Corrupted Pics

I searched posts regarding my problem and found some tips, unfortunately none worked, so hopefully you guys can help me out.....
A few months ago I installed iLife on my Powebook G4 and now many of my pics won't open ("Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.") iPhoto has roughly double the amount of pics i had in it before I installed iLife, however most of them are blank. It takes forever to load and i get the spinning beachball anytime I as much as move the mouse. The pictures don't open up in Preview either. I tried repairing disk permissions and running Cocktail. I also tried creating a new library in iPhoto and also copying them to another computer. No luck. and no, i dont have a back-up of them.
Any help is much appreciated.

You can try to use Image Capture to download the photos to a folder on the Desktop. If it stalls on a photo you can try to narrow it down to which one buy downloading in small batches.

Server 2012 is corrupting Pics and Music files

I originally thought that my external raid tower was the culprit and after transferring brand new files to an internal hard drive I thought everything was good to go. Last night I was trying to set up my pictures server folder but I already had a
folder named Pictures in the location. I moved that folder inside of a temp folder on the same drive then created the Server Folder Pictures. Then I moved all of the picture files to the new pictures server folder. When I opened them atleast
4 out of 5 were corrupt with color banding acrossthe entire picture. Anythoughts to what could be causing the corruption? It seems they get corrupt when you try to move them within the server.

What hardware configuration do you have on the server?
Are you using storage spaces?

Retrieving corrupted pic. files from ipod

Hi,
I recently formatted my hardrive and stored all my photos on my 30g video ipod. The photo were then accidently deleted off my ipod. I then downloaded a software that retrieved the files off my ipod. The software is called "Data Doctor Recovery". When I recovered all my photos I could not open any of them. My computer told me that there was "no preview". The photos were all the right sizes though. Could anyone tell me how I could get these photos back?

Do you have anything else connected to your computer, such as an external harddrive, Printer (especially one with flash drive slots), etc? If you do, disconnect them.

Make sure to use a rear USB port when you connect.

How to retrieve "corrupt" files?

I have Iphoto 5.0.4 and it had been working fine ever since we got our powerbook in 2003. Two rolls ago, I imported some vacation pics of my kids, then went through them and deleted those that I didn't like.
A week later, I wanted to look at them again and found "grey boxes" instead of pics thumbnails. Iphoto freezes everytime I try to open them, the colorful wheel keeps on spinning for a while.
I tried to Iphoto library folder to open them but a box comes up and says that's it's corrupted or not recogniazable format. It also shows on the description that it's 0kb but when I open iphoto and manage to click on the pic/grey box and it shows the regular file size.
Can anybody help me fix, or recover those pics as they're great memories or our family vacation? I would really appreciate it. BTW, I tried rebuilding the library but it didn't work. Please help me.

I am hoping Larry can help me. I am new to the discussions but now am worried after reading this that I could have done something really wrong. I have been having trouble with my importing lately. After 28,000 photos, this is a first. When they download they seem to lose bits of the shot and have greyed out or transparent areas in them. I am getting the recovered photos folders, and have deleted from iphoto the corrupt pics, then i have gone into my library as well and deleted them there. Is that the wrong thing to do? The reason I did was when I tried to download them again (they are fine on my camera) they won't download because iphoto thinks they are already there. So I deleted them and downloaded again today and now different ones are corrupting during the download. So I tried a different camera thinking it was maybe my camera and now I am realizing it is iphoto or my mac. What is the problem? I am on iphoto 8 on a powerbook G4 with an external gdrive for pics. The gdrive is at 122MB out of 160 total. I did read that you mention to download them using a USB memory card adapter. Will this fix the problem? Help?

Cant download pics or movies from iphone to pc

Iphone doesnt show as an attached device in my computor, nor does scanner/camera see it either.
just purchase iphone and have taken several meaningful pics of granddaughter thinking it would be as easy to download the iphone as it was with my blackberry or samsung smartphone.
i am not very apple literate, however my ipod and i are "in sync"..

I had this same problem. I did a lot of research to figure it out. I was told by apple it was an windows OS problem but it wasnt. Unfortunately you will have to delete all the pics on your Phone, restart your phone. Take a picture with your phone and then plug it back in to your PC. Windows should recognize the camera as a drive in the my computer screen. I figured out it has to do with a corrupt pic on your phone. there might be an easier way, but i know this works. good luck, i know this drove me crazy!

IPhoto 5 SUPER SLOW!

I have 10,000 pictures in iPhoto 5 on my Powerbook 12, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB hd with 30 GB free space, and it takes 10 minutes to open iPhoto, and it takes 10-15 minutes to go back to iPhoto after waking up from sleep. Quitting takes same amount of time. During this time, I can not even use other applications -- response time is so bad. I did try rebuilding the library and it does not seem to make a difference. I experienced the same kind of behavior on Powerbook 17 1.33 with 1.5 GB of RAM, 80 GB HD. Same photo library.
Is there a problem with some of the photos? Corrupted pics? Or iPhoto really can't handle large libraries?
Hard drive thrashes during these time.
Google Picasa is looking better and better... if only they made it for Mac.

FaceBook buddy icons not showing

I launched Adium whilst you were iChatting me.
I could not find a item in any menu to Re-send (Or even send the first time) any Authorisation Request in any of the Menus (including doing a Right Click) after highlighting a Jabber Buddy.
I did try the Notification item to my Off line (indicated) children's IDs but this only seemed to start a chat with them (even though they were Off line and Unauthorised in iChat)
Psi I do klnow has a Re-authorisation item.
As I explained in the Text Chat I do not use Facebook.
I believe the other regular Poster, Defcom, may well do and he may be able to add more on his experiences on this.
However as you say this may well be more of a Facebook server issue, although iChatAgent will tend to load cached Pics before getting them updated from the Server (It's one of iChatAgents jobs)
Adium also keeps a cache of Buddy Pics (Your Home Folder/Library/Caches/Adium) separate from iChat's one
It may pay to check the Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.apple.ichat/Pictures folder and see if it has any corrupt pics.

IPad reboots when scrolling the saved photos

I have the same issue as other users when u get close to the bottom of the saved pics eg screen dumps from safari etc it reboots iPad every time not good enough apple fix this issue asap. Works fine with other folders with 1000's of saved pics just not on saved pics where screen dumps go. Happened recently then when photos deleted ok. But when added more again did it again. Don't say it's a corrupt pic as iPhone never does it
Fix it asap paid a lot for a iPad with this type of issue?

Uninstalling Watsapp seems to have corrupted my pics! Cant view pics on media Card...

OK, so watsapp went mental, despite doing several battery pulls it remained crazy. So, of course, the next step would be to delete and reinstall. So I deleted the app. I now find that I cannot open all the pictures on my media card :/ It takes ages to index and though the pics are definately there (file manager showing % of memory card free) I cant get to them. I cant pick up from the PC either - blackberry link isnt picking up anything on my card OR device...(however it HAS taken off 16 random pics and put into a folder in my documents; which incidentally, I cant seem to restore to my z10).
Now I know what you're thinking; memory card has somehow been corrupted right? Well...No because I can view ALL my videos, music and 352 pictures (about 510 are inaccessible). I know it cant be the card as the pictures i can see are a complete mix match of dates from 2009 to present but all randomly mixed up :/
I have re-installed watsapp and all convos have backed up...
I have the latest softwarre so its not that. I can access everything on the card from PC but cant get them over into the link :/ WHY did BB have to make it like it has? (If it aint broke dont fix it!) The software was ace, you could just drag and drop. There is no 'restore' option or anything on my BB link.
I am going to do the obvious - battery pull again. If no joy then rebook with no sim. Still no joy Reboot with no media card. I dont know what else to do.
If I format the card will I lose all the pictures on it? I cant backup to the link either - there is no option :/

Just to clarify, you are not able to view the contents of the media card on your PC as well? (Not through BlackBerry Desktop Software but through My Computer).
I would suggest formatting the SD card, however formatting the SD card will erase all data. So I would attempt to back it up if possible.

IPhoto won't import corrupts existing pics

On May 1st, iPhoto would not import all the pics taken that day from my SD card. It saw the card, saw the 100 images and began the import, even showing previews as they came in. But only two ended up in the "last import" folder. Further, several exisiting images (some a couple of years old) have been corrupted, with their dates changed being changed to the 1st of May 2012.
I tried to restore my iPhoto library with TimeMachine. That didn't work. My MacBook thought it had 200GB (of 500) of backups. I erased old iPhone backups and the iPhoto library (copying it to to another hard drive first). The TimeMachine restore then got to 182GB of the 188GB library before I got a "ran out of space unepexectedly mesage."
How can I go on?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Digi pics corrupting upon download

a few weeks ago (end of Oct) i upgraded to 10.4 and then in the last few days i upgraded to 10.4.3. i haven't downloaded digi pics from my compact flash card since i upgraded. tonight i tried and all of them were corrupted. they were fine on the CF card. i normally download digi pics directly to iphoto using a SanDisk ImageMate reader (which takes both CF and Memory Stick slots).
so i tried a couple of different things. i tried my other, smaller CF card. same thing. then i tried skipping iphoto and saving the file directly to my desktop. same thing.
i'd like to know ***? these are pics of my 1-yr-old, i don't appreciate my computer eating them.
is there a firmware update i need?
is there a chance of recovering the pics? the thumbnail view in the 'get info' screen for the file has the whole pic, but when i try to open it in preview all i see is the very top edge.

I hate to hear you are having trouble with installing facebook to your device. You can remove the app from your device and do a soft reset but removing the battery. Once powered back on, dial *228 press send and select option 1 to re-program. If this does not resolve the issue, a hard reset would be recommended. Once the hard reset has been performed you can then go through the process of adding the facebook application.
From the home screen, select Applications.
Select Settings.
Select Privacy.
Select Factory data reset.
Select Reset phone.
If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
Select Erase everything.

AVI files corrupted(blocking pic & dropped audio). Any fix available?

I just transfered a lot of AVI files to my external to save some space. They were all perfect before. Now, if I play them from the external HDD or on my internal HDD, they are all corrupt. Every one of them. The picture is all blocky and the audio keeps dropping. I have transfered them to a Windows machine, and they are still corrupt. BTW, I am using the most recent VLC.
Is there any way to restore these files? How do I avoid this in the future? I really don't understand how they became corrupt.

Turns out, the FW800 firmware in my enclosure needed to be updated. Fixed!

Quick time flags each *.PIC file I try to open as corrupted. Talking about a large number of files.

I have a number of 1.44MB disks with pictures. Quick time signals that all are corrupted. Hard to believe. Any suggestions? XP Pro (up to date). All software is up to date.

Use the on board viewer program to export the images as bitmap or jpg and work with that.

thnks Barbera I believe that's the problem ...every time I try to import the new pics I put in my iPhoto to my elements organizer
after it goes through all the pics to be impotred to the organizer ,it leaves me that message I stated earlier about a corupted file..I'm going to try what you told me about the repairing process and go from there ...I'll be in touch to let you know If that fix the problem....thx again....
