Corrupted Thumbnails in Project

I'm making my first slideshow in iMovie '09 using only still photographs from iPhoto. Had a few difficulties along the way, but pretty much had it finished. Opened the project this morning and suddenly all of the thumbnails are either showing the wrong picture or if vertical are stretched. If I play the project it still appears to be okay, but I still need to make some adjustments and can't with the thumbnails like this. Not as important, but noticed that at the same time, the ends of all the music tracks seem to have been arbitrarily chopped off/trimmed. I had a slightly older version of this project saved, but when I open it, it has the same problem, so it seems to be something affecting the source files. Anyone have any ideas or seen this before? I'm desperate to find a solution, because it will take me ages to remake it and even if I do, I no longer have the confidence that it won't happen again. All my software is the latest. One last thing, I found some suggestions to delete the thumbnail files in the iMovie folder. I did this and reopened iMovie and now the thumbnails are blank, but I can't find anyway of recreating them? Thanks, David.

Hubert,
The size of the thumbs will be dependent on your monitor's rez. Here, we get into a situation like found on too many Web sites. If one's monitor is set to higher-rez, the images can be quite small.
As has been suggested, you might use two monitors, with one's rez set lower. I did this for quite awhile in Photoshop, to see some of the "fine print." Now, with 2 - 21" CRTs (same as in older versions of Adobe), but with a major upgrade in my vid card, I run them both at the same rez (1280x1024, though the card and monitors will go beyond that), and with new reading glasses [Grin], I can see everything nicely.
In your feature req., suggest one, or two, larger sizes, above what APP now allows. I have no idea what that would take, from a programming standpoint, but with higher-rez cards/monitors, I'm sure that the bigger thumbs will come into play more often.

  • Lightroom 3.3 Corrupt Thumbnail Previews

I have just noticed a problem that I have not encountered until I upgraded to 3.3.  After I export my images as jpegs, the thumbnail previews are not complete for a few of the files.  I get about two corrupt thumbnails in Windows Explorer out of 100 exported images.  Here is a screenshot showing what they look like.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1426292/Capture.JPG
The images are fine when I open the files, but the previews are not complete.  I would like to fix it so my clients don't get "broken" thumbnail views.  Has anyone else seen this problem?  Suggestions are welcomed.  Thanks.

LR 3.3 and PS 4 ext. The original was a camera phone jpeg.
No, I have only VERY rarely had this happen.  I don't use this workflow. I was trouble shooting an issue for someone that is having a problem. I was quite surprised to see it happen. The computer is an i7 running Vista 64.
Your fix would require ALL previews to be rebuilt. I have a catalog of over 80,000 images. I don't see that as a reasonable fix. If it was a problem, I'd rather try deleting image from catalog and then sync the folder again and see if that fixed it. No need to trash a bunch of good previews for one bad apple. : ) especially since it's just a test jpeg image. I suspect a read/write time with image size and such playing a role.

  • Corrupted thumbnails??

I use Lightroom 2 to import photos onto my Mac Pro (Snow Leopard OS), then move to Adobe Bridge (most current version) to browse and choose which to open into Photoshop CS4. On a recent shoot, about 5 to 10% of the images (taken on three different compact flash cards) from my Canon 5D Mark II had corrupted thumbnails in Bridge. They either showed no image, just the CR2 RAW logo, or the image showed with a significant portion of it blocked by random colored vertical and horizontal lines. The photos all were fine in Lightroom. I closed Bridge, threw away the cache, and reopened and all was well.
My question is what is going on? Getting rid of my cache is a pain, because I have to wait many minutes for many files to reappear in Bridge. Is there a way to prevent this from happening again? Could it have been related to the fact that I imported 700 or so very large files (RAW files from a 21 megapixel camera are 25 to 30 MB each)? Thanks!!

    I closed
Bridge, threw away the cache, and reopened and all was well.
You first could have used the option to Purge cache for folder using the
Tools/cache menu instead of deleting the whole cache folder.

If you only use LR to import your files why not use Bridge for this?, You
can add several options for it in Adobe Photo Downloader that is in Bridge
(get photo's from camera). Explore the advanced option window.

It might have been a corrupt folder but it might have also been something
else. I tried using LR for import files (include to convert as DNG as I'm
used to for all my Raw files) but have no problems with viewing them in
Bridge. Personally I prefer the renaming options in the Photo Downloader but
    that's my opinion )

I really doubt that, (I have the same files, did not try this amount but do
work with this amount, and more in Bridge without this problems) unless you
did something in between with removing card from reader in an incorrect way
or closed one of the apps during caching but still can't imagine that to be
the cause, or if you copied the files manual to an other location, etc. etc.
Nevertheless you might consider to refresh the preferences for Bridge (hold
down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences)

  • How to control  the size of thumbnails in project assets

When i am looking at the thumbnails for project assets, how can i change their size from small to large

I do not believe that there is a way to change the size of the thumbnail display view in PrE 11. If so, I have not been able to find it.
    Good luck,

  • Thumbnails in Project Window

I have a Konica Minolta 7D. When I import RAW photos from my camera initially the full-sized photos appear in the Project. The second time I open the Project, however, thumbnails are displayed in the Project Screen along with the full-size versions. If I delete the thumbnails then, upon opening the Project again, the full-sized images are unable to load in the Viewer. (They are displayed in the Viewer but the "loading..." sign is perpetually shown.) I am then unable to export or email those images.
Any ideas as to what causes this problem? Otherwise I love Aperture and its features.

Ditto for me. Imported directly from my Minolta A1, RAW. I think, the thumbnails appeared as separate images in the project view immediately after I deleted a light table. But I'm not sure what really triggered it. Deleting such a thumbnail would render the full-sized image useless. After deleting re-importing the images: Same thing.
Them again I deleted the images. And, from within the Finder, I copied the images from the camera to the hard-drive via USB. In Aperture, I imported these from the hard-drive (instead from the camera). Since then I could not reproduce the thumbnail bug.
The mere fact of importing via USB from the camera versus importing from the hard-drive seems to make the difference. Never had a problem importing to iPhoto via USB.

  • Thumbnails in project panel

    Hello,
The thumbnails in the list view of the project panel are so small that I need a magnifying glass to see the picture.
In the setup I have already selected the large icon.
To see something, this thumbnail has to be minimum twice the size of the large icon.
How can I change this thumbnail to a larger size than this small "large icon" ?
I turned the thumbnail viewer of due to the same reason. It occupies space on the screen and you do not see anything on it because it is so small.

  • Has anyone seen changing map ids corrupting an HTML project?

I am working in RoboHelp8, and generating .chm help files to be attached to my company's software application. I built a map id file from numbers the programmer gave me. His calls have been able to use my generated files, but the "HH_HELP_CONTEXT called without a [MAP] section error message shows up when using context-sensitive help links.
    What I've done so far:
I took a project from my backup server to replace the project that keeps giving me the map id error message (attached) when I hook it to the application.
    1. I made some minor text changes to the file and generated, hooked it to the application, it ran ok.
    2. I backed up the entire RH project.
    3. I opened the project again in RH, and tried to make some necessary changes to the map ids. This seems to be the problem area, because after making the changes and regenerating, the error message reappears. Plus, when I reattach the generation from step 1, the one
without the map id changes, it fails too.
It appears to me that changing map ids within RoboHelp does something to corrupt my project. I have noticed that behavior is strange when I
attempt changing map ids. The destinations disappear unexpectedly, map ids say Unassign when there is no destination, etc. I have tried
deleting all 20 of them and mapping them again, with no different result.
Do you know anyone who has experienced this?
Better yet, do you know an expert in the San Francisco Bay area who I can consult with?
The application my organization is developing is supposed to be put on CD today, so this is a huge problem, impacting the whole team. Any
ideas you may have would be welcome. - Caroltypesetting

  • No thumbnails in Project panel

I have thumbnails turned on but nothing appears in the project panel next to the name of the file or in the preview window.

Be sure thumbnails are turned on in the the flyout menu.

  • AVCHD Importing - can only get thumbnails in project pane

I am attempting to import AVCHD movies (from Panasonic HDC-SD100) into the Imovie hd6 pane by dragging the disk icon (for the camera) onto the pane as per the help info ("Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project.")
The problem is it only imports a 5-second thumbnail. How do I import the entire AVCHD vile?

AVCHD is not MPEG-4, so any info about MPEG-4 isn't valid.
You can convert AVCHD for use in iMovie 6 (which is a better video editor than iMovie 7, part of iLife '08)

  • Thumbnails in Project disappear every time

Most of the time I work with big projects, now for example a project wit 887 different shots.
They were not recorded in the right order, so it is a lot of searching trough the project.
That is not a problem when you have the thumbnails.
But every time I restart the program, or keep it in the background for some while all the thumbnails become grey and I need to generate them all again.
Is there any option to increase the buffer or something like that to not have to load all the files in the project to see the thumbnail?

I would love for PP to remember thumbnails, for both bin items and footage in the sequence, so that it was just instantly 'there' when needed, with no regeneration.

  • View Thumbnails in Project Window?

Is it possible to view thumbnails for your AE assets like you can now in Premiere CS6? Or can the little display square above in the project window be made bigger? I'd like to see large thumbnails of my assets.
    Thx.

    Nope.

  • Corrupt Premiere CC project

I hope this is already elevated to Adobe Support, but nevertheless:
One morning on opening our big project we got the following error message:
    [/sirreact64/releases/2013.03/shared/adobe/MediaCore/Backend/Make/Mac/../../Src/Video/Vide oPreviewCache.cpp-75]
And all the backups stated the same message.
I had to roll back an entire day.
The only thing i could think of was that we had lapsed on renaming and saving as new project for a few days, so we had 20 backups in the list. None of them was possible to open.

Better backup practice is 'Save as a Copy". Regularly.
What has happened in your case most likely is... the auto backups are saving a corrupt project file.

  • Repair corrupted iPhoto book project?

We have spent a lot of time working on a book project in iPhoto.  The book is a "travel" book, which has a map on the second page showing where the pictures had been taken.  As a finishing touch to the project before sending it to Apple for printing, we were working on adding some locations to the map and adjusting the map theme when iPhoto crashed. Now the book cannot be opened.  Every time we try to open it iPhoto crashes immediately.  Nothing else is corrupted or damaged in iPhoto -- all other book projects are fine, as are all photos.
We have tried to repair the iPhoto library but that does not change anything.  An attempt to obtain a backup from Time Machine did not help, as the version of the iPhoto library found in Time Machine when loaded causes the same exact problem (and there are no older versions available in Time Machine).
Is there any way to repair just the book project itself?  Is the book project stored in a discrete file (whether visible or not) that could be repaired in some way?  Is there any way to open a book project without loading the problematic page?  Any suggestions on how to avoid the loss of many hours of work would be appreciated.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library.  Can you?  If not then do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Corrupt Thumbnails

We have been using Aperture for a long time and had no problems. We used to have hard drives plugged into our computers directly and would import our images so they were within the library.
Now, we have set up a network so we have a computer with a firewire 400 drive coming off it, which we connect to over our network, to import our files, but instead of going within the library, the raw files now go in labeled folders outside of the library for ease of archiving. So the files within the library are reference files.
The import was working fine and going nice and quick, and then started noticing some of the files looked corrupt. However, when checking the raw file that had been imported it was absolutely fine. The image corruption would only be on Apertures thumbnail previews. You can actually see the raw file in finder is fine, and when going into the Aperture package contents, the thumbnails are corrupt. I have tried deleting the thumbnails and rebuilding the library but to no avail. It still creates a corrupt preview. Whats going on?!

OS of the computer running Aperture: 10.4.11
    Aperture version is: 2.1.4
Camera: Canon 5D Mark II and Raw files are CR2
We have had no problems with the 5D on this computer before, its just decided to happen now that we are running it over the network. Do you think it is because the computer with the hard drive on is not compatible with these files? Even though it is just a storage device. Also, its only 1 in around 10 files that become corrupt?!

  • Corrupted thumbnail

I imported a load of sony raw photos yesterday.  One of the resulting thumbnails in LR was corrupted with half of the picture being solid black, and a jpg export of this picture looked the same.
The file looks OK in windows explorer.
How do I get LR to regenerate a thumbnail for that picture?
    using LR 3.2,  XP.
    many thanks,
    Jeremy

File corruption is a sign of some possible problems that you need to adress
    1. A corrupt CF/SD card
    2. Incipeient hard drive failure
I would rule out these causes before anything else. The fact that the file may show in other applications is irrelevant. The reasons for this have been discussed previously in many threads.
To get LR to regenerate previews go to library - previews and then select which size preview you want. But do ensure you check up for the cause of this first. Remember LR doesn't do anything to a file, it just reads it an creates a new preview file. If it has problems reading the file this shows as file corruption. In this case you need to find the cause of the corruption which will usually be one of the two things I have mentioned.
