Corrupted images after editing

I have retouched a batch of tiff photos using the Spot healing tool. I was perfectly happy with the quality of the edit as i saved them. On reopening the images later i noticed that there are blurred/distorted marks all over the images. (near the areas retouched)
I can revert to the original images and undo all corruptions, including retouch edits. Again i have retouched the images and again the same problem occurs.
I have rebuilt iphoto data base using option/Command keys but that didn't fix the problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Folks
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and make a new library there. Import a couple of pics and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Aperture corrupting images during editing

    Hello,
Starting a few days ago, aperture started corrupting images during editing.  This was normally at the time of my fist cut, going through doing simple straighten and croping.  Sometimes it would happen when doing a small lighten or darken of the exposure.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro about a month ago but this only started happening this week.  No OS or Aperture upgrades this week.  I did have a crash earlier this week and after the crash my Spotlight re-indexed my computer.  I updated QuickSilver this week and Awaken.  I tried quiting both QS and Awaken but problem still happens.  The real scary thing is I usally have to go back and re-import the raw CR2 image to fix the problem, doing an update from master or resetting all adjustments does not fix the problem.  Below is an example of an image with the problem.  This is a Version Export of a corrupted image, as you can see the cor  Can I get any help?

The Aperture Libraries are on the local drive.  I do have an external Firewire drive I can use to test your theory but since I recently replaced the whole laptop at the Apple store so I am thinking it is not hardware related but one of three things: an Aperture bug, my configuration, or memory (see more on memory below).
    leonieDF:
I don't think it is related to a hardware issue unless it is memory. I took the laptop into the mac store because I was having a hardware issue not discussed in this thread.  The laptop was completely replaced except for the memory since I purchased 8GB of memory after the computer was purchased.  I put the 8GB memory back into the new laptop.  If this is a memory problem it is not showing up in diagnostics.  I am planning on doing two things this weekend.  First thing is putting back in the original apply memory and testing.  If I still get the issue I am going to do a complete uninstall of Aperture and re-install maybe something in my settings/libaries are corrupted.  I am reaching for straws at this point.  I might also try a complete reformat and only install Aperture and test to see if something else installed might be causing this, but I can't think of what it would be.

  • Corrupt Images after syncing Photos

Has anyone experienced corrupt images after performing a sync?
After activation and at some point during my first sync my machine blue screened. After a reboot it appears that everything is running smooth, however, I notice that most of the pictures that are synched are corrupted and many didn't synch at all.
I removed all synch images and re-synched but I'm still experiencing the same problem.
I'm hoping its an issue with Vista or iTunes and not my phone. Looks like I'm going to have to go out and get that Mac Book Pro after all

Are you saying that the photos are appearing in the wrong albums, or that the photos are in their correct albums but are displayed in the different order within them ? If they are in the wrong albums then try deleting the photo cache from your computer and re-try the sync - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
If the photos are displayed in the wrong order in the albums, then they will be displayed by capture date order unless you are syncing via iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac. To get them in a different order you will need to manipulate their capture dates : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

You're lacking information. We need to know what software you are using what version it is. What computer system and what version is the operating system.

  • Difference in images after edit

I was shooting timelapse, pictures shot with the same settings and with three seconds interval.
The .raw images looked and was just the same. After edit, some differences occurred. If you look at the bottom images. That's the way it should be. But the top image appeared to have lost some contrast. This happened to some images. Why did this happen?
If you look more closely. On top of the images you can see some black unwanted object. It's my window. I couldn't open it any more, and the wind kept moving the frame of the window in my view. Also my floor is a bit uneven so every time I went to check on my camera the camera tilted. I just stabilize and crop the images. But, the low contrast-problem on the top images seem to occur on the images when I stepped in front of the camera and created some movement. Still, .raw-image looked just the same. It was after edit this happened. Shot in manual mode.

It is my analysis that the black window frame at the top is causing the difference in brightness between the two raw images even though exactly the same camera exposure and Lightroom adjustments were used.
Lightroom toning adjustments are somewhat non-linear, meaning the image content dictates how much things become lighter and darker.  This is especially true of Whites, Highlights, Shadows, Blacks and Clarity.
In this situation the window frame at the top is a dark object darker than anything in the rest of the image, so it keeps the darks from becomes as dark as if it wasn't there.
Effectively it means you cannot use the Shadows, Blacks or Clarity with this sequence of raw images because of the varying amounts of black.  The amount of cloud shadowing on the image will also have some effect, especially for Clarity, but less so compared to very dark or very bright pixels.
For this sequence of images, the best thing to do is probably FIRST crop all the images the same so that no extraneous window frame is showing on any of them, THEN synchronize your white-balance and other non-color and non-tone-related adjustments--noise-reductions, sharpening, and THEN do an Export of all the frames to 16-bit TIFs with a ProPhotoRGB color profile.  Reimport these into LR and do your toning and color adjustments.  It is not enough to crop the raw images, because the toning adjustments always look at all the pixels including those outside the crop box, not just the visible pixels.
RAWs and TIFs don't act exactly the same as far as toning and colors but you might start with the raw toning and color settings synchronized to all the TIFs and see if there need to be any other adjustments.  Here is an example of my doing this where the first column of images are your two raw files with identical settings, and the second column being two cropped TIFs with the same adjustments.  You will notice that the hill, especially the bottom-right corner, is a different brightness between the two raws but the same brightness between the two TIFs.
I don't know what would cause the difference in color in the night shots, above, unless it is a slow drift caused by the camera sensor warming up with use and the high-ISO noise increasing and affecting some colors more than others.  If you're seeing a slow drift then this is likely the situation.  If you're seeing the color randomly change back and forth between different frames, then it is likely something else that I don't have a theory for without more information.  Usually a random fluctuation of color among various images happens indoors with fluorescent lighting because the color and brightness changing with the A/C 50Hz or 60Hz frequency.  Nikon cameras for a few years, and the newest Canons, will detect this fluctuation and time the shutter opening with the peak brightness so every shot of a burst will look similar.

  • Problem with attaching/uploading images after editing in Aperture

After I edit images in Aperture, I frequently have trouble uploading them to Flickr or attaching them to an email message because the attachment/uploading tool cannot find the image. When I go to Aperture to view images, the edited image is there; however, it does not appear among the images in the folder where it is stored when I attempt to attach it to an email message or upload it to Flickr. I've tried searching for it by image number and that doesn't help. This never happens to unedited images, only to the ones that have been edited. The issue tends to go away after some time - for example, when I try to repeat the action the following day, the image is "back" where it should be. However, simply restarting Aperture, Flickr, or my browser doesn't help. Obviously, this is extremely frustrating, as I edit virtually all my photos before sharing them. Has anyone experienced this issue and have you been able to figure out a solution? Thank you! Oh, one last note: I've never experienced this issue when editing images with other software, such as Photoshop or Picasa - it only comes up with Aperture.

    Welcome to the user-to-user forum.
Aperture creates the adjusted images as needed, on-the-fly, from the adjustment instructions saved in the Version file. Aperture also keeps Previews of these images, both for its own use, and to share with other applications when a lower-resolution JPG is sufficient. That is why you cannot find your images using Finder or other "File→Open" attempts (which is what you seem to have been trying).
(Previews are worth learning about. Consult the User Manual (a/k/a the Help file).)
In order to create a file, you must export your adjusted Version using Aperture.
Any application which has access to the OS X Media Browser (Mail does) can access these Previews.
There is a free utility which gives similar access to all applications: iMedia Browser. It looks good, but I haven't used it enough to comment.
You should also be able to access images of your adjusted Versions via the "Media" category which shows at the bottom of the sidebar of applicable OS X "File→Open" dialogs.
But the easiest way to email a image from Aperture is simply to use the toolbar icon or the keyboard shortcut "{Option}+e". Select an email program and an image exporting preset (which sets the size and other parameters) via "Aperture→Preferences→Export".
Others may have advice for Flickr. I don't use it.

  • Lightroom 5.5 not selecting images after editing in photoshop cs5

I recently did the 5.5 update and now after cmd E editing in photoshop after I save and close a file it is auto imported into lightroom but not selected.  I am using filters but that is the only variable I could see affecting it.  It used to be done automatically and only takes me a second longer but I'm editing files hundreds at a time and every second counts.

Most likely you need to change the Sort order of your images.  In Library - Grid view there is a tool bar at the bottom of the grid window. If the tool bar isn't visible, hit [ T ] to activate it. Change the sort order to Filename or Capture Time. It is probably set to Added Order.

  • How do I fix missing and corrupted images after update to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Aperture 3.4?

Last night I tried to update to Aperture 3.4 on my MacBook Pro (late 2007 / 3,1 model) and received a message that I needed to install Mountain Lion 10.8.2 first.  However, there was no update in my App Store account for 10.8.2.  The update for 10.8.2 appeared above the Aperture 3.4 update after I restarted the laptop and rechecked for updates.  I proceeded to update Mountain Lion and then Aperture.  Everything seemed to be working fine so I opened Aperture 3.4 and watched it update the database without any issues...
Upon examining the small library (of approximately 1200 images totaling about 8 GB) that I leave on this MacBook Pro specifically for testing Aperture updates, I observed the following:
I know anything can happen with stored images, so I try to create redundancy by duplicating important photos on import to an external device, running Time Machine backups and keeping memory cards stored away until I am comfortable with the integrity of the first 2 methods.  I am not really worried about this specific Aperture Library on this laptop because it has become my "laboratory" for testing new updates before we apply them to our other computers.
In general, I try not to be too early of an adopter when it comes to software and updates--even though I have had remarkably few problems with Apple updates in the past.  However, my success rate with Apple's products and "feature curiosity" occasionally leads me to update early!  It is my curiosity that, again, has me wondering:  What went wrong and how can I fix this in case it happens to something important in the future?

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • When I open an exported image after editing it, it is completely different than the image in Lightroom

I edit an image in Lightroom and happy with the results I export (save) onto my computer.  When I then open the image it looks completely different to the one I just edited and saved!  Very frustrating!  I did not take it in raw format,  I have taken all the photos already and cannot retake them. I am new to Lightroom, only on trial at the moment.
    Help much appreciated

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

  • When I save an image after editing it goes into my Bridge folder instead of Lightroom.

I have been using Photoshop CS5 and Bridge for photo editing.  I recently got Lightroom 4.  When I edit a picture and save it, it goes to my Bridge pictures folder not back into Lightroom.  How do I get it to save into Lightroom?
    Thanks fo ryour help.
    Cheers, Brent

You can try to drag the image in a Photoshop window instead.<br />
If that still doesn't work then you need to save the image and open it in Photoshop.

  • What to do with "multiple" images after editing

The general workflow I like to follow is
    1- Take pictures
    2- Copy pictures to computer
    3- Add GPS information (optional)
    4- Import photos to iPhoto
5- Flag photos that are worth editing/keeping
6- Edit photos in Flagged folder using PSE
7- Select the best photos to make an album
8- From the album make a book, slideshow, etc
What I'm confused about all the "thumbnails/images". I started with 750 photos and now have 1500. Many of the images look very similar since I may have just leveld the horizon.
Is there a quick way to select the images that have been edited?
Can I delete any of the originally edited photos without losing the edited file?
If I can't delete photos, is there a quick way to hide photos?
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    -Alan

Are you using Photoshop from within iPhoto as the editor of choice?  If so this might be of help or may be preaching to the choir:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (click on the Edit button) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.
With iPhoto 9.3 the external editor no longer creates a duplicate of the photo being edited if used from inside iPhoto. What version of iPhoto are you using and what system?

  • Photoshop cc - can't save after edits

Simply cannot save an image, after editing.

Ok, I think the key here is save as vs. save. What I am thinking is the original file is set to read only. Meaning you can not save over top of that file, but you can use save as and create a new file.
In windows explorer locate the file you are opening, then right click on it and see if read only is enabled.

Would you care to comment on why there is an advantage to do this little extra job?
Perhaps you don't want to hear from me, I don't know.
I'll answer just this one little question.  Try to get your mind around what color management does, I promise it does make sense (outside of unexplained problems on particular computers).
You want to save your web image with the sRGB profile embedded because some Internet browsers are color managed, and with an embedded profile it's more likely someone will see your image colors just as you intended.
The assumption is that a lowly windows user with a cheap monitor and Internet Explorer will be seeing any image you save as "roughly" sRGB anyway.  Tagging the image with sRGB only affects those with color-managed browsers.
You're looking for the most possible consistency for the viewing audience.

  • After editing camera raw and export as jpeg, image becomes overexposed when view on light room..please advise.

need some help here. don't know if i can describe this accurately.
i was using lightroom previously. edit my raw file and then export in jpeg. everything appear normal as what i wanted.
recently i got cs4 and started using bridge. now after i edit my photo in lightroom and export, the view of the jpeg file appears overexpose(exposure was increase) and when view on adobe bridge same problem. but if i open photoshop and use my workspace colour setting everything is ok. when i see my picture on iphoto it is normal as per i have edited. i just don't know what setting i have touch that cause my viewing of edited photo on lightroom and bridge goes overexpose. on bridge, thumbnail ok but preview bad...
for the record: i just install CS4 and snow leopard recently. before this i have no problems with LR. I'm also not sure if i have accidentally change any settings.
i shoot with a 5D mark 2 and use the raw file for edit.

    Yes
I've edited and exported an image to a different folder on my desktop. I've realised I still need to do some work on it
but when I try and open it again in Lightroom ( I see it in Library)  I get a mesaage saying file not found...Please help
We're going to need a lot more details aobut exactly (EXACTLY) the steps you follow after you do the export, because normally I would say this is one of the easiest things possible in Lightroom. Are any files moved or renamed or disks unplugged in between the time of export and the time when you try to edit again?
