Corrupted jpegs from LR export

Hi all,
I just finished processing my first wedding photos in LR2. After exporting the photos to jpegs I am checking them in bridge and see that roughly a little over half (about 350 photos) of my exported images were showing some random vertical and horizontal lines as if those files were corrupted. That never happened before in LR1. Has anyone here experienced the same problem?
I had to re-export these images consuming a lot of my time. I am using a Windows XP sp3, though when I exported the images I was still in sp2.
ps.: The images took literally 3 hours longer to export in LR2 than it used to in LR1.
Any help is appreciated,
Lisa

Yes I confirm. I first posted a problem regarding the Exporting of JPG's out of Lightroom in this thread here:
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b63f9d/2
Following advice contained in that thread my thinking changed somewhat and I believed that the problem might have been in dpMagic - a small application that allows one to view CR2 images in Windows Explorer along with other file formats. I subsequently contacted dpMagic who asked me to forward a few problem images along with screenshots from Explorer when it crashed along with a screenshot of the Event Log. Here is the reply that I received from them this morning:
thanks you for the detailed information. We were able to reproduce the
problem. It is originated from the corrupted exif info in the jpeg image.
The next published version of the application will be resistable to such
kind of errors.

It would appear after all then that Lightroom is causing corruption of Exported JPG files. I have no way of knowing in which way the EXIF data is being corrupted, and whilst dpMagic say that the next version will be 'resistable' I would much prefer Adobe to see what is causing the corrupted EXIF data in the first place.
Could one of the mods kindly post a bug regarding this matter referring Adobe to this thread if necessary. It would be appreciated - thanks.

This can be done from Single User Mode. You're going to need a little nerve though since everything is command line based.
    1) Enter Single User Mode by restarting and holding down Command+S on the keyboard. A whole bunch of UNIX stuff will go by on the screen in white text on a black background. When it's done, the command prompt will be sitting at:
    :/root#
    2) Above that, you'll see that it tells you to enter two commands. Run this one first by typing it in and pressing enter:
    /sbin/fsck/ -fy
This does a system file check. A good thing to do in your case as it may be damaged. It could take a while. When it's done, you'll be back at the :/root# prompt.
    3) Enter the second command and press enter:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    4) Type the following at the prompt:
    cd /Users/name/Desktop
Where it says "name" above, the short name of your user account goes there. If you're not sure what it is, first type:
    cd /Users
    Then type:
    ls
That's a lower case L, not a one. It stands for "list". You'll get a listing of all files and folders in the Users folder. So if your short account name is diane, then the command will be:
    cd /Users/diane/Desktop
After entering that command, the prompt should read:
    :Desktop root#
    Type:
    rm *.jpg
Be very careful to type is exactly as shown. rm followed by a space, then *.jpg. Press enter and all files ending in .jpg will be deleted from the Desktop folder. With 450,000 of them, you could be waiting a while for the prompt to come back.
    Type:
    exit
and press enter to boot back into OS X.

  • Corrupt text from iPad export

So, I've emailed myself the PDF of the Keynote presentation I created on my iPad. I also used iWork.com. I also transferred it via iTunes.
The problem: All of them have several pages of corrupt text whether opening in Acrobat or Preview. All I get are dots for characters. Even worse, when opening in Google docs ALL text is invisible.
Does anyone have an explanation or workaround?

  • Extreme slow export and corrupted jpegs

    Hi guys,
having a big problem with my aperture 3 system. Exporting jpeg's from my RAW files (Canon 5D, 30D) takes hours, because Apertures starts during the export build/rebuild thumbnails from the exported pictures. Also some of the exported jpeg's are corrupt
    -> http://data.mactechnews.de/393412.png
The corrupted files are random. When a do a second export from the same RAW's other jpeg's look like corrupt.
All this happens equal to the selected export size for the jpeg's and adjustments on the RAW's.
I never had this issue in A2. After the update a deleted previews and thumbnails and let aperture rebuild the library (took about 24h). Then I switched from a managed to a referenced lib using the "relocate masters" command.
Automatically generation of previews was always switched of in my system. Faces and geo tagging is also switched off.
When I was exporting pictures in A2, Aperture did not also start to generate thumbnails. I also could avoid this now in A3 when I export a project as new lib and reimport this and relocate masters. After that, the export works well.
Anyone an idea what could be wrong? This situation is terrible for me, because exporting pics for customers takes hours, then I have to find the corrupted files and export them again. This I have to repeat until I have all pics correctly exported.
A3 is running on my MacBookPro late 2008 with 2.8ghz, 6gb memory, 512mb graphics. The aperture lib and the pics are on a external harddrive connected via firewire.
    Thanks for your help!!

I got in touch with Apple on this one and they suggested the following which seems to be working for me. This is a work around and the guy at Apple, who was very helpful, has escalated the problem to the engineers. I will post the results when I can..
1 - Click on the project you want to export.
2 - Go to Export, then click on "project as new library"(you can check the activity by going to "window - show activity" once at 100% go to 3)
    3 - Quit Aperture
    4 - Double-Click the exported Library
5 - Now export your files as you would normally do.
Hopefully this works for you, its frustrating but I think Apple are now on the case..

  • Exporting Jpegs from Lightroom - DPI question

When I export Jpegs from Lightroom, I set the dpi to 300 pixels per inch. I do not specify a max width or height. When I view these files in Adobe Bridge (CS2 or CS3) the file info says 300dpi. However, when I open the files in Photoshop and select image size, It says 72dpi and has the document size set to very large. I realize that I can enter 300 dpi and uncheck the resample box, I am just confused as to why this is happening.
My concern is, that I upload my images directly to my lab after exporting from Lightroom. Will this cause problems?
    Thanks in advance!
    David

the image resolution is a combination of the two parameters you mention: size and dpi. a very large size at 72 dpi is equivalent to a small size (like 3x5) at very high dpi. for printing you want at least 240 dpi at the largest size that allows you to keep that resolution. for screen presentations or your web site you want jut 72 dpi. 72 dpi and 2x3 inches will require a very small file size.
I suggest you to export images at TIFF and not JPEG as that will allow you to preserve the image quality when doing editing in PS.
In my case I export TIFF for PS (when I need PS editing) and 72 dpi JPEG for my web site (that way if somebody downloads my image illegally thy get a poor resolution copy). But since LR works very well for me 90% of the images re just kept in raw mode and I print from LR.

  • Export Antialiased JPEG from Acrobat Pro?

    Hi all:
I noticed today that when I open a PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 and save the page as a JPEG image, there is no ability to save the JPEG of the page with antialiasing. This seems odd and limits the usefulness of the command to me.
I have been in a few situations lately where I need to send someone a JPEG to use for web purposes, but I didn't have access to Illustrator to export an antialiased JPEG from the original art. I can't understand why you would want to export only aliased JPEGs of Acrobat PDF pages........anyone? Am I simply missing the option box during the Save command?...
    Thanks for reading -

I'm talking about saving a VECTOR file that is a PDF into an anti-aliased JPEG. Sometimes, you want to save a JPEG of a vector PDF file that you did not create and for which you do not have the original.
For example, to save an entire 200-page PDF of technical drawings which you find on the web as a series of numbered, antialiased JPEGs automatically, in order to place them in a PowerPoint show. That's not "easy enough" in a "graphics package."

  • How do I export 72ppi jpegs from InDesign without losing quality?

I need to export indesign files that I design to 72ppi for web without losing any quality (or as minimal as possible). Countless times I have tried different methods, but alwasy manage to create a workaround, whether it be good quality, or just readable text. ITs really the small text I have the problem with. I explain in the below video my problem in further detail. But basically, I have tried many things such as pasted from indesign to photoshop, exporting to 300ppi jpeg and resizing in photoshop, exporting to 72ppi jpeg and viewing (not good at all), exporting as PDF, opening in photoshop ticking anti alias and inputting my dimensions... how can I get this to work?? Someone please help.. I have battled this problem for to long and my boss is getting annoyed with it. We need to fix this.
Many people say to export to PDF and then open in photoshop and save as a jpeg from there.. but how can i export a PDF to 72ppi?? Please Adobe fix this issue in future editions of InDesign. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

You have it backwards. You export a PDF, and when you open it in Photoshop, that's when you pick the resolution. Any text in the PDF will likely be vector data, and it will be changed into bitmap data at the resolution you choose. I'll give you an example:
I placed a 300ppi image (5.7MB Photoshop tiff) into an InDesign page with three captions (12pt, 9pt and 6pt). I exported the page as two different PDFs. One was set to High Quality Print (a1) and the other to Smallest File Size (a2). A1 came in at 446KB and a2 came in at 37KB. When opened in Photoshop, I picked 72ppi as the resolution, flattened and saved as an RGB Jpeg without color profile and quality setting of 12.
The a1 jpeg was 180kb in size and a2 was 156kb, so not too far apart, considering the difference in file size between the PDF versions. If you open the jpegs in Photoshop, you will see that the size of the letter F at the beginning of the 12pt caption is nine pixels high in each, so if the problem you are having is that small text isn't readable, maybe the text is just too small to be readable at 72ppi.

  • Exporting JPEGs from InDesign CS4

I've exported jpegs from InDesign CS4 for years and each time I get an Export JPEG dialog box that gives me the option to adjust the resolution. Suddenly, when I export to JPEG, I get no dialog box and it automatically creates a JPEG at 300 dpi. I've looked everywhere in Preferences to see if I inadvertently changed settings, but I find nothing. Help?

  • Problem with exported jpegs from CS5 PSDs with transparent backgrounds

I've detected an issue where when exporting jpegs from a CS5 PSD layered file with a transparent background, the jpegs don't have a pure white background (255, 255, 255). They seem to range from 250, 250, 250 to 253, 253, 253.
LR3 with same export settings does not show this behavior--it's pure white: 255, 255, 255.

    Bill,
Another very helpful solution and I appreciate knowing how to fix it in both applications. Thanks!

  • Exporting just jpegs from slides

I have a 200+ slide powerpoint file which I opened in Keynote and I'd like to export just the images (not additional text) for use in Final Cut. Right now I'm taking the image from each individual slide into photoshop and exporting as jpeg from there. I've done 50 so far. Is there a faster way?

You should be able to grab the images directly from the Keynote "package". In the Finder, hold down the Control key and click on the Keynote document -- this will bring up a contextual menu. Choose the "Show Package Contents" item. An new Finder window will open up showing all the files that make up the Keynote document (which is actually a special folder called a "package" that looks like a single file to the Finder). The images should all be at the top level of this new Finder window.

  • Exporting to jpeg from Illsutrator 5

when I export jpeg from Illustrator 5,I lose resolution.  I am using winows 8 system. Any solution welcome.

You need to be much more specific about your settings, your document sizes, colors and so on. JPEG is a destructive compression, anyway, so there will always be some degradation, but with suitable settings it usualyl looks okay.

  • Controlling level of JPEG compression when exporting from iPhoto 6?

    Hi all,
I'm wondering whether one can adjust the level of JPEG compression when exporting images?
I'm still on iPhoto 4 that unfortunately doesn't offer this option and by default produces fairly large images that aren't well suited for web presentations.
I'd be happy to upgrade to iPhoto 6 for that feature alone.
    Cheers Martin

    HI Martin,
There is no compression option in the File>export window. You can however input size dimensions so a 2592x1944 can be exported to any 4x3 value such as 800x600

  • Some missing and corrupt IPTC metadata on export

As a Lightroom user I'm trying Aperture 3, I may be missing something or failing somewhere...
I've imported some RAW files which already have IPTC metadata, captions, copyright, keywords etc. On export the copyright field has corrupted, the symbol © becomes ¬© and a few fields are missing. I don't have a date, rights usage and the image is marked as unknown copyright status.
All of that data (except copyright status) appears in Aperture so I'd expect to see it in an exported JPEG. Everything appears as I expect when making a JPEG from Lightroom.
Thanks for any comments or advice.

As a matter of fact, it doesn't export costum filds at all.
By definition, custom fields are non-standard, and therefore aren't included in the exported file as they won't mean anything to other software. This has been the case since Aperture 1.0 and has absolutely nothing to do with other metadata problems.
Your website will likely be reading IPTC tags so if you want the information to be readable you'll have to find some appropriate IPTC tags to store the information in.

  • Corrupted jpegs/movs after recovery...

    Hello,
I've read other pots here about this situation, but I'm still stuck with corrupted files.
I used data rescue to recover deleted files from an old drive. Worked well and found a lot of good files (including many flawless jpegs). But the jpegs from an old iPhoto library are ALL corrupted (they're the right size though, so most of the data should still be there). And the videos (mov format) are also the right size but won't play on any viewer.
Any ideas on how I can fix those files?
    Thanks,
