Corrupted quicktime components?

since the lastest upgrade of FCP 6 several things have happened.
Flip4mac Pro HD no longer works on any AVI file.
I cannot digitize video from my camera via firewire.
Exporting my edited movies from FCP results in one still or freeze frame.
Do i need to delete Quicktime and all components and reinstall?
Do i need to delete and reinstall FCP 6 ( studio 2 )
any help would be appreciated.

Your profile says you are using Mac OS X 10.4.7.
I believe you need at least Mac OS X 10.4.11 to run the latest version of FCS2. 10.4.11 is a free update.
Let me check this first, I have the installer for the last FCS updates somewhere. The minimum OS requirements did not apply to me as I use 10.5.6.
Update: If Giangi says you need 10.4.11, then that's pretty much confirmed...

  • AE CC 2014 can't find Quicktime Components after latest FCX upgrade

    Hi there,
I am in a pretty big trouble. After installing AE CC 2014 (plus premiere, media encoder and so on) everything was just fine and worked flawlessly. Then I upgraded FCX and its new ProRes codecs and now none of the above mentioned softwares seem to work, reporting that there are no quicktime components installed in my system.
Actually the quicktime components are there since I can play save and export quicktime mov.s with FCX, quicktime, MpegStreamclip and so on as I used to do before the upgrade. Only Adobe CCs 2014 don't work.
I then donwloaded the components straight from Apple support site, reinstalled them but it didn't work; I disinstalled and reinstalled Adobe CC softwares and nope... neither this way it worked.
    Can you guys help me?
It would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers

The recent update to FCP X does, in fact, add a new Pro Res format, called Pro Res 4444 XQ.  It is (apparently) the highest clarity Prores codec released to date, aimed squarely at high end broadcast and cinema professionals.  Arri has announced that their new Alexa cameras will all support the new format.
    The press release says:
ProRes 4444 XQ has a higher target data rate of 500Mbps that makes it the ideal choice for post production that requires visual effects processing or extreme colour grading.
“ProRes 4444 XQ is a fantastic choice for high-end mastering and archiving,” added Henning Rädlein, Arri’s head of Digital Workflow Solutions. “ProRes 4444 XQ offers 12-bit RGB encoding with a low compression ratio of 1:4.5 that maintains the superior tonal range of Log C, while providing the speed, ease of use and familiarity of ProRes.
You can just install the codecs from this update:
    ProApps Codecs v1.0.5
But they are automatically installed with the latest updates to FCPX, Compressor and Motion.  As far as I can see, the new codec is only available in Compressor X - I can't seem to access it through any other software, including After Effects, Media Encoder or legacy Apple software.
That said, I have the updates installed on the machine I'm using and don't seem to have any other Quicktime issues, other than no access to the new ProRes format.  Sorry I can't offer more help.

  • Corrupted Quicktime Program

I currently have a corrupted version of Quicktime that will not allow me to uninstall(something about a file missing). It will not allow me to install my itunes/quicktime program for my ipod. How can I get rid of the corrupted quicktime program?

The uninstaller for QT 6 is unvise32qt located somewhere in C:\windows\system 32. If it is missing the add\remove programs control panel will not remove QT. Then you would have to remove it manually and then go into the registry to remove QT from the add\remove control panel.
Somewhere on the web I read that there is some spyware or virus or something of the sort that is masquerading itself as unvise32qt. So when a anti spyware program is used to scan a computer it picks up on it, and quarintines or removes or whatever it does. Thinking it is the spyware rather than the QT uninstaller, therefore the trouble uninstalling QT.
You could also try windows installer cleanup utility, to see if it may help.

  • Some webcam drivers (Quicktime Components) no longer work in Snow Leopard

I have two webcams, both of which worked before the update to Snow Leopard, both of which no longer work.
They are recognised by their own utility applications and I can see the video, but the QuickTime components used to transport this video to other programs eg Skype, simply do not work.
Does anyone know why this is? Is there anything that can be done about it?
Is it something about QuickTime that got removed or changed in the update? Can this be rectified? Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
    The webcams in question are:
Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000, previously working via a Sonix driver for the chipset it uses, that was modified to recognise the product ID of the device. Partially working with Macam.
Creative PD1000, previously working with the Macam component.
Macam works, just not the QuickTime component.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Have you updated Skype to the snow leopard compatible version?
Yes. Nothing to do with Skype, although latest version of Skype has huge problems on it's own anyway.
Many plug-ins need to be updated, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had a codec involved that might need updating as well...
Well that does seem to be the case, although I can't see webcam manufacturers updating their legacy products' drivers just for SL.
Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
You don't? Do you know about the 64-bit capabilities that are now part of Snow Leopard?
Uh, yes, but surely 32-bit plugins still work? System Preferences does just fine with 32-bit preference panes.. surely they wouldn't just yank out support for hundreds of old webcams without saying anything?
I'd really like to get Apple's official take on what's going on here. in the Macam forums, soo many people are reporting broken webcams under Snow Leopard.

  • Missing Quicktime Components in iMovie 11

So recently my iMovie had been acting up and crashing on my user so I decided to log out, switch users, and access one of my family member's empty iMovies on my mac book. However, when I tried to open it, a message came up saying that iMovie couldn't open unless I deleted some 3ivx stuff or something like that. So I decided to delete that stuff along with old video conversion apps I had once downloaded but never used again.
Somewhere within that deleting spree I must have deleted something that created a problem with iMovie.
Everytime I open iMovie on any user, the notorious "Missing Quicktime Components" message comes up.
When I click "OK" iMovie opens normally. And at first I thought nothing was wrong. But then I noticed I can't export movies, import things from my cameras, change the lengths of titles, and change the speed of my clips...
I have been searching everywhere and have tried almost everything to fix it.
I deleted the iMovie cache stuff and plist, updated my computer, deleted iMovie and reinstalled it via the app store, with no luck.
A lot of people suggest reinstalling through the start up discs but here's the thing:
    1. My laptop is 4 years old. I have no idea where those discs are at this point.
    2. My macbook was brand new in 2009, came with iLife 09. I purchased iMovie 11 through the app store, without a disc, so I basically have iMovie 11 and iPhoto 09 and Garageband 09. If I found my start up discs, wouldn't it just reinstall iMovie 09? I really don't want to buy the whole iLife 11 disk package, especially since I've heard it hasn't even fixed the problem for some people.
    Please help.
    I have a MacBook Pro from 2009
    Running on Mountain Lion 10.8.5
iMovie 11 version 9.0.9 (says my computer is incompatible to update to the newest purple icon version... not that i really want to it has terrible reviews!)
    Thanks!

Alright so I solved my own problem after hours and hours of google searches.
What worked was I reinstalled Mountain Lion on my laptop
I found the cause of the problem as well, if anyone out there is curious if they have the same issue.
What happened was, iMovie told me to delete some third party video conversion stuff and when I deleted that I also accidentally deleted those super important Quicktime codecs.
You can check if you have the same problem as me by opening Finder. Click "Go" in the top bar, "Computer" in the drop down list. Select "Macintosh HD" from the Finder window, click on the folder labeled "Library", then click on the folder labeled "Quicktime". Inside the Quicktime folder you should see these two little icons labeled "AppleIntermediateCodec.component" and "AppleMPEG2Codec.component"
If you do not have these iMovie can't function properly.
First, check your trash! If you accidentally deleted it, those are what you're looking for to take out.
If you were dumb like me and emptied your trash, just reninstall Mountain Lion. The codec components of Quicktime come with Mountain Lion so they're not something you can download from the internet or pay for. Reinstalling takes FOREVER but it works.
    To reinstall Mountain Lion:
-Restart your computer, while it's on the gray start up screen hold the buttons "Command" and the letter "R"
-A gray screen and box should open up, simply click the Reinstall button and after a couple hours your problem will be fixed!
Reinstalling DOES NOT delete any of your stuff!
    (Unless something goes wrong)
    I really hope this helps!

The application will launch and I can create and edit projects and comps but I am unable to render any type of movie files. I can render images sequences.

  • Corrupted quicktime video during backup

When I tried copying over a quicktime video from one hard drive to another, I noticed that it cause major issues with the videos image and audio. Completely scrambling the video and creating a loud buzzing sound when the video played.
Here is a still frame of the corrupted quicktime video.
Fortunately the original video file was fine so I just copied the file over and it was okay the second time, but does anyone know causes this to occur? How do you prevent this from occurring in the future. What is it called when this happens?

  • "Quicktime Components not found..."

I have an Intel MacBook Pro, and since the storage space is mostly taken up by applications, I store my movies on an external harddrive. I can open these movies in iMovie HD, but I can't apply any effects or export them, and when I try to export I get a message saying that the Quicktime components cannot be found. However, I do not have these problems when I work with a project stored on my laptop's hard drive, and my current project is too large to store/export on my laptop. Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

I've read many of the posts in the iMovie forums, and couldn't find any that talked about both external drive issues and missing QuickTime components. The ones that talked about components were HD projects missing the Apple Intermediate Codec, but I don't see why that would change if the files were on an external drive. The External drive issue threads all talk about the formatting of the drive.
So, how long is the video, is it HD, and is your external drive formatted to MacOSExtended? If it fails on short SD content on a drive that is formatted correctly anyway, I would head over to the right iMovie forum and mention all that in your first post, because if you didn't you would have to wade through lots of initial advice telling you to reformat the drive!

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
iMovie does not, AFAIK, use QT 10.

  • I cannot import to iMovie due to missing quicktime components

    please help

acctually I don't think that screen shot worked did it.
Photo, image, and other graphic applications are normally managed by specific applications which may or may not keep iMovie updated regarding changes in the physical location of content. The basic rule here is to manage the content in the managing application and not muck about in the Finder making changes thet neither the managing app nor iMovie know about. The same holds true for removing/relocating iMovie Event and Procject content at the Finder level since path information will be broken/lost to the iMovie app.
It's whenever I start to launch iMovie I just get a pop up "the quicktime components necessary to view, edit, import and export sevral kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install." I have deleted and reinstalled and tried a remedy from another question like this on the forum.
What did you delete? Some of the codec components are installed by iMovie itself. Others are installed by the Operating System. Still others are installed by "Pro" video editing apps if installed. Then there is the question of which version of iMovie we are talking about here. Old versions of iMovie could access third-party codec components to physically convert files during the import process. This open codec configuration essentially came to a halt with the release of iMovie '07. Since that time the files must either be edit compatible with iMovie to allow import at the file level or be located on a camcorder or similar device and be converted or made all I-Frame edit compatible during the import process from the device. Sinec you are either unwilling or unable to tell us how you are trying to import the content or tell us what specific kind of content you are trying to import, we cannot tell you where to check to see if the required codec components are located.
At this point the only recommendation I can make would be for you to pull out your system installation/reinstallation software, reinstall your OS and additional apps normally used on your platform. and update the reinstalled OS & apps as may be needed. Without additional information from you regarding what you removed, how you removed it, what you are trying to import and how, this is about the only way to ensure a viable solution to your current problems. Anything else would be pure guesswork on my part.

  • How to fix a corrupt QuickTime file?

    Hey all,
Today I recorded all of our church services via iMovie (one long 4 hour clip), as I have been doing for more than a month now. However, the guy running the camera turned the camera off before I told iMovie to stop importing, so iMovie literally trashed the file.
I pulled the 50GB file out of the trash, but now QuickTime is giving me an error: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." When I open the file in MPEG Streamclip, It says "File open error: unrecognized file type", and I click "Open Anyway". It tries to open it, but sfter 20 minutes, I get the error: "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks".
Any idea how to fix this file? (That is, outside of paying $150 for this service: http://simplemoviex.com/movierepair/repair.html .) It is not mission critical to have this file, but there was a baptism this morning that I would like to have...

    Hi Janke,
If you have Time Machine or another backup system that keeps multiple versions, you may be able to work our way back to a version that does not demonstrate the corruption.

  • DivX upgrade corrupted quicktime AVI playing ability

I recently upgraded my DivX player and converter, after doing this my Quicktime player stopped playing AVI files. which is probably a good 85% of my videos and movies which i cant get to reformat to Mp4, MPEG or any of the other formats that it will play. Anyone have this happen before or have an idea of how to fix. and yes i have already tried to uninstall all the DivX components and it didn't resolve the issue at all.

and yes i have already tried to uninstall all the DivX components and it didn't resolve the issue at all.
Was QT 7 closed while you did this? QT 7 initializes the codec list each time the player is opened. So if the player was open while you uninstalled the codecs, the the changes would not be recognized.
Anyone have this happen before or have an idea of how to fix.
If you have the Perian package installed and had no previous codec conflict problems with the older DivX component, you might also try removing and reinstalling the Perian package. Some users have reported that DivX and Perian codec components may conflict with one another when installed in one relative order but not another. I.e., it appears the order in which codec components are initialized may or may not create problems.

Have you tried using the free HandBrake utility to convert your AVI files to MPEG-4/MPEG-4 AVC in MP4 and/or M4V file containers?

  • Corrupted Quicktime files

recently our company purchased a new Intel dual quad with 4 GB ram. We are running Leopard. We have a Kona LHE Card and an AJA Break Out Box for Analog. Right away we found problems were happening but the weirdest problem we have is that everything we do with Quicktime results in corrupted files. Just a basic drag and drop from another hard drive, will result %80 of the time in a file that eitehr wont play or will play but have the pink digital static midway through for a few seconds. When we bring a completely clean Quicktime into FCP, most of the time it will then have digital corruption on one frame or another. When we go back to the original QT file it is clean. If we take a perfectly Clean QT file and try to save as or Export, we will recieve a corrupted or distorted QT File in return. Basically every time we touch a QT file something gets corrupted.

I don't know how to fix what was already modified, but in Premiere Preferences, there is a box that is checked by default, something about "Write XMP data" or similar, you'll want to uncheck that.
