Corrupted images in windows browsers

Can anyone help? I have made a site which has a number of jpeg images created in photoshop, using "save for web & devices" etc. They are set to 120 dpi and reduced to fit. The site looks fine in browserlab when viewed with chrome, safari and the latest windows browsers. However, in some earlier windows browsers the images are corrupted and not rendered properly, with blurred, wavy edges and unintelligible type. Sometimes, they have disappeared.
How can I correct this?

They are set to 120 dpi and reduced to fit.
This is really not relavent for Web development since Web dimensions are set in px, not dpi.
For best results, resize the images to the exact pixel dimensions used on your Web page and then save the image at whatever compression value give you acceptable results.... the more compression used the smaller the file size (not the dimensions) but the quality is also reduced.

If its animated you'll want to convert it to an FLV file and embed it in your webpage.

Otherwise a standard JPEG or PNG image file should suffice.

  • Audio Not working in Windows Browsers

I have a flash site that was designed using Flash CS3... this site contains an audio that starts playing in the background as soon as the person lands on the home page. This past week, I changed out the leading image and repackaged the site using Flash CS4. Now the audio works in Mac browsers (Safari and FireFox), but not in Windows browsers (IE and Firefox)... any ideas where to begin in trouble shooting this?

Note: there is a on/off toggle in the upper left corner... (also, I inherited this flash design so, I'm still digging through all the layers - let me know if I need to provide code)

On Linux you need proper GStreamer support to play mp3 files with the HTML5 media player.

  • Any new fixes for corrupt images in Lightroom 4.4?

I have seen many threads on this and tried a lot of the tings people say to try. But I do get corrupt images in Lightroom. I currently have an AMD FX-8150, 32GB ram, 2 SSD Raid0 + USB3.0 drives as backup.
    Drive and Memory:
Note, I only keep up to the last 3 shoots on my SSD, the rest are stored on my USB3 drives. Any time I import files to the USB drive I get no corruption. Now that would imply that I have bad drives, I have run diskcheck and contacted Muskin and they had me run some disk checks, speed tests, +other things and identified that the drives are running fine with no issues and this has to be a software issue.
I have run memtest86+ with no errors, also ran memtest86+ with my memory in another machine with no errors.
To rule out the card reader:
When I just copy files from my CF Card to a folder using explorer all images import fine and you can even open every image in photoshop with no issues. As soon as you add those files already copied to the HD to lightroom, they start to corrupt. I just recently used the windows explorer method and added ~400 images to lightroom, all images imported fine, when I later accessed lightroom(Today), about 10% of those images are not corrupt.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be because I use Raid0? Or even SSD drives?
This is quite annoying and I would like to get things fixed.

Usually when Lr renames the photos as you saw kianjillwedding-19, Lr changed the name from IMG_1968. Thats may have something to do with the corruption.
I don't see how. Renaming shouldn't change anything on disk except, well, the name - and of course update a bunch of things in the catalog.

I will get back to you if the problem continues but everything still seems to be fine in Lr5, even after letting Lr rename all the photos with my current(today's) import of 700 images.

~impossible it's Lr4 software. Theoretically possible, but highly unlikely. As I said, Lr4 should never be rewriting those files, and therefore essentially can not corrupt them. I mean, its possible that it got it's brains scrambled, and went ahead and rewrote them, for god-knows why or just for the he|| of it - because some bits seemed to be set wrong..., thus invalidating the assumption that it's not rewriting them. It's just that this scenario is the least likely. I mean, Jeff Schewe has given me spankings more than once before, for even bringing it up, since it's so unlikely...

Although theoretically possible, I'd still venture to guess that's not what happened.

  • CS6 Mini-Bridge showing corrupt image

I didn't know whether to post this in Bridge or here since Mini-Bridge is called from within CS6.  I've rarely used Mini-Bridge in the past because it required Bridge to be running, so I didn't see the need.  A discussion on another forum had me take a look at Mini-Bridge.  It now appears to run without Bridge, though it appears to make some sort of connection to Bridge and have it run in the background.  I pointed it to a folder and noticed several corrupt images.  I then opened Bridge and they looked fine.  I did a screenshot and the image appears corrupt in Mini-Bridge, but fine in Bridge (5.0.2), ACR (7.3), and CS6 (13.0.1).  Mini-Bridge will show several of the images corrupted, while they all look fine in Bridge or any other program.  I'm running Windows7.
The following screenshots show the problem.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Dennis

Mini Bridge always requires Bridge to be active for showing the content of the Bridge files. If you start mini bridge in PS without having Bridge itself zctive a message should appear that you have to launch Bridge and also a launch button to do the task for you.
In Bridge first select the file that appears corrupted in MB and with right mouse click menu choose 'purge cache for selection'. If this is not working first try a reset of the preferences for Photoshop ( on a Mac this is restart PS with holding down shift, option and command key, should be something similar in Windows)
This might work for MB but also resets the other PS prefs to factory default so you have to set your custom wishes again. Not a big deal but you have to be aware of this :-)
Same can be done for Bridge itself with restart Bridge and holding down control key and choose reset preferences. But if your first attempt with purge cache for selection works you can choose the menu tools in Bridge and while having the folder content of the problem files in the content panel choose cache/ purge cache for folder and let it rebuild.

  • I am not seeing placeholders for missing or corrupt images. Is there an option to turn these on or off, or does Firefox not display these by default?

I am a web designer. I use FF as my default browser for everything--including work. When viewing pages containing broken image links or corrupted images, no placeholders show to indicate the problem.
I have to use another browser to check my work. Placeholders are such basic elements that they should appear without having to switch browsers or search for options.
Thinking I may have accidentally unset an option for viewing image placeholders, I have looked everywhere in the options (including Web Dev tools) and have searched support. I have found absolutely nothing to solve my issue.
Firefox--whatever version I had installed prior to a computer reformat and browser reinstall--was doing the same, so please don't suggest a FF reinstall or reset as a possible solution.

In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following steps :
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' to continue to the about:config page.
#Search for browser.display.show_image_placeholders and make sure it is set to true.
That was a configuration that was from a very early on version of Firefox, so if this does not make a change there is more:
What is interesting is that there is also a css that allows the styling of the broken images: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/-moz-force-broken-image-icon]
This was an inter sting hack for the personal profile in Firefox : [http://megashare.altervista.org/blog/2012/08/enable-broken-image-placeholders-in-firefox/]
Please post back with your results, thank you!

  • APEX4.2 corrupted  Images

    Hello
    APEX Environment : apex.oracle.com
    My OS : Windows7
    Browser : FireFox 16.0.2
I have an example Application in my apex.oracle.com workspace.
The application displays 2 simple jpeg images within separate regions on the Home page
    e.g. <img class="largeArt" src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#projectspreadsheet.jpg"/>
Before the upgrade to apex.oracle.com the images displayed perfectly in APEX 4.1.1
After the upgrade of apex.oracle.com to APEX 4.2 the images displayed appear corrupted and partially displayed
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=30002
    I tested this in Browsers:
    Firefox, IE9, Safari 5.1.7
Is there any reason for this? Do I need to change any new settings I am not aware of?
Ironically when I tested the same application in my iPhone browser the images appear normally
    Kind Regards
    Ade

    Hi Tony
There seems to be only half of the image displayed with a lot of distortion.
I have made the first image on the Home page an anchor tag, so when you click on the Spreadsheet image you will see the jpeg image of my view of the corrupted images on the home page
I have tried in Fire Fox
Firefox menu>options>Network Tab>Cached Web Content - Clear Now button
Is there another option to clear the cache??
The same thing happens in IE9 and Safari 5.1.7
    Kind Regards

  • Corrupted image(s)

    Hello,
Hello, Since upgrading to 1.4.1 I have noticed that on rare occasion a corrupted image. So to test, I recently manually down loaded a photo shoot to my hard drive and inspected the images (Canon 5D cr2 RAW) with Canon DPP (in the mode equivalent to LR develop). All the images were fine. They were then imported in LR. All the images were viewed in the library module and all looked fine. Then the images were examined in the develop module which when I noticed a corrupted image. The corruption takes the form of where a portion of the image contains rectangle with one color channel missing. That is about the best I can describe it.
As further testing, I examined the corrupted image with DPP again. DPP now reports the image is corrupted which it did not before. I believe this is NOT file system corruption as is appears that windows is not reporting a file system problem to the applications.

I thought they would have fixed this. This is an ongoing issue from the early days of LR2 (maybe before). In my case, I had imported several hundred images without knowing that the D80 had a bad SD card. About 40% of the images were corrupted.. but they looked fine on the back of the camera because the imbedded JPEG (I shoot RAW) was fine. Lightroom on the other hand crashed every single time I tried to load the catalog and it hit one of these images. I ended spending hours going in and manually deleting the offending images. I would load the catalog and note the file name of the image that caused it to crash. I would then go to the folder and delete it and try again. I also make a bit copy of the SD card so if something went really wrong, I could work on a new set of files.
Also, I dont know if you have a friend with a Mac, but a tool called "Filejuicer" can pull the embedded JPEGs out of the RAW file even when it's corrupted. I was able to recover almost 100% of the bad files this way. I did give up alot of adjustment in post but at least I had something to work with.

  • Frustration - Iphoto corrupting image files during import (?)

To begin with, I'm a recent convert from Windows to the Mac. I'm running a mac mini at home, and a Macbook with Boot Camp at work (in addition to my desktop pc). All of my software is up to date...
I take alot of pictures with my digital camera (canon powershot). Saturday I took about 300 pictures, took the SD card out of the camera, put it into my Sandisk card reader, imported the pictures into iphoto and everything worked great. I chose to not delete the pictures after the import as I wanted to bring the card into work and upload the pictures on my pc.
The next day (Sunday) I took another 70 or so pictures. I was able to view all of the pictures on my camera that I had taken over the past two days.
I go to do an import , taking the exact same procedures that I took on Saturday (and that I always do). The first thing it does is identifies that there are duplicate pictures. I choose the option of "don't import duplicates" and apply this to all of the other duplicate pictures.
At the end of the import, I got an error message saying that some of the files were corrupt. Now, there were pictures from Saturday that were still on there (and readable/viewable). However, every picture that I took on Sunday was "unreadable" and did not show up in iphoto. I put the card back into the camera, and now I can't view the pictures (they show as "corrupted data".
I then pulled the SD card details up in Finder, and the "corrupt" files still show sizes of 2.4mb to 2.8mb, consistant with the good pictures. It shows the file's "Kind" as JPG Image... I double clicked on them and Preview comes up saying something to the extent that the file is corrupt,
I've taken the Sandisk card reader, plugged it into my Macbook (using iphoto in osx) and was able to view one or two of the pictures from Sunday.
Once I got to work this morning, I plugged the sd card into my Windows machine and it too says the files are corrupt. It shows them being on the card, it shows the file sizes, but I can't open the pictures in anything...
If this was a one time deal, I'd be thinking it may be something I've done to cause the problem. However, this is the third instance I've "lost" all of my photos because of them becoming corrupt during an import into iphoto. There definately appears to be a pattern.
I have somewhere around 8,000 pictures inside iphoto that I've taken and had no problems with. I mention this to illustrate that I'm not doing anything differently than I've done before. I have another 14,000 on my old Dell that I need to move over, but I'm questioning if I should do that now.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Is anyone else experiencing (present or past tense) this problem? Where I'm new to the mac, I understand that I might be doing something wrong. However, I've imported photos to the software (what seems like) hundreds of times, the same way each time. This makes me want to rule out user error...
One other question, I'm saving the "corrupt files" with the hope that there's a software program which will "fix" the files. Do you happen to know of such a piece of software? I'm hoping that I can get them fixed at some point.
Where I'm taking pictures of my kids, its extremely frustrating to find out that the pictures (memories) I was hoping to make prints of are now "gone". Its almost like rolling the dice when doing a photo import any more. Most all of the time it takes, but every now and then the pics are lost...
I'm hoping to identify the problem (either user error, procedure or software issue) and fix it as I really like the mac.
Any help/suggestions you might have for me would greatly be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
First: the corrupt files: download Graphic Coverter, a shareware which is often successful where other software isn't. But first, if the Mac will let you, copy the files off the card to the Mac.
I'm in this board a while now, and I can't recall an issue of iPhoto corrupting images on import. After all, it's just a simple file copy, at heart. I would be more inclined to suspect the card. DO you have more than one? Does the problem also occur with the other cards?
Try use Image Capture to download the pics to the Mac first, then import them, see does that help. Image Capture is in your Applications folder.

  • Tecra M11 - Card reader and corrupt images

When I put an xD card into the Tecra M11's front slot, the pictures that it downloads are corrupted. When downloading through an external xD card reader (e.g. the camera itself) the images are okay. Here is an example of a corrupted image:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonjudge/5816195077/in/set-72157604215066892
Here is the same image downloaded from the camera through USB:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonjudge/5856376812/in/set-72157626887798337
Is this a Windows 7 (32 bit) driver problem (I can't find any driver updates in the awful driver website that takes me down numerous blind alleys) or could it be a hardware problem?
    Jason
PS What is it about this forum that keeps throwing my cursor into the subject box as I'm typing in the message field?

    Hi,
It is the Olympus xD card that came with the camera. I have never formatted it, and never had any problems using any other card reader.
I'll try the links again for the driver. What I tend to find happens with the drivers site, is that it identifies my laptop, tells me there is a driver for hardware feature X and my OS, provides me with a link to "download this driver", and when I follow the link it takes me to a much higher level on another Toshiba site where I have to sift through hundreds of drivers for every other model of hardware, none of which are named in a way that makes it easy to identify what I need. For example, it told me there was a wireless LAN driver update recently, then sent me to the site where the drivers are named after the wireless LAN chipset, with about five different chipsets to choose from. Why does it send me to all those choices when it started out knowing everything it needed to know about my model laptop? So, I would not say it is "easy".
I'll give it another go though.

  • Socket.close doesn't work in Windows browsers?

I've been trying to figure this out for days and I can't seem to find anything on why this is happening or how to fix it.
I have an FTP program written that uploads ByteArrays through sockets.  It works great on my Mac!  I open a command connection, then a data connection, send the ByteArray and then use socket.close() on my data connection.  This causes the server to disconnect me and sends the 226:transfer succeeded message back through my command connection.
The problem is that in IE8, FF 3.5, and Safari 4 on Windows the socket.close() func does not make the server close the connection.  The fact that it works in all of my Mac browsers, and the IDE, but not in Windows browsers makes me think that it's something to do with the Flash Player.  Is this possible?
    My FP version check data:
    MAC 10,0,32,18
    WIN 10,0,32,18
Does anyone know how I can fix, or even debug, this?

does anyone have any idea what could be going on here?  am i completely out to lunch?

  • Attempting to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 (using an ancient Mac OS 10.3), but received an error message (corrupt image file) when downloading - any way to correct this with my current OS?

I'm currently trying to update a few programs on my good old (VERY old) Mac Powerbook, but I ran into an error when downloading Firefox version 3.6...I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.3.9, which isn't compatible with the most recent versions of Firefox (or anything, for that matter), but it should still allow an upgrade of version 3.6; however, once the file finished downloading, an error message popped up indicating there's a corrupt image file. Is there any way to work around/correct this problem, or am I stuck with my old version of Firefox until I bite the bullet and upgrade my OS??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Firefox 3.6 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.3.9 is Firefox 2.0.0.20 available from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/

  • I see a distortion icon image in Windows 8.1 but not in windows 8

I saw distorted icon image in windows 8.1 but not in Windows 8. This bug doesn't affect Windows 8.1 functionality but causes some icons to look ugly, distorted, fuzzy. This bug can be seen in "Delete confirmation dialog box". The
folder icon in delete confirmation dialog box will look distorted and ugly. Black edges will appear around the icon and the icon will not look correct. The same thing also happens in "Send To" menu.
Also heard that this bug is not related to graphics card driver or any other thing.
Hope windows will take necessary actions to solve this bug as soon as possible so that users like us can be satisfied with the new windows 8.1.

I had all photos on a Windows desktop.  Got a mac laptop, installed LR5, and put all images from Windows onto an external hard drive.  When I go to import them into LR on the mac, they are all locked.  Help, please!

"I plugged the external into the Mac and moved a folder of images onto the desktop.  It looks like it went from read only to not locked.  Is this possible?"
Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

  • How do you create a disk image of windows so u can increase partition size?

Ok, I have installed windows on my mac using bootcamp so i can play pc games and such. I mainly use the mac side of the computer but I have 30 GB devoted to windows. I ran out of space though and now want to uninstall windows so i can make the windows partition bigger. The problem is that I don't want to have to install ALL of my programs over again once i reinstall windows so I want to take a disk image of windows which i can revert to once it is reinstalled. I tried using the disk utility to do it but it keeps giving me error messages. Does anyone know how do create a disk image using windows??? or maybe I'm doing something wrong with the disk utility??? HELP!

The easiest way I have found to do this is to backup the windows partition with a program such as WinClone
    http://twocanoes.com/winclone/
Then use the bootcamp assistant to erase and recreate the partition, finally restoring the backup to the new partition. I have done this several times with my mac and it works great.
