Corrupted Pictures in Adobe Lightroom

Hi,
Recently my imported pictures in Lightroom have been corrupted one they have fully loaded. It does not happen to them all but increasingly up to 50% of an import is damaged. The images have the appearance of a partly devloped slide film (if anyone rembers that medium) one half or more of the picture is visible the other half is multi coloured lines, mostly pink, purple. I have tried uploading Lightroom 5.6 but this make no diffeence. Lightroom 5.5 has been running fine until a few weeks ago when this problem developed.
Has anyone else had this issue and what is the fix please?!
Mark

Hey Rikk,
For an unrelated matter, I took my iMac into Apple Genius Bar last week, and had a full diagnostic ran on it to check for any damaged hardware.
It came back completely clean and in good order. So that appears to rule out hardware issues.
I took some photos on a different, brand new, camera (Fuji X100s) with a brand new SD card, and have encountered a similar, although not as drastic, scenario, with some sort of digital corruption of the image (see screenshot attached).

  • Importing picture material from Adobe Lightroom

    Dear iBook Author Community,
I am creating quite some photo and textual content materila and intend to start my own series of iBooks just now. In order to enhance user experience for my travle photo collections, I intend to import my photo material to iBooks Author directly fromout Adobe Lightroom. Does anybody out there have an answer on how this might work?
Thank you very much in advance,

Not all dng-formats are compatible with Aperture. If you cannot import the dng, use the software that came with your camera. Afaik, the Leica Vlux-4 digital camera comes with Lightroom. You could develope the raw with LIghtroom to tiff and import the tiff to Aperture, until Apple - hopefully - will provide raw support for the Leica Vlux-4.

  • Adobe Lightroom starts as soon as E90 connects

    Hello!
I am connecting a E90 via bluetooth to a vista ultimate t61p Lenovo laptop. Whenever the phone connects to the PC, Adobe Lightroom launches ... which is pretty annoying.
I have tried to reset all autorun actions in the windows standard device settings - without success. I have also searched the registry for "lightroom.exe" to see if there is any connection with nokia, or the phonename or bluetooth.
    both without success unfortunately.
Any other tricks I could try? Not sure if it's a windows problem, a lightroom problem or a pc suite problem anyway...

Delete the picture it is trying to open, it's corrupt. I had this happen about 1.2 or 1.3.
Delete from your hard drive, then relaunch LR and open your catalogue. I simply overwrote the whole folder with my backup files.

P.S. I just reread your post. How full are those partitions? If LR is trying to write to a disk that is too full a file can become corrupted. Also look at how fragmented the drives are.Partitions that size are not very optimal for photo editing nor is having three on one drive. I would suggest you invest in another drive and move all your photo files to the new drive and possibly store the LR catalogue there as well.

  • Adobe Lightroom 4 - Some Questions / Help Needed

    Hi everyone.
After advice from several experts, I've just purchased Adobe Lightroom 4. I've already got Photoshop CS5, but I was looking for something proper to organise my photos, plus I found Lightroom easier to do the sort of editing I am wanting to do. Now, I only really use photoshop for things like colour pops, or really in-depth editing. Anyway, I'm loving Lightroom so far, but there is some stuff I'm not very sure of, so I'd appreciate some help
    1. Organising
Firstly, I'm not really sure how to organise. At the moment, I've just got lots of folders with random events in My Pictures on W7, so I might have a folder called April 11, which contains photos from that month but that might have been a wedding or an easter holiday or both. So it doesn't really work. \
I understand in Lightroom what catalogs are. But I know enough to know that I don't want to group mine into those, its getting too complicated. What I don't know though is the difference between a collection and a folder. Basically, I'm wanting to reimport and reorganise all my photos, so I want to put them into "events" as such like you can do on iPhoto on a mac, so I would have "France Summer Holiday 11" for example, or "Mia's Wedding". I'm not really sure on the best way to do this ...?
    2. Editing
I've played around quite a bit so far, and I really like what I've seen. On a lot of photos, I've made a lot of changes. But from what I can see, these changes are stored merely in Lightroom itself. For example, at the moment I'm importing photos from my external disk into Lightroom, which then saves them in C://My Pictures/Lightroom/Pictures . When I go look at these photos in windows explorer which I know I have edited, it doesn't show any of the changes or editing I've done on them. Now I realise this is me being stupid, but why doesn't it? Supposing I then want to email that photo to a friend that I have edited? How would I do that? I don't want to have to open lightroom and export every single photo I edit? There must be a simpler way?
Likewise for backing up, because all my files are in subfolders within C:// My pictures / Lightroom / Pictures, to back up I was simply going to set up windows to copy that latter folder onto my external HDD everytime I plugged it in. This would be pointless however if it isn't physically overwriting the original photo with my edited version?
    3. Editing 2
Something else I like to do is make lots of different edits to the same photo. For example, at the moment I'm editing a photo of a pier at night. I spent ages adjusting colours and lighting and so on, and now it looks great. But I would also like to save a copy of that photo with the "old age photo" effect preset on. Is this possible? and how do I do it? Other than obviously importing a duplicate?
    4. & 5. & 6 - Misc:
    4. Simple question - how do I add tags, keywords or comments if I haven't done it on import?
    5. My camera doesn't have built in GPS. Is it possible for me to manually geotag photos (in a batch, say for a Summer Holiday to NY), could I manually add a geotag for all these photos?
    6. I also forgot to add copyright information on import for some, is it possible to do this after import and how?
    7. I normally shoot in JPEG. I probably shoot shoot in RAW as everyone tells me to do so. Are there any significant advantages in terms of quality, and for editing with?
Thanks for any help given. I appreciate this is a lot of questions, but I could really use the advice.

    Hi William,
    1. Organising
Firstly, I'm not really sure how to organise. I am not so sure if you understand *catalogs*.
You need a catalog, exactly 1 in my opinion. A catalog is a database. The Lightroom database, where records about your images are stored, including the pointers to your images, which are not inside a catalog! LR backups just does the backup of the catalog (i.e. a file ending .lrcat). You need to take care separately that your real images are backed up !
Inside your LR database the best way to organize is via collections - this will give you what you want with "France summer holiday 11" etc.
Folders are relatively unimportant, just storage buckets. They should be *handy portions*, I would prefer them with below 3000 images each, as there currently some bugs to those bigger ones.
Before you start with LR, you can organize your pictures in Mac Finder / WindowsExplorer.
Or you could do it with the help of LR, by copying your images over during import into the destination folders (and deleting today's folders afterwards after having verified that everything is fine).
A simple date-based structure will do, I'd recommend  a root parent folder like "LR images", underneath one folder per year (\2010\, \2011\, \2012\...) and underneath them either
just one folder per month (LR can auto-create them for you)
or you create the folders in import dialog as e.g. "YYYY-MM-DD description of shoot", to have a mini-diary overview also in your OS.
Apart from that you create collections, either *dumb ones*, where you drag images into, or smart ones, where you specify criteria according to which they get auto-filled.
    2. Editing
I've played around quite a bit so far, and I really like what I've seen. On a lot of photos, I've made a lot of changes. LR will never overwrite your original photos.
You can save most of the catalog content into the xmp-part of the original photo, which is either a sidecar-file (.xmp) or part of the file format, like for DNG, TIFF, PSD, JPG. To do so you select the image in LR and hit <ctrl> s. Or you set it up for continuous update, which creates a lot of operations while you play back and forth in develop.
I do that on my own, typically twice per file: once I am done with develop, once I am done with keywording and other metadata update.
LR contains records about your images, i.e. a set of instructions how they are to be interpreted. That is all.
So of course you need LR to export the result of these instructions, which is actually pretty quick.
To backup your images you need to do that just once, plus you backup your LR catalog. Or if you save xmp to the files, you can do another backup once xmp is ready.
I would not consider this pointless. You just have to think that there are 2 places with data for your images: the images themselves and a database with interpretation instructions.
Yes, this is one of LR's beauties: you create a so-called *virtual copy*, which is just a 2nd record for the same original image file with different interpretation settings, like black-and-white, a different crop size, different development etc. You can have as many virtual copies as you like, and you'll see them as additional thumbnails.
Virtual copies are not saveable into xmp, though. There is another concept which is saveable into xmp: snapshots. but these are different states in develop history, and you do not see outside develop module that you have several.
If you export virtual copies e.g. to jpg one file per virutal copy will be created.
    4. & 5. & 6 - Misc:
    4. Simple question - how do I add tags, keywords or comments if I haven't done it on import?

Thanks for any help given. I appreciate this is a lot of questions, but I could really use the advice.
ad 4: you use the library module, metadata panel to enter.
ad 5: you use the map module. Either you manually drop your images on a map, or you have a separate GPS track to load and have LR assign via matching time-stamps.
    ad 6: like 4
ad 7: You don't need JPG from your camera, you can achieve better results viy LR from RAW. Yes, there are significant advantages as to editing headroom.
Overall, may I suggest my favorite learning material for LR? First watch Julieanne's Tutorial Videos.
Then go play and use Victoria Bampton's eBook or paper copy of her "Missing FAQs to LR4": http://www.lightroomqueen.com/books/adobe-lightroom-4-missing-faq/
    Have fun,

  • Blocking bug with 10.8.3+Adobe Lightroom+Canon iPF5000 (but workaround found)

    Hi all,
since I have updated my MacBook Pro (early 2011 model) with 10.8.3, I have a blocking bug with Adobe Lightroom (either 4.3 or 4.4) for launching prints on my Canon iPF5000 (firmware 1.33, either MacOS driver 2.67 or 3.06, connection through USB).
When I was under 10.8.2 with the Canon's driver 3.06, everything works fine.
Basically, after clicking Print a Copy or Print... in Lightroom, the file spooled to the driver stays in MacOS printer queue. Within the printer queue window, the printer is in pause mode, and each time I try to resume the printing processing, the driver put it on hold immediately. When I look into the history on the Console, the driver complains about an unknown error... The data stay within the driver, as my Canon iPF5000 "Data" led indicator stays unlit.
My print settings are 600dpi or 300dpi, print sharpening Standard/Glossy, 16 bit output. And Color managed by printer (because I let the Canon driver managing my B&W prints).
Strangely enough, when I launch a print from Preview application, the drivers does its job and sends it successfully to my Canon iPF5000...
As this was driving me crazy, I have tried a clean install of MacOS 10.8.3 (as 10.8.2 is no more available from Apple servers...). No success, same blocking issue.
Eventually, I've found the workaround: using the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview. You have to click on "Print..." in Lightroom in order to see the driver settings window, and then check the "Preview before printing" option in the main tab of the driver settings. Then I can preview my Lightroom printing work and then launch successfully my printing.
Simple workaround, but very strange bug...
For me, the root cause could be multiple and not very obvious.
Is it Mac OS 10.8.3 ? But why can I make prints from Preview application for instance, and not from LR ?
Is it the Canon driver ? But this lead me to the same question.
Is it Lightroom ? Does it send corrupted data that make the driver crazy but not the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview ?
So, if any user of Canon iPF5000 + Mac OS 10.8 + Lightroom is around, please share your experience.
And if any Apple, Adobe or Canon engineer read this, please try to fix this.
    Happy printing,
    Amaury

It's different how applications write print data. If you use Advanced Preview from the driver then it calculates already the output which afterwards is only sent to the printer.
Have you once tried to print with fast graphic process switched off (option of advanced settings)?
    Hope it helps
    Renate

  • Installed Adobe Lightroom 2.5

I just installed Adobe Lightroom 2.5, It has created a lrcat in my picture folder on my C:Drive, I really do not want it there, can I move it to my external drive?, I have not added any pictures yet.Can someone please help me,thanks.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that you'd be far better off either using the default setup i.e. leaving the lrcat file on drive C or creating another catalogue file (lrcat) on drive D - assuming you have a twin drive setup which most PC's have. With this setup Lightroom (and your PC) are going to work both faster and more efficiently as Lightroom won't be having to access an external catalogue on the EHD. By all means place your images on the EHD and possibly consider placing your backup lrcat file on this also. Yes, backup the catalogue file regularly.
This is my preferred setup: Drive C (250GB) contains the OS and applications etc. Drive D (also 250GB) holds my day-to-day non photographic related data files plus various Lightroom plug-ins in addition to Lightroom catalogue file (lrcat). Two EHD's (500GB) hold my images with one of them holding the last three backup copies of the catalogue file. Finally, both these EHD's are further backed up to another EHD (2TB).
This setup up works just fine for me as a keen and productive amateur but of course a professional photographer might have a different setup dependent upon needs.

I've just installed creative cloud 64 bit windows.  How can I make bridge the default program to upload pictures rather than lightroom?

Usually the default program associated with an image file extension is an image developing Program like Lightroom or an image editing program like Photoshop. If you want to change the default associated program to Adobe Bridge you would use Window's Controls Panel file association applet.

  • Corrupt RAW files in Lightroom 5.

I'm having an issue with corrupt RAW files in Lightroom 5. I have all of my RAW files stored on an external NAS system. Typically, I mainly work on my files on my PC's hard drive. The NAS is for storage only. However, in the past I have looked through the external files with Adobe Camera RAW and have called up files from there to work on, if it's a photo I want to rework. Recently I have started using Lightroom 5. So the other day, I added a folder from the NAS external to Lightroom 5 to look at some of the RAW files. A LOT of the files looked corrupt with white blocks and pink or yellow lines running across the photo. I closed lightroom and pulled up those same files in Adobe RAW and get the same issue. I copied them to my PC's hard drive and still have the issue. This has never happened until using Lightroom. I know Lightroom is not supposed to actually do anything to the files, however, this is very coincidental. Did Lightroom do something to these images, or was it coincidence that the files became corrupt at the same time I started using Lightroom? Any solutions?

I am wondering about the drive. I know that it is not the CF card and it wasn't a reader for the following reasons. I download directly from the camera to the PC without a reader. I downloaded these last July and worked on them on and off for several weeks without issue. I have also pulled up the occasional file from this same batch a couple times this winter without issue. It was only when I pulled them up yesterday in Lightroom that this problem occurred.

  • No Picture Previews in Lightroom 3?

Hi there I have just installed Lightroom 3 - on PC laptop - and imported some images from the Picture Folder on the OS drive
Everything seems to be fine except (and its a major except) there are absolutely no thumbnails or previews of these pictures appearing in Lightroom to work on. I have tried this with a few different file formats - can anyone help? Thanks very much. Steve Mepsted

Using:  LR3 (just upgraded) Had the grey boxes but now IT WORKS and Thanks a million eveyone (a very special thanks to Steve for the detail instructions - my default was also the sRGB Virtual Device model profile )...I have been fighting with this issue for a couple of months.  In fact it was the original reason I did not download any additional updates to the LR2 version I had and reverted to the original verison as purchased.  I thought going to LR3 would solve the problem.  When I first upgraded to LR3 I could see all my pictures....but then I downloaded an udpate and my pictures were not viewable (only the grey boxes as others have referred to).  I was not willing to go back to LR2 having just bought LR3 so I called Adobe Tech support.  The Adobe tech that took control of my computer (a very friendly young fellow) was apparently headed in the right direction but he never solved the problem.  I watched what he was doing (via remote control) on my screen and recall that at one point he was doing something with color profiles.  I don't fully understand color profiles so I could not keep up with what he was doing. After about 90 minutes he told me it was a Microsoft problem...I told him that did not make sense since I had already seen the pictures in Lightroom after I first upgraded and it was only after getting the udpate that the pictures were no longer available.  I thanked him and went back to looking at grey boxes. After diddling with it and doing someting (I have no idea what!) I was able to view the pictures a couple of times but after each startup the grey boxes were back.  It has been very frsutrating until now.  Based on the great input from you guys I am assuming that somehow my computer was jumping between color profiles which is why I was able to see the pictures on some startups but not on others.  What I have to focus on now is why the color profile was shifting since I never went into that areas (would not have known what to do).  So...while my issue is resolved for now...I may still have a problem (shifting color profile) but at least I know where to focus.  By the way...I am not knocking Adobe or the Tech who tried to help me through remote control of my computer - - -somehow although he was onto the right solution it was not working. At any rate...I am one happy camper right now since I can now access my son's engagement pictures through LR.  Thanks again.  BTW...to Steve...on my machince there is a save screen that comes up when I "Click on ADD".  I just closed it and then was able to click the Device tab.

  • CS4 Web Premium Installation "Installer Database Corrupt.  Contact Adobe Customer Service."

    I need help.
I just purchased a HP Envy 23 running Windows 8.  It came with Adobe Premiere and Elements 11 already installed.
I own Lightroom 3, which I installed very quickly and easily.
I own CS4 Web Premium with the serial number at hand.  I insert the disk 1 to install and the error message appears: "Installer Database Corrupt. Contact Adobe Customer Service."  After serveral attempts, I resort to researching on this forum.
In the forum, found here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1238032 I was asked to go the linked website and download and specifically follow the instructions to install CS4 from the internet.  I did what I was told as closely as possible.
I received the same error message: "Installer Database Corrupt."
I asked if I needed to uninstall Elements 11 before trying to install CS4 but haven't received a response.  Actually, now Adobe won't let me sign on with my password and when I request for a new one it doesn't send me a confirmation email so I have resorted to making a new username.
I called Adobe about the issue with the error and was directed back here to the forum because they do not have phone service support for CS2, CS3, CS4, or CS5 because it is "old" technology.  I am loosing lots of work time because I can't seem to get a quick response to my questions here on the forum.
I found another forum saying that I need to rename the file "caps.db." to "xcaps.db" and it will install just fine.  I did what it said, looking for any and every folder in both premiere and elements to rename anything that began with "caps"  After doing so, I still got the error message.
What I need to know is:
    1. How can I install CS4 Web Premium either by disk or internet without getting an error.
    2. Must I totally uninstall Elements and Premiere to get CS4 installed?  I really don't want to do that since I paid for them with the purchase of my computer.
I'd really like some answers.  Thanks.

You're going to need to be more specific about what I am supposed to do because I'm very unfamiliar with computer lingo.  I don't know what an OEM is and I am unsure about these backup disks you are referring to.  The expertise on this forum is the only lifeline I have to fixing this Adobe issue so I really want to try my best here to get things resolved.  I've not heard of deleting caps.db and haven't heard of anything to do with medai.db files before.  I'm supposed to delete these instead of renaming caps?

  • Adobe Lightroom disk image error

    Hi.
    I have a MacBook Pro Early 2011.
    Running 10.9.4
The issues i have is i cannot install Adobe Lightroom 5.6
When clicking the DMG file it goes so far extracting then stops with an error - Image Data Corrupted
I have been into disk utilities and verified the DMG
I have tried turning off the verify checksum function in disk utilities.
That allows it to extract further start the install but then stops with another error stating contact the software manufacturer.
I HAVE used successfully the same DMG file on my iMac.
It extracts perfectly and installs with no issues.
    Confused and stumped.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Have a look at this thread: Re: Installation
Basically you will have to download 5.4 to get the MSI then extract and point the uninstall to the extracted MSI file for 5.4
You can download your version from here: Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows

  • Spotlight loses Adobe Lightroom library

    Hi!
For some reason Spotlight loses Adobe Ligthroom library from its index from time to time
Spotlight searching for "Lightroom 4 Catalog" returns the backup libraries and a "ghost" item for the lost library.
Screenshots showing the difference with backup library and the "lost" library:

I can usually temporarily fix the index by re-importin the library using
    mdimport -d 2 /Users/Lassi/Pictures/Lightroom
But the problem reappears. I've also re-indexed Spotlight nad repaired my drive in OS X Recovery. Nothing helps fof long.
I bumped into this when I started using Everpix photosyncing service. It uses Spotlight to find photos it syncs into its cloud service.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello.
The problem is that the iPhoto library is inside of iPhoto. Lightroom won't let you select it because it's basically a shortcut to iPhoto. Try exporting the images you need or all of them, depending on what you need.
