CORRUPTED INSTANT CLIENT IA64 DISTRIBUTIVE

Hello!
We found what Oracle Instant Client for Windows 64-bit Itanium downloadable from
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/instantclient/instantclient-basic-win64-10.1.0.3-20050303.zip is corrupted.
Could you check it and fix the problem, please?
Thanks in advance,
Yuri Khvorostyanov

... and what is your question?
Don't forget to quote error messages and Oracle versions from the working and from the not working system.
Are there any differences in the environment variables on both systems?
Yours,

  • I'm trying to distribute a DB Application using the Instant Client provided

    Hi!!
I'm trying to distribute a DB Application using the Instant Client provided by Oracle.
I've checked the FAQ of Oracle and says the Instant Client supports all existant versions of Oracle.
But I've also seen in another posting that the oci.dll needs the same Oracle version file it was created with.
I need to distribute an application that provides all the 8i, 9i and 10g versions.
Do I have to distribute the oci.dll for each version?
I just wanted to check if this was true.
One more question, when I uncompress the Instant Client, many files appear from which
I only left oci.dll, oraocci11.dll and oraociei11.dll and erased them all, but the program
    still works. Is it ok?
    thanx

I am not sure what you mean if you say that you "need to distribute an application that provides all the 8i, 9i and 10g versions".
If you mean that you want your application to be able to access Oracle Databases of versions 8, 9 and 10, then you can use Instant Client 10.2.0.4 which is able to connect to all of them.
If your application does not need more than the three DLLs you mention to run, that should be fine.

  • Instant client 10.2 / Oracle home 8.1.7 coexistence

Hi, I've searched the forum and other web sites for this info and not found a concise answer, so sorry if I've just missed it.
I support an application that uses 10g as back end, and want to distribute instant client 10.2 ODBC driver for Windows with it. It turns out that some users have 8.1.7 ODBC driver already installed - including the environment variable TNS_ADMIN which references the location of the tnsnames.ora file the may be used by the driver.
Now, if I install the instant client driver to my preferred default location, create my own tnsnames.ora file, and modify TNS_ADMIN to point to this new location, my driver works fine. I don't know what it is doing to the 8.1.7 driver, however, and unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding what it is actually used for and thus cannot test it.
When I place my tnsnames.ora file in the same directory as that of the 8.1.7 driver and merge the files, my new entries don't seem to be recognized. My hope is that the 8.1.7 driver really does not need the TNS_NAMES variable because it has all of the necessary information written to the registry - which appears to be the case.
So, 1) can I safely point TNS_NAMES to my file and not mess up the 8.1.7 driver? 2) If not, how can I make the two drivers coexist short of manually swapping the value of TNS_NAMES when I want to switch between drivers.
Thanks in advance any help you can provide.

The culprit turned out to be an sqlnet.ora file that set the default_domain to "world". Once I changed my file to append ".world" to all of my alias names, it works fine. Instant client doesn't require the sqlnet.ora file, but it can use it. Unfortunately, I have found other applications on some user systems that use different default domains. I've modified my installation script to parse the sqlnet.ora file (if it exists) and append the correct domain to my alias names, but that isn't going to help me when one of these applications is installed after mine and an sqlnet.ora file is created or stepped on after the fact. Any ideas on getting around this problem?
On a related note, what is the value of the default domain anyway? What would happen to the other applications if I simply delete the sqlnet.ora file and modify their tnsnames.ora entries to have no suffix? I certainly don't want to do this if it will have a negative impact, but if it is really not necessary for our local network configuration, maybe it isn't really necessary.

  • USername and password for Instant Client

    Hi,
Im trying to install the instant client on my desktop for an SQL plus remote server. When I run sqlplus.exe it asks me for a username and password.. where do I get that from?

That would be the user name and password for the database you are trying to connect to. The DBA may be in charge of creating accounts and handing out passwords-- if not, he should know who is.

  • ORA-01816 when running with Oracle Instant Client

    good morning
we are running the same SQL script on 2 computers.
    - native system with DB
    - via Oracle Instant client
when running via the instant client i get the following error.
    ( select to_char(to_date('1970-01-01') + "DATE" / 86400000, 'YYYY-MM-DD') "CD", logical_name
    ERROR at line 2:
ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    thanks for any hint

It probably works on one and not the other because you have set the NLS_DATE_FORMAT for one system to match the format of the string you are passing in, so Oracle knows how to do the implicit conversion.

  • AIX 64-Bit Instant Client

Why does the instant client download only include libclntsh.a and libocci.a for the Client Code Library and the OCCI Library respectively? Where are the .so dynanimc link libraries with the instant client? I see those with the full Oracle install in the $ORACLE_HOME/lib directory on AIX 64-Bit.
Does that mean that to build instant client compatible apps, I can only statically link libclntsh.a and libocci.a? I'm a little confused since the documentation suggests otherwise.

That one is easy, and I will explain it in a second.
What really is mysterious is that "polittba" gets an error on "ar -t libclntsh.a", but that may be due to a corrupted file...
For what it is worth, libclntsh.a from 10.2.0.4 yields the following checksum:
    $ cksum libclntsh.a
    1526887592 24719097 libclntsh.a
To your problem: The error message is misleading. "ldd" can find libc.a fine, the "Cannot find" is an incomplete error message for a different library that "ldd" cannot find.
Very annoying, and I would say that this is a bug in AIX' implementation of "ldd".
The "Cannot find" is actually because it cannot find libclntsh.a
See for yourself: if you set LIBPATH correctly to point to your instant client directory, you get:
    $ LIBPATH=/wherever/instantclient_10_2 ldd libociei.so
    libociei.so needs:
    /wherever/instantclient_10_2/libclntsh.a(shr.o)
    /usr/lib/libc.a(shr_64.o)
    /usr/lib/libpthreads.a(shr_xpg5_64.o)
    /usr/lib/libdl.a(shr_64.o)
    /usr/lib/libodm.a(shr_64.o)
    /usr/lib/libperfstat.a(shr_64.o)
    /unix
    /usr/lib/libcrypt.a(shr_64.o)
    /usr/lib/libcfg.a(shr_64.o)
    /usr/lib/liblvm.a(shr_64.o)
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe
PS: I just notice that Instant Client 10.2.0.4 for AIX ships with both libclntsh.a and libclntsh.so.
That is a bit confusing because - as I said some postings above - the former is a shared library.
    But then what is libclntsh.so?
"file" will tell you it is a shared object.
    Now look:
    $ ar -t libclntsh.a
    shr.o
Ah, this shared library contains exactly one shared object. Let's extract it:
    $ ar -x libclntsh.a shr.o
    Now compare shr.o and libclntsh.so:
    $ ls -l shr.o libclntsh.so
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 laurenz staff 24140392 May 10 20:36 libclntsh.so
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 laurenz staff 24140392 Oct 24 08:59 shr.o
    $ cksum shr.o libclntsh.so
    1406909702 24140392 shr.o
    1406909702 24140392 libclntsh.so
    They are the same!
So Oracle ships the same thing twice: once as shared library AIX style (*.a) and once as shared object.
I assume that this is to cater to those people who come from other UNIXen and look for *.so as a shared library.
Or ported tools that do the same.
You can use both the shared library *.a and the shared object *.so for dynamic linking.
The linker "ld" will search for both if you pass "-lclntsh" and will take the first one it finds.
If both are in the same directory, "ld" will use the *.a library, but you can change that preference with the "-brtl" flag.
Sorry for the long rant that probably is not interesting to most, but I feel that there is much misunderstanding of shared libraries on AIX amoung people who come from - say - Linux.
And one more attempt to clear that up can't hurt.

  • Instant client for Solaris AMD x64

    Hi,
I am desperately looking for OCI instant client for solaris AMD x64. I tried instant client download page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html) but it is not listed there. I have no idea who to contact within Oracle or Oracle tech support.

    Thank you,

I've just downloaded the basic and sqlplus zip files and sqlplus works fine. sqlplus is linked to libclntsh.so.10.1, so I doubt that file is corrupt.

  • Registering Instant Client path

To install Instant Client in my windows2000 server PC I followed these instruction steps:
    1. I have downloaded Instant Client Basic
    2. unzipped files to c:\Ora_instacli directory. The files in this directory are two .jar files and some .dll files
Step 3 says " Set the library loading path in your environment to the directory in Step 2". What are the correct steps to do this?
I have a directory c:\program files\oracle with Inventory, jre and oui folders inside it, installed sometime ago. Must I delete it?. I deleted c:\OraHome1 and changed the registry entries pointed to this to point to Ora_instacli.

We have a system which uses OCCI to connect to a
database. The database connection is optional for the
system. As it is an optional module, we didn't want
our clients to install something on their OS which is
only needed by our system. Therefore, we thought that
distributing the occi instant client would be a good
solution. We deliver the libraries which are provided
by the instant client along with our application. The
libraries and the executable are in the same
directory so that the application can access those
dlls. This is sufficient if there is no oracle client
    installed on the system.
But if there is already an oracle client
installation, things get somehow mixed. I found out
that even if I uninstall the existing oracle client,
there will be some registry entries used.
This is why I asked for the possibility to use the
instant client parallel to the existing installation.
If you could provide me the things to be considered,
that would be really great.I see. I'll try to compile a list of problems we encountered and things to consider, but it might not be a complete list and I take no responsibility :^)
The following assumes that we are on Windows.
    - Make sure that only one client is in the PATH environment variable. There is a bug (fixed, I think, in 10.2.0.3) that may cause a mix of shared libraries from both clients to be loaded if both are in the PATH.
    - If you want to run the instant client, make sure that no Oracle environment variables are set except for TNS_ADMIN and maybe LDAP_ADMIN or any of the NLS_* variables. Do not set ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and the like.
    - Make sure there is no "oracle.key" file in your Instant Client directory.
In your case, you could modify the environment before you start Oracle Instant Client and make sure that PATH does not include another Oracle client.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

  • Oracle 11g INSTANT CLIENT for Mac OS 10.8 with SQLLDR and WRAP

To Oracle please upgrade INSTANT Client 11g and/or 12c (future) and include two additional utilities I always use SQLLDR and WRAP. Currently I have to open a Linux VM to wrap and use SQL*Loader. I would prefer to do it all in the terminal window.
Actually I would like to see sqlldr and wrap utilities included with all instant clients (Linux, Windows, Mac OS, etc)

Can you see the difference? (btw i am sure, genezi -v as sidadm worked with 11.2.0.1)

  • Instant Client on Vista

Could someone please let me know if/when Oracle is going to release a Instant Client version compatible with Vista?
Oracle is very relaxed about public information.
    Thanks in advance.

I already stated in a prior response to look at note
403021.1 and patch 5699495. However, as Instant
Client cannot be patched, they would have to wait
until a newer, patched version is distributed.Hmm, I'm not sure that Instant Client cannot be patched (in this case).
According to the README for Patch 5699495, it just consists of
    sqora32.dll
    sqoras32.dll
    sqresus.dll
    ODBCRelnotesUS.htm
    readme.txt
    oraodbus.msb
You will not be able to apply the *.msb file to Instant Client, but that will probably just lead to a couple of missing error messages.
But one could try to replace the DLLs.
I think it would be worth the effort to try, specifically if there is no alternative.

  • Instant client for Oracle 8.1.6

Hi, I need some previous version of instant client for ODBC. Current version needs at least Oracle 8.1.7. Is it possible to download ODBC instant client with support for 8.1.6?
    Thanks
    Paja

In my testing, the 10g full client will only connect to 8.1.7.4 and later databases. I beleive the 10g Instant Client would have the same restrictions.
If you have an 8.1.6 back end, you would need to install a 9i full client to connect or to purchase a third-party wire-protocol ODBC driver that supports 8.1.6. The Instant Client is a new 10g feature.

  • To Find the version of Oracle Instant Client in SAP

    Hi,
I am a newbie in SAP with oracle. I have planned to upgrade the Oracle Instant Client Version in our systems.
The following is our system specificatiosn:
    SAP : ECC6.0
    Database : Oracle 10204
    OS : HP-UX 11.23 ia64
I have the following observations with respect to finding the version of the Oracle Instant client in  SAP.
    a)  As per the SAP note : 819829, the version of the Oracle client can be found using the command "genezi-v" under the path
    genezi -v
    Client Shared Library 64-bit - 10.2.0.4.0
    System name:    HP-UX
    Release:        B.11.23
    Version:        U
    Machine:        ia64
    b) From the SAPGUI, I have found the version of the DB Client library as  OCI_102 (10.2.0.1.0).
    Following are my queries:
    1) Which of the above methods can be considered to find the correct version of Oracle Instant client in SAP?
    2) If the method b gives the correrct version --> Where does this value is picked up from OS level?
    with regards,
    Arul

    Hello Arul,
just look at a work process trace file .. you will find a section like this while starting SAP or restarting the work process.
    Loading DB library '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' ...
    Library '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' loaded
    Version of '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.o' is "700.08", patchlevel (0.110)
    Got LIBPATH=/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run:/usr/lib:/lib:/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run:/opt/kerberos/lib:/oracle/client/10x_64/i
    Oracle Client Version: '10.2.0.4.0', (dbsl 701 140910)
There you can find the actual used client version ... also SAP delivers a file called SAPIC_README in the oracle client directory, which gives you information about the client version and its applied patches.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Not able to connect VS Web Developer Express through instant client 10

I just spent 10 hours attempting to connect Web Developer Express 2010 to an Oracle 10g database. In the end the solution was beyond simple, but with the existing threads there is a lot of talking around the problem. I’m posting this in case it might help someone else.
Obtain the Oracle instant client software that will work for your database. You will only need the basic package.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-100365.html
Extract the contents to a temp location on your hard disk
Create a directory for the application – it could be anything, but here is what I used
    C:\instantclient
Copy the extracted files into the directory you just created.
Right click on my computer and choose properties
Under advanced and environment variables you will need to add the directory you created above to the system variables PATH. You will need to create a new system variable called TNS_ADMIN and put the same c:\instantclient path in it.
Create the file tnsnames.ora under the c:\instantclient directory and put your customized entry in it. Below is an example.
    tnsnams.ora file contents
    <Alias for this tnsnames entry> =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <Your Oracle Server>)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = <Your database instance>)
It’s a good idea to restart your system after this installation.
In web developer express use the .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB.
Here is the key piece of information!!
Under server name you need to use the alias from the tnsnames.ora file entry. If you do not do this it will not pick up the SERVICE_NAME parm and will give you some goofy error like:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor
    or
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
