Corrupted Pictures? (SCREENSHOTS)

Ever since I restored my system to a backup from Time Machine, I've been having nothing put issues with my Mac. One of which is this one with iPhoto.
I've somehow seemed to have lost some simi-important pictures from my iPhoto library. I don't even use iPhoto that much as I haven't had much time to really organize anything.
Anyways, A week or so ago, I downloaded at least a dozen some pictures. Today, I went to add to that album with some more pictures, and noticed that a lot the older pictures are not coming up anymore.
Also please see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjlhv_epJt4
I followed the directions of "rebuilding the cache" and all that did was REMOVE the pictures - but as you can see (in the video) the pictures do seem to be there, but they won't open, and I can't located the originals.
Also because I had to erase and re-do my backup becuase of the stupid time machine restore, I now lost any "older" backups that might have contained those pictures. Also, I ran recovery software on the SD card from my camera and I did back 2 of 3 of them, but there is still at least 20 that seem to have been permanently lost.
Any ideas???
Thanks,
Scott

Thanks, I gave that a try but....

I have a bunch of pictures that are incomplete from previous backups. Pretty unfortunate i lost 6 years of pictures... but some remained intact some didnt. Is there an option to search and delete corrupted pictures directly from iphoto? Or am i going to have to select every single corrupted ones from my 20000 pictures to delete them one by one.... Thank you for your help !!!

What is corrept about them?  Can they be copied to the Desktop?  If not try rebuilding the library with  iPhoto Library Manager which, if it can't copy those corrupted files, should leave them out of the new library.
Your current library will be left untouched for further fixing in case the iPLM method fails.

  • Corrupted Pictures in Adobe Lightroom

    Hi,
Recently my imported pictures in Lightroom have been corrupted one they have fully loaded. It does not happen to them all but increasingly up to 50% of an import is damaged. The images have the appearance of a partly devloped slide film (if anyone rembers that medium) one half or more of the picture is visible the other half is multi coloured lines, mostly pink, purple. I have tried uploading Lightroom 5.6 but this make no diffeence. Lightroom 5.5 has been running fine until a few weeks ago when this problem developed.
Has anyone else had this issue and what is the fix please?!
    Mark

    Hey Rikk,
For an unrelated matter, I took my iMac into Apple Genius Bar last week, and had a full diagnostic ran on it to check for any damaged hardware.
It came back completely clean and in good order. So that appears to rule out hardware issues.
I took some photos on a different, brand new, camera (Fuji X100s) with a brand new SD card, and have encountered a similar, although not as drastic, scenario, with some sort of digital corruption of the image (see screenshot attached).

  • Corrupted Picture Files

    May, 27, 2013
    Hi ArnettH_VZW
I had very good service from my phone when I first got it with the old 2.2 OS but it has been down hill since then.
I had used my phone to take so many very good Pictures and Videos that I had come to the point that there was no need to carry my Cannon any more. I have an HTC Rezound. It is wonderful hardware but cell service is like a Chain, it is only as good as the weakest link.
I went to Lubbock, Texas to my Uncles 90th birthday and 65th wedding anniversary yesterday. I took pictures and videos that can not be replaced. There were people there from California, Oklahoma, Texas and Main. My videos and some of the pictures are corrupted and will never be recovered. I have had trouble with my phone every since Verizon began to send updates and the last one was the worst. You require us to sign a two year contract and hand us a phone that is only good for one year. I know that you are the top selling provider and I was with you for over 20years ending in 2005 with few years on another carrier while we were in an area that you did not service taking care of my Mother until she passed. I went with Sprint for five years and returned to you one year and two months ago. Verizon has grown so large that they make a lot of hipe about service but do not deliver. I have only 10 months and I will be history. I will also never sign another contract and suggest that all of us cell users do the same. If we refuse to sign contracts, we can get service back. The smaller carriers care more about me.
Many people may not realize that you could turn their phones without a contract if the phone uses the same radio frequencies but you will not in order to get another two year contract. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
    Sincerely
    Ronny

        Hey there RonnyClark.
The HTC Rezound is a great phone.  My favorite feature is the HTC Beats Audio speakers.  The music quality is incredible.
Happy 90th birthday to your uncle and congratulations to him and his wife for the 65 years of marriage.  I'm sorry that there was an issue with the camera, that did not allow you to take pictures.  While I cannot do much to bring those pictures back, we can complete troubleshooting to make sure an issue like this does not occur again.
One thing to keep in mind is that we don't manufacture the phones, we provide the service that these phone works on.  The phones are manufactured by companies such as Motorola, HTC, Apple, Samsung etc.
The phone's that are produced are of high quality and we don't atticipate any of them having any issues, but as with all technology, hiccups occur.  That's why there is the manufactures warranty and we also offer additional insurance to make sure that you have a fully functional phone at all times.
I truly would be saddened to leave.  Please let us know what we can do to retain your services.

  • IPhoto book displaying corrupt pictures

I successfully ordered a number of calendars iLife 08. Image quality was great ... no complaints. HOWEVER, when I received my first hardcover book, I was surprised to see 8 photos displaying what appeared to be corrupt files.
Subsequently, with the help of Apple Photo Services, I have tried to determine what the problem may be with the photos or if the problem lies with IPhoto! I examined every photo, tried inserting them in various programs, ran some through PhotoShop and all appears well. I followed the following instructions from Apple:
Our engineers suggest the following troubleshooting steps. I hope
this will help resolve this issue and allow you to resubmit your
    order:
    1. Close iPhoto and use Software Update to install the latest
version of iPhoto and Mac OS. For more information on using
Software Update, see the article entitled
    “Updating your software” at
    docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh292.html
    2. Once the installation is complete, launch iPhoto.
    3. Select your book from the Source list on the left.
    4. Select Print from the File menu.
    5. Click the Preview button on the bottom left. This will create a
PDF of your book and display it using the Preview application.
If the PDF no longer shows corrupt images, you may resubmit your
book order by clicking the Buy Book button.
If the PDF still shows missing images, follow these steps:
    1. Return to iPhoto and go to Page 25.
    2. Press and hold the Control key while clicking on the appropriate
image. This should display a contextual menu.
    3. From the contextual menu, select Edit Photo.
If you can see the photo after selecting Edit Photo, but the PDF
preview still does not display this image, please let us know by
replying to this email and we will investigate further.
If you cannot see the photo after selecting Edit Photo, or you get
a gray square with an “!” in the middle, then the original photo is
damaged or cannot be found. If you have a backup copy of the image
file, you can copy it back onto your computer and import it again
into your iPhoto book. If you do not have a backup copy of your
missing image, you may wish to replace the missing images with
other images prior to resubmitting your book.
Be sure to preview the PDF of your book (step 5 in the
“troubleshooting” section above) before resubmitting your order.
We hope this information helps. Thank you for being an Apple Print
Products customer. We appreciate your business.
To date,I have created saved 8 PDF's of the book file and each one shows different corrupt files while at the same time while in iPhoto, all the photos appear okay.
About to give up and either go back to an earlier iPhoto or just go to an alternate vendor.
Any help, suggestions or insight is appreciated. Is iPhoto 7. 1.1 really that buggy?
    Bob

    Robert:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may have a corrupt database file. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. This will rebuild the thumbnails as well as the database file. While you're at it you might as well select the option to repair permissions. See if that makes any difference.
Report back and we'll go from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Corrupted Picture Files - has anyone found a fix?

I have this problem and it's pretty severe. I also don't know what else has been corrupted on the phone (video, music, other docs?) Several photos have been corrupted some time after I had uploaded them. I have a good copy on my computer, but the images on the phone are now definitely corrupted.
    Hey, Verizon, this is serious!!!

    Verizon -
    That is a lousy solution!
I've been dealing with this same issue since the last software update!  I have this problem nearly EVERYDAY.  The only solution is to reboot my phone.  I've lost capturing many beautiful moments because of this issue.  I can never rely on my phone camera.  I always have to do a "test" photo before I'm planning to take some pictures just to make sure it will work, though that is not always reliable.
I highly doubt this issue is unique to each of our phones.  It IS a result of the last software update and many customers have experienced the same issues just after the update.
I'm very disappointed Verizon hasn't looked into this further.  It makes me question the customer service and whether I should renew my plan at the end of the year.  I know I'm definitely moving to an iphone as my friends who have one speak very highly of them.  I know VERY FEW people who have a Droid and are happy with it....must be a reason.
I'm planning to contact Verizon shortly to look into replacing my Droid for the 5th TIME!

  • Corrupt pictures

I just burned a disk of picutes from iPhoto 5.0.4, it burned just fine, but when I put the disk back in the computer to see the photos, there weren't any photos on the disk, just empty white frames. Also when I bring up some of my older albums from last summer there arn't any pictures, just empty white frames which eventually fill up with the photos, but if I try and do anything with the photos, like move them to another album or drag them to the desktop the pop up says that it is corrupt and can't read the picture. Other pictures in the album are ok. At one point I had tried to install the iMac, so I could use the mail system, etc. Got frustrated, so stopped it and it seems since that time that the photos that were in iPhoto at the time are the ones that are affected. All the photos that I have downloaded after that are fine. Is there anyway to get the older photos back? Thanks for any help. Wendy

    try the following codes
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Problems new when bought?, corrupt pictures and videos, transfered music, not receiving calls

    Hi,
as U can see I have some troubles with my phone and the sellers(Tele2) support says it's just dandy and fine. I've always had problem with receiving calls but ppl I asked refered to problems with the service but finally had enough and turned it in.
Also found out after a vacation that the phone randomly got the photos and videos corrupted (receive the message on my computer: corrupted file) One video in particular while recording a Dolphinshow ~24 minutes the video works fine the frist 40 secs with brilliant sound and picture but then I get a distorted still pictiure and the sound is a loop of the earlier sound and the time is ticking on until at its end.
I manually import music to my SD-card (Sandisk 64Gb SDxG) and it's both Mp3 and FLAC, now some random songs has a "staccato" quality to them as at some parts the songs fastforward at times.
After having problems upgrading the surf I had a look at my settings and there found out that the User(owner) of my phone is an entirely other phonenumber leading to a voicemail on another company(Telenor) so have some questions about that as I bought a new? telephone.
As I still have problems receiving calls and SMS, don't turn up until I randomly restarts the phone which I shouldn't have to do every day? Ther solution was to turn off 4G and only use 3G for a while, is that the way to solve the problem, to handicap my phone? very curious about that or if they are stalling for my warranty to expire?
To clarify, my arguments are against Tele2 but wanted to check with you if U got any thoughts about my problems as I really can't trust them as I don't find them acting, hmm well don't know what to say.
    Looking forward to some answers
    Yours!

  • Corrupt picture prevents opening of iPhoto...

I believe I uploaded a corrupt file (picture) into iPhoto, and now it is unable to open. When I click on the icon to open iPhoto, it will say, "Loading pictures", and before I see anything else, the application has unexpectedly quit. Is there any way to open this program so I can get rid of that corrupt file that believe is causing this? Thank you.

    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    3. If the above don’t help: Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Corrupted pictures sharing the same filename

    Hi there,
Just found out that some pictures I have in my iPhoto library don't have a thumbnail and do not show up when I double click them. Instead, a big grey question mark is showing up.
After some research, I found out that only a small number of pictures in my library is affected, and this is certenely due to these files having a duplacate equivalent sharing the same filename, but being a different picture.
Does anyone know how do I solve this ?
    Thanks !

The question mark is more usually a permissions issue.
iPhoto is well used to dealing with many, many files with the same name, and cameras frequently work that way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Library permissions.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Playbook 32G - Picture app corrupting picture files or Flash Memory bad ?

I have a Playbook 32G loaded with lots of pictures, mostly ~ 1 Meg each.   The pictures displayed correctly for a while and then the picture started to appear blurred as if only partially loaded.   I have over 5000 pictures in multiple folders.  Once the files started to display blurry image, they stayed that way even when I closed the application and even re-boot (cold restart) the playbook.
I finally reloaded all the pictures after a security wipe, and it is doing this again.   Any idea whether this is a bug in the pictures app or a defect in the unit.   I am about the call support but I don't have the unit with me so I don't have the serial number.
Any suggestions on what I can check.   E.g. any filesystem check app ? diagnostic app that I can run on the flash memory.
    p.s.  running the latest OS2.

@Sinious: Hi, thanx for your opinion, but even if you think that i'm total idiot - i DON'T run anything except Flash itself at onec! I'm not absolutly stupid :-). And i even mention it in my first post - "I have opened only my Flash app ..." So - it's not that case. About 300dpi images - they arn't so big as you expected, they have something abou 1200px width, maximall 5 MB in size. The exported .swf file have something about 25MB, so it's not sooo big and i think that Flash can handle this. So - i don't run anything exept flash and my images arn't so big as you expected. Now what? And you thing 16GB of RAM is nothing? Well - maybe for som 3D modeling programs and video editing, but for Flash? I don't agree with you. I'm able to work with flash on my personal computer just with 4GB of RAM. And my pagefile means nothing? Then why, when i use that "trick" by allowing "App can handle > 2gb adress space" help me out? Why i suddenly can finish my project with all my 300dpi photos and more than 15 scenes with product presentation? And viruses and malware - of course i have toolf for handle them - again, i'm not compleat idiot :-). And in the end - i even have just couple of weeks clean installation of my system. Next problem is that you only speaking about my memory issue, but you forgot all my other problems. If there was only "you have low memory" problem and nothing will cras, i wasn't so mad about it. So - thanx for your opinion, but you are in most cases wrong.
@gerubach: thanx - i did it before, of course, that was first thing, but it didn't help. What hepled was that process wich i describe in my 3th post. Really - i haven't memory problem sinc then. As you say, we can't do much about it, exept using some freeware alternative. I don't want to give them propagation here, but ther are some very interesting out there. One of them even seems really cool, but i found it too late :-) Will try it next time. If you want to know about it, send me PM.

  • How can i delete a corrupted picture/movie?

On my iPhone I have since quite a while a movie with 0 sec that is only shows with the dotted frame you usally get in iPhoto with photos that are not linked anymore. If I import photos from my iPhone to my mac I always get the message, that "movieABC" could not be imported because the file is unknown. But I cannot delete the file. I can activate it but cannot delete it. Any clue?

  • Corrupt pictures but thumbnails good

I can see all the thumbnails but when I try to use them I get a black screen with exclamation point.  I have paid a tech to fix this less than 6 mo ago.  He did restore all my pics, thank goodness!  I was told then that I had a trojan ???  Even though I did ask I never figured out how to fix it myself.  I guess I have to go back to the tech and start all over again.  I had planned to upgrade to a new Mac but not sure now.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)

  • HT201361 Is it possible to save the screenshot files to a different folder than desktop. How can I change the folder?

Is it possible to save the screenshot files to a different folder than desktop (that is the default). How can I change the destination folder? Thank you, Sal

To change the screenshot capture location to a new place on your Mac, first think of a location that would serve you properly. We like to place ours in a "Screenshot" folder located inside of the User's "Pictures" folder. To change the location to this new location, open the Terminal and enter the following command:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/[u]/Pictures/Screenshots/
Replace "[u]" with the name of the user on your system. Once you have entered this command, let's restart the screen capture utility by restarting the SystemUIServer by entering the following command:
    killall SystemUIServer
You can optionally log out and back in instead of entering this second command, thus restarting the SystemUIServer. Once restarted, all screen captures taken from here on out will end up in your /Pictures/Screenshots/ folder in the User's home folder on your Mac.

  • Automator screenshot errors in lion

I'm not sure if this is a bug or some difference in behaviour in automator, but i'm having trouble working with the 'take screenshot' action.  essentially, before upgrading to lion, i had a number of automator workflows that would take a screenshot of a window, then rename the file with the date, and move it to a specific folder (used mostly for my own reference for online payments and purchases).  as of the upgrade to lion, the automator workflow errors out after taking the screenshot (see image) with an error "conversion from image files to files/folders failed - 1 error" with a sub-heading "-[_NSArrayM descriptorType]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x401e12840".  the problem seems to be in the 'take screenshot' action, as i can't get it to pass anything to any other action. i've searched all over for a solution and i've got nothing, i'd really love some help with this.  thanks.

I had exactly the same problem with Lion 10.7.3, always a ""-[_NSArrayM descriptorType]: unrecognized selector" error when trying to pass the screenshot's filename to a rename workflow...
But! I found a solution by using "run shell script" which will run the "screencapture" command from the Terminal.app
If you open "Terminal.app" from /Applications/Utilities/ and type:
    man screencapture
you will get the manual of the screencapture command.
    Here we go:
    1. Add a "Run Shell script", Use "Shell: /bin/bash" is fine and add the following line:
    screencapture ~/Pictures/screenshot.png
We just need to do this once: since the screenshot.png was not created yet for the next workflow command (Get Specified Finder Items", just run the Automator action so that it will create the screenshot.png in your Pictures folder.
You could even choose a .png file and rename it to screenshot.png and put it in your Pictures folder.
Note the "tilde" ~ before /Pictures...this is UNIX: so it's nothing else as writing: /Users/<yourUserName>/Pictures
    2. After we have run the command to create the screenshot.png, we add "Get Specified Finder Items":
click on the "Add..." button: select then the "screenshot.png"  file in your Pictures folder.
    3. Now add "Date or Time" etc. and modify as you wish or skip directly to 4:
    4. Add New Mail Message
    5. Send Outgoing Messages
    Voilà that's it!
    Hope this helps
