Corrupted iPod - Trying to restore Fact. Settings
After something happened to my iPod (ie software was acting up after one connection, all my files (music, pics, vids) were deleted and I was told to restore to factory settings. So I download iTunes However, when I try to restore my iPod in normal mode, iTunes freezes and does not recognize the iPod.
When I try to restore from "Disk Mode" the iPod is detected in an unfrozen iTunes, however it states "There was a problem downloading the iPod software... The requested resource was not found."
Why can't I restore my 5th Gen iPod to factory settings so I could start using it again?

You're not alone, I have the same problem right now. After a certain amount of time updating after restoring, iTunes says that "The requested file cannot be found" and stops updating. So, I restore, rinse, and repeat, so to speak.

I upgraded my old iphone 4s to an iPhone 6+ last Sunday (12/28). I've been trying to restore my settings and whatnot thru the icloud restore, and have been unsuccessful. The Wi-Fi connection isn't the problem, I'm not sure what is. The error message I keep getting is: "couldn't connect to icloud", it's been 5 days!! How do I fix this?
Hi I would Restore New iPhone back to Factory Settings After Restore use same Apple ID & you will get all your Apps &Data back. This will get rid of any bugs. Cheers Brian

IPad frozen when trying to restore factory settings
Tried to restore factory settings and iPad froze all the screen shows is the little circle going round and round can anyone help
Try a reset again.
If a reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
2. Connect USB cable to computer
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad -
Ipod touch wont turn on or sync after trying to restore original settings.
I tried to restore my ipod touch to original settings on the actual ipod and it said it would take a hour or so and now my ipod wont turn on or sync to itunes...

But that requires the computer to see the ipod. I am having the same problem and I keep being told to restore it, but you have to either get the ipod to turn on or have the computer see it in order to so that. Right now I have a pretty useless 32GB ipod touch cos I cant get the thing to turn on! I can only get the apple logo for like maybe 20 seconds and it goes away. Ive charged it for days on a wall charger, on the computer usb charger, and on a speaker charger. Nothing works.

Trying To Restore Factory Settings
(Apologies for this double post, trying to find my way to the right forum)
Hi all,
My iPod has been getting worse over the last month, and now won't play anything.
I thought it might be time to wipe it clean and restore factory settings. I downloaded updater from here:

Ran the updater. It seems to have erased everything on the iPod, without installing the update. The iPod no longer mounts on desktop. iPod screen seems to be asking me to plug iPod in to wall socket. iPod was fully charged before update procedure.
I just want to wipe iPod clean of any corruption, install the latest iPod software, and then will reimport tunes.
I've always charged iPod battery from iMac, don't think we have wall adapter, and don't understand why it is needed now.
My best guess is I have the iPod with Clickwheel. iPod was a gift from friend, no packaging. Manual does not identify iPod.
Basically, I seem to have killed my iPod, and will surely be grateful for any advice. Thanks!Thanks for your report Ken, maybe we can figure it out if we work together.
I'm all Mac here, so Vista may not be the issue.
Do you have the actual wall adapter? I don't have it, and never needed it, but looks like I'll have to try to buy one to get past this.
Regrettably, the manual is worthless on this issue.
As best I can figure it, the restore process wiped the ipod clean, but didn't reinstall the needed software. So now the ipod can't talk to the computer?
Dunno. We need the help of somebody who knows more than us, or knows where to find such help.

Corrupted iPod, Won't Restore, Error 1416
I switched from a PC to Mac last summer and only today realized I had never officially formatted my iPod for Mac, so I decided to do that. Everything updated and seemed to be working fine. I just tried to connect my iPod to update some new music, and I've hit a storm of trouble. I connected it and iTunes said my iPod was corrupted and needed to be restored. I then tried to restore it and got a message saying "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1416)." What should I do? This is pretty terrible, I have a 4-5 hour drive tomorrow that will apparently now be iPod-less. My computer is fully up to date with Leopard. Thanks in advance for any help.
Have you tried using Disk Utility? It's under Applications - Utilities. Select your iPod as the volume to work with, and try doing the first aid stuff first, and if that doesn't help, you should be able to restore the iPod from there. Good luck!

Okay. I bought my iPod Classic in February of 2008. I've had it for about 6 months and I tried to plug it into my laptop (a G4) a couple weeks ago and iTunes said it was corrupted and it needed to be restored. Well, after flipping out for about an hour, I tried to verify and repair the disk. It worked once, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in to the computer, and it said the same thing on iTunes. Then I tried to verify and repair the disk AGAIN, but it wouldn't work. I finally got to plug it into our desktop (a G5) and it STILL said the iPod was corrupted. So I tried to restore it, but it said that it couldn't restore because the disk was damaged. Call me crazy, but I don't want to spend ANOTHER $250 on ANOTHER iPod. HELP ME!!

For some reason my 5th Gen iPod has become corrupt.
When connected to iTunes I get a message to restore it which I have done several times.
Is there a file on my Mac that is also corrupt causing the iPod to be restored which continues to corrupt it?
Once I connected it to another Mac and gave it a different name it has behaved so far. If I change the name to what it had been the silliness starts all over again.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

My daughter forgot her passcode to her ipod touch. I tried the restore information that I found online through Apple support, but this didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help
You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.

New Mac only 5 days old. Daughter accessed a movie website and now popups keep appearing and unable to access any other Internet sites without being redirected. You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked. -
So i have an HP e118dx running on windows 8.1 with very little software on it. Currently running FF 37.0.1 and in wireless mode it always hangs up, runs slow, or times out. When plugged in it runs just fine. Can get on net using IE via wireless and no issues. So it seems to be something specific to FF on the wireless side. Thought it might have been my wireless card but running IE just fine seems to rule that out.
Have already tried system restore a few times, factory reset, turn off hardware accel., run in safe mode(FF), disabled add ons and nothing seems to help. If i have tabs open while wired, then go wireless and refresh the pages or browse on the already open pages i tend to get a couple minutes of trouble free experience before it slows to a halt again.
To recap....FF on wireless=slow and wired=fast. No difference when using IE wireless---always fast.Not sure what you mean by # of connections being made. Not sure if that means tabs open, or folks using the actual wireless network. A while back when i was going through this with the isp i got a crash coarse on how to go into the modem and check a bunch of different stuff, as well as reset things. When looking in there only 1 or 2 computers showed on the network. The network is password protected......i guess protected only to the extent that a pswrd can. Not certain if someone nefariously connected somehow.....didn't show up when looking for users on the network though.
The first bullet point......Not sure how to do any of that so i'd say no.
Second bullet point......Yes, did lots of clearing temp files, caches, history, etc. along with systems restores and factory resets. although not exactly sure what you mean by dns cache. Might have done this but don't recall specifically seeing that.
Third bullet point.....It doesn't make any difference on this end whether its on no proxy, auto proxy, manual proxy. While i have no idea what all this stuff does/affects performance i played with it on all different settings and nothing changed here. Put it back to no proxy.
The thing is even when my wireless FF is acting up other devices in the home can be on the wireless with no issues. Think the other devices are using Chrome and some phone wifi hookup. Keep in mind if i switch to IE on the same device with FF windows open the IE will run just fine. At any given time there should only be 1-4 devices on the network so i'm guessing that shouldn't overload anything. Besides none of the other devices ever seem to come into this issue.
There always seems to be some issue that pops up after updates. Can't ever just leave working things alone. -
Can anyone help please? Backed up Iphone 4s to icloud and received the replacement one. So I am trying to restore from icloud. Unfortunately, the phone tells me that the IOS system (showing 6.1.2 required) is incompatible and so are the previous 3 backups... I dont have the laptop to hand in order to backup to itunes either. I'm guessing I cant set up as a new phone, get the latest IOS system update and then restore the backup from icloud... or can I?
On your new phone: Settings>General>Software Update. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You'll now be able to use your backup.
