(I forgot to mention the period preceded a parenthesis which in turn can be destructive to the file's original format)
Anyway photoshop wont open the file after changing it to .psd leaving an error message stating....
'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop'

Corrupted files with Keynote 08

Hi,
I will try to be as clear as possible because the problem I have is potentially dangerous for any Keynote user. I have been a Keynote user for many years now and I use it systematically to make conferences and conventions. It's really fun to work with that software. But a problem has recently occured with the latest version.
Like many independant workers, I use to work at my office and later at home. So I backup my files on a portable HD to finish them later. I use a backup program that saves that perfectly
Many days ago, I wanted to reopen a keynote file at home when I realized that there was something wrong. When the file opened, it showed me the state of the file BEFORE the backup. First I thought I had forgotten to do the backup. But when I got back on the Finder, I saw that Quick Look showed me the most recent version of the file. More, with a right click on the file I opened the package and I saw all the images embeded in my keynote presentation. So I returned to Keynote and noticed somrthing really weird : the thumbnails show the right of the slides, but the slides themselves are wrong. I had no choice but to make the slides again and finally thought I had done something wrong. But the same thing occured today. And I am sure the backup has been done correctly.
I have tried to save the document as another name to see what happens. When I do so the file is saved without the embeded images that were previously in the package. To resume, if your right file weighed 80 Mo with 50 Mo of images, when you save your corrupted file, it only weighs 30 Mo.
There has been problems with Keynote in the past. Some images were "lost" after a backup but were present in the package. But this is REALLY a problem because you simply lose your work.
i f any of you has an answer I would appreciate. And I hope I made myself clear, because even in French, it would have been hard to explain correctly.

Photoshop CC - corrupted file with red stripes

hello everyone
i've been recently working on a building section for my course. i have nearly finished it, simply wanted to copy some layers to the next file. i noticed that every time i selected the content, I pasted white fill only which was in a shape of the content. it was so weird. i have tried once again with a different layer but it was the same case. when i saved the file and opened it up again, i got two red stripes - one on the left side and one at the bottom. what's more, i can't right-click on the layers - simply doesn't respond. does anyone have any idea what's the reason behind such behaviour ? i'd appreciate any response

That looks like MacOS 10.10 - so you are most likely hitting some of the known video driver bugs in MacOS 10.10.
Disabling GPU drawing in Photoshop's preferences, then restarting Photoshop should help.
Apple is aware of the video driver bugs in MacOS 10.10 and working on solutions.

Corrupt Psd with black,red noise....after PS crash

Someone please help me. I have lost a psd file after an unexpected power failure ..... I have been working on the file and was using the transform tool on a layer and the power went off. Later when i reopened the file it shows a black scren with red lines on a single layer. All layer info is gone. The power DIDNT go when i was saving the file atill it got corrupted. When click file-open....i seee the preview of the psd...but when i open its black
Please help me....I lost 34 hours of work with that file.....there must be some way to get back any info at all...
BTW i also saved the temp files as back up in case it could be of any help

Generally speaking, you should be able to find the last version of the file you saved intact, since Photoshop shouldn't have been doing any file operations to your saved master copy during a Transform.
I'm sorry to say that for the most part people who post here don't often seem to report recovering data successfully from corrupted PSDs. That's not to say you shouldn't try, but don't get your hopes up.
I'd suggest starting with a Windows "Check for Errors" (CHKDSK) on the drive just to make sure the file structure itself is not corrupted. Sometimes that operation can recover lost data.
This is one of the reasons I made an enhancement request for the Adobe software to move the older version of a file to the Recycle Bin when you do a save. That way there would at least be some history of previous files available. But at the moment they don't do that.

Corrupt file type icons in finder

Hi there,
I discovered a problem with small icons in Finder and it's driving me insane that I can't figure out how it happened and how to remedy it. Hope anyone here can help!
The symptoms:
The problem concerns .mkv and .srt files. In the list or column view in Finder, these file types have exec icons instead of the regular VLC icons. However, when I change to icon or cover flow view, the correct VLC icons are shown. Also in quick look the correct icons are shown. So, the problem only seems to concern small icons, but not large ones.
I tried to change the icon via Command+I. The preview icons are correct, only in the tool bar the incorrect small exec is shown. However, when I drag-drop the small exec icon from the bar to the large item, also small exec icon in Finder changes to the correct VLC icons. But only for this particular file and for all files of that type. Also when I download a new .srt or .mkv file the small icons are again exec images. SOO weird!
What scares me a little is that I did a another clean install of Yosemite after I discovered this. And nothing changed! What is happening here? I hope someone can help!
Potential cause:
The problem wasn't there after I updated to Yosemite. I did a clean install and everything was fine. However, at one point I ran the OS X version of Gmaptool (a .img merge app for Garmin navigation maps). The app is only a command line and the file also has an exec icon. After I ran this command line, the problem occurred. Does anyone know how this could have happened?

Perhaps it's a good idea to upload a few screenshots
As you can see in the first three pictures, only small icons show the exec icon. Large ones are the correct VLC icons. The last two show the Info windows. In the first one, you can see the small exec icon in the tool bar. It changed after I dropped this exec icon on the icon field (see second Info picture). However, this only changed the small icon for this particular file, not for all .srt files.
Is there some weird preference causing this? I also found a few system files now have exec icon (see picture below). I think that wasn't the case before. How can I change it? Can I reset the small icons somehow? Would it help to securely erase the hard drive? I have nothing on the drive anyways, so that would be an easy option for me.

Collect Files with .r3d/RED files

Does AE CC or CC 2014 finally collect .r3d (RED) files properly? .r3d files are split into segments, and previously, when collecting, AE would only take the first of the segments, ignoring the rest, leading to corrupt projects and incomplete archives.

Corrupted file with new Pages

I have used Pages for about 3 years and found it to be a good editor for documents. I have recently upgraded to Mavericks which brings a new version of Pages. I have the latest level of pages and OS installed. When I opened a pages document, it asked to move to the new format which I agreed to. I spent 4 hours updating the file saving regularly. When I quit out and tried to reopen the file I get this error message:
"You need a newer version of Pages to open this document"
Clicking OK exits the application. The Learn More button takes me to the marketing page that explains how wonderful Pages is.
Now I am stuck. I have the latest version. And because it updated the original file in place, I have even lost the original file.
What do I do next?

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

I have songs on iTunes that seem to have corrupted files with time. The songs play for a while then suddenly stop mid-song and iTunes goes to the next song. On my iPod the playback pauses for a few seconds then picks up again.

Some of these songs were purchased via iTunes. I would like to download them again but the Download buttons are grayed out when I bring up the purchased songs listing. Any help appreciated. Is there any way to quickly get a file integrity check done?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them (if they are still in your country's store) via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. Or delete them and copy them back (File > Add To Library) from your backup of your downloads/library.

Help with fixing my iTunes - Corrupt File

I need help trying to correct the problem with my iTunes. I just installed the new iTunes update, iTunes 6.0.1, and now my iTunes isn't working properly. Everytime I open my iTunes, my library is gone. Luckily I saved my library before, but I don't want to keep reloading it over and over again when I open iTunes.
I keep getting a message saying, "iTunes.exe - Corrupt File" with a message saying "The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Itunes Library.itl is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility"
I tried to repair iTunes, reinstalling it over and over again, and running the Chkdsk utility, but nothing works.
I am stumped and don't know what to do now.

writing to a file from an applet is going to take a fair amount of work on your part.
in order to write to a file from your applet, you have to use servlets or jsp to write to a file on your server. if you wish to write locally, look into signing your applet or policy settings of your browser.
for writing to a file to the server, i suggest you look into servlets and tomcat to run the servlets.
i just finished a project that used servlets and they take some time to figure out, but its definitely worth your time.

AOL mail doesn't send .doc-files with Firefox

When using Firefox AOL Mail doesn't send .doc-files. Instead a corrupted file with a different size is sent. Any other file type works aswell as sending .doc-files with other browsers works...

I'm getting a similar problem. Snow Leopard Mail for me seems to be choking on large attachments - sending them, forwarding them, or even moving them from one IMAP folder to another.
My mails are getting through, but it takes a long time and they are dragging the whole system to a crawl in the process.

Replace corrupted files

I have some images that are corrupt, they are also corrupted on the vault as well.
I was able to retrieve good RAWS via my Time Machine backup in an old project.
What is the best way of replacing the corrupt files with the good backup copies while PRESERVING my adjustments and ratings?
If I go into the individual packages and try and replace the RAW file one at a time, the OS tells me the file is busy and can't be replaced.
There are probably a few hundred if not a thousand.

you mention packages so I am guessing that you have opened the library, show package contents, etc.
I just went through the process to test it
I quit aperture
showed package contents of the library
showed package contents of the project
then one image at a time in each "file/folder" deleted and replace the file
Aperture when launched just ran without any questions and showed the files correctly.
for me both the following methods worked;
delete and then drag in the replacement method and
the drag and click on the dialogue box asking do I want to replace the file
As far as I can gather you will need to do one file at a time.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
