Corrupted Motion projects in DVD Studio Pro

Hi.
I have just installed Final Cut Studio 2. I have opened a project I've been working on with previous version ( a DVD Studio Pro project with Motion files loaded ) and I have found that all my Motion projects appears with all the layers desplaced or just corrupted. Any solution to this? I still feel that Apple is treating us like "betatesters" instead of profesionals. Hope that some day I take something from them out of the box and it works as expected ( from the beggining, not many monthes later )...
Hugs
Antonio

Antonio:
Exporting the Motion project as animation will be easier and without quality loss. You can use that moie in DVDSP or to Compressor to encode to mpeg-2.

  • Importing Motion Project into DVD Studio Pro

I'm new to Motion and I'm using it to create an animated DVD menu. I have an overlay layer for the DVD highlights in my Motion project. Now, I understand that I'm importing my Motion project as an asset. How do I tell DVDSP to use that overlay layer or do I need to export the layer as something else and import it into DVDSP?

You need to export your overlay as a still image, then import that image into DVDSP, drag it onto the menu, and select set overlay. Make sure you turn off the visibility of the overlay back in your Motion project so it doesn't appear as part of the menu.

What "basic package" are you referring to? FCP is only available as part of Final Cut Studio, which includes ALL of the apps you mention ... unless, of course, you purchase a used copy of FCP alone.

  • Motion 4 to DVD Studio Pro = muddy mush

When I create a DVD menu, for example, in Motion 4 and import the motion file in to DVD Studio Pro 4 the resulting DVD is very poor resolution, especially text, being very muddy/mushy. I end up having to export m2v files from Motion and importing them instead and get far cleaner results.
I've checked the encoding options in both apps, and they are set high.
    Any suggestions why?
    Drew

I don't trust the DVDSP encoder. I never have. The best workflow in my opinion is to convert as much as possible in Compressor vs DVDSP.
However, there are settings in Motion that you can adjust to potentially producer better results.
Make sure rendering is set to best and that all FX are active like shadows, lighting, etc. if you use them in your project.
In your project properties (CMD+J) you can change your bit rate to 32-bit float for higher quality.

  • Trouble Importing Motion Projects into DVD Studio

I’m in the process of creating a Demo DVD and I was looking to use Motion to create menus and transitions in DVD Studio Pro. Every time I try to import a project I get an “Incompatible Format” error. My roommate’s iMac G5 imports Motion projects with no problems. I called Applecare to get help and was told Motion was bad and to reinstall it. I did and it didn’t work. (It was also suggested that my video card might not be good enough. Doesn’t make sense though because my roommate’s iMac does the trick.) I called back like I was told and was informed by another guy that I don’t have support available to me because the complimentary phone support expired last year. What is the world is wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m game for a complete hard drive wipe if it’ll fix the problem? My specs are below. Here are the specs of my roommate's computer:
    Processor: 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5
    RAM: 1.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X600 XT, 128 VRAM
    Software: Final Cut Studio Academic
    Please help me!!
    ~Thanks

One more thing, I tried opening up my project no DVDSP on my roommate's computer and it worked. His own project worked too. I brought the same files over to my computer (I opened the files both time off my thumbdrive, so they're the same files, not copies) and I got the same "Incompatable Format" error.
I also cannot import Motion projects into FCP either, but both my roommates can.

  • Motion 5 and DVD Studio Pro

I apologize if this question has already been answered somewhere else, but I am wondering if Motion 5 will work with DVD Studio Pro 4. I have been working with both programs for years (as a hobby) and have enjoyed increasing my skills in Motion. I do a couple big projects a year, so I definitely don't do this full-time, although I'm hoping to change that. Although I had the entire FCP suiite, I only really used Motion. My motion program was pretty out-of-date (I think it was 2.1, although it did what I needed it to do) and stopped working properly when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Before, I would just create my project in Motion, bring the motion document into DVDSP, add audio that I created in garage band, and burn to disk. I just bought Motion 5 and am learning a lot of new skills. However, when I imported a short Motion 5 document into DVDSP to see what happens, it just shows a purple still saying "Media Missing in Motion File." So, I guess there are 2 questions. Am I going to have to export my Motion files out as some sort of quicktime video to then be able to use in DVDSP (and what will that do to the quality)? Or am I going to have to get FCPX? And if I do get FCPX, I have read that the burn features are pretty limited. Any hopes that they're going to be updating DVDSP?

I just tried a Montion 5 (clip) in DVD Studio Pro 4 and it doesn't work. A Motion 4 (clip) worked just fine. You're going to have to export the Motion 5 clip as a Quicktime and import that into DVD Studio Pro 4.

  • Recording standard dvd from completed FCP project thru DVD STUDIO PRO...

    OH, kind geniuses...
it boils down to this...I'm very FCP friendly...production is done...I'm aware of "compressor" issue...one question tho
...is it easier to compress thru Quicktime movie or the
standard compressor functions when project is completed...
BOTTOM LINE...is it possible to crank out a standard DVD copy of a completed FCP project QUICKLY/ EASILY...thru
DVD STUDIO PRO? i've went thru the manuals for ALL, and am
affraid I'm reading T.M.I. into it... THE question..."is there a simple Wham-Bam-Thank You-Maam way to get a simple
DVD copy from a completed FCP project THRU, (the dreaded)
DVD STUDIO PRO??? I don't need to re-learn digital electronic theory...just crank out a gawl-dern DVD I can

  • Burning a Final cut Pro X Project with DVD Studio Pro

    Hi,
A project edited in Final Cut Pro X and Compressed with Compressor 4, can you then burn to disc with DVD Studio Pro?
I have DVD Studio Pro on my system but when I burn the project to disc using DVD Studio Pro it crashes all the time.
I'm wondering if DVD Studio Pro is not compatable with a 64 bit system?
    Advise is appreacated.

Thanks Tony that did it, I was using Burn but when I went to Build/Format the disc burned as it should, thanks

  • How can I burn an iMovie project in DVD Studio Pro?

I created a DVD in iMovie for a friend, then burned the disc with iDVD. When I play it on my home DVD player it looks and sounds fine - but when he plays it on his DVD player, it looks fine but the audio is poor and echoes a lot. I looked at his setup, and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS - however I have never used this program and need some help figuring it out.
Is it possible to take the project that I created in iMovie and burn it in DVD Studio Pro so that it would be compatible with a DTS setup? I would need very specific steps to doing this because I have never used DVD Studio Pro before.

and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS
iDVD creates DVDs with uncompressed audio (PCM). DVDSP (FCStudio) has no DTS conversion capabilites, just Dolby Digital (AC3).
I think that your friend DTS system must play stereo PCM too; you could check in its documentation.
What I do know is that DVDs with uncompressed audio (we are talking about computer created and burned ones in particular) can be difficult to play fine in some players because the high bitrate.
I'm not an iMovie expert but as far I remember you can export your movie from there as high quality video (you must get a QuickTime movie with same settings that your footage) and convert it to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio using Compressor, and finally importing those assets to DVDSP.
    I hope this help !

  • Open iDVD project in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi
    I need some help.
I have DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 which was part of Final Cut Studio (1?) and I want to open an iDVD (7.0.4) project, but it won't let me saying:
+DVD Studio Pro does not support projects created in iDVD 5 or later.+
I guess I have to upgrade DVD Studio Pro, but it won't let me as I have an early Final Cut Studio which is not eligible for upgrades.
    Any ideas for workarounds?
The reason I want to burn the DVD in DVD studio is to get a better quality result as the burn at the moment from iDVD is blocky in places. Or will it not make any difference?
    Thanks

yes I have it set to professional, but I think the problem is that the film is very nearly 2 hours long so it has to do a lot of compression to make it fit. I have re-encoded the project with iDVD to a dual layer DVD and that looks better but I really want to use single layer for cost and compatibility.
Would DVD studio pro do a better job or does it just use the same engine as DVD Studio Pro?

  • Export project with DVD Studio pro?

    Hello everybody:
I'm trying to export a whole project to reimport later in an empty one. If I export an item description for all menus, tracks etc, then I can restore the assets, but their links appears as empty. No matter if I import all the items at the same time, some of the link are lost.
Do you know how I can do this? Thanks in advance,
    Gumer

    Welcome to the Boards
There will be some relinking issues no matter which wway you go (in other words no real way to do it all), but if you reorder the import some links may work- for example if there is track 1,2 & 3 and you import thosse tracks then the menus the links from the menus to the tracks will work, though you will need to set end jumps for the tracks (note I have not tried this in recent versions of DVD SP, but it used to work that way.)

  • Sharing a dvd studio pro project

I have a co-worker that recently move to the United States. He works independent for the same company that I am working. We both use Final Cut Studio for our work and it is easy if we both have the same projects with the same raw video so he can do a part and I do other. Now we have complicated because he can't send any project from dvd studio pro so I can open and work with it. DVD Studio Pro is different from final cut pro that you can send the project through e-mail and if the person that try to open it has the same raw video in the same folders that you have it (THE PROJECT CAN BE OPENED) this does not work wit DVD Studio Pro.

    Welcome to the discussions.
It does work, but if you have any assets in DVDSP then the person receiving may have to re-link them when they open your file. I know it works because just about every example project I (and others) create is offered for download and you can open them and see how I have set things up. If they couldn't be opened then there would certainly be an issue in sending them around.
You need to make sure that the folder where you save the project file also contains the various folders of assets. If you do this, and save the project file from inside DVDSP to the correct place, then the links to the assets are saved as well and the project file will open without a fuss.
When sending DVDSP projects around the world it is also sensible to use 'dummy' assets and get the structure right using those before replacing them with full quality assets. I tend to use .pict images in tracks to represent footage, leave out the audio (unless it is small and important to the example) and send like that.

  • DVD Studio Pro creates a 4:3 out of a 16:9 Project

I have a 16:9 project that DVD Studio Pro (7.1.1) burns in 4:3 format.
This is a one hour video project.
The original footage was shot in 16:9.
I created the project in FCP (16:9 anomorphic).
I exported to Quicktime in 16:9.
The menu I chose in DVD Studio Pro is in 16:9.
When I begin the encoding the menu is created in 16:9, but the actual project then becomes 4:3.
I have also tried to encode this project with iDVD and get the same results.
    Please help,
    tia

in your preferences, did you set this as a 16:9 project?
If you click on the disc icon in the outline view and look in the property inspector, is it set to 16:9 there?
Do you have ALL of the items (tracks and menus) set to 16:9?
