Corruption of old (previously supported) RAW files in Aperture 3.4.5

I very recently updated to Aperture 3.4.5. This was necessary because I purchased a Canon G1X and its RAW format was not supported by my Aperture 2 version. To my horror, my old RAW files taken with an old Canon G6 become totally corrupted (very dark, heavy color cast) when I open them with the new Aperture. This seems to be a permanent problem. The photograph is corrupted even when exported out of Aperture. I am desperately looking for help. I feel this is a serious problem that could affect a lot of photographers.

Hi Frank. Now that panic has subsided, I can try to be more precise. I hope you are right about no permanent damage being done.
I realise I have conflated two separate issues.
One has to do with RAW (CR2) images taken with my G1X. Those done at low shutter speeds come out all wrong in their RAW versions once moved to Aperture. There have been a few threads about that problem but I never got to the bottom of it. People have been blaming Aperture (because it apparently does not happen in Lightroom) but I am not sure it isn't the camera because I think I saw the problem in the field as my image was being processed by the camera. The jpeg versions are fine - the RAW ones unuseable (dark and heavily colour cast - green).
My other (newer) problem I tried to relate above was that a similar thing started happening when I tried opening older photos taken with my G6. When they turned dark and colour cast upon loading, I assumed it was still a similar RAW issue. Actually, these are jpegs. It is quite strange - not all photos do it - but once again it tends to be worse with long exposures. When I followed your lead and asked for reprocessing, I get the message that there is nothing to reprocess. When I open an external editor (Photoshop Elements), the problem persists and then gets exported out as a TIFF if I save the photo in Elements. However, when I export the original from Aperture as a jpeg to my desktop, they look fine. Most bizarre - but in my mind, it has to be Aperture. The jpeg preview looks fine until I click on the picture and then the picture itself turns dark and colour cast. The preview itself (strip at the bottom of the screen) is sometimes affected, sometimes not.

Is there a update for Photoshop Elements 8 that will support raw files from a Canon T3i 600d?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 9,10 or 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Camera RAW does NOT yet support raw files for the new  Canon Sureshot S95

Camera RAW does NOT yet support raw files for the new
    Canon Sureshot S95.
Adobe, please can you provide an update asap

    Hello!
I think that you need to be patient.
There has not been any release of Camera Raw since the release of the camera.
I recommend to try the next version once it will be released, as there might be preliminary support (and therefore not listed).
Usually, Adobe is amongs the firsts to support a new camera.
Even though the Camera Raw team is fielded with wonderful coders, I do not think that they do have a time machine to allow support before they have their hands on a camera

  • Does iPhoto 6 support RAW files?

Seems that some of my RAW images are not importing into iPhoto 6. They are taken with the Panasonic Lumix L1 SLR. So question is whether or not iPhoto supports RAW files, and is it specific to the camera model which might have its own proprietary RAW format? Am I better off with Aperture?
    Thanks

whether or not iPhoto supports RAW files<<<</div>
    Yes.
is it specific to the camera model which might have its own proprietary RAW format<<<</div>
Yes. Apparently, Panasonic has chosen not to share its RAW format characteristics.

No. RAW support (or lack thereof) is system-wide.

  • Aperture does not support raw files from my Leica d-lux 6.

When will Aperture support RAW files from a Leica d-lux 6?

You can download a free copy of Adobe DNG Converter. You then can use this program to convert the D Lux RAW files into DNG RAW files. Aperture will be able to read the DNG files. This is a bit of pain but it will work until Apple supports the D Lux in its usual glacial time span.

  • Lightroom not supporting Raw files from Nikon D5200

hi only new here ,has any one else found this problem ,just bought the Nikon D5200 and i always shot in RAW but have now found after my first shot with the new camera that Lightroom 4.3 wont support Raw Files from this camera

    Yes it does.
    See here: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Scroll down to Nikom (it goes alphabetically by vamera makers), tne D5200 is listed as being supported in Lr 4.3.
What does Lr say? Do you get an error message?
Also, did you use an older version of Nikon Transfer or Niko n View? There is something in these older versions that makes the files not readable for Lr.
Update any Nikon software you might have.

  • Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the  Canon Sureshot S95

Have just bought the new Canon Sureshot S95
after contacting Adobe support I am told Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the
    Canon Sureshot S95.
Come on Adobe.....please provide an update asap.

    (1) Well Boss I did what you said and used Canon DPP to convert to TIFFs. Choices are 8-bit TIFF or 16-bit TIFF - I chose 16-bit because part (90% part) of the reason for wanting to work in RAW is to keep the bit depth of teh original. On my EOS 40D it is supposedly 14 bits, which gives great scope to play with the levels & curves without seeing poster effects. If I choose 16 bit TIFF then each S95 image becomes a 70MB file, parallel to my JPEG and RAW.  Hardly a satisfactory solution.
(I realise, however, that I don't actually know the bit depth of the S95 RAW file - anybody? ).
    (2) SUGGESTION-  even if you are adding S95 support to the next update (which I dearly hope), be kinder to those with new cameras in general and allow LR to import JPEGs if it cannot import the RAWs (overriding if necessary the 'ignore JPEG' preference setting).  I am sure users with that preference would still prefer a JPEG than no picture at all!
Since I discovered this compatibility problem, I switched the camera to record RAW+JPEG*. To my great irritation LR3 ignores the JPEGs even though it cannot load the RAWs.  So if I want to import from one supported camera (EOS40D) and one unsupported camera (S95) I have to keep going into preferences to switch on and off the 'ignore JPEG' function.
    JJ
    *  (this seems to be a setting that needs doing in the various different modes of the camera, by the way).
